One of the reasons I keep coming back (beyond the incredible gift selection and stylish, inclusive clothing) is because of the owner. She's owned this family-run business for over twenty years, and you can feel the love and intention behind everything in the store. She's one of the kindest, most humble people I've ever met, and every interaction with her reminds me why supporting small businesses matters so much. What really blows me away is that she always remembers me. Every time I walk in whether it's been a month or six she greets me by name and asks about my family. She remembers the little things: that my best friend I normally shop with here got engaged, that my dad fell ill last year, even what kinds of gifts I usually gravitate toward. It's such a rare and genuine connection, and it makes shopping there feel personal in a way that big stores could never replicate. Beyond the amazing people, the store itself is beautifully curated. You can find gifts for everyone !! From toddlers to grandparents, quirky coworkers to stylish best friends. Every item feels handpicked, and the range is both thoughtful and playful: hilarious greeting cards, cozy home goods, funky socks, beautiful clothes in all sizes, and unique accessories you won't find anywhere else. Like the original Wilkes, Button Down offers beautiful Italian and European styles, along with famous brands and their own private label. They also carry luxurious accessories for men and women. Greg, who had also worked at Wilkes in its heyday, helped me put together an entire ensemble. While leaving the store I also noticed that they carry a small collection of Harajuku lovers up at the register. I will definitely make Ruru one of my regular boutiques I visit when I visit Haight St in the near future.

Regrettably, the shopping experience at the Hayes Street location is not particularly relaxing. Each time I have visited to shop, I have been consistently approached by staff, even after expressing that I was merely browsing. This aggressive sales tactic is quite off-putting, especially given the high price point of their products. read more

I call one of the CS and ask him how to button until it loosens. He says, and I kid you not, "just button it". That was all it took after the other snub and we just walked out. Instead of coming to the door and speaking with me directly, the employee gestured from inside--shaking her head and signaling with her arms that the store was closed. A simple, polite response such as, "I'm sorry, we're closed, please come back tomorrow," would have felt much more respectful and professional. Earlier, when I asked about placing an item on hold, I also felt somewhat dismissed. I had to repeat myself multiple times, and the communication made me feel as though I was not being clearly understood or assisted.
