I arrived on 5/29 and was disappointed with my stay. The coffee maker in my room was not working, and when I went downstairs to ask if I could have some coffee since coffee is served in the mornings, I was told no. The room phone was also not working, and we ran out of conditioner with no replacement provided. There was no daily housekeeping service, and the front desk staff were not friendly or helpful. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience, and unfortunately, it will be my first and last time staying here. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel and will not be returning. read more

Our room was small, dingy, the bed was very uncomfortable and the air conditioning was very old, noisy and was not working properly. We were drenched in sweat because it was so hot. Had a 3 night stay here over Father's Day/Juneteenth weekend. Room was fine, nice view of the Rock. Front desk staff upon check-in was perfunctory/not welcoming and the car charger in the basement didn't work during our stay. Our main issue is the attitude of the owner and the way they handled an issue we had during our stay (and afterward). If hospitality doesn't matter and you don't mind being charged a hefty chunk of change for a toilet breaking during your stay - then this is the hotel for you! What happened? My husband went to sit on the toilet and leaned back too much - the tank snapped at the base, releasing all the water from the tank and flooding the bathroom. The hotel handled the whole episode terribly - with NO ONE even talking with us about what had happened. They just assumed we were at fault and that we broke the toilet intentionally. Because of the holiday weekend, the hotel was full so there was nowhere to move us that night (they suggested we could use the toilet down one floor, near the gym!). They offered another room the next day but for one more night, we decided to stay put (my husband has neurological issues so would not be able to assist packing us up and moving us, then unpacking again at the new room - it would all have been up to me). (We filled the trash can with water and flushed the toilet bowl with that - also solely up to me to do, because of my husband's handicap.) Before we had even checked out, there was an additional $400 charge to our credit card for the broken toilet (on top of the $100 deposit on our card). I repeat - no one asked us about the incident. They just assigned blame and cost to us. I talked with the hotel manager and she was sympathetic and said that the hotel owner issued the order to charge us for the incident. Some hospitality! My guess is that she (the owner) didn't want an insurance claim and decided passing the buck onto us would relieve her of responsibility. I submit that something like this is the responsibility of the hotel - it is part of the normal course of business that things will break and need to be replaced or repaired. The tank could have been bolted too tightly; the tank had too much of a gap between it and the wall, stressing the tank over time! Placing blame on us was an easy default - even Booking.com, whom we reserved the rooms through, agreed that this kind of problem is the hotel's, not ours. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS. Our family meets in Morro Bay every year, reserving half a dozen rooms around town (spreading the wealth!). You can be absolutely sure Hotel Avisa will not get any of our business or recommendations. read more

Good location but why would you not offer something as water after hours. I come to Morro bay as a tourist and you already have water in the lobby but close it at 11pm. Why can't you put the available water next to the microwave that you have as the 1 assembly to everyone. I would have paid for the water after a long day of drinking and site seeing. I have to say that for the price just was worth staying two nights. But I have to add that. I wouldn't stay there again for the following reasons. First we arrived, and there was no soap in the dispenser. Instead of filling it when we told them, they gave us two small bars of soap. The cable they had to as awful. It kept freezing and also repeating commercials several times . I have never seen that before. The worst part of our day was the AC. I have a unit in the corner of the room and it sounded like a jet taken off. It also wasn't consistent and so the second night we were very uncomfortably hot. The price was right at the time. We walked into a bathroom with black mold on the shower door and standing water because the shower wouldn't drain. We were moved to another room "to accommodate us," but it wasn't much better -- the bathroom trim was destroyed, and there were visible stains on the floors. We have a 1-year-old, so this was completely unacceptable and felt unsafe. We ended up leaving after just 2 hours. The front desk agreed we would get a refund, but the manager only gave us a partial refund, claiming we "used the room." She even denied the mold existed -- despite the fact I have photos. I will say as a visitor for 2 days the hotel was alright. Seemed they did some updates recently. To those commenting about black mold I definitely did see it in the room. Being in a humid climate it's understandable why there would be black mold but we can't excuse it because it's toxic. We just slept with the window open. The staff were friendly. Parking is tiny we had a Chevy equinox and the spots are very tiny to accommodate. I will say they will charge your $100 security deposit at around 8 am the day of your check in. This process being from Vegas is very unusual. You shouldn't put pay at counter if that's your hotel policy. No where in the fine print did it say it either. For the price $349 for 2 nights we're not complaining too much but they could do better. I'm a bit spoiled being from Vegas but I will say painting over your mold is never a good look. Decent hotel for the price. Rooms were clean and well appointed. Location is one long block from the Morro Bay waterfront, and there is a "peekaboo" view from the bayside rooms. Note that guests to the hotel must opt-in for housekeeping service; otherwise, there is no cleaning service for that day. That worked pretty well for us-we just had the bathroom and sink area done daily. Whether the management decided to do this to save money or for the environment, it's a decent setup, especially if you are the least bit territorial about your space. read more

Waking up to a view of Morro Rock and the bay every morning was really nice. - Big windows for lots of sunlight - Large, spacious king room with tv, microwave, and mini fridge - Parking lot spacing is odd, we chose to park on the Main Street because the parking lot was crowded - Our receptionist was wearing a mask, but another receptionist helping someone else was not. There was a plastic plexiglass barrier set up as well between receptionists and customers - Hand sanitizer stations outside of the elevator - We chose to forgo room service due to COVID but were able to request towels and amenities I'd we needed - Bed was comfortable and room suited our needs - Only 2 blocks from the water/downtown, so definitely a good spot location wise read more

Very disappointed in this hotel management. We checked into our room quickly, since it was a little later, to go grab dinner and take our girls to Morro Rock. Once we came back, we noticed not only black mold in the bathroom but also the bathroom drain would not drain. We have little girls so we immediately called the front desk. Long story short, the replacement room was no better. The real disappointing part is that when we called the next day for a refund, they will not refund our full amount because we had checked in for two hours, even though we had only been in the actual room for maybe 30 minutes. The only good part was the front desk attendant, who helped us that night as he had seen the black mold and the drainage problems. Here's the deets: Pros: -Great location just a short 5min walk from the Embarcadero--which is Morro Bay's hot-spot for restaraunts, shops and all seaside activities--and a short 5-8min drive to Morro Bay State Park. -Garage & free street parking -Free breakfast -Free Wi-Fi -Room is very comfortable and not cramped -Fridge, Microwave, 42" HDTV and a Keurig® coffee maker! -Porch w/ possible views of Morro Rock -Gym and laundromat -《$100/night!? Maybe because this is the off-season (Dec) -Easy check-in Cons: -Bed is too firm and springy for my liking -No USB charging ports in the room--make sure you bring a plug! -Wi-Fi is pretty slow (see pic) and it kept kicking me off after periods of inactivity -Television reception was pretty poor for some channels; I'm assuming they use satellite. Also the TV was a bit small for the size of the room but that's semantics... Overall a really great place to stay if you're visiting the area. Like slapping makeup on a pig. Terrible. Where do I start? The smell? The rooms smell awful of mold, their "remodel" is lazy work. Leaving unpatched holes in the walls and stains on the floors. My favorite part was the housecleaning woman who opened my door while I was changing at 10am this morning. I even had the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door. No knock, no house keeping call, just opened my door. I was appalled as I stood in my room with no shirt on and the house cleaner LAUGHED. No apology, just laughed. I understand and can speak Spanish as well, so hearing them outside my door laughing about the situation was also lovely. This place is nothing but ratchet. My significant other and I booked a room here on a Wednesday night. It was not that busy and we were given the worst room in the building. Ask the manager she'll let you know. With no one to run the front desk after hours, I had to call the manager at 6 am to put us in another room because room 312 was a nightmare. Backed up plumbing problems, no soap, no hot water, no TV. It was awful, and we stayed because we got in late. Which reminds me, front desk kid earlier rushed us over because his shift was almost over. Inconvenient to say the least. Not the best stay. Anyway I tell the manager there is no hot water and she knows... she even follows up with "yeah and I bet the water pressure was terrible too." I said there was no TV, she said "yeah, it's just really complicated." I said the sink was back up she said "yeah I know, I should have probably put the room out of order." So knowing all of this she still put us in there. I've been calling for days and the manager is never there. I can't get ahold of her anymore. Oh and this was the second time we stayed. The first time we stayed we found painters tape on our door, preventing it from latching. So ratchet. This place stinks. Stay away. read more

The location is spot on, so to speak. The front desk staff were very courteous and helpful. They helped me when I asked for something. It was a quiet facility, didn't hear any noises. Our experience at Hotel Avisa was pretty great! The bed was comfortable, but I am pretty tall and would prefer a king bed next time. and the proximity to Morro Bay activities was excellent! We were able to walk to pretty much everywhere we wanted to go in Morro Bay. It's also close to the Garden Gallery and the Shell Shop which I love to spend time in. The front desk people were friendly, chatty, and helpful. The ambiance was really nice, and the room had a beautiful view of Morro Rock and the ocean. The bathroom was clean, but nothing special. No bath or fancy add-ons, just a walk-in shower. I would stay here again, but there is nothing particularly WOW about the property. read more

Adios ' Avisa We have stayed here with our good friends 6-7 times over the last 20 years when property was the Dolphin/Comfort Inn. Sad to say , this will be our last stay. We realize that the hotel now has a new name and is undergoing upgrades, but the state of housekeeping and maintenance repairs was disappointing and we did make sure to report items to the staff so we would not incur any additional fees ( 2 persons 2 nights / $438.08 total) The A/C grill was filthy and broken off, no dial in refrigerator, sliding glass door spattered and dirty from inside, another occupants key cards found in drawer, patio furniture was moldy/ deteriorated, lichen growing on balcony partitions. Had to ask for bar soap as that too was missing. Soap also missing from our friends room, but they earned and uneaten sandwich in their refrigerator . Sandwich returned to the front desk as a 'lost and found' item. We did note new beds, new carpet, fixtures, room furnishings and that the hotel is quiet. 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel each was available . Sadly, they lobby coffee/tea/ cold water no longer available and the included breakfast NO longer exists with the cost of your stay. The front desk staff was cordial , explained about staffing and issues with electrical problems, but when I revealed photos they fully understood our concerns . The ocean view rooms are 'highly requested' , but shouldn't they also be a stellar representation of what the hotel accommodations has to offer? Sadly, we must say Adios' and will be booking elsewhere after all these years. read more

This place I feel is over charging for their rooms, there is no pool and no spa and to top that off the beds were not comfortable like other places. There is no hot breakfast ! They only give you a paper bag with a egg/sausage/cheese sandwich and a harvest breakfast bar and a container of orange juice. If you pay extra for a room with a balcony and they stick you on the second level the balcony is so small that you can only stand there and no room for a chair, but if you get lucky and your room is on the third level then it is much wider and there is two chairs with a small table. The TV channels are limited and to top that off the WiFi was very bad reception, I had to use my own hot spot on my phone to get good reception for my iPad. You are not able to have a late checkout. This place should be a step-up from Quality Inn, but instead it is Not. This place should really be named the Econo Lodge or The Roadway Inn. The good things about this place is they are only two blocks from the wharf and they have underground parking and there is an elevator and a small fitness room and they allow late check in. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place. I booked pretty last minute so it was probably more overpriced than should have been. I found that booking directly on their site was the cheapest option, especially if you sign up for the reward points program that they have. Besides that, the hotel and the room itself were very clean and had everything you might need to be comfortable- microwave, fridge, coffee maker. Comfortable beds, nice view. Close to the Embarcadero and downtown. The parking lot is underground and plenty of spaces available. The fitness room is so-so, but ok for a hotel. They had grab and go breakfast in the morning, and coffee/tea/oatmeal available all day in the lobby. The breakfast was ok for COVID times- a breakfast taco or sandwich, granola bar and orange juice. Can't vouch for the taste of it all, but my kids approved. The lobby coffee was slightly worse than what you'd expect from a budget hotel lobby coffee (but I'm a big coffee snob) so my suggestion would be to just brew yours on their in-room Keurig. Besides that, seems to be a pretty reasonable option to stay in Morro Bay (which you must visit!) read more

Comfort Inn at Downtown Morro Bay was a wonderful surprise. With a last minute trip, I booked 3 weeks ahead and was lucky to get reservations. We arrived Sunday an hour early from check in (3pm) and was greeted by front staff with a warm hello and smile. Our room was not ready so we left and came back a little before 3pm. Our room was clean and had more than we needed, with a Keurig, a microwave, a fridge, a desk, 28" flat-screen, multiple outlets on the nightstand and desk, single use basic toiletries, and most of all the beds are comfy. Showerheads are outdated and could use replacement, nonetheless it still does the job. Room temperature was comfortable and we fell asleep with the balcony door open (we came end of July and cool weather with marine layer in full effect!) Keep the TV off and from a faint distance, you'll hear seagulls, fishing boat horns, and yes - those are otters lol!!! It is "downtown" in this sleepy coastal town, but all walking distance from shops and restaurants. It is located in a residential area, so if you appreciate quiet and away from the bustle of main streets this is surely ideal. We are very pleased with the overall quality and service received at Comfort Inn. Thank you Comfort Inn for a pleasant stay, we look forward to coming back :) read more

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL THEY VIOLATE THE AMERCIAN DISABLITY ACT If you have any sympathy for the elderly or the handicap you will not stay at this hotel. We reserved the handicap room back in October 2013. When we arrived in January the shower handle was missing. We found it out it had been broken for over 3 months, well before we made our reservation. Yet they made no effort to fix it before we arrived or while we were there. My 93 year old mother in law, who is confined to wheel chair was unable to take a proper shower the entire time we were there. When we emailed them afterwards their response was full of misrepresentations and lies. Shame on them. They should have offered us a full refund and fixed the shower handle. read more

We didn't walk into the bathroom until we were all unpacked and realized the urine smell. Sad to pass on however our room was not as listed. Their no pets policy was untrue as dogs or service animal(s) probably urinate all over the carpet and bathroom floors. Carpets were stained and the restroom flooring had a strong urine stench. The patio screen was most likely ripped by a dog. We complained to the front desk at checked out time for our one night stay and hopefully they will remedy the problem before renting the room to others. Great location and good prices. Room Was recently upgraded and the bed was nice and firm. Main complaint was how dusty the room was and the sitting area by the stairs. They don't have housekeeping during the stay so I ended up dusting the trim and bathroom myself. By day 3, someone dusted off my initials in the hallway. I have never in my entire life stay at a hotel like this we stayed two nights for $459.00. This place is a dump. The staff is very rude. The iron didn't work the phone didn't work the towels were dirty. The hotel itself is not clean it all. When I called the front Dess to advises of the problems that were happening. It's been quite awhile since we've stayed at a 2 star hotel so this was such a pleasant surprise. We needed to book rooms for a loved ones memorial and ended up here. It was clean and quiet, great location, just what we needed. The staff made it 5 stars! I can't say enough about their kindness and hospitality. Lacey welcomed us and offered heartfelt condolences when she found out why we were there. We had family driving in from across the country. When we found out some would be there earlier than expected, she made a note on their room. When I went downstairs in the morning to find Brian working at the desk, he knew who we were and kindly reassured me he would do everything to get them a room ready ASAP. It was ready and perfect. Not a place to stay if you have a legitimate service animal. They were not welcoming to me or our service dog. Upon making the reservation I had posted in their hotel notes that I was bringing our service dog. When I checked in and mentioned I had a service dog the manager seemed to be taken by surprise and had me sign some document about service animals. Never had any such thing happen when I have stayed at a Marriott or a Hilton. Also noticed an additional $1.00 charge on my credit card, evidently this is their "service dog" fee. One other thing, the staff leaves the facility at night and does not return until 7 AM so there is no one at the front desk. read more

Recently renovated hotel. Very clean, spacious and close to the bay. It's nothing special, but it does the job of providing you with a good night sleep. So, if you are like me and traveling from LA to SF on Highway 1, this is a good spot to stop, rest and continue the journey up north. The only real downside was the breakfast. Front desk Karen. The girl at the hotel front desk just after 11:30 Sat night 4/9 was incredibly rude and literally said she was calling the police on us because our TV was too loud. My hearing is not great so it's very possible it was too loud, but the very first time she called she was very hostile and said she was calling the police on us after I'd already let her know we'd turn it down (and immediately did). The police never came BTW, but I've never experienced anything like it and don't care to again, which is why my wife and I won't be staying here again at least as long as front-desk Karen is still employed here. All she had to do was politely ask us to turn the TV down, we'd apologize for disturbing anyone and immediately turn it down (like rational adults). See, this way we're not wasting law enforcement's valuable time and upsetting your guests by talking to them like children? Other than that, the hotel was basic but good. Comfortable bed, seemed clean, and a walkable to the downtown area. Turned what had been a great trip into a bit of a bummer. read more

Check-in was quick and easy; clerk was friendly and informative. They offer a quality breakfast option and free covered parking. It was clean but I won't plan on staying here again. Why was it so hot??? It was cool outside but the place was so hot that we were constantly sweating! The elevators, hallways and all common areas, including the breakfast room, were the worst. AC worked but not well. Beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. Water pressure not good. Internet did not work and front desk offered no reason or solution. And if you're going to provide a coffee pot and coffee for the morning, why leave decaf coffee only? I know some like it but I'm sure most prefer caffeinated. Oh yes... cups for that coffee would be great as well.
