I drove through a few tools and had to pay cash. Decided to stop in Indiana to get the toll pass I paid for and Eric really helped me out. He also saw that I was charged an extra charge for gas! so he took care of that for me! read more

She also stated that corporate "doesn't know what they're doing." Came in on a Sunday to rent a full sized vehicle. There was only one gentleman working at the front desk and one behind the scenes cleaning cars and 4 people in line ahead of me. The gentleman behind the counter handled himself very well and was kind and considerate. They didn't have the vehicle that I had reserved so I got a lovely new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Terrible experience with Bill. Not even through with my first sentence with Jessica and Bill rudely jumps into the conversation. Jessica ended up having to go on her lunch I'm guessing cause she left before my transaction was finished; left to deal with Bill and his being unhelpful. Here are the details; on 6/6/17 rented a car at the Canton airport budget counter, Raven helped us here. We planned on having the car until 6/10/17 returning at O'Hare in Chicago. The friends we stayed with in Indiana were able to drive us around for the rest of the week, so we decided to save money and return the car at this Budget in Merrillville on 6/8/17. Prior to making the trip to Merrillville, I called the 213 number and was transferred to their call center in India. I explained the situation and made sure that it wouldn't be much of a hassle for me to return the car to Merrillville instead of O'Hare and even though we were supposed to have the car till 6/10/17 that we wouldn't be charged for the 2 extra days, and that since we had $150 in corporate coupons that those would still be applied towards the rental. India was only helpful in the way of putting in the Budget system that I would be returning the car to Merrillville instead of O'Hare, nothing at all with the charge for the rental. Understandable since I didn't rent the car on their local system, their supervisor was out, whatever the case. I get to Merrillville and speak to Jessica, about to tell her the situation and Bill cuts in and says something to the effect of ' oh here comes a story ' or something. Honestly I didn't quite hear cause I wasn't talking to him. Rude the way he cuts in. I finish telling Jessica that I'm turning it in early, I don't want to be charged for the full 4 days, I need the prepaid gas to be taken off of the charge because I had gassed it up earlier and have the receipts from Speedy gas station, and that I need for the $150 in corporate discounts to still be applied to the rental; making the total for our now 2 day rental less than $100 give or take. Like I had mentioned, Jessica had to go do something or take her lunch so Bill finished the transaction. Not much of a word from him except at the end of the transaction he says I'm good to go and hands over the receipt. Total comes out to about $395, and I tell him it's wrong and all the adjustments that weren't made even though I told Jessica with him, Bill, standing right there before he took over the transaction. They ended up charging me for 5 days of rental instead of 2, they didn't discount the prepaid gas even though they checked the fuel gauge and reported on the receipt that it was returned 'full' and to make matters worse and prove that Bill was not willing to go an extra inch let alone an extra mile for a customer at his store he told me that he couldn't do anything about the final price since we rented it from Canton and not his store. Seriously, it would have bothered Bill too much to pick up the phone he was hovering over and all the Canton lot. He told me that I could call the Canton lot and clear it up with them. Not my job Bill, you're being unhelpful again. I did call the 303 Canton store to be transferred to India again, this time speaking with a supervisor and again as much help as they could be they helped me feel a little better about the situation by telling me I'd be charged just for for the 2 days. They couldn't say anything else since the rental was recent as of that day 6/8 and once I get the final receipt by email I could be able to tell exactly what adjustments had been made or still needed to be made. Bottom line Bill at this Merrillville location is only unhelpful, obviously won't lift a finger if he doesn't absolutely have to and doesn't take responsibility for his job. The least he could say is that he wishes he could help but can't cause it's not his store or explain the process to someone like me who isn't too familiar with the procedure, but like I said he wouldn't bother to lift a finger. So here I am, a week later on 6/14 as I write this and still no final receipt in the email, and still no charge for the rental, I get it 5-7 business days to close it out so we'll see. Avoid this location. read more

This may be a small rental location with minimal staff but they treated me great! I had an issue with the renal car. I talked to Bill he took care of it with a smile. I saved hundreds by not renting at ohare and taking the bus down and renting in Merriville. A bit more difficult but well worth the savings. read more

I rented a car from here and was told insurance was included. I said I don't need it because my auto insurance covers me for rental. She said if she took it off the rate would go up because it was a special rate. Well, this was all a lie. When I turned the car in at my destination, he removed the added-on insurance and I paid about $50 less. Also, they check your credit without your authorization. I will not ever rent from Budget ever again. Customers should not be treated like this. read more

I booked my car online through car rentals.com. We received a 2015 Expedition Xl for $622 for 8 days and unlimited miles. I arrived early to pick up the car and Donovan was more than helpful! He allowed me to take it and even gave us an extra day since the website booked our return for a day they were closed. I waited to post review until we returned. He held true to his word and credited the day. Check in was seamless and both employees were helpful. I would definitely rent again from Budget! Note to everyone that doesn't read the fine print ...don't blame the employees! Another customer in there was charged extra $300 bc she didn't get unlimited miles. I have never had such a poor experience with a company in my life! If I could give zero starts I would. I reserved a mini van for our family vacation 5 months prior to vacation. Went to pick it up and they had none saved for us! This was close to closing time on a Saturday so there was nothing they could do. They gave us a ridiculously huge van that was not ideal for driving up through the mountains. We had to clean this van ourselves bc it was filthy and not to mention it wasn't cleaned so there were Covid concerns. We took time out of our road trip to switch it out for an actual mini van at another location in Kentucky. On Monday I called and spoke with Greg the manager who said I would have to call customer service for a monetary compensation for our troubles. He did say we could have a day for free. Once we returned the van after vacation I noticed my husbands credit card was charged an extra $111. Called the Merrillville location again asking why and they told me they would put in for a refund and it would take 3-5 business days. It has now been 6 business days and still no refund. If you have an issue with them you need to call customer service not the location. I called CS several times and they tell me the location office needs to initiate a refund and then CS takes care of it. The office said they put in for a refund but CS says they didn't. There is a huge disconnect between the offices and CS and you can't get a clear cut answer bc the offices can't just call CS they have to email. That's funny bc I can call CS. It's just insane that all the trouble I've had with them and no one is willing to help me get a refund for a charge that should never have happened in the first place. I will NEVER again use Budget. Ever!!! They have been nothing but a nightmare having to deal with! read more

My service today was horrible. They offer pickup and drop off service on their website. When I get here they say they don't. So I show them where it's on the website. I'm told to use my phone and call customer care. The cc rep says it's not offered, I give the actual web page now the rep story changes to. We need 24 hour notice, when I say ok I'll bring it back in 24 hrs it changed to. They won't take you if they don't want. Now I ask for a GM of this location number or email address. I'm told we only have a store email. So I say can you discount me for the day or part of the day since I have to catch a cab. I'm told they can't adjust only corporate can. How can you not adjust if you can add corp discounts and extra charges. This location has screwed me since I have had the rental for a week and a half. First I added days on with an extended rental. Then I was called the next day asking why I hadn't returned the car. Then when I came in to add 3 more days on. I was told my rate was incorrect and had to pay almost $70 more. Be very careful when you rent a car from this place.Each location has a rate on the company website for each day.This location charged me $52.99 for an subcompact when the price on line was $30.99 for the day.When I called to ask about it they hung up on me.When I called customer service they hung up on me.Before you rent ,go online and get the price,print it out and show it to them.I will still rent from them but always check on line for their daily rate.The rate changes from day to day.I WOULD REPORT THEM TO THE STATE BUT I DON'T WANT TO BE BANNED FROM RENTING A CAR. read more

The Budget in Merrillville is not efficient. The manager Julie is so mean, old, and testy with the customers. No smile, no thank yous, or apologies for the long waits and discrepancies with what the computer promises versus what you get once you get there. Dirty vehicles and no customer care.
