Flew in for a couple of days for work and decided to get a car rather than use Rideshare. I always go for National, they're great... Great service... Great car selection from their Emeral Isle, but this location doesn't use the Emerald Isle, rather there's a booth in the garage where you need to wait in line for someone to give a car. I find this very inconvenient, but it is what it is. Car selection here was adequate, not the best. Service was nice and friendly, both on pickup and checking back in. Overall, I'd most definitely return to rent from National, but this isn't my favorite location. read more

[Updated Review (2024-2025) to include top notch service by manager Sarah L!] Usually a Hertz customer but decided to try National here at SYR back in 2021 and have been with them ever since. Great car selection (including Audi, BMW, MBZ, Volvo, Land Rover, Cadillac, and rarely even Maserati for upgrades), service and staff. During one of my first experiences, I saw a Tesla Model X available on the site and booked it, extremely excited that they finally adopted the electric SUV. Arrived with a huge disappointment since the car is actually not available and the staff at SYR has never even seen the car. Spoke to the manager Bri; she was extremely understanding and was able to switch me to a equivalent sized SUV albeit not electric (the EUV available was a volvo that was a lot smaller than the Model X) and treated me with respect. Even recognized that I was a military member and thanked me for my service! The next experience in Dec 2023 was also superb. Initially came in with a reservation of an Audi A4 but had a previous upgrade. Though staff Marc said that I just missed an upgrade (previous client just rented an A5) the attendant Anthony overheard and said they may have just received one. After only a few minutes of waiting, they got me into a brand new upgraded A5. What a great team striving to make their customers happy! A visit in Feb 2024 when I rented a full sized vehicle, though clean and new, did not love the specific brans. Went back to Marc and asked if it is possible to get a nicer vehicle on the lot. He told me he will try his best and immediately called his supervisor. After striving to help me, viola! Upgraded into a luxury SUV for being a long-time repeat Emerald Club customer. Furthermore, Marc even found the backpack that I accidentally left on the first rental before the switch and returned it to me! Great customer service. Another 2 great recent experiences in Nov & Dec 2024 where Sarah L, the CE manager not only found the vehicle I requested for, she responded to my concerns with efficiency, grace and understanding. Everyone here was so kind, and the whole process was pretty seamless. We were in town for a funeral, so we were offered an upgrade so we could shuttle family around all weekend, which was so wonderful. Being from the south, I also appreciated the larger car while driving in the snow. I've had a pretty bad experience with a rental car company, so I honestly dreaded this. There was another person in line before us and then we went up to the counter. Gave our name and license and within minutes we walked across the street to pick up the small SUV, very convenient. We didn't like our vehicle so I went back in to see what to change it too, the agent gave me a couple of options. I went back to the parking lot to tell my family, then back to the counter. I advised the agent that we liked the VW small SUV and he handed me the keys and paperwork and off I went. Travel the past couple of years has gotten a bad rap but this rental car counter has got it going on! Three friendly, happy, and helpful people working the computers and interacting with the customers and another also helping in the background with keys and issues from what I could tell each time I was there. This week the gentleman that helped me was so over the the top helpful! I am generally the type that likes to just go pick out my car and not talk to anyone but sometimes we just need that interaction in our day to make us feel special and not like robots. This location doesn't have an Emerald Aisle. The rental counters are very close to the baggage claim and the lot is directly across the street so no need for a bus or monorail. I liked that they offered me a Cadillac SUV at the same price as my corporate contract. First time I was ever upgraded like that. Upon return, but people were very friendly and fast. I didn't get the 5 minute return inspection. Great job. read more

The worst. Tried for 3 days to get ANYONE at the Syracuse Airport location to pick up the phone. Had to drive 2 hrs just go back to ask a question regarding a lost item that could have been solved in 2 min over the phone. Never again will I use National. EVER read more

Worst experience ever. National Car Rental at the Syracuse airport sucks. Customer service zero. I reserved a car months in advance. The day I arrive at the airport to pick up, no vehicle. They closed. I had notified them my flight was running late. I was assured they would remain open until I arrived. Not true, they closed. I called and was told to wait until next morning. Hertz rental was still open next to them. I met the nicest lady who was very helpful in getting me a last minute car. Go with Hertz, you won't be sorry. read more

This location doesn't deserve any stars. Came in on a delayed flight and they didn't have any cars waiting for there customers. Kayla the employee was rude to my wife because she was telling other customers what was going on, because she wasn't. Talk about customer service, how about no service. read more

I rent about once a week for work with this National location. They are wonderful. They know me and always look out to keep a great car when I get to the counter. Great customer service ( particularly the evening crew). I even been upgraded multiple times to BMWs. Sweet! read more

We reserved a car with National at the airport in Syracuse. Our flight was due to arrive just before midnight Saturday. I phoned twice to be sure they would be open. "Alberto " said they would. When we got there about 11:50 they were closed. We had to rent a car from Hertz. Glad to have it but it cost $170 more. Called and emailed details to National. They told me their policy was to close at 10PM. I should have come back the next morning. I have been a regular National Car user. Never again. Never. read more

Returning the vehicle was a nightmare. The lot is dimly lit and there were no reps to issue me a receipt when I pulled in. The signs directing you to the return station are also really hard to see, especially at night. I was very worried as this seems like an easy target area with limited lights and the long distance from the return area to the terminal. There are no shuttles. read more

Price charged on app diff than what I was billed for due to a 20% surcharge none told me about when I rented in new Orleans 4 months prior or Chicago or KC last yr. If there was another option the day I flew from Austin that could've gotten me a car quicker when I landed I would've taken it. I've never had such a pleasant experience renting a car. These people were courteous, kind and accommodating. I had a flat tire with my first vehicle and called AAA, but had to get it replaced. Left myself and several other travelers stranded at the airport at 12:30am. When I called the desk before boarding the aircraft, I was told that I would be able to pick up my rental when I arrived. They lied, when we arrived at the counter it was closed. When we contacted the customer service, we were told the location was closed, and they would be back in the morning. Very pleasant experience! I reserved a midsize 4-door and was given a Chrysler 200 upon arrival. First time driving one and was extremely happy with its performance; very clean, updated features (rotary E-shift in the center console to control the transmission?). The staff at the counter helped me through updating my account and got me on my way. From de-boarding the plane to driving off took a total of 20 minutes; not bad at all! I am a executive plus member and really like bypassing the counter and going directly to the aisle to pick my own car. The counter staff was very friendly and professional. Some National's allow the renter to pay for a quarter or half a tank of gas and I opt to do this in areas I'm not familiar with; this National's policy is to pay for a full tank or return it on full...It only took $2.25 to refill it. Luckily, gas stations were plentiful. Need to be more flexible with this. I would use them again. read more

My rental was incorporated with my flight. The flight was delayed and we did not arrive until 1AM. Expecting to be able to pick my car I went directly to the garage. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I went to the counter to only find AVIS open. I would expect that the National counter should have received an update on flight arrival and have appropriate methods in place to assist with the late arrival. I was not the only client that had a car reserved with National. AVIS picked up additional business as well as the Taxi Service. I opted to take a Taxi and return the next day to pick up an auto. I questioned the clerk and was told the evening staff was there until 1:50, however that was not the case. I would have expected an upgrade for all the inconvenience that I experienced as I am an Executive Plus member, but that was not done as well. Very disappointed.......................... read more
