Fish ball, pork ball, beef ball laksa
    Amy T.

Came for a quick lunch bite and was very surprised with the amount of flavor in each dish. My friend and I shared the Taiwanese style crispy chicken nugget and fish ball, pork ball and beef ball laksa. Both dishes with great portion sizes. The chicken was extra crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside with great garlic and onion flavor. Reminded me of the times in college we would eat popcorn chicken from a boba shop so good and nostalgic! There was plenty of fish, pork and beef ball in the bowl and the Laksa was definitely on the spicier side so prepare yourself. Service was quick. Ambiance is casual.

I came here for lunch around noon on a Saturday, and the place was pretty packed! We were seated and given menus, and I asked for the most popular items. We ended up ordering seafood laksa and curry beef with roti, and they were both delicious. The laksa flavor was bold and spicy, and there were so many items in it! The curry beef was also really flavorful and I asked for some spicy sauce which was also very delicious. The curry beef also had some potatoes which were super soft and flavorful too. The roti was a bit too buttery, but it was crunchy and a good compliment to the beef. Wonderful food, service was alright, gigantic portions! The meal came out to be around $36 which is a bit pricey, but I would recommend it!

Gosh! Had to have my laksa fix today! Ordered for pick up from Banana Leaf: - Seafood Laksa - mix of yellow and vermicelli noodles swimming in the spicy laksa broth, topped with different seafood like prawns, fish, fishball, calamari and other delicious items like boiled egg, deep fried tofu. Must eat with sambal! - Curry Fishball - fantastic curry sauce doused over deep fried fishballs. Great with rice! - Grilled Fish in Banana Leaf - oh, this brings me back to Singapore! That rempah sauce is to-die-for! Comes with a fried egg, white rice and salted peanuts. Banana Leaf now accepts credit cards.

What We Ordered - Seafood Curry Laska with Ramen Noodles - Seafood Tom Yum with Vermicelli We really wished we ate here sooner! We dismissed this place when we first landed in Calgary, big mistake. We thought we had pretty good Asian food back home but Banana Leaf is amazing!!! They don't mellow out the flavors or heat like most places do for American taste buds. We were super surprised how spicy it was. Service is good. They came quickly when they heard the table next to us drop chopsticks. Highly recommend!! CASH ONLY!

I think banana leaf offers one of the better laksas in the city but still nothing special. Only takes cash or debit! A small hole in the wall restaurant in the NE. 3.5/5 Got the beef laksa and the chicken hainanese rice. The beef was tender and the soup was good and homey but it's a bit greasy. You definitely feel bit slugglish after eating it. The portion is big though and it's really filling. The hainanese chicken rice was okay. Good, but not awesome. The chicken was a bit too oily and a little bit rubbery? But still recent. The rice was nothing special. Sauces were okay as well. I would have liked a classic soy ginger sauce with it but only came with the ginger oil and chili sauce. Prices are bit expensive $15 ish for each but not terrible and the portions are on the larger side

This place feels so close to home I'm so glad to have my cravings satisfied after moving away from Singapore to Calgary 7 months ago. This spot is definitely a hidden gem for an authentic South East Asian cuisine -- the Nasi Lemak tasted very authentic and rich in flavour! Laksa is their claim to fame on the menu so I'm definitely coming back to try that out next. Follow my IG: @annthefoodie

Came here for lunch just past noon after a meeting. It's a smaller restaurant and was busy but we got a table for 3 in under 10 minutes just. If you're looking for ambience this is not the place for you, but the food was great! Service was quick and on point. I recall it being reasonably priced but I didn't pay so I'm not sure (many thanks to the lovely lady who covered me!) All three of us ordered beef laksa and an order of roti canai to share. The roti was decent with a lovely creamy curry sauce to dip. The roti itself was nicely crispy on the outside, but I would have preferred a chewier, moister inside myself. Everyone enjoyed it though! The laksa was a very rich and creamy type of laksa - if you prefer the more tangy brothy version of laksa this may not be for you, but I loved it! The yellow noodles were springy and the beef was fairly tender. It's a pretty large portion so I took the rest to go... plenty of broth so I might make more noodles at home to stretch it! Overall, I quite enjoyed the food here! I'll be back to try more :)

Went here based on a friend's recommendation and got the seafood laksa with yellow noodles. It was great! They packed it with so much protein. The broth was flavorful and spicy (might be a bit too spicy for some). I honestly liked this more than the one I had in Singapore. Also, it's not too far off from the airport. Would highly recommend!

    beef rendang

Great food! I ordered beef rendang and it was close to what I had in Sg. And it's spicy too! Husband ordered Nasi Lemak and he was happy with it except that the sambal had humongous slices of onions, but then again, it didnt affect the taste. Chicken satay was great, very juicy and the satay sauce was good. I just wish they had teh tahrik! Saw Milo Dinosaur in the menu

    Hainanese Chicken and Rice

Chill was in the air, so some hot Laksa was on my mind! We had never been to Banana Leaf, and wanted to give it a try. Success... Great food, great service, great restaurant.  We came after the lunch rush, but the restaurant was still full.  It was definitely worth the short wait.  They asked us to wait outside and called when the table was ready (very good). They inspected our Vaccine Passports, and everyone else that came in after (very good). They cleaned thoroughly between guests, and spaced the tables out really well.  Thanks for that. The meals came out very quickly. We had the Seafood Laksa and the Hainanese Chicken & Rice. Both were wonderful. The Laksa was spicy, rich and delicious, with big chunks of fish, squid, shrimp, fish balls, tofu.  I am a big Laksa fan, and this one was awesome.  Big dish too, could easily be shared by two people.  The Hainanese Chicken was perfectly cooked, steaming and tender. Such a beautiful dish.  Way too big for my wife, we took home half for dinner. Service was friendly and fast, the two young men that served us were terrific. The room is cute and spotlessly clean, prices are very good.  We will be back to try the rest of the menu.  Thanks!

We were craving Laksa and Roti and we were in the north of Calgary. So we decided to go to Banana Leaf! Came here many times before and it would be packed around 6pm, but today at 6pm it did not seem too bad. I had to ordered the milk tea with grass jelly! if you enjoy milk tea you will like it here! For appy. we had the roti cani and taiwanese chicken (garlic one). The roti was nice and flaky and with the 'curry' like sauce, it was the perfect match! For the chicken, if you LOVE garlic you will enjoy this dish! (had garlic breath the whole night) The chicken was still juicy and not dry (i believe they use dark meat). Last but not least the Laksa! The laksa here is more of a creamy curry soup base. We ordered the beef brisket, the meat was tender and soft and the curry soup had the perfect spice to it. You get to pick yellow noodles or vermicelli. I enjoyed the yellow noodle as it gives a better bite. The Laksa also had bean sprout and deep fried tofu. It was very satisfying! Note they only take cash or debit. Place is a bit small so come early for some yummy food! You can ask for a bit mild in spice but it may still be spicy if you don't eat spicy food.

Just here for the Bubble Tea
    David O.

Bubble Tea: The bubble tea is good here. They have good flavour options. I got the Taro Coconut bubble tea with coconut jelly and it was really good. They dont serve regular pearls just red bean jelly, grass jelly and coconut jelly. So if you are looking for something with more options then your regular places Id reccomend this one.

Food: * The Hainanese Chicken rice was delicious. Everything about is was reminiscent to what we get at home. The rice, soya sauce, chili blend and chicken were all delicious and so flavorful. The aroma of ginger, garlic and steamed chicken was to die for and authentic. * The nasi lemak combo had a huge portion. Rice, egg, anchovies, peanuts, cucumber, sambal and a huge side of chicken curry. I was in heaven after this dish. I even had half a portion for dinner that evening. The sambal was very authentic and spicy! The chicken curry was extremely flavorful and delicious. It all worked together as how a great Nasi Lemak usually does. * The curry chicken with roti was also very good. The same curry chicken from the Nasi Lemak combo but with Roti Canai instead of rice. It all worked together and was appetizing. You can get either curry chicken or curry beef for the roti as well. * The Curry Laksa was amazing. You have a choice between seafood, chicken, beef, fish or beef balls, or a vegetable laksa. Also, you can pick between yellow or vermicelli noodles. I went with the seafood and yellow noodle Laksa. My mom is from the part of Malaysia that specializes in Laksa and because of this she is an expert laksa maker and I am forever biased. However, the laksa here is delicious as ever. Although not my mothers level of laksa, it definitely is something I would order again and again. Great level of spice and extremely flavorful with spices. I also ordered a side of sambal to go with the laksa. This gives it an extra kick to the dish. 5/5 Full Review: www.thelocalepicure.ca Instagram: @thelocalepicure

It tasted more milky and not very sweet (I got 100% sugar). 2. The boba: 3/5! small and chewy pieces, not flavored/sweetened 3. Service: 5/5! The people working the register were so sweet and the drinks came out really fast. :) The oolong milk tea was better than the original milk tea because the oolong tea flavor was prominent. Out here in Calgary, there seems to be plenty to go around! Happy Tea is by far my favorite! I've tried the majority of their fruit teas. Pineapple, peach, green apple, lemon, passion fruit, grapefruit, lychee. My favourite so far is the passion fruit but I'm also a big fan of the lemon as well as the pineapple and peach. I'm not big into the milk teas but I plan to work my way into trying the slush drinks as well. I like adding the lychee popping pearls in the fruit teas. My partner enjoys getting the brown sugar milk tea. Although she wishes they had an oat milk option, she still enjoys the drink and orders it every time. The staff are always super friendly and the place is always very clean. Glad there is a place walking distance that we enjoy so much.
