I'm sorry to have to put a bad review. We drove from the Twin Cities hoping to find a great place for lunch. This was the worst experience we've had with service and food. Let me begin with food, frozen crinkle fries in a bag and my husbands burger was a hockey puck. The server never once back to ask how our food was or refill beverages. I get it, they may have been short staffed but a quick how are things isn't too much to ask for. read more

We just ate there on a lazy Sunday afternoon during the football games. The staff was quick and the food was good. My husband and I split a Buffalo chicken sandwich and a CB burger and both were good, but nothing to write home about. It looks like a fun place to go at night for a pint. read more

First time here. Our cheese curds and shrimp were great. Our steak did not have a good flavor, the bottom bun from the burger was soggy. Our server had multiple tables which caused a delay in our service. Our bill was not correct. Disappointed as it was recommended by a local. read more

Average presentation and the waitress was in a hurry to get us out. The care in food preparation was not there. In the past they did a good job. The cook needs to do better or why should we come. They could do so much better. We can help, when asking for medium rear or want to ensure they meet expectations. Recommended by the owners of Winona Tour Boat as a great burger place. Easy to find downtown. On street parking with some lot spaces. Seat your self, pleasant waitstaff. We ordered the Bacon Cheese Burger with fries. Fastest ticket times we have ever experienced! 6-8 minutes by best guess!! Excellent price too- $25 +/- for two people with sodas. If I could give this place zero stars I would. People who reviewed this place in a favorable light have never been out of Winona or clearly lack taste buds (or work or are owners). My girlfriend and I stopped in on the way back to Rochester because we like to taste local cuisine. This restaurant had a pretty good atmosphere but our waitress was clearly inept. I ordered the "Italian Chicken Sandwich" and the sampler, while my girlfriend got a Burger of some sort. The sampler was precooked and deepfried Walmart food and the "Italian Chicken Sandwich" was nothing more than Mozzarella Cheese put over a baked chicken Patty and crumpled hamburger bun. Seriously!?! This place does not deserve to be in business and their prices are insane! Imagine Applebees prices with non of the skill. read more

While on a cross-country road trip we stopped here because of the great Yelp reviews. While it was a good atmosphere for families and the teenage waitstaff was friendly the food was marginal bar food at best. I had one of the "famous" cheeseburger and it came out and was small, over cooked (medium well). The Reuben we had was sort of just thrown together. There are plenty of fast food options in Winona and unless you are looking for a beer (we weren't) they are a better value for your money. read more

There will be a special place in my heart for Bub's as long as they continue to make the delicious Cellar Mushrooms. If you want a fun place to get beers, some decent food, and a game of foosball or two don't pass up this gem. Yes I've gone there twice in a short span to get a burger and fries there. The atmosphere is fine, kind of bland but still satisfying. There are a good number of tv's with sports on and was busy both times I went, but the decor was bland and not screaming character or unforgettable. I went vanilla each time with a plain American double cheeseburger and fries. The fries are good, the burger was great but it was the bun that they use that makes it so good. I also had the quesadillas for an appetizer and I would recommend trying something else, they were less than good. And for dessert a cookie with ice cream. If you need something sweet and are not picky it will do, but if you have a sweet tooth this is nowhere near satisfying, you can taste that it has been chilled and they microwave it to warm it up and it is rather small. Perhaps twice as thick and fresh from the oven it would be very good, but it's not. Both times the service was stellar, well deserving of a 20-25% tip. Final note, the lemonade was very strong, very tart. Definitely would go back and would recommend. read more

Incredible food for an incredibly low price!! The employees are kind and helpful. I would highly recommend any burger on the menu. They offer complementary popcorn, so be careful to not fill up on that before your meal comes. I've done that a time or two :) read more

Bub's was one of the few meals that I enjoyed while out in Winona for a couple of weeks. My favorite was the All American Burger with the eggs, bacon, and the cheeseburger. Good selection of beer, and the service was ok. Much better than the Perkin's at the hotel that Fastenal puts you up in. Well worth the ride into town. read more

Great burgers!!!! The restaurant was clean, staff was friendly and prompt. It has a sports bar feel with several TVs playing different sports, but it's still intimate enough to able to carry a conversation. They have free popcorn that was wonderful! Tasted just like movie theater popcorn! We had burgers and beer on a Monday. It was free upgrade on your side that night so one of us got onion rings and the other got fries. Yum! I got a boring cheeseburger, but it was very very good! My husband got the Grande Burger...YUM! This is a must try! It was delicious! We were very impressed! Can't wait to go back! read more

Service was good, she did forget one item, but since we were a large group, not too bad. Food was not as good as everyone brags sbout. Our rolls/buns were soggy. The cheese soup was bland. The onion rings were over cooked. The beer was good and the spicy olives were good. Parking is a pain, but then parking is a pain every where downtown. If you're looking for glorious tasting burgers, this is the place. The free popcorn is nice, and the atmosphere is great. I stopped here for the first time in several years with my fiancé a couple weeks ago. The place was not at all how I remembered it. The Bloody Mary's were thick enough to chew and served with the world's narrowest straw. The burgers left a surprisingly large grease pool on my plate considering they had zero flavor. The chips that came with our burger orders were clearly from a bag. To top it all off, one of the off shift bar staff sat drunk lay pontificating about life at 1:00pm on a Saturday afternoon. Comedy nights are great! I wish they'd have more events, homey feel, a good place for food but not much of a bar.

The grilled chicken salad that I got (and all of the salads I saw) were made with the whitest iceberg lettuce possible. I also noticed other little things on the menu that were sort of ways to make things cheaper, i.e. no avocado on the cobb salad. My boyfriend had the Grande Burger which he was not impressed with. Like the atmosphere there... good place for a casual work lunch. Not a burger fan, but i liked their soup while there - bread sticks probably should've come with some sauce though? Pop corn was rather salty, but overall, everyone seemed to like what they ordered. Service was decent too considering how busy this place was on a Friday. read more

Very nice lunch place. Above average selection of tap beers. Very diverse menu choices - burgers, sandwiches, many salads, soups, and pizzas. Our talapia wrap was excellent; buffalo chicken sandwich only fair-to-good (okay chicken, but smothered in too much sauce and cheese and in a disintegrating bun), but excellent fries. Bub's does not brew their own beer and haven't for many years. Old Style Light, Schells Firebrick, and Lienies Dark are what they falsely market as Bubs Light, Red, and Dark. However they do keep clean taps and they taste just fine. Absolutely the best food in town, great clientele, all in a superb atmosphere. Just make sure to check your bill over a couple of times. This business is notorious for ticket scams...adding a beverage you paid for at the bar, mischarging for a sandwhich, or double charging between two people's bills. read more

Met my mom and sisters there on Saturday, May 7 for lunch. It was pretty busy, and the service was pretty good. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich with fries. Their sandwiches come with chips, so adding the fries cost extra. The fries were the standard frozen crinkle type fries. Nothing special whatsoever. The sandwich was a total surprise. I've ordered many Philly sandwiches, and never was one made like this. It was made on a standard, cheap small hamburger bun, untoasted, and the cheese was a slice of processed cheddar -- the kind that comes wrapped individually in cellophane. I didn't see any green peppers or onions either. The flavor was OK, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. The cost of the sandwich & fries was ~$10. I would go back if someone suggested meeting there, but probably wouldn't choose it myself. read more
