I rented a car from your website and got confirmation #36276126US5 (called Car 2) Morning 12/7/25, I parked Car 1 at Love Field Airport flew to Houston Hobby, I arrived at the rental location, fastbreak manager did not honor my rental and did not allow me to pick up my rental Car 2 with a reason that I have an open rental Car 1, so you can not rent another Car 2. I must rent from Thrifty. Please refund my prepaid rental Car 2 for $59.76. And fix your website to detect the open rental before confirming and wasted my time took a shuttle drive to and I must return to the airport to get to Thrifty. Bad website and bad policy! read more

This was a really bad experience, unfortunately. I made a reservation 8 weeks ago to pick up a car at 1:00. I did the pre-registration that's supposed to shorten your wait time. She handed me back my drivers license and kept my credit card, called out in a radio and then I just stood there .. for 20m and I finally asked "are you waiting for someone to return a car to give it to me?" .. and "yes" was the only response I got. No expectation of a time frame, nothing. At the 40m mark I heard the person on the radio say they had some cars, but not what I had booked. I didn't care, I just wanted to leave!!! So I took a different model and they said they would bring it up to the building, so outside in the 100 degree heat to wait... And wait... And went back in after 15m too find out that they'd parked it and didn't tell us!!!! The line of people behind us at the counter just kept getting bigger and bigger. Zero stars Never again While the initial pickup and return shuttle to the airport were timely, that was unfortunately the only positive aspect of our experience. Upon arrival at the service counter, we were met with an unfriendly and visibly disinterested representative. Her attitude and lack of professionalism set a poor tone for the rest of our interaction. Sadly, things only deteriorated from there. The first vehicle we were assigned was in unacceptable condition -- I looked around for a camera man - I thought we were being punked - the exterior was filthy, the interior smelled strongly of marijuana, and there were food crumbs and visible stains throughout. Ironically, the car had a posted notice warning of a $450 cleaning fee if returned in poor condition -- yet it was given to us in that state. We returned to the counter and requested a different vehicle. The next representative was more helpful and assigned us another car. However, as we attempted to leave, we discovered the windshield washer fluid was empty. When we pulled over to the cleaning area, the attendant explained the machine for refilling washer fluid was broken and proceeded to pour in water manually. Even after two gallons, the system still did not work -- a clear safety issue. We were directed to return again for another vehicle. The third vehicle, too, reeked of marijuana. The fourth had a damaged windshield wiper -- the blade was literally hanging off the arm. After nearly an hour running around the hot parking lot, tired from early travel, we were again met with dismissive and unhelpful comments like, "Sir, these are rental cars -- they are not the best." We were simply asking for a basic, clean, safe vehicle -- not luxury -- just something roadworthy and without health hazards. The fifth vehicle finally seemed usable, though it had dents and wasn't filled with gas. We had prepaid for fuel at $2.79/gallon, but were later charged $2.88/gallon. While a small discrepancy, it reflects the lack of consistency and attention to detail throughout this experience. On top of that, we were charged for 8 gallons of gas for just 100 miles -- nearly double the actual usage. We have rented vehicles at many airports and travel frequently, but this was hands down the worst rental experience we've ever had -- from poor customer service to unacceptable vehicle conditions. It was stressful, exhausting, and frankly unacceptable, especially considering the cost. We will not be using Budget again and hope you take this feedback seriously to improve your service and vehicle quality standards. read more

I was charged upfront for a 3-day rental car, and I made sure to ask several times if there would be any additional charges. your employee told me there wouldn't be any extra charges. However, when I received my bill, it was more than double what I initially paid. The service was terrible, full of lies and scams, and very deceptive. I returned a rental car on September 27 after putting $46 in gas and they lied and said only 6 gallons remained in the gas tank. They charged me $176 for fuel. Reser in the Sacramento office did a bait and switch with me. He suggested I upgrade from a Chevy bolt to a jeep for $25 additional a day so my contract changed from $117 to $183 plus taxes so I thought. When I looked at my credit card, there was a charge for $892.17 for a 3 day rental. Reser charged me $258 a day!! No one on their right mind would agree to this upcharge!! I have contacted Budget many times but to no avail. My credit has taken a hit and I feel Budget took advantage of me. Recently, I was booked a vehicle from McGhee Tyson Airport. I booked a standard SUV through Booking.com but they were some thing mess-up handed overed to me a Mini van with big charge. It was my old cancelation one but not this high charge. I called to customer service also and they tried to help. Terrible. The car they rented me had body damage and drove poorly. Plus it smelled awful, like smoke, other people's body odor, and a terrible air freshener. Any other time I have rented a Tesla through a competitor, it has come with the charging adapter. This car was missing it. Tried calling budget and spent twenty minutes getting bounced around from representative to representative, only to have to drive all the way back to the airport, wait in line for another half hour and have the attendant tell me that they don't include the charging adapter because people were stealing them. You'd think they could fix that issue, like hello how about just charge people for it? Plus the key was in such poor condition it looked like someone had run it over multiple times and then put it through a garbage disposal. Worst rental experience. Rented a car at Budget airport location for one day. Return was at an offsite location because we were leaving on a cruise. Airport location gave us no paperwork at all, gave us keys and told us where the car was parked. Told us there was a paper with a number in the car to give to the guy at the exit. The paper looked like a post it note. We put our luggage in the car and as we were getting into it, another couple told us they were given the same car. Since our stuff was already loaded, they headed back inside to get a different car. We gave the paper to the guy at the exit. He said there was a mix up and called in and got it straightened out. Next day we returned the car to the Texas City location. The person at the desk took the keys and said a receipt would be emailed. She would not give us a real receipt indicating we turned in the car. Several days later, I got an emailed receipt for over $800 showing the car was returned 3 days late to San Angelo, Tx with a relocation fee and several other charges. I called immediately (from my vacation on a cruise ship) and after an hour on the phone, was told it would be resolved. At the end of the cruise, I returned to the Texas City location to pick up another car. I spoke with the manager about the problem and he was unable to assist because his access could not see the info needed. He gave me a number to call and told me to speak with a manager. I called the number and after over an hour, I spoke to a rep who did not want to let me speak to a manager. He eventually gave me a manager, who was not able to address the problem. He refused to allow me to speak to his supervisor. So now a week later, I am still out over $800 without a resolution and I've spent several hours of my vacation trying to straighten out Budgets mess. Everything was fine, until 2 weeks after I returned the car. First, I received a bill for $100 for a paintless dent repair and then I received a bill for $450 for cleaning smoke damage to the car (I don't smoke). I called on the pointless repair and they removed the charge. A few days later I called about the smoke damage charge and they reversed that charge too. So let's be fair. Renting a car is such a freaking hassle. It's a nightmare, and it's literally never my idea of a good time. While in Texas, if you need to get anywhere, one must drive. It's like a local law or something. I managed to go without but then I took a car to Dallas, and this is where I got my car. I'd say that most Budget/Avis rental car agencies are the same. I think I got a pretty decent deal. And even our reservation attendant was very polite and nice and helpful. Dallas is like 900 million degrees outside. They have rental car agencies offsite from the airport. Which is fine, but I was not 100% sure I could take a Lyft or Uber to the facility. So we went to the airport. ALL DESKS WERE CLOSED, so we took the shuttle bus there. We didn't have to wait long. But I wish there was clear signage or whatever to have outside folks dropping us off. I could not get an answer, and well, good luck calling and getting an actual live person. So our reservation agent was nice and she set us up with a car. I wanted something comfortable but midsized. She tried to upsell me, which is normal, but I didn't need anything too fancy. However, someone was in the car she assigned to us, which leads me to believe maybe there's some glitch in the system or maybe when she assigned the car to me it was at the same time someone else was. Whatever, in 900 million degree heat, it was not welcome especially with all the baggage I had. Thankfully they got me another car - ironically one of the types they tried to up sell me. I was worried the whole time, as I was dropping off at a different airport, that they might not accept it. They scan a QR code as you leave, and mine was expired or not valid. They let me go, and I didn't have issues dropping it off. I also understand not having a 24 hr operation, but it's kind of ridiculous because planes land all hours of the night. Maybe it's a casualty of the pandemic? Lastly rental car agencies are kind of an extension of hospitality. You have to deal with people who are mostly traveling. We are tired, anxious and cranky. While my agent was very nice, and there was a hiccup in my rental (which was dealt with swiftly), I can see why this place has low ratings. But I'd say mine is more 2.5 than 2 stars. read more

With all my travels, I like to stick to one company whether it be airlines, hotels or rental cars. I had been using Budget but their prices are comparable to the other big companies so I feel like I am not getting any extra benefits. Online it looks like major savings and at checkout they add major fees. I do like the Fastbreak program for the ease of just walking up and getting your vehicle without the lines and also getting to choose a vehicle. Most of the time I get a free upgrade. So not a terrible place. This location at the airport always seems to disappoint me. The people working there have no customer service skills. It is just straight business. I couldn't even kill them with kindness cause it went right over their heads. The vehicles always seem to be so dirty. They put a sign in the car saying how it went through rigorous cleaning but it definitely does not show inside or out. This last vehicle I rented had a panel hanging from the bottom and it made noise my entire long road trip. I should've done a better walk around. If you are getting dropped off, signage sucks and it is hard to know where to go or come in or out. Time to find another company to give my loyalty to, even if it costs more! read more

I reserved a car with Budget so that my son and I could travel for our three day weekend. I reserved a small SUV. When I first went to the Beltway 8, Humble location they gave a fully electric vehicle. I have no knowledge of this vehicle. I don't know how or where to plug it in at. I did not want this vehicle and the guy working this location to me I could check back with them tomorrow to see if they had anything else. The young lady told me the car was fully charged according to the paperwork I received. After getting in the car, I realized the car was only 48% charged. I took the first picture before leaving the location. I returned to the location first thing the next day only for the employee to tell me he didn't have anything else to give me. I called another location. I talked to someone at the location in Porter and she said she could give me something. I went to the Porter, Tx location and the lady gave me a toyota corolla. It was too small, it smelled, and it was dirty. So from the Porter location I went to the IAH airport to try and exchange the vehicle. The lady told me all they had was corollas. I decided to leave the vehicle at the airport location. My son and I had to wait outside in the wind until my husband arrived to pick us up. When I returned home I looked at the receipt and I am very disappointed with the all the charges on the receipt. After all my son and I did not get a chance to take our road trip, I only had the car less than 24 hours, and I was charged for fuel. This is total rip off and you all did not meet my needs. The offsite rental place was easy to get to - the shuttle came within a few minutes of waiting and once we got to the car rental area, the wait was quite minimal. They share an office with a couple of other rental places but the staff is quick and efficient. They are now sharing a location with Avis at 7714 Airport Blvd. I had low expectations coming here. But my expectations were slightly wrong. Service was friendly, but a little too friendly. As the lady checking people in gabbed on and on with each customer causing the line to back up. I was given the option of two vehicles but informed that one was more comfortable than the other, so I chose the more comfortable option. Upon arriving at the vehicle, I noticed that it looked filthy on the outside. It was late at night, so I just looked for damages before leaving. However, one of the workers did offer to drive it through the car wash for me. After it was washed, I honestly noticed little improvement. The next day, when the sun was up, I really had a chance to check out the vehicle. The outside was still dirty, it appeared that a sticky substance was sprayed on the vehicle and allowed to marinate. The interior was dirty as well. It was clear that no one cleaned the interior at all. White sticky residue on the seats (thank God for disinfecting wipes). Food and receipts between the seats. Garage remote on the visor. Choker necklace in the front passenger door pocket. Foot imprints on the interior front window on passenger side. I really think that someone just returned the vehicle and Budget just rented it right back out. I'll update this review after returning the vehicle. Side note: why aren't rental lots lit up with more bright lights? I have to use my phone's flashlight often to check for damages when picking up a rental. read more

I scheduled a car from 8/16-8/23, when I arrived, the did not have a car so they referred me to Vis, picked car up from Avis. 2 days has passed and I start receiving notifications that the car was late, to my surprise, Avis wrote up the car from 8/16-8/17, so I had a 120 late fee on my account cause I didn't return the car within a day. The actual staff at the office is cool but the Andrew at the reservation call center is the ABSOLUTE WORST. I've rented from their location before, it's not as organized as some airports and no one really guides pedestrian traffic. Fastbreak membership is a must! I will not book any other car rental. Always a good price and convenient. We flew into Houston for the first time and didn't know what to expect. I headed to baggage claim and saw the Budget Car Rental counter among the others. The line was indeed long, however, I am a Fastbreak member and the sign overhead said for those members to head directly to the bus outside. The bus took us to the car lot with our car waiting. The bus driver asked my last name and told us where the car was parked. We headed to that exact spot and boom, car keys and contract in the car. We packed up the car and headed towards the exit.(a whopping 5 minutes went by from the time I arrived to baggage claim, walked to the bus and was transferred to the lot!) showed my driver's license and contract that was in the car with my name on it and left. An experience that left me in awe! I have traveled to cities like Orlando, LAX that are similar and easy. Great job Budget! PS. What is a fastbreak member? Its free to sign up on budget's website. All you are doing is securing a credit card on file. This is where all cars will be billed to along with any miscellaneous you decide to add. Always book in advance and pay. So pick your car size, any additions you may need along with accept or decline liability coverage and your off. I have modified along the way and have canceled before so don't worry about paying in advance. You just have to commit to the car the day of so modify or cancel prior. read more

I am going through one heck of an ordeal after my rental and I have to say, I would not recommend this company to anyone after this experience. I received the vehicle with the smell of cigarette smoke and upon alerting management was basically told that it was in my mind and subjective until the male who was with me got out of the car and addressed it. Got on the road and on the way back we blew out a tire. We hadn't looked at the tread before leaving, but there were 4 different tires on the vehicle and two of them were dry rotting. I had to replace the two in the rear at my cost to even get home. The cost was more than the rental. I did call roadside assistance, but got caught in all kinds of loops to even get to a live person and then by that point I had already gotten ahold of the roadside assistance with my personal insurance. Budget's roadside assured me that I could do that and took down notes about the tires. Now I am getting the run around about reimbursement on the tires after being told that one department had to authorize and then another. Rent at your peril. read more

I rented the car on 4/24/2024 and returned it 4/25/2024. Four days after I arrived back in New York, I get an email stating that they are charging me $450 for a smoke smell the allege was in the car. I have not smoked a cigarette a day in my life and neither has my wife or 8 year old son. They send me pictures of some dust and with no proof that it was the car that I returned. I always used Budget when I rented a car in New York but will never use this company again. You drop the car off to them and have to trust that they do a fair inspection of the vehicle.
