We went out with captain Carl and it was mostly a good day. The ride was a good sail and pretty uneventful. The captain charged us more than I think he should have and there are other charters that would do it same trip for half prices the captain was nice enough but wasn't the best guide as he wasn't very talkative or informative. Overall I would say that if there are no other options, or if you prefer a low energy quiet ride to see the party beach of buck island, this charter is for you. read more

The 6 of us had a great day on the Dragonfly with Capt. Carl. I would highly recommend this boat operator. He took us to some great spots for snorkeling and beaching and was full of information and recommendations about things to do on our other days in St. Croix. Buck Island is a definite must see when in St Croix and for my money Buck Island Charters is the way to go. read more

What a relaxing afternoon! 4 of us had a great time on the Teroro II! We had a nice sail out to Buck island and back. Captain Carl was a great snorkeling guide through the reef. This was a far more peaceful and more intimmate experience than the larger tour operators. Captain Carl is very knowledgeable about USVI and is happy to answer any questions, don't forget to ask how Buck island got it's name... I don't think the boat supplies water or snacks, make sure to bring your own. read more

Went out for the 1/2 day tour with Captain Carl and loved it. Our group of 6 was taken to Buck Island and the reef near by to snorkel and have a picnic lunch on the island. Carl was very knowledgeable about the surrounding reef and a pleasure to be around. His personality is very calming and relaxing. They provided all snorkel gear and plenty of space to spread out on the trimaran. Would highly recommend a 1/2 day or more with Captain Carl and Buck Island Charters. read more

Took the Torino 2 with captain Heinz. Excellent day! Enjoyed a leisurely snorkel off Buck island, then sailed over to the beach for some more time enjoying the island and beach. Capt Heinz let those who wanted more snorkeling time get off and do more snorkeling on the way to the beach. Along the way we saw turtles and sting rays! Highly recommend this tour! read more

We drove a few minutes to the Green Cay Marina to go sailing ($75 each, $70 for cash) to Buck Island U.S. National Monument, on the Teroro II, a tri-maran sailboat that holds 24 people. It is family owned by Captain Heinz & his son Captain Carl. Captain Heinz was on board and had a nice helper, a 30ish man maybe named Dane? There were only 14 of us customers so we had plenty of space to sit were we wanted on the 5 hour tour (9-2). We had to use the boats engine some, but also sailed a lot of the way to Buck Island. We anchored just out from the beautiful beach to go snorkeling for about an hour. Dane led us on an underwater "tour"; then we could go on our own, but by the boat. It was fun and we saw lots of colorful fish of all sizes, and even a lobster hiding in some rocks! I've been snorkeling other places and have seen much more beautiful coral; this was mostly dead coral - kind of gray - not sure why. After snorkeling, the boat took us to a place on the beach to get off to relax for 2 hours. My daughters went swimming & hiking around, while I stayed in the shade sitting at a picnic table with some others. This was my daughter's favorite thing we did on St. Croix, and my second favorite. We enjoyed the beautiful views from the boat again on the way back. read more

Capt Carl was a knowledgable and capable captain. He sailed the boat so smoothly back and forth to Buck Island. A comfortable and fun ride both ways! His little tidbits of information about houses, landmarks we passed on the way out were informative and interesting. Perfect amount of info. He didn't chatter non stop about touristy/ gimmicky stuff like some captains tend to do on boat excursions. I liked that the crew did not micro manage the guests and gave us plenty of freedom while snorkeling and exploring Buck Island. Never felt like we were on a time constraint, just a wonderful leisurely day on the Terroro! There were two girls on the crew. Kayleigh was attentive and friendly with the guests, and assisted those who needed guidance with snorkeling. The other girl, Beth, was aloof and appeared to care more about sunning herself than ensuring the guests were comfortable. Her demeanor (as well as her attire) was off-putting and inappropriate. Nevertheless, Capt Carl and Kayleigh provided me and my family with a wonderful experience and fabulous memories of our excursion to Buck Island! read more

Chris C. did an excellent job reviewing the trip so I won't repeat what was said there. We compared prices on other trips to Buck Island and asked locals who the best was and we found this to be the better bargain and really enjoyed Capt Carl's trip out and back on the Teroro II - he sailed the entire way - no noisy engine. We felt the trip was about as enjoyable as the destination. This trip was 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (5 hours) for a price of $70 (cash) / $75 (cc). The snorkeling was very enjoyable, the beach was incredible, and the views from the lookout point (about 1 hour round trip hike) were beautiful! All in all, this was a great value - it was nearly as long as the competitor's "all day" tour (which included a 2 hour lunch on a St Croix beach - we could easily do that on our own) and the entire time was great sailing or at Buck Island - and about $30 cheaper than the competitor. FYI, the competitor's 3 1/2 hour tour was $75. If I had one recommendation, it would be that Capt Carl (very knowledgeable but soft spoken) would get some sort of speaker installed so we could have all heard what he was saying. Buck Island is amazing and a must do while you're on St Croix - and Buck Island Charters is a great company to use. read more
