One star is too high. It was horrible. The worst of the worst. Car may have been dirty but at least the attendants were rude.

SCAM! I told them I did not want to pre-pay for gas. They said I would have to return the car with a full tank of gas. I said I understood. As I was signing the documents he said on of them was waiving the pre-paid gas. When I turned in the car the person scanned the barcode, told me to walk to the van and then walked away. At the airport I get an emailed receipt with a $50 pre-paid gas charge. I returned the vehicle with a full tank, even said so on the receipt. read more

I can not recommend this place to anyone. Unfortunately there are limited places to rent cars at the Saint Louis airport but we just had the most negative time with them. Our car broke down before I could go pick my wife up so she had to rent a car. When she got to our house she asked me to go and check the car, she couldn't get the A/C to work and the car was blowing nothing but hot air. This was in the spring/summer and the temps outside were in the upper 80s. I determined that the A/C was indeed not working. My wife called budget, was on the phone going through menus and being on hold for a while. Finally got someone that told her to bring it back. This location is thirty minutes from our home. We went, the employee at the counter was courteous but not overly personable. Traded the car for a car that was dirty, dusty, the windshield was not clean, it felt like we had just taken some stranger's car. We got home, the next day we were going somewhere and noticed transmission fluid in the driveway. Sure enough there was a leak from the car. Back to calling budget, menus, waiting on hold. Told to go back to get a replacement, we go all the way back to budget, get another car. Jump to a few days later when the car was returned. Everything went as it should. Another few days later we were in need of a rental again and budget showed they had no cars, just a cargo van or a large pick up. No cars. None. I would not recommend this budget location. The employees looked like they were there just because it was a job, I can't believe the basic, dirty car we got, and it's hard to swallow that we now have, actually, two oil stains on our driveway. Not recommended but what else are you gonna do. read more

PLEASE!!! SAVE YOURSELF FROM HEADACHE! Don't rent from this place!!!! They do not care or value their customers!!!! Nov 13-15 - we rented a car from them. We are unaware about their policy that private vehicles are not allowed on site. We rented from this place on multiple occasions and we NEVER had an issue. My husband even asked the agent if it was okay to park which he agreed. We came back from our trip on Nov 15 and our car was GONE. They got it TOWED!!! We had to take Uber going home with our toddler in a freezing weather!!! They DO NOT CARE!!!! We already paid our rental and on top of that we paid for towing fees $535, just for a day of impound!!!! Ridiculous is understatement! I asked them if we can get reimbursed bc we are unaware of their policy and we have ALWAYS been parking onsite and suddenly it became a problem!!!!! Listen, I know it's easy to give a one star review and bash rental car companies. but I have nothing to complain about here, I went to the fast break office, and my name was not on the screen and Kimberly behind the counter quickly checked that and fixed it, and she was delightful and funny in the process. And I also loved her Christmas hat! The whole thing took about five minutes and I was out the door. What could be better in a car rental agency? On the way out, I spoke with the manager Victor and he was also a delight. When I returned, I spoke to a man on Christmas Day, I didn't catch his name because it was so early in the morning, but the most amazing thing was how nice and friendly he was considering it was Christmas day and he had to work. We spoke about where I was headed, which was Cleveland and he had told me that he spent some time up in the Cleveland Flats a few years previous, he didn't have to have that conversation with me, but he did and he was so genuine and polite. I'm not kidding when I say that he deserves a raise. I wish I'd caught his name so I could mention it here, but I have to give kudos to the entire staff. This place is a mixed bag- I am a Fastbreak member, so I should just be able to get out of the shuttle bus and go to my car- but that rarely happens. Even though I get a text/email confirming my car and the space it's in, by the time I get there, they have given my car to another person, or, like the last time, my car was not in the space number they texted me. Fortunately, I walked around and found it by color, make and license plate number. The line inside the office is usually huge, as they service both Budget AND Avis. It is very frustrating when your car is supposed to be waiting for you, but you end up waiting in line with all the customers who have to go through the entire process to rent a car, which always seems to take an intolerably long time. On the car side, however, I have ALWAYS gotten a great vehicle, clean and serviced. read more

I waited in line until 1 am to get car. The car was over 4 years old with 80,000 miles. It had low air in the tires. The satellite receiver on the roof was broken and dangling with wires. Bumper damage as well. Payless which is a sister company to Budget and owned by Avis would not exchange the car. When I returned the car they tried to pin me for $250 in cleaning charges and $227 for damage to satellite dish. Fortunately I took pictures. Will never rent again from this company or its other brands. Completely fraudulent claims by Payless. read more

Was given a car with no spare tire and an over inflated tire they KNEW had a leak. Ir went flat on the freeway. We almost git killed. Took more tgat 5 hours and multiple calls to get a tow truck and an Uber ride. 'Customer service' totally incompetent and snarky, hung up after putting us on hold for 20 minutes. First, when we arrived at the location there was a line that wrapped around a few times all the way to the door. After a little under an hour, we were finally at the counter. I had completed the check-in process on my phone while we waited so this part went quickly. We were told the make and model of the vehicle we'd be getting and it met our expectations. We went outside and waited as it needed to be prepped. A few minutes later, a vehicle of that make and model pulled up about 50 feet from where we were waiting...and the employee driving it simply got out and walked away. We weren't 100% sure if that was ours or not so we didn't get in immediately. I flagged down the employee as he was walking back toward us to ask if it was ours and he made a face as if he thought I should have known it was. Everything went smoothly from there until I returned the vehicle. I returned it with the key inside and with a full tank of gas as directed. Once I got to the airport less than an hour later, I saw I had received my e-receipt. On the receipt, I saw that the total was about $200 more than expected. Looking further, I saw that I was being charged $186 for fuel service, as it claimed I did not return it with a full tank. I immediately called the number on the receipt and was directed to a call center. I asked to speak to someone at the actual physical location but was told that wasn't possible. I explained that all someone had to do was go out to the car, which was likely still either where I left it or being prepped for the next customer, and look at the fuel gauge. Again, I was told that contacting the location itself wasn't possible. How there can be no way to call a phone inside that building and have an employee there answer it just boggles my mind. I was told my only recourse is to send proof that I filled the tank, either a receipt or a billing statement. I sent both Plus a clip from my dashcam showing the vehicle at the gas station that morning. I am still awaiting an updated receipt with the fuel service charge removed. Even if it is eventually removed, I will still never rent through Budget or Avis again due to this shoddy service. I suspect that they do this on purpose in hopes that customers do not check their receipts or do not have a way to prove they filled the tank. I'm thinking of documenting every aspect of this process in the future, possibly even filing myself filling the tank with supporting evidence of date and time due to this, as it seems necessary to protect oneself from these fraudulent practices. I suggest anyone renting here do the same to protect themselves, too. read more

This location is the epitome of lazy, rude, uneducated, and unbothered, employees could use some training on how to correctly identify and assign a car to the customers contract. On one too many occasions, while standing in a long line, several customers returned because either their car was not in the spot their were told or it was an entirely different car. But in writing this review, I wondered in my recent travels, have I had a positive experience with Budget.....sadly the answer is absolutely not, Joe Ferraro needs to consider a career change. read more

As other reviewers have noted, this location is clearly understaffed. The line was insanely long when I arrived. However, my biggest complaint is the service I have received with my lost item. I forgot my earbuds in the car. I filed a report the same day. There are three found earbuds for recovered on the day I filed, but I don't know if any are mine because I cannot get anyone to respond to me. I have called this location countless times. No one ever answers. I keep getting routed to a full voicemail box. I have emailed customer care. I spoke to a supervisor who promised to send a note. Why even keep up the act of having a lost and found? Don't make my mistake - make sure you don't forget anything because you can just forget about getting it back. Of the remaining two "workers," one would inexplicably vanish for long periods of time. As a final kick in the junk, they charged my credit card three times for the rental. Absolutely terrible, we had reservation but still took my husband 1-2 hrs in line with super slow staff! They don't care if you have to wait. We tried to get information on the rental return because our return flight was at 6 am. Which means returning the rental, and catching their transport to the terminal at approximately 4;30 am. No information is on the website & you can't get a call to the St Louis location. Called Budget, and they have no specific information about specific locations. So we left early, go to the drop-off location, the early morning attendant was helpful, recorded our information, left the keys in the car and we hopped on the bus. Within a few minutes we were on our way to the airport. It was the only efficient process. The trip from the drop off to the terminal was less than 10 minutes. I have never had such a frustrating car rental experience in my life; while the shuttle was ready and waiting at the airport when we arrived, the process of just getting the car took OVER AN HOUR of waiting in a tight, winding line - even though there were five working agents at the counter. It was stuffy, dirty and claustrophobic. While the agents were kind enough, I couldn't understand what was taking them 20 minutes per customer - I have never experienced anything like that. We just waited and waited and waited. Whatever Budget is doing with their check in process is not working; everyone seemed to have issues, everyone was moving slow. Our car, once we finally got it, reeked of pot and smoke; the smell has lasted our whole trip. I'm praying the rental car return is faster, but because of the extremely slow service we are giving ourselves an extra HOUR of time. I will never, ever rent from Budget again, regardless of how much money I save. read more

I was given a vehicle that had expired registration, which I figured out after driving two hours from the nearest Budget office. This puts customers at risk of tickets and having the car impounded. I tried to correct this through the closest office in Springfield and was told they couldn't guarantee I wouldn't be charged for the fuel it took to get there. Can't get anyone from corporate customer service or a direct line to the airports office. By far do not recommend. Never have these issues with Enterprise and will recommend that my company bans the use of the Budget family of brands for all future travel. read more

The shuttle took 45 minutes to arrive at the airport and then didn't park in the designated pick up point. Had to run all the way to the opposite end of the terminal drive to catch it. When we arrived at the rental location the line to pick up the rental was out the door with one single agent staffing the rental counter. Then, they didn't have clean cars, so they were trying to upsell customers into a higher priced rental, or they would have to wait for someone to clean a car which would take an other hour! This is my fourth rental with Budget here at the airport. Are the lines long? Yes. It's varied for me anywhere from 10-45 mins. I come prepared for a long line and wait my turn. Every employee I've encountered has been nothing but pleasant and welcoming. Maybe if people would READ THE RENTAL AGREEMENT and what to bring to the pickup, there wouldn't be such an issue with line length. Debit cards, no drivers licenses, picked the wrong car on the website and confirmed it yet wants a different vehicle.....these are just of the few things I've witnessed while in line. No wonder the employees may throw shade. Some people just cannot follow directions. I pre-pay on the app, bring a drivers license and the credit card I booked with and I'm done in 5 minutes. Literally 5 minutes. Make it easy on yourself! The app is incredibly easy to use! My reason for 4 stars and not 5? 2/4 vehicles weren't cleaned very thoroughly (2 rented during Covid were spotless, 2 before/after Covid were not), a quick wipe down of the back of the seats and an extra vacuum would have done the trick. However, the cars have all been in good working order, ready when I arrived, and not filthy/stinky. It's a rental, I'm not expecting a $500 detail being done between every customer. We rent minivans and maybe I'm just used to kid messes and spills? Maybe I just set my expectations to reality and realize that nobody is perfect and everyone deserves kindness, and kindness starts with you. You are, after all, getting a pretty good deal on a rental. read more

Absolutely not. I will never rent from here again. I dropped my vehicle off early on a Sunday evening (after hours) and they didn't process the paperwork until Tuesday morning.... and somehow that's on me. so I got charged an additional $200 for an extra day and a late fee..... I didn't have "proof" and a Lyft receipt time stamped picking me up from that location wasn't enough. Chalk it up to an expensive life lesson and me learning about how to overprotect myself from scamming companies, but damn. This one hurts. I won't be back. I've had overnight drop-offs for rental cars many times in my life and I've never been flat-out lied to and scammed like this before. read more

upon entering the return lot, a man in plain red lanyard offered to take our car, "just leave your keys, park here, I'll help you with your luggage". Apparently he DOESN'T WORK for Budget! Thankfully a women in another vehicle said he "has no business being here". Not a safe area on a Sunday midday. The vehicle I received was unsanitary and dirty with stained seats, stains on the ceiling, crumbs in the cup holder/floor, sticky residue on the doors and a razor blade in the driver's side door. I brought this to the attention of the customer service agent and I was told that I could wipe it down myself.After refusing to do so, they sent it for another detail and the vehicle came back in the exact same condition, even with the razor blade still in the door. I was told they didn't have any more vehicles in the class I reserved and an upgrade would be $20 more per day. After looking at the upgrade vehicles, those were also dirty so I opted to keep the one I had since I was on a stick deadline. This experience and level of customer service was completely unacceptable and no one should have to experience anything like this. read more

Budget can be hit or miss, depending on your location. This one could use a little work. Price was decent and we did get a good car. Booking online was easy. Wait for the shuttle from the airport to the agency site was an eternity. Wait at the counter to get the car was excessively long. Actual rental process took a pretty long time, too, before we were directed to the vehicle we'd have for the next 5 days. Return was a bit easier, although, again waiting for the shuttle back to the airport did take a while. An okay experience. Nothing too bad or too great. We got the vehicle we wanted, so I suppose that counts for something. read more

My rental was for pickup in Buffalo, NY and return to Minneapolis, MN 10 days later. It was a mixed bag. Good news: My car (a Ford Edge, which probably met the minimum criteria for a Standard SUV) was ready at the appointed time, and had low mileage (6,500). Bad news: The front end had significant collision damage. The windshield was extremely dirty. The gas tank was at 1/8th instead of full - which put additional pressure on me to manage the tank level upon return. During the trip, the "Check Braking System" alarm came and went several times, but the brakes always seemed to work OK so we did not report it to Budget. When I checked my credit card charge after the trip, it was $21.59 higher than expected. Turns out Budget applied a $17.99 "Fuel Service" charge, plus 20.75% tax. That is in spite of their receipt's acknowledgement that the car was returned with about the same gas level as it was when I got it. I suspect that Budget is routinely charging for "Fuel Service" and backing off if the customer challenges - and that most customers don't. I did, and they backed off. I say "about the same gas level" because their receipt says I got it with 3.8 gallons and returned it with 3.6 gallons. How they can measure the gas volume in the tank to tenths of gallons is a mystery to me. The phrase "smoke and mirrors" comes to mind. I am glad that Budget is recovering from the very lean couple of COVID years, charging high rates and cutting back on expenses. I think I have done more than my part in helping them, and will try to avoid any further responsibility to support Budget. read more

Reserved a car for pickup at the St Louis Lambert location. Arrived at the location at 8:45 pm to a line of people out the door and two agents assisting people. I waited in line for 2 hours only to be told by the manager Elbert Davis at 10:45 that the computer systems went down and no cars could be rented because he was the only one that could continue to work the system (the two clerks could not) and he was going to go home to his newborn baby. Adios, come back tomorrow if you want a car. As a single woman traveling alone, I was forced to get an Uber at 11:20 pm and stand and wait for it on a dark street in front of the Budget parking lot pretty much by myself. Absolutely unacceptable. While I realize system issues happen, they could have had more people working to avoid the 2 hour wait in line in a crowded lobby. Budget put me, as well as others in danger by not offering a safe option at that time of night. I have no car and a $48 Uber bill. I did not have the time to return to this location the next morning because I had an early appointment so I rented another car from another vendor. My original rental cost has not been refunded and I have incurred an additional $183.00 rental fee for the second rental. I will never rent from Budget/Avis again. read more
