After enjoying dinner at a restaurant in downtown Alton, I wanted something else to do. So I did some Yelp, FB and Google searches and found out that Bubby & Sissy's was having their 20th Miss Bubby & Sissy's Pageant. Watching that would be something else to do and it would be totally different. The crowd for this evening show was almost as entertaining as the contestants and guest performers. It was an excellent mix of diverse individuals. There were multiple M/F couples, senior citizens, Bachelorette Party and of course many members of the LGBTQ community. I even saw my waitress from the restaurant, when she got off work. The bartenders were hustling making sure everyone had a cocktail, as they enjoyed the pageant. Two of the bartenders I knew from other establishments in the community, but they work at B&S now, because we all know gays are good tippers. Don't judge Bubby & Sissy's for being a bar supporting the LGBTQ community. Just think of it as a dive bar supporting the local community. I've seen wild deer out on their patio. I know it is the hip/trendy thing to go to gay bars and experience something new, but my first impression of the experience in general was "wow-this is incredibly the same." I think as a straight guy, it is easy to expect stereotypes, and walking in I was prepared for colorful, flaming personalities and an abundance of awkward tension. I was happily surprised that walking in felt like walking into any other bar. The clientele was diverse, friendly, and out to have a good time. It made the decision to return so much easier! That said, the reason I go here is for the drag shows. Everyone tells me they are the best in the area, and for the money, they certainly give you plenty of entertainment. My favorite lady to see is Tay Tay, she's incredibly funny and talented as well. Drinks are on par with the neighborhood in terms of pricing, around $4 for a Captain and Coke, but the $1 Jello shots are always a hit with my group. I will say, the drinks aren't very strong. Maybe I'm just used to my at home mix ratio, but not much alcohol could be tasted in my drinks the last time I was there. Jello shots, on the other hand, seem to be well mixed, and worth the buy! Once the drag show is over, you can head down to the dance floor and bust a move with the stars of the show. In all, it's a great atmosphere, everyone is incredibly friendly and open minded, which makes the experience that much better. One thing I will say is that this is a place for open minded adults-the jokes can be NC-17 during the shows, and the staff is more than straight friendly, but it is still a place to be respectful to everyone that walks in. read more

I went here for the first time a few weeks back, and had a great time! I was with my wife and a couple of friends, and just missed going upstairs for the drag show before they filled up, so we hung out downstairs until we were able to check it out. The atmosphere was a refreshing change from a regular bar. I say that, because everyone just felt so relaxed while there. Sure there were a lot of people, and that can get people charged up, but everyone was just kicking back and having a good time. In addition, I've heard the patio is great, so hopefully I'll get back when the weather is nicer. When we got upstairs, the show was great. The girls did really well. I think several of them could be on their way to bigger and better places, but they all were great. If you are looking for a good night out, and tired of the Fast Eddies world, definitely give this place a shot. You will have fun! read more

There's no other bar where you can just be yourself, gay straight, bisexual or just curious... Dance all night, great drinks, awesome drag shows and just a good time! The first time I went here was last year for my sisters bachelorette party. It was the best show I have ever been to! I have been to a few other places and NOTHING compares to Bubby and Sissy's. And you don't have to be gay to enjoy this bar. I am straight, and this is the most fun bar I have ever been to. They have late hours too. You can dance your little heart out until 3 in the morning! They also have an outside area open in the summer. Its very relaxing out there if dancing isn't your scene. But the main attraction of this place, the JP show lounge, is something you have to see. Plan on getting there early, especially on a Saturday night. The upstairs fills quickly! Erica the emcee, is really funny and all of the "grrls" are gorgeous! What can one say about Bubby & Sissy's? It is the place to go if you're ready to have a great time! The drinks are reasonably priced. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming. This place will amaze you! The atmosphere is fun, fun, fun!! Even the straight men love this bar. The staff is great. Their drag shows are out of this world fabulous! If you plan on catching one though you might want to get there at least an hour early. The place fills up fast. Don't worry, you won't be bored while you're waiting for the show to start. They have a bar upstairs as well as on the main floor. The bartenders are geniuses. The "girls" are beautiful! Most would be hit on by straight men if they were simply walling down the street. i love this place and im not even gay! ive taken dates there and the atmosphere is awesome. the back patio area has a fountain and a nice chill out smoke area. drinks are a little pricey but i always drink big boy bottles so i guess i can't complain. ive met a few girls there too so its a great place to show women you're not intimidated by a place like this and a lot of girls are attracted by that. small tip to some of you guys that won't even approach this place. also my father owned the building a long long time ago before it was a gay bar. it was the jury room. i love what they did to the place lol. my father on the other hand... well thats another story lol. read more
