Stayed here one night after a wedding. Price was cheap, but we got what we paid for. Walls are paper thin. So my gf and I could hear everything going on around us all night. Hard to sleep. The bed, toilet and tv were ok. The hvac unit was very loud and did not keep the room temperature up. So it got very cold a night. The shower drained slowly. For a one night, on an emergency it'll do. Anything else is a hard pass for me on this place. read more

Gross.... filthy. The room smells like body odor of a person who didn't shower for 2 weeks and then spray a chemical as perfume to mask the odor. The red room smells exactly how it looks. This is not for a person who would like to rest. I think this inn is made for some kind of past time pleasure. Everything is broken, sticky and gross. There are people in the parking lot smoking marijuana and they are not even checked in there. The employees and service is budget quality. The lady who checked me inn Nov 2 was lazy. She gave me key and it didn't work. I have to go down and change it. It didn't work still. The third time I had to go down, she treated me like I don't know how to open doors and it did turn out someone was in there that was supposed to be checked out that morning but they didn't know that he is still there and that was 8pm. What a broken system. She gave me a different room and said that she will bring the key to me. Guess what, after half an hour I have to go down myself and pick up my key and didn't even said sorry and act like she didn't do anything wrong. That morning Nov.4 this housekeeper just opened my door even though I am not checked out yet. I am changing my clothes and didn't respect my privacy. I told her my CO is 1130. I told the lady who checked me in that I will check out 11:30. Obviously they don't have communication. After 20 minutes she came back and that is the second time that I told her that my check out time is 11:30. She doesn't speak and understand English and can't understand a simple 11:30. and then she pull up ther phone and do this translator thing and I was like I am not pulling this communication barrier stunt. She was so obsessed to take my room when they didn't even know someone was checked in there the other night who was supposed to. It was so annoying and such a horrible experience that they will hire people that doesn't speak english. It is so hard,annoying and disgusting place. Really loud I cannot get a rest. Respect yourself a little bit. Do not check in here. Do not spend your hard earned money in a place like this. You deserve better. There are bed bugs and flies inside the room. Had a comfortable stay here during a trip to SLO. You get what you pay for. The room was clean and pretty spacious, though the furniture was pretty outdated. It is not walkable to downtown but very close to Cal Poly university. They have a weird rule of charging $10 for every extra hour you stay over your booked time. Parking can be a little tricky if the motel is full. The included breakfast is very basic, just cereal and milk. read more

we stayed there before the pendemic so i assumed that it was still nice. we had breakfest at that time as well. therefore, i made a revervatiion on live for last summer in augsest. when we arrived the office was no longer open and we had do deal through a window. the clerk showed us the room where the furniture was worn and looked shabby. the room was also located right near the street. we did not like the room and retuned the key cards. the clerk was very rude and slammed the window and would not talk with us. the rate was also high $157. and i have not been able to get a refund! end of august 2024. read more

LOW Budget Inn Literal ROACH MOTEL. Avoid this place at all cost! I have stayed in far cheaper places that were impeccable in comparison. My wife and I booked a room here for just one night, luckily. When I checked in the attendant at the front window was inhospitable, at best, as if I was rudely wasting his precious newspaper reading time. That was just the relatively benign beginning of the nightmare that was in store. Before we even got to our room there were several things that were amiss. The steps going up to the 2nd floor felt weak and unstable. There was a dangerously wobbly, makeshift wooden ramp, bridging a sudden, inexplicable rise in the exterior walkway, as if part of the building had sunk several inches into the ground. It looks like the kind of place that frequently has robberies and SWAT raids - many of the room doors appear to have been broken open or kicked in, multiple times. As we entered our room - #201, 2nd floor, all the way to the left from the front office, closest to the street - it felt like we had wandered into a scene from some grungy 1970's B-movie. The walls were filthy, badly marked up, with rough spackle patches everywhere. The carpet was dirty, stained, sticky and was sloppily pulled up and tacked to the bottom of the walls where actual baseboards should've been installed. The floor underneath felt loose and creaky, like it might give way under our feet at any moment. The furniture was even more beat-up, damaged and filthy than the walls, and the bed was not something I was looking forward to trying out. There was a connecting double door to the next room, which had been left unlatched and ajar, on both sides! We could clearly hear the group of rowdy teenagers loudly goofing around on the other side. We figured that since it was just for one night, we'd probably be alright if we just went to CVS and bought some roach spray and pushed the refrigerator against the door or something - get up early the next morning and get the hell out, just eat the $70 room fee and consider ourselves lucky. We were so. Very. Wrong... There were cockroaches AND bedbugs... EVERYWHERE. Hundreds of the little fiends, coming out of the cracks in the walls, behind the picture frames, behind the plumbing access panel, out of the electrical power strip next to the bed, which was laying on it's side in the middle of the floor next to the bed - a huge safety hazard in itself. There were roaches crawling across the ceiling! There was no way in hell we were going to "tough it out" in this Temple of Doom for one hour, let alone a whole night! We headed back down to the front office to throw the room key in the window and say "adiós" with a one-finger salute. We didn't even care about getting our money back. But we just couldn't help ourselves. We informed the proprietor of the gruesomely abominable state of the room and that there was no way we were staying for the night. We showed him our photos and videos of this monstrous bug menagerie, which didn't seem to phase him in the slightest. We couldn't believe it when he actually offered us a SECOND NIGHT, no extra charge! We told him we didn't want to stay one night let alone two! Then suddenly he remembered, oh yes, he DID have a few more vacant rooms, and offered to show us one with 2 beds, no extra charge! Very interesting. So, out of morbid curiosity and not relishing the thought of having to find alternative accommodations so late at night, we agreed to take a look at the room. I checked every inch of the place with a flashlight and didn't see any bugs, at least. So we said it was fine, we'd take it. Only later did we notice the dried toothpaste and other mysterious substances on the obviously unwashed and refolded hand towels. Loose tub faucet handle and shower head, and small rolled up bits of brown toilet paper had been left on the bathroom floor. You can easily surmise what those could've been from. The microwave was filthy both inside and out, and this room had the same rough spackle patches all over the walls, some of them not even painted over, as if the place had been the scene of some terrible and violent encounter only days before. All together the only pluses to this room over the first one were: no bugs (that we could see), and wood grain linoleum flooring instead of filthy carpet. We got up first thing in the morning, tossed the key in the office window and promptly GTFO'ed to downtown to wash the foul taste of that abhorrent dump off of our palates. DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. It is deeply third-world and it's mind-boggling that they're still in business. Save yourself an immense amount of grief and stay at any place on Monterey Street, instead. read more

"Pet friendly" meant no charge according to the person who booked, but "pet friendly" according to staff on duty meant pets can visit at no charge but if the stay overnight, they pay. The room itself was very run down, stains and beat-up furniture. Tub/shower were stained. Big sign posted on vanity wall read "Do not Stain the Towels", the hair dryer made strange noise and emitted a burning smell--totally unusable. Does not serve breakfast and no coffee maker provided. We stayed at this hotel many times in the past while visiting our daughter when she was a student at Cal Poly, SLO. It was budget friendly then but more importantly clean and welcoming. This place is not clean, very unfriendly and not even close to budget friendly. Stated price was $180, price after taxes and "fees" which couldn't be explained or itemized on the phone ended up to be $247 PLUS the $25 fee for a declared pet for ONE uncomfortable, disgusting night. Get what you pay for. We got 1 roll of toilet paper and dirty stained towels in a run down room. Good thing for us they put us next to some guys that seem to be living in their room and go outside every 3-5 minutes to smoke and let the door slam for good measure. Upstairs patrons we're what I can only assume to be luchadors practicing for a match. Indian or Pakistani owners are weird and don't speak much English, they just stair at you. " Continental breakfast is water down coffee, fat free milk, a muffin piece that hade been cut into quarters and flake cereal. The space is the size of a closet and he brings the milk out in a pitcher and stairs at you while you make coffee, super comfortable . My refrigerator was really loud so that was cool it helped drown out the wrestling match up stairs and the revolving slamming door next door. The pillows were the equivalent of a wet half used roll of paper towels. It was seriously like a babys pillow or something. Blankets had cigarette burn holes in them and we opted to sleep on top with our own blankets. There is 2 other places across the street, I'd check them out before I stayed here again. read more

STAY AWAY. I needed to book a place the night before a conference that I was going to, and this was the only place available. I booked it through Travelocity, which had pretty good reviews, which I don't understand. People must've been on drugs when they wrote the reviews. I should have known something was weird when I saw two guys outside my motel room (outside) smoking and drinking and staring at me. I kept joking to my friends that if they don't see me in the morning, they should call the police. (Only half joking) When I got back later that night, there was another guy smoking outside of my room, and an empty beer can at the top of the steps. By the way, I didn't dare touch the stair rail because of the grossness and stickiness of it. Unexplainable stains on the steps themselves, and trash at the bottom. And we haven't even gotten into the room yet! Every door in the room had sticky, splattered soda stains and drops all over it, as well as all other kinds of dirt. Gross stains on the floor. But the real kicker was the table that you were supposed to be able to put stuff on and sit at. Unbelievable sticky disgusting dirt. I didn't put anything on it at all. I didn't dare. The two end tables were the same. There was no toilet paper holder, and they were all kinds of Mickey Mouse patch jobs in the bathroom and on the other walls. THE TOWELS WERE STAINED! Baseboards coming out from the walls, a bizarre piece of wood/patch job behind the headboard, which was so gross I almost couldn't sleep on the bed at all. Thankfully no bedbugs or roaches like the other people have talked about. So many other dirty disgusting things, there's not enough space to write about all of them. I called the 800 number and got transferred to one of their motel somewhere. Tried three more times, no luck. I don't think there's a corporate office at all. The front desk guy was nice enough, but when I checked and he kept saying I couldn't smoke in the room otherwise they would take money from my credit card! They're worried about people smoking in the room, and you can barely walk in there without throwing up. Awesome. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN? Mmmkay? We booked last minute on a Saturday and this was one of the only available, drove 4 hours to not be kindly greeted, and to be given a very old gross room that has never been updated or worked on and felt very unsafe. In asking for a refund of my $265, they asked to check the room, I said sure but it will not change my mind. They do not give refunds but I DID not budge! I can stay at a nicer motel 6 for this price!!!! I am now snuggled in a very nice safe and comfy hotel for just 30$ more and I get breakfast and friendliness and all the other things that I think are important when running a hospitbusiness read more

The following is a letter I sent to Budget Inn Corporate email (a Gmail account) and have yet to receive a reply. I included video of two issues unfortunately, Yelp doesn't have the ability to post video (and I think that's a good thing!) I recently stayed at your 1001 Olive St location in San Luis Obispo, CA and never in all my years of travel have I ever encountered such sub par accommodations. On 3/19/15, my business partner and I checked into rooms 101 and 103. I stayed in 103 and need to let you know my experience. The carpeting at the door to the bathroom was literally soaking wet (and we checked in at 11:30 pm), so large was the area that I had to use rubber bath mat to cover part of it so I could use the bathroom without my feet getting soaked every time (see attached picture). The fire alert system was unplugged so the the desk lamp and the tv could be plugged in. (see attached video), a serious code violation. I was unable to hang up any clothes to prevent wrinkling as the hookless hangers were all missing (see attached picture). In order to use the microwave I had to unplug the refrigerator (one of the two outlets was permanently covered to prevent both being used at the same time). The carpet was so completely filthy that when I got in the shower I left black foot prints in the tub from my feet (dirt or black mold?). While in the shower, the pipe holding the hand held shower was so rusted that the shower attachment literally fell off, spraying water all over the bathroom (thus explaining the soaking carpet by the door) along with rust bits every where. (see attached video). Because it was so late and the hotel was sold out I wasn't able to change rooms, so I made sure to vacate as soon as possible (I was out by 7:30). Should it have been earlier when we arrived and we were able to get other accommodations some where else I can assure you we would have. I am in the hospitality industry as well (I'm a restaurant consultant and trainer) and would never tolerate such lack of even minimum standards. I don't know if the location is franchised or corporately owned but there seems to be a definite lack of accountability and oversight for the quality of the rooms (my business partner was also suffered black footprints, a lack of working outlets and lack of hangers as well). Please address these issues, if I had been in a wheelchair I wouldn't have been able to change rooms, I would be forced to endure these conditions. read more

Carpet was sticky, cigarette burns in the blankets, baseboards falling off, a plastic bag over the the smoke detector (WTF!?), a huge chunk of hair in the shower, the headboard wasn't attached to the bed.. or the wall... so I'm sure our neighbors heard every movement. So far I've stayed here 3 nights. Out of all the affordable places I've stayed at in SLO, this one is great. Very reasonably priced. The same lady checks me in... always remembers me, greets me with a smile & is always super helpful & understanding. Even though I kinda got frustrated with an issue I had with one of my reservations, (I had a very long & stressful day), she graciously worked with me & we figured out the best solution together. For a budget hotel, don't expect anything to be upgraded but expect to have a clean, safe & warm room. Their rooms are also bigger than other affordable places I've stayed. The experience was Horrendous. The folks managing it (owners?) have no idea what they are doing. Horrible Customer Service. I don't think they even know that Customer Service is even a thing. Sheets had blood on them! So disgusting. Towels were stained! Have they heard of Bleach and Hot Water? If anything buy new sheets if you can't get the stain out! I called to make reservations to let them know my little terrier would be there with us and they were fine on the phone. $10 extra charge for small dog which is fine. Then that night the manager called yelling at me on the phone and asked if I had a dog. I said yes of course. Then he yelled saying I had to pay more. I tried talking to let him know I did mention it during reservation and when I checked in all seemed fine. He wouldn't let me get a word in, yelled on top of me trying to get a word in. I just hung up and went downstairs to pay more. He yelled in person too. Then on top of it, the second night he called while we were trying to sleep and told us to stop making noise! Uuugh!!! We booked two nights at this motel because it was supposedly the cheapest place on Booking.com. $300 a night!! You read that right. THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS. We checked in and we then checked out after 2 hours of being in our room. A blood stain was on one of the pillows. Sheets were moth eaten. The outlets barely worked. Paint was chipped on the walls. Everything seemed like it dated back to 1978 except for the TV. We then found a room for nearly the same rate at a much nicer hotel near downtown SLO! Almost criminal to charge us that much money for this janky motel. Stay away from this place! And always check the Yelp reviews before you book a motel. Would've saved us a huge headache. read more

Budget Inn is... budget. When we got to the room there was ash in the sink and bathtub. Seems to me like if you're going to pretend to clean the rooms, you would wanna at least cover up anything glaring like that. I guess my mistake is assuming that they care. Well....not much to say here. The guy at the desk was friendly enough. Toilet didn't clog and the shower had hot water. But that's about where the positives end. It's right up against freeway and you can hear every vehicle pass by. The room is very very rough. The place is dilapidated. If you're squeamish about "dirty" hotels, don't bother. Many of the fixtures are loose or broken, dry wall patches on 4 of the walls, you can feel the springs in the bed, and, you can here the person upstairs walking back and forth. Picture a crack hotel in any movie and it's pretty spot on; I was from 1:00 - 2:30 AM because of the loud noise (person upstairs walking around and lout outside talking and noise). One of the most discourteous and unpleasant experiences in hotels Been using Booking.com and have been delighted with them so used them to book this hotel. They took the reservation with my request for 2 rooms for 3 nights. One of the rooms was for a handicap room with access My guest arrived at the hotel and not only did they not have it as requested they were short and obnoxious with my guests. They cancelled and went across the street to the Ramada. The Budget Inn wanted me to still pay 376 cancellation fee After 45 minutes with the hotel and another 30 with Booking.com I got it reserved. Went by on the way home to ask for a refund, and the manager said we should have complained earlier! They shouldn't be able to make money off of spreading horrible bugs! This by far one of the worst places I have ever stayed at. 124.00 booking price on Booking .com. Pet friendly? After an extra fee of $35 was placed in a room that smelled worse than a kennel. Cable convieniently didn't work until manager had to turn it on. I personally felt that is just a way for him him come into your room and spy on you. He voluntarily assured me that there was not a camera in the room, just a dangling antenna wire that goes to the canle box. Hmmm? After about 20 minutes in the room a strange suspicious character came to my widow looking for a girl that used to live in that room. Needlessly to say I give 0 stars. My wife and I and our two children decided to stay here on our way to LA . When we did the booking the room look absolutely Beautiful , and very clean. But upon entering the room it was the total oposite and I have pictures to prove it. Stained towels, electrical sockets not in screw to the wall . Walls were patched up horribly . Dirty floors. Bathtub was peeling. Roof ventilation in the bathroom was bulky and sagging . I would highly recommend that you never enter this nightmare of a roach motel ! BED BUGS! This place is your worst nightmare. Both of us were bitten numerous times on our legs and torso. The air conditioning is also a health hazard, it was molded and we removed the air filter ourselves and it was caked with junk. I scooped a layer of gunk into the garbage can. If we had not arrived late at night, we would have left this place and found somewhere else to stay. The shower was also molded and too gross to use. I will be reporting this motel to the Health Department of San Luis Obispo County when we get home from vacation.
