First time visit and happy to have chosen over Dave's BBQ. Excellent service and clean at most with tributes galore to first line defenders with lively country music background. Not a huge fan of hickory smoking but theirs was not overpowering. Not sure how you can do subtle hickory but they did it. Balanced well by tasty dry rub spices- not too hot or sweet. Ribs did not require sauce and in fact better with rub alone. Yet did sample their wide variety of sauces including NC vinegar spiced splash. Seven different options all good. Pulled chicken amole serving of sufficiently moist meat and the same subtle smoke. Slaw and baked bean sides good combo and balance to the meats but man I wish I'd also gotten the fresh cut fries which are hard to find. Saw many others who seemed to be enjoying theirs. This is a can't miss place and bit of a surprise for northern Illinois compared to the plethora of bbq joints I've visited throughout the South and Midwest. read more

We love the food here... brisket is always juicy, corn bread with the honey butter yum, the pulled chicken sandwich my wife loves, the potatoes casserole side or broccoli side is great. And on and on. Everything is always fresh, fresh ingredients, freshly made, and freshly smoked. The staff takes pride for sure in what they do and the food they are serving to its customers. The best part is the staff. How they talk about their customers. This company or franchise feeds for free the veterans, the local police department employees, rockfords firefighters, and probably more. What they do in the community and how they feed them is impressive. Stand and salute. I can support a business like that 100%. It makes me proud that a franchise does things like this! Mmm... meh? Finally tried this place, wasn't bad but wasn't something I'd write home about. I found myself literally saying aloud "I feel like I have a heart attack coming on" after finishing my meal. And, by finishing I mean getting to a point where eating more would have felt blegh. I got brisket, beans, and cornbread. I ate the brisket, the beans were overwhelming, the cornbread was dry (I didn't see honey packets, or I'd have tried that). I tried my husband's cheesy potatoes--pass, just pass. They'd be better off offering a baked potato, or Brussels sprouts. The price isn't high, which I'd expect for bbq. Odd chain/franchise BBQ place. The food wasn't bad, and seemed to be prepared quickly and fresh. Sauces were adequate, but nothing I'd want bottled to take home with me. The oddest thing is the decor. There's such an oddly over-the-top first responder/military theme to this restaurant that it becomes distracting from the experience. Like, they're not about the Rockford PD or the local Sheriff's office; but instead it's just anyone that's ever had a job working for the military. My wife just brought me a nice selection of food from Mission BBQ. I am duly impressed. Let's start with dry-rubbed baby back ribs. They were tender. They were juicy. There was a distinct smoke ring and smoke flavor. The rub was as good as any I've had over the years. Outstanding! The brisket was tender, smokey and juicy. Impeccable! The Cole slaw, frankly had a bit too much vinegar for me, but overall, it was fresh and crispy, The baked beans with brisket were perfection as was the corn bread. I had the Smoky Mountain and Nashville Hot sauces and both lived up to their names. If all that doesn't merit a second visit, it's run by veterans! I shall return! read more

We absolutely loved our experience here! My nephew really wanted ribs, and after seeing a local place that we just didn't feel that great about, we headed here. We walked in the door, were immediately welcome, and then proceeded to order one of the best bbq meals I've ever had! He loved his ribs and how tender they were. I loved my brisket (and loved that I could order it "lean"), and our sides were delicious! They came around and checked on us, and even brought us little strawberry shortcake samples, as well as some pulled pork samples. On top of that, the manager came out to say hello, seeing as it was our first time, and they cleared our plates and just took such good care of us! Visiting from California, my bro said we should try this place. Gave it a shot and was disappointed. We ordered the $80 pick up pack for 5 people which included 2 lbs of meat and 2 qts of sides. I have no clue how this is supposed to feed 5 people. I selected brisket and sausage. And since it was my first time here i wanted to try the prime rib. How does a $19 prime rib meal ($14 if you get it alone) look like this? The size of this baby meat was just sad. The brisket was full of fatty pieces. With the meat I did get, the flavor was good. He took my name for the order and then introduced himself (Gareth) to me which I thought was a nice touch. I felt very welcomed as a first timer and he threw in a complimentary strawberry shortcake since it was my first time. Another nice touch.
