STAY FAR AWAY!! I would give them ZERO stars if I could to match with the ZERO service they gave us. We don't travel a lot so this was the first time we had to rent a car & we were unfamiliar with the full process. After our flight landed & we got our luggage & located the car rental area, it was around the time where they were opening. with a couple of people already in line ahead of us waiting. The lady that took us was an older Asian woman with short hair & glasses. She helped the man before us & gave him his keys with instructions on which parking space his car would be in & sent him off, only for him to come back 5 minutes later and tell her that he could not find the car that she gave him the keys for to which she came up with some sort of excuse that Budget shares cars with Avis & proceeded to push him off to the only other associate there. We wished her a good morning & started the process of getting our car while asking a couple of clarifying questions here & there. Not once were we rude to her in any way. Immediately off the bat, she wanted to upsell us on a higher model/bigger car, which we refused stating that a normal sedan will be fine, to which she asked if a Toyota Corolla will be OK, & we agreed. She also wanted to charge us a PER DAY fee of $14 to add a second driver to the car which we refused. Then she asked about adding insurance to the car. Being unfamiliar with the process, we asked if it was possible at all to somehow add or use our existing insurance from the U.S. to which she replied extremely condescendingly, "How should I know? that's something for you to figure out." & immediately following up with a threat saying "you can refuse insurance if you want but if anything happens, it's on you." So due to this new worry & driving on unfamiliar roads in a different country, we were forced to accept the basic insurance which added another $40 dollars PER DAY to our total which came out to be almost $600 for THREE DAYS. Throughout our conversation & transaction & on NUMEROUS occasions, she mentioned that the car we would be getting will be a Toyota Corolla. Once everything was done, she handed us the paperwork and car key and told us where to find the car, mentioning AGAIN that it would be a Corolla. We then noticed that the key she handed us was a Nissan key which is usually a more expensive car than a Corolla, so wanting to make sure we are not being up-charged, we brought this to her attention to which she said "I don't have a Toyota Corolla." Then why would you mention a Corolla 4-5 times if you didn't have one? Other than where to find our car & how to leave, she never gave us any other instructions like how we were supposed to manually check everything on the car ourselves & mark any dents, scratches, etc. We walked to the car and immediately noticed that it was damaged to hell & back. There was almost no surface on this car that was not scratched, dinged, dented, or chipped. We went back to her to let her know that the car was extremely damaged & this is where she became extremely rude & again never mentioned that we were supposed to mark it on the paper. All she told us was that the lady at the exit gate will check everything for us & write it off & then proceeded to scream at us to "leave! LEAVE!". We got in the car & drove up to the exit gate to greet the lady. We told her the information we were given & asked her to mark off the damage on the car to which she replied "That's not my job. You are supposed to do that yourselves." & we let her know that we were never given those instructions. We then got out of the car & started to take pictures & videos of every piece of damage while marking everything on the tiny piece of paper as best as we could. This process took about 10-15 minutes after which she came up to us again & said "This is unacceptable!" & told us we need to finish up & leave. We again let her know that we were not given clear instructions to check the car before driving off to which she again replied that "this is unacceptable." telling us to finish up. We have now returned to the U.S. & are anxiously waiting to see if they will try to push any of the damage on the car onto us. Safe to say we will NEVER give our business to this company again no matter where we travel to. If you are considering renting a car through them, because they're the cheapest option available, BEWARE & stay away. Use a different company even if they are more expensive. We recently rented a car for a week from Budget at Pearson Airport in Toronto. Thankfully, we got to our rental in good order, because the next day it would not start. A serviceman came over, jumped the battery, and said the car was now fine. It was - for about two hours. The following day, it wouldn't start again. Another serviceman came over, jumped the car again, said to drive it for about 40 minutes, and it would, once again, be fine. We drove it straight back to Budget at the airport and got another car, at which point we were told that the original car's battery was stone cold dead. Budget had rented us a car with a totally dead battery. As to the two servicemen, the first one had texted me on my cell phone when on his way to us. When I asked the second serviceman why, after an hour's wait, I hadn't heard from him at all, he said he'd called me several times. Well, he had - at my landline number in California. He said that was the number he was given. There was an instance while awaiting the second serviceman when I attempted to converse on the phone with a Budget employee whose English was unintelligible. I literally only understood perhaps three words of what she was saying. The serviceman showed up while I was still on the phone and saved me from her. During all of this back and forth, never once did we hear anything resembling an apology from anyone, even though we had basically lost two days of our vacation and dealt with a boatload of frustration. I submitted a feedback ticket to Budget, but have had no response from them. We have rented from Budget at Pearson (and other places) many times in the past with no problem whatsoever. So when you choose "mystery car" from Expedia, you take a gamble. It will be whatever is left on their lot. Don't do it. Also, don't expect that the people at the counter will give you help. I got to the counter, and my flight had been delayed. I tried to call them, but couldn't get through. Whatever was left was an electric mustang suv. I'd never driven one before so I trusted the people at the counter could give me help with that. They said I'd be fine travelling about 300kms. HARD NO!!! Unless you have a charger overnight, be prepared to waste way too much time trying to find a charger, and then having to sit there and wait hours for it to charge. It ruined my short visit with family. Oh, and I wasted 2 hours on the phone with their customer service that was useless. I wanted to switch cars, and I wanted them to come and pick it up instead of waiting hours for a charge. they wanted to charge me over $200 to trade the car in for a gasoline car. I travel twice per month for my job and I normally use National. This time, I decided to rent via Budget. It was a mistake. A big mistake. Never again. First, we had done an online reservation in Budget.com and it was pre-paid. However, because I didn't have the credit card on which the reservation was made, they were unable to honor the reservation. That led to cancelling the online reservation, and receiving a $150 penalty. Yes, you read that right. Second, the people at the front desk were unable to match the same price that I received online. Meaning, I ended up paying more for the rental than otherwise. Finally, as a token of appreciation for my unfavorable experience, the guy up front, after learning that my family and I were headed up to the mountains for a ski trip, said that he's going to give me an upgrade -- a Chrysler 300S. Now initially, I was excited about this. Leather seats. 17 inch rims. This would be fun to drive. But, as a "non-car-buff" I didn't realize that this car was rear wheel drive and essentially a death sentence if driven in the snow. Three hours later, while my wife, my one year old, and I, were driving in severe winter weather that can only be experienced in Canada, I became truthfully worried for my life as I had no business driving this rear wheel drive car that is obviously intended for a car show and not the mountains. As the back tires would glide side to side every-time I hit the gas, I became painfully worried about the potential of an accident. Now, at first, I thought to myself -- maybe I'm being unfair for critiquing the guy at the front desk who gave me this car. Perhaps he didn't know any better. But, after thinking about it, I feel that the concern is fair. As a Car Rental clerk, your job -- responsibility -- is to know the cars in your fleet. That is literally what you get paid to do. It doesn't make any sense, whatsoever, that this car be rented out, especially to a family that is going up into the snowy mountains for a skiing trip. No sense at all. When I came back to return the car, I spoke with the dark haired lady who was at the front desk to express my disappointment with the rental. Specifically citing how difficult it was to drive and how I wish I knew before taking it up north. Her reply could have been, "I'm sorry for this, Sir." Or, "oh man, that sounds terrible." But, it wasn't. She replied by saying, "Well, you could have just declined the upgrade. This is your fault." Are you kidding me? Yes, I accept responsibility for renting from Budget. However, I had no clue what it meant for a car to be rear wheel drive, let alone that the 300s is a rear wheel drive car! Regardless, all I was looking for was a little affirmation and sympathy, but I got none. As somebody who has spent their entire life in commerce and in customer service roles, my experience at this Budget location was egregious. Picked up my car Sunday August 2nd. Drove away and immediately noticed one tire was flat. Took it to be filled - gauge read 15% (YIKES). Vehicle should not have been rented in this condition - posed a danger to safety. Following the refill, tire went flat again, immediately. Called budget roadside assistance. Waited two hours. They came to replace the wheel, but told me the wheel should not be driven on the highway. I rented the vehicle (close to $700) for highway driving. I asked budget to replace the vehicle with one I can drive on the highway. They told me I would have to take the vehicle to the airport location (initial rental location was bay and front, airport was much further) and get a new car. I did so - three hour process round trip. Was not offered any type of compensation, employee was rude, not even an apology for my time/hassle. Phoned budget this morning to complain. Bay and front location phone system is entirely automated. Called customer service line, was told that I am liable for this issue (inconceivable-- and, as a lawyer, I can say that the representative is not familiar with the legal principle of liability, though he was more than happy to throw the word around. What happens to customers who aren't lawyers??). Asked to speak to a manager. Was placed on hold - twice- only to be told there is no manager available. Said I would be fine to wait on hold until one becomes available. Was told that's not possible. Am waiting for a "call back" in "24-48 hours". Was offered a 50$ refund of the nearly $700 paid and told "that's a really good offer ma'am - almost ten percent!" Possibly the worst customer service experience of my life. I rented a car from budget through Aeroplan using my Air Canada app. I was flying into Toronto from a different province and had spent $647.38 to pick up a rental at Budget Airport location when we landed. It was myself, my hubby, and our two children (both under the age of 2). I called ahead to confirm how much our deposit would be and how much it would cost to rent a toddler seat once we got there. I also called to confirm what extra identification would be needed and if I could use debit instead of credit for it. They reassured me I could each time, informed me what I needed, and I came prepared with everything neatly in a ziploc bag... Only to be told once I was in Toronto (2 and a half hours away from where we were actually going) that my deposit would be $750 (more than the entire rental), the toddler seat would be twice as much as they originally told me, and I could not use my debit at all. I informed them I called multiple times before I left home so I'm not sure why I was lied to... That's when the lady at the desk told me "You must have called the wrong location" - So naturally, I called the number AGAIN, put it on speaker phone and let her hear it say "You have reached Budget at the Toronto Pearson International Airport location" and then I hung up. She then informs me that when you call that number, if they don't answer, it redirects to a US location... So I called it on speaker phone another 6 or 8 times while they didn't answer and I was redirected NONE of those times, I was given a busy tone every time. Obviously I'm mad now. I was home to visit my Mother who has cancer and is currently undergoing chemo therapy treatment, as well as my Dad, who is waiting to find out if he has cancer or not. I ended up angry crying at them about it while holding my kids, 4 hours after we landed, at nearly midnight when my kids should have been in the rental we paid for, sleeping, already on our way to our location. So I cancel my reservation and demand a refund, they inform me they can't give me one RIGHT THEN, to which myself (and my mother who I am on a videocall with at this point trying to figure out an alternative way to them) say "If Walmart can do a refund on the spot so can you" to which the manager, a man, not the lady I was speaking with before, smugly says "We aren't WalMart ma'am" (no shit WalMart would NEVER make me wait for a refund on something I never even received) So now I'm informed and reassured my money will be in my account by Monday. Fine. I proceed to pay $300 on an UBER so we can get to our location 2 and 1/2 hours away... It's now been 5 business days (It's Friday right now, not the Monday they promised) and I have yet to receive my refund for the $647.38 I spent on a rental I was never given. Honestly tempted to take them to court for fraud at this point. Please do yourselves a favour and NEVER use this company. They're frauds, crooks, and scam artists and their staff is unbelievably rude and unaccommadating... Not to mention blatant liars. 0/10 would not recommend. I wouldn't wish our experience on my worst enemy tbh. Budget and Avis are one in the same for ownership of them, and Budget is an absolute dumpster fire, so I wouldn't touch either companies with a 10 foot pole going forward. Oh yeah, and there was another man there dealing with the EXACT same situation as us while we were there... So it wasn't a one-off thing. Definitely hope this company goes bankrupt in the future for taking peoples money and then probably using it for microtrading before they give it back. I normally use enterprise for my rentals and have returned the car 2 hours late with no penalty. First time I've rented with Budget not only did I wait mins to get the rental i was minutes late and charged an extra day. When i tried to explain why it was insane to be charged this to the customer service representative at young and boor in Toronto they then were beyond rude and hung up on me. I have NEVER experienced such bad customer service and can't believe I was charged double the amount. I will never go with them again, if renting go with enterprise their customer service is 100 times better than Budget. read more

I booked through Hotwire when my flight arrived, paid and my SUV was confirmed. After having waited approximately 30 minutes to get to the understaffed counter, my reservation, which i had email proof of, was not accepted because it was "not in the system". I asked if i could book a car on the spot as i had no preference as to what vehicle i got or at what rate and was refused even this simple request. Instead i was asked to make another reservation through my app and to again return to the end of the line. Worst customer experience! There is a lady named Mariam that works here and she is extremely rude. She made us stand awkwardly and didn't even acknowledge any of the customers when we came in. You were never sure if she was ready for us or not. After she finally said she was ready for us, In the middle of us saying "hello, we booked a car under [name]" she just turned around to socialize with her co-workers and cut us off. when you book your rental online, make sure your credit card you used to pay and the license for who ever is driving matches. It doesn't tell you this on the site, but it allows you to reserve and pay for your car anyway- so when you arrive to pick up your car, they won't give it to you. They will make you call their customer service to sort it out yourself. This happened to us. Instead of explaining all this, we had to play 21 questions with Mariam. You have to ask 1 question per 1 piece of information when she could have easily said everything in one explanation. We wasted an hour here just sorting this out. Very upset about the $28 gas charge. I returned the car after 30km and with the needle visually on the full bar on the dashboard. After seeing the charge, I asked for the car to go fill the tank myself but the service staff refused and told me to get the charge refunded at the rental desk. This company, more like "operation" is operated mafia style. Don't go here! I was late by ONE day, and after trying to fix things with HQ, an agreement has been made to bring the car back a certain date. I receive threatening messages from a certain "detective" saying that the car was going to be reported as stolen. I've been with enterprise for a long time and NEVER have I experienced anything like this. I was also charged over $1,000 in "extras & fees" that was later corrected. (No thanks to them). Finally, on my final bill, I was charged over double than what we agreed on. Never doing business with Budget again. I get the weird kind of feeling that some shady business is going on there, phony receipts, over charging my credit card... If you do choose to do business with budget, make sure your credit card has some sort of purchase protection because they're gonna try some weird shit! Also keep your receipts! And make sure to check the receipt they give you because that thing looks like a fucking menu! ALSO! Check your Credit Card transaction history later in the week and month because they kept charging my credit card small amounts even weeks after our business. I chose to use Budget to rent a mid sized car for a recent two week visit to Ontario. I made my reservation on line and arrived by plane, early in the morning, when the office was just opening. I have to say tan everything went smoothly from beginning to end. The Budget representatives were polite and friendly, both when I was picking up and dropping off the car. They were quick, respectful and offered NO surprises or hidden costs. The quote was the final amount! I was totally impressed with this car rental experience and would use Budget again in the future. I rely on the feedback of others and my review is sincere and legitimate. I regret that some of the people, who have offered a review, have had such a very different and negative experience. read more

I'm going to add to the similar reviews here. The customer service was, initially dismal and non-plussed to pretty much downright hostile and deceptive. I had reserved a car and instead of explaining there is a $350 deposit, the short, dark-haired woman who served me grunted, "sign."(The credit card machine) When I asked her to explain what the charge was for- she became immediately defensive and I explained to her that it was less than clear and even courteous to demand $350 from one's credit card without an explanation. Her demeanor did not improve when she found out I procured a third party insurance (she looked annoyed and taken aback) and then, she also tried to aggressively sell the "don't refill your tank- we will do it for you for $71.00) Even though I had just told this woman that I was driving about less than 120 km (75 mi) for the rental period... it cost me $20CDN to refill the tank. All, in all, I will not use BUDGET at Pearson airport ever again. Simply, it was a really dreadful experience. I would avoid them... there are plenty of other options at the airport. We were there for an hour. First the amount of fees and taxes and insurance put a costco deal of 350 dollars to 680 dollars. When I was considering taking an Uber to Niagra Falls they said, Uber doesn't pickup at the airport... not true, they do. After much discussion and waiting for answers and reading all the fine print we take a car. Spot x5 we were told. After a good long walk, nope, wrong car. We went back to see if we could take that car since we put our things in it already. No. Found the car they wanted us in, it smelled. They gave us another car, almost as bad, more mileage... so tired we took it. About to leave the guy at the exit says, "wow, you've been here like an hour and a half right? I remember you. He looks over the car and scratches all over the place a couple from driving and most of them from their automated car wash. Marks all over the car. We wrote notes just in case and took video but much of the marks were so small. Hopefully it's not a big deal to return. $680 dollars for 5 days and I just feel yucky for driving the car off the lot. These were Canadian dollars, FYI. Uber covers Niagara Falls and there is nice local buses for getting to different excursions. I would totally do Uber next time. read more

Budget Car Rental - C5, nope! They wrote me up wrong. Wrong car. - Car Rental Near Me - Mississauga, Ontario

My recommendation: do not give this place your business. My experience with them on Labour Day weekend was terrible. They did not honour a rental I made through Expedia because I paid for it with a Visa Debit card, and then refused to honour Expedia's request to switch the rental to my wife's credit card. The whole thing was bizarre enough, but made worse by the rude service of the counter staff at this location. In the end I gave my business to the Alamo in the same terminal and they were courteous and helpful. I will try never to rent from Budget again. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had. I felt like I should apologize for pre booking a car and having my drivers license and credit card ready. I walked up to the counter and there was two employee's one was helping a customer and the other one looked up at me then rolled her eyes and looked back at the computer. I stepped up to her side and then waited for her to look up at me. I said hello and she said Can I help you....... Shrugging this off as it was early and I wanted to get to my hotel I gave her my reservation and she gave me some paper work. I am 6'6" tall I do not fit in a mid sized car. I reserved a SUV. I asked her specifically if It was a SUV. she said yes. and wrote a letter and number on the top corner of the paper work. Being my first time renting from Budget in Pearson I didn't know were to go. She just pointed over my shoulder and said there. ?? so I started walking to the door to find my SUV. I finally figured out the letter and number at the top was the location of the rental.... But there was a small car parked in the spot that was marked on my paperwork. Must of been a little error let me go back and see..... I walk thru the door and her and I made eye contact and she rolled her eyes got up told her partner she was going on break and left. It was 745 in the morning they open at 7???? something is wrong with this. but anyway. The one last employee was very helpful. I mentioned to him I had pre booked a SUV and he apologized. Got me a suv and explained how to find it. He was very helpful. I get the car being a avid renter of cars. I know if there is anything wrong they want you to pay if you leave without telling them. so I drive up to the lady at the check out booth. told her there is garbage and popcorn all over the back seats. Her reply was the best. ( Well you have to take that up with budget. ) Even tho one employee was good being treated as if I was a Problem for spending money is ridicules. If at all possible I will never again use Budget Car Rentals as a result of my experience with Budget at Pearson International Airport, which is to bad as they provided me with a nice car, and the people in Waterloo, Ontario when they switched my car due to a bad tire were very pleasant. However, all of that doesn't take away from my shock at the end of my visit when my bill went from $265.00 to $765.00. I had filled in the necessary electronic request for a car for my visit, and did NOT request either insurance (I have my own) or Road Side Assistance (covered by my credit card). I flew in after having about 3 hours sleep on the planes, went to get my car, waited behind two other families they were struggling to get the cars for, so that by the time I got to the counter there were at least 5 more people behind me in line. I stated to Nellie that I did not need insurance, was told she was taking care of something that everyone got, please sign and initial here. Yes, I should have read the contract, but they look like carbon copy off a typewriter and I just wanted to get out of there. There was no conversation about what my requests were, they were ignored and I was given the services anyway. After I returned my car full of gas, and on time, I looked at the receipt and discovered I had been charged for them to fill my car with gas, an extra $53.00 charge. When I phoned the company to discover what was going on they did credit me the gas charge and some of the money back. I later e-mailed with a person from the company who told me they would give me back less, but as they had already processed that credit they then added another $44.00 to my bill, now making the total $805.00. He then told me he would recommend to the managers to give me back a bit more. To make a long story short, they have billed me $805.00, given me a credit for $53.00 for the gas overcharge, and $219.00 back on their customer service representative's scam job, and they want me to be happy that instead of paying $265.00 for a car rental I am now paying a mere $533.00. To me that is not customer service, it is taking advantage of customers. read more

The worst experience ever. The upgrade charge differs from person to person minute by minute. And I was told they didn't have a particular car and the person right after me asked for the same car and got it. I was shocked. Will never ever rent from Budget again and I'll make sure everyone else knows too. A lot more happened but I'm so disappointed and angry can't even think. read more
