NEVER AGAIN! Our family's experience with the Kihei budget at the airport was so horrible that I cannot stand reliving it to write this review. On every level at every step it was TERRIBLE. 2+ hours in line, incredibly rude and hostile workers, botched spot to pickup the car, car was crap and dirty, dropoff was botched (no email confirmation). It wasted almost 1/2 of our first day on Maui to deal with the car rental, and every moment was frustration. Thankfully none of us have a health problem, as if you are a diabetic or have any need for a bathroom, food, water, etc., you will be SOL while standing in line. You should plan as if you are going on a 3 hour hike - bring, food, water, meds, maybe some sort of light folding chair, a book... etc. INSANE! If you are looking to rent a car in Kihei, DO NOT use Budget. It looks like there is an Enterprise sublot in Kehei, so next time I will uber there and try to avoid any airport rental. I would give less stars if I could. My husband and I had our first trip to Maui in October for our 20th wedding anniversary. We shopped around and did things as mindfully and budget friendly as we could. (No pun intended) We renting from budget, when we went to the car, I noticed body damage, including scrapes and scuffs. As it was only superficial we weren't worried. Although I did take a video to document the car's state. Later, at the time we returned the car (washed and vacuumed out to avoid cleaning charges) the attendant pointed out the body damage. I shared my video with the representative and at the time - she said we were good to go. Fast forward a month and a half and a Hawaiian vehicle repair shop is sending us a bill for $2800 to repair damages to the car. The rental went fine, EXCEPT at the pickup time, we had to wait 1 hour in line to simply reach the two active representatives to verify our drivers license and credit card. However, downstairs there were two more reps with little to nothing to do. Poor management of employees. We rented a Toyota RAV4 but received a Jeep Compass, which we consider inferior in size and performance. We own a RAV4 at home. read more

Well, we use Budget often and usually goes without any problems but this time at the Maui airport was poor. Waited about 30 mins to get to the counter bc they only had a few reps. Seems they don't manage the staff count to address the surge as customers arrive. Tried pre-check for the first time as they claim it reduces your counter time - what a joke. Don't waste your time typing in your conf number, name, address, DL info, cc info - none of that info went to the counter. Maybe Budget thinks that's why they can minimize staff count but it clearly does NOT work. They still scanned your ID and you insert your cc in the payment machine (at least that part is automated.) Even though you declined all the extra insurance in pre-check, they still ask if you want it and then you decline again when you sign the agreement. Lastly, they double booked our car. We got to the car and about a min later, a couple came up and said that was their car. We compared car info and yup, it was double booked. They were nice enough to say we got there first, so they went back. What a hassle for them and it could have been us, plus Budget created a potential for confrontation. AVOID THEM! Bait and switch. We thought we rented a convertible Ford Mustang. They gave us a Camaro, "it's similar".....uh, NO IT IS NOT! They're condescending and rude. The Camaro had so many dents and dings that I had to take over 25 pictures. Plus, the rear view mirror was broken making it very hard to see (ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN). Even when we returned the Camaro, the person who checked us in said that the Camaro and Mustang are not comparable and to never rent from Budget. Shes right, and the only honest person we interacted with. Travis, one of the manager's said his "hands were tied" as far as giving us an upgrade, but instead DOWNGRADED us and didn't refund the difference. I will be calling corporate again and going back to Alamo or Enterprise where they actually HAVE convertible Mustang's. P.S. Apparently this location only has FIVE convertible Mustang's, so you'll be getting a crap Camaro. read more

If there was a ZERO star available these guys should get it. The desk operations were absolutely awful. They had 5-6 desks open and on average took 30minutes to complete the rental actions. Once one of the desks were done that teller would leave their desk and disappear in a room in the back and did not return back. So a 5-6 desk drilled down to only one desk.. by the time I was up there it was one teller and the picture shows the back up of customers waiting when only 1 of the six tellers was working.. read more

It's always a bummer to read about the experiences of car rental businesses. More often than not I've had really terrible customer service and an even crappier selection of cars when I need one the most. However, Budget Car Rental here in the south side of Kihei ended up being a lifesaver on a very busy holiday weekend over the summer. My friend and I called around to get a decent deal on a car rental given the limited number of vehicles most shops carried during a busy weekend. Budget Car managed to get back to us in time to make arrangements the night before we wanted to rent the car and head to our next destination in Maui. Our service representative on site was really friendly and did something that not a lot of rental car dealers do: advised us on how to lower our costs. She gave us recommendations on how long to keep the car in order to avoid an extra night fee, which airport to drop the car off to avoid another fee, etc. Normally these would not be shared by the dealer because they want to swindle you the monies. However, ours was so nice and actually helped us save over $50 in our rental. We may have had an extremely lucky experience but I have to give credit when it's due. Of course, pick your battles when it comes to car rentals, but we had a great experience and it really gives hope that other shops can follow and be more customer oriented like Budget had been for us. Never again! We reserved a medium SUV and were given an EV upon arrival. We in no way ever, would have agreed to rent an electric vehicle while on vacation trying to relax and recover from health issues. The lady at the counter insisted that I did reserved an EV, even though it does not state anywhere on my contract that I ordered an EV. She only offered a gasoline vehicle for an additional $600. This was not in my budget so we had to take the EV. We have spent two hours of stress and time trying to figure out how to charge it and still do not have it charged. We are old and old school, trying to relax and recover but cannot now, because of this problem car we cannot figure out. After calling in circles, Ariel from Budget offered $200 off the bill. That is not the point, nor is it going to help us. We cannot figure out how to charge it, we're wasting precious time, and it's not what we ordered. He said that there were no gasoline cars available, which is false. The lady at the counter offered me two different gas vehicles for an additional $600 to the $545 I already paid for the car that was supposed to be a medium SUV as started on my contract. He then told me that I ordered a mystery car. I most certainly did NOT!!!! Way to ruin a vacation for a couple of old, return customers. $200 off is not going to compensate me for my time lost. I would NOT recommend getting a rental car here. They do not honor the time of pickup that you set. We had to wait in the office because our car was not even on the lot yet. We asked if we can start any paperwork to expedite the process, however they said we can't start anything until the car arrives. It's a long slow process of just waiting around. Rented car from Budget at the Kahului airport. Later, had a flat tire. Called their emergency road service and after long hold, they came on and told me they would order a comparable replacement, and a local tow company would be texting me right away with details. Mind you, we are sitting on the side of the road in Maui. 3 hours later, after several exasperating recalls to them with long hold times, we finally gave up and called, for a tow truck on our own. They arrived 30-40 minutes later, (we were way out of town), and towed us to Budget where we then had to wait in looong lines to get our replacement. Our out of pocket cost was $250 for the tow. When I gave the invoice to the clerk, she basically ignored it and said the tow needed to be instigated by their company and would not reimburse me. Booked a JL wrangler because my wife and I thought it would be nice to have a rental we were used to. When we picked up our rental we received a a JK with over 40k miles on it. No USB ports, no backup camera. A very basic unit that has electrical glitches. read more

Terrible service while returning the car, This lady Jonet PU at the front desk should not work here. Didn't say anything to us when we walked in for 5 minutes, not even acknowledgement, then she said without looking up," you need your contract". We did not feel our business was wanted. Use caution when renting a vehicle here. The information given is inconsistent and varies from customer to customer. Some customers are told they cannot park overnight and shown the one inch sign at the desk and others are not. Some customers are explicitly told to take pictures of the vehicle after declining the extra coverage and others are nit. We witnessed rental cars returned and then rented without any cleaning, inspection, etc. We were arbitrarily told our car had received a ding even though the attendant walked the car with us present and then came back to the office to reveal there was a ding. She purposefully did not show us a ding in the lot as the car was so beat up and covered with paint touch up. read more

Hello everyone! We have recently (last Saturday) return from a beautiful trip to Maui in the United States. We had a rental car reserved for $442.50 which was an intermediate car. When we arrived it was pouring rain and it was very late at night and we were exhausted! We feel that we were taking full advantage of! We were never told about any of the upgrade pricing we were just asked if we wanted to have a convertible, which, of course said yes, being in Maui! And then we were asked about getting extra insurance and again were never told a price! And yes we do acknowledge that it is our responsibility to ask for pricing! But again we were tired and it was pouring rain and we wanted to get to our room! It is not our job to do the budget rental representatives job for them! Subsequently we ended our trip with a $3360! This put an entire damper on our wonderful vacation! And I might add that those were American dollars and we are Canadian! I have contacted budget they have told me that that was the price and that's all that they will take care of with regards to our concerns! So we started out at $442.50 for a two week car rental and instead our bill was 3360! That was because the upgraded car was $125 a day and then when we extended the contract it went to $167 a day and the extra insurance was $27.99 per day! Basically this was like someone going into by a $1500 car from a lot and being sold a $20,000 car! Absolutely ridiculous! The reason that we are sharing this on their Facebook page is because we feel that they are accountable for not disclosing any pricing and want to prevent others from experiencing this kind of trauma!!
