I have been in line to get my Budget rental car at Syracuse Hancock International Airport for 45 minutes. No, I am NOT exaggerating. The way it looks I will be here for another 30 minutes at least. Started with just one person working then a second showed up but line is still not moving because they are taking the Fast Break members before ALL of the people who have been standing in line forever. If I didn't prepay for my car, which wasn't worth it because they add on MULTIPLE FEES AND HIGH TAXES, I would have cancelled my reservation in line. This is insane. Budget worked out great on this trip. We received a free upgrade to a Toyota Camry and we didn't even ask for an upgrade. The counter moved fast and our paperwork and car assignment was complete within five minutes of reaching the desk. The bill was just as agreed and the car was beautiful, clean and ran well. Car return was as simple as park the car in a spot, leave the keys in it and walk away. The final bill was emailed to me before we even cleared security. Holy smokes- HUGE thank you to the employees at Budget who helped us last night, Monday August 7th, at 2:30AM!!!!!!! We never expected anyone to still be at the airport at that time. The website said midnight closing. Anyway, after JetBlue kept us waiting around JFK for 4 hours for our delayed flight, we were deliriously tired. When we landed we quickly called for an Uber. But when I saw two employees standing at the Budget & Avis stand I squealed with joy and canceled my Uber. We got our reserved car, which was so clean and leather interior, left the airport and got into our hotel bed right away. Absolutely exceptional service. Bravo Budget! read more

Thursday, 8/8/24 - want to say thank you for being there when we needed you. JetBlue cancelled our flight out of JFK and we had to uber to Newark to catch a United flight out to Syracuse. We were so exhausted and had to reserve a room in Syracuse. We we so excited to see an attendant at the budget counter at 1:30 AM to fulfill our reservation, we didn't care that it was an electric car...until the next morning when we got to Watertown and could not find any chargers. After several unsuccessful wild goose chases to find a universal charger in the downpouring rain (Hurricane Debby) we found an Avis rental that changed out the worthless electric KIA for a wonderful gas powered Subaru Forester...we took it dirty with little gas we were so desperate to get to a wedding in the Adirondacks. BE AWARE: check to make sure your windshield wiper fluid works! The system on my rental was frozen - I had to get it repaired at a car repair shop & pay for it (approx. $150) which Budget said they'll reimburse. But it did also set my trip back by about 2 hours. The repair shop says rental places don't use windshield wiper fluid that can withstand less than 20 degrees which is bound to happen in the winter months in upstate NY. Not only is this a huge hassle but also a massive hazard while driving. I could barely see for about 10 miles and was lucky enough to be find a repair shop right off an exit. read more

I am a Fast Break member and had to wait in line for over a half an hour for service. The car I was given had an issue with the driver's side rear wheel and I had to return it for a different car. All in all it took over an hour to get a reasonable rental from them. I am not using Budget at SYR again. I ordered a SUV and they switched it in the middle of booking to a car. Then told me I would have to pay 50 to cancel. I had a coupon that they offered me in an email and they said I couldn't use it. We got the car and it smelled like cigarettes and pot. The guy dropping it off was nice, but the agent checking is in was not friendly whatsoever. I think we will be switching rental agencies as this isn't the first problem we have had with them. read more

Got the airport in Syracuse to pick up the Tacoma we rented for a week, and the budget section wasn't even open so we had to deal with an avis rep. She wasn't bad just had no sense of humor. She gives up the keys to the Tacoma and we go pick it up and as soon as we get to it it's just disgusting on the inside. And you can tell from the pictures I've posted. You'd think they would have the care to atleast vacuum or clean it but it smelled like smoke and the seats and all around was just disgusting. I should just go back to enterprise like I use to where you get a fresh clean detailed car before your trip. read more

Like many of the reviews say, Budget and Avis share a service desk. I was surprised how $40 a day ended up being over $80 with fees. My car was very clean and ran smoothly but couldn't for the life of me figure out where the mileage was which was needed to turn it in so I just said how many miles I drove. You also need a pen to turn the car in and fill out the receipt, but there were no pens at the station inside or outside the airport so I had to ask around to find one. In the past I was given keys to a car that didn't exist and nothing happened when I pressed the panic button in the lot. They fixed it right away. The desk is directly across from the garage and easy to get to just cross the departure road. read more

Of course, as the customer, we have no recourse. The car I rented was only one year old, but somehow falling apart as the passenger seat was unadjustable and then rear view mirror fell off after hitting one of those lovely NYC potholes. We rented a fill size vehicle in Syracuse NY. The weather of course in February was knee deep in snow. They gave us a Chrysler 200 and said that was all they had in full size. We took the car and after 20 minutes it did warm up with an odor pouring out of what I found out was weed. We had already left and we're on the road. We stopped to buy air fresheners which did not help. In addition the car could not make it up any of the hills in Syracuse with the snow on the roads. The biggest problem was when we returned the car and we told them of the bad experience they could have cared less about any of it . They just said, " oh well its Syracuse". Rented a car from here for 3 days: booked online through kayak, opted out of insurance due to having coverage already. At pick up, guy at the desk was friendly and personable, gave us a great Ford Focus that only had 400 miles on it. No issues with the car, return was super easy with no additional charges. BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD WITH ANY COMPANY! If I could put that in bigger caps, I would! I had a flight getting in to Syracuse at 12:07 am. Before I made my reservation with Budget I called to make sure they would be able to give me a car at this time (they close at midnight.) I was told by more than one individual that they CERTAINLY would wait for me. If my flight got in at 12:07, they would expect me around 12:15, but would wait until 12:30 just in case. I made my reservation and called to confirm that they had received it along with my flight info. They said I was all set! My flight got it on time, I went straight to the rental counter, I arrived there BEFORE 12:15, but they had already closed! I called the 24 hour customer service number but they guy kept transferring me to the automated system, It was 12:30 before I spoke to someone in corporate. This person told me it was obvious that the kiosk employee had not done his or her job properly. My reservation was clear with my flight info on it. There is no reason they should have left, but there was nothing they could do at the time. I slept in the airport until they opened again at 6:30 am. I described my situation to the lady who opened, she agreed that whoever worked the previous night had not done his or her job properly and that I should call customer service about it. She gave me the car and I went about my business. I returned the car an hour early because I'm that awesome. A few days later I had a charge on my credit card for THREE TIMES the amount I had agreed to pay! I contacted customer service once again and was told that I was being penalized for "altering my reservation." Unbelievable! I will be contacting both my credit card company to dispute the additional charge as well as a lawyer! read more

We went to drop off the rental car, and what should have taken 1 minute to drop off keys, it took 20 minutes. We didn't see an attendant waiting to give the keys to. We didn't see him because he was sitting in a regular car playing on his phone. He had no uniform, so we didn't know he wasn't just a regular guy. There was also a very long line inside, so we couldn't just leave the keys with them. This was a pain. It also cost $800 in addition to what we already paid to extend the rental. I called Budget Rental Car company on 11/4 to inform them that I was overcharged for my reservation at SYR from 10/28-30/16. The Budget representative first told me that I didn't return their car on time and was charged and extra day. I informed the Budget rep that I was on an AA flight 4714 that left SYR at 6:30 AM on 10/30 and couldn't have kept the car any longer. I also told the Budget rep. that I had previously rented a car from Budget on 9/23-25/16 as I have a sophomore daughter going to college in upstate NY. That when I returned the Budget rental car the last time, the two Budget employees who were supposed to check-in returning customers were both sitting in a minivan on their cellphones and not helping customers. I actually went to the Budget counter inside the airport to complain, something I very rarely do. The Budget rep. then told me that I would need to send her gas receipts to prove that I hadn't kept the car for an additional day. I asked her how providing a receipt that I filling up the Budget rental car was going to prove that I didn't keep their car extra hours, since I had actually filled up the car the night before. She couldn't answer my questions so I asked to be transfer to a supervisor. I was put on hold for over 5 minutes and then the same Budget rep. came back and told me that no supervisor was available to speak with me. She asked for and I gave her my mobile telephone number so that someone could call me back. They never did. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND PAY MORE, IT'S WORTH IT!!! read more

I called Budget because My flight was cancelled so I was a little late returning the car because the airline changed my flight. I was charged 97.00 for 2.5 hours extra Its been about A month since the drop off and I keep getting fees charged to my card 15.00 and change then a week the same fee a week after that which was today another 8.00 and something , sorry I don't have the paper in front of me. I went from Syracuse to Herkimer then Herkimer to Albany and back to Herkimer ,then Herkimer to Syracuse For the drop off. I did this through Expedia I bought all the insurance offered and paid the extra 3.00 a day (5 days) for my daughter to be a driver. It ended up costing me 700.00 or so for 5 days and I'm still getting fees charged . I had to put a stop on my card. Next they will probably go after my daughter because she happened to pay for the 15.00 for the 5 days. We topped off the gas and I was still charged For their 3 gallon price. read more

When I went to pick up my rental the system was down. I told the worker I would be paying cash when I dropped the car off and he didn't say anything about how i couldn't. I returned the car on 6/17 and went to pay cash and the woman stated she didn't have any petty cash and couldn't pay with cash. She didn't say anything about having to have an account. The worker stated she'd have to take the money in the back and create a disposit. I looked at her and stated that's not my problem. And pointed out I was paying for a service and should be able to use cash or card. I followed up with customer service on Monday 6/19. It took me at least 7 tries to actually speak with a customer service rep for Budget; almost as if they didn't want me to speak with someone regarding my concern. I finally got a rep who stated I couldn't pay cash because I didn't have any account. The worker didn't mention ANYTHING about havng an account I became very frustrated because with multiple calls, and transfers, I got no support I called the next day on 6/20 and got someone who took my information and was really great and the best customer service I got through this whole experience. He stated he would pass the information along to the regional manager. I have NOT received an email or a phone call from the regional manager. I feel like they don't care about their customers or providing excellent service. Very disappointed and will not being using this service again. I'm going on a 2 week road trip on September and I'm looking at other rental services for my needs. read more

NEVER USE BUDGET! WE TRIED TO USE ANOTHER BUDGET LOCATION IN SYRACUSE AND IT WAS MISERABLE! I wish that it was possible to give Budget ZERO STARS! What a clown show. We reserved a 24' moving truck a on a Monday, on Friday took the train down to Syracuse (~$60), only to walk in to this hell hole Saturday morning 8am, just like it said on the reservation--that we made 6 days ago--to be told, "Oops, it seems no one called you. You don't actually have a truck--no truck at all, as a matter of fact! NOTHING is available. BUT, to compensate you for your woes, we can give you a "substantial" (the actual word used) discount....of 13% off!" What?? are these people serious? An international cooperation belileves that 13% is a substantial discount? Do they know that when a person reserves a 24' truck it's because they have a lot of shit to move? As in, you call your friends, and make sure people are available and coordinate and.....wait! hold on! just kidding! no one cares and no one can help you! Haha! Joke is on you, silly person, Budget "Reservation only guarantees the rate quoted and shows a customer's preferences for a pickup location, dropoff location, time of rental, date of rental and equipment type." And it is apparently impossible when you do get some one on the phone with you at Budget to explain how despite the use of the word "guarantee" NOTHING is promised to you, or held for you. They frankly don't even promise to be professional. BOO BUDGET! YOU ARE A SHIT SHOW! DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE! That one star is for the guys at the service counter, everything else about Budget's customer service (if you can call it that) is zero star worthy. We called to extend our car another 3 days and I asked if it was possible to get a lower rate, $62/day seemed high to me. The woman from Budget kept me on the phone making calculations and when she came back on the line quoted me a total price that still seemed very high. When I asked what that was per day she told me she was unable to give me a breakdown of the total. So I asked to please (I ised to work in cust service, I try to always be polite) speak to someone who could give me that information. Her response was, "There's no one here who can do that on an extension." SERIOUSLY??? We ended up renting another, bigger car through Enterprises for a much better rate but we had to take an hour & half out of our vacation and borrow a family member's car to drive out to the airport to return the car. The young man who took the car at the airport grunted that there was nothing he could do other than scan the car's barcode, take the keys and print a receipt.
