Gave us some pointers about places to check out while in Portland. The shuttle took us to Budget and we were in and out with our rental within 10 minutes. Very smooth and seamless process. We flew into Portland and went to pick up our truck rental so we could drive to our hotel in Salem on a Friday. We stood in line at Budget rental for TWO HOURS with a reservation. The line wrapped around and was nearly out the door. NEVER AGAIN. We paid $900 for the inconvenience and terrible customer service. For what they charge you'd think they could hire a couple more people. If you can't stand for two solid hours and value your time do not give them your business. We certainly won't. read more

Booked through Costco Travel and added my Fastbreak membership number to bypass any line. I even checked in before picking up the vehicle and my credit card was authorized shortly thereafter. At my scheduled pick up time of 11:30pm I headed over to pick up my keys from Fastbreak counter in the garage. My keys were not there as they should have been, so I had to go back downstairs to the main counter where there was a long line. I got the attention of the Budget employee at the counter and asked him what to do since no employees were upstairs at Fastbreak counter. Employee rudely stated that the Fastbreak counter is "always closed at this time" and to wait in the back of the regular line even though my rental agreement was already done. After finally being helped I was given a copy of my rental agreement with a rate of approximately $60/day. After the car was returned 2 days later I was charged $572.84! I pulled up the rental agreement online and saw the rate was changed from $58.79/day to over $205.19/day. I called their customer service immediately after noticing this and was promised I would receive a credit in the next 3-5 business days. It is now almost 2 months later and I have had to file a dispute with my credit card and call them again wasting time on this which is ridiculous. Due to this experience I will never rent from Budget Rent a Car again. read more

This is as close as I can find to the Budget Rent A Car at the PDX Airport. If this one is different, blame the site... You can access the airport's rental car center via a short walk from the main terminal. You basically just descend via an escalator, take a couple of moving sidewalk segments, and ascend back up to the rental facility. Here they have 8 - 10 different rental counters. I had booked with Budget. They share agents and a desk with 3 other agencies but I did not have to wait long. The lady who helped me was quite good. She was efficient at processing the order, provided the info I needed, and asked some questions to try to give me the best-fit vehicle within the category in which I'd rented. She was also conversational (and funny) without seeming fake about it. I was able to quickly find my vehicle and there were no issues or surprises with it from that point. I need to stop renting from Budget. Spent 1 hour and 20 minutes in line. I was there alone with my kids. At one point an employee asked that only one person per reservation wait in the line. There wasn't enough seating, so my kids waited on the floor. The line just continued to grow eventually causing people to stand outside in the cold. Mind blowing this has been happening for years and Budget isn't addressing it. No accommodations for special needs. Sixt, Thrifty, National all had much shorter lines. read more

I hate giving 1 to no star reviews. This should be a minus one star. So I chose hotel at airport to be near turn in location to lessen hassle. Budget no longer has return at or next to airport. It is nearly hidden and very difficult to get to in daylight. Once you turn in your car, they will not drop you off at your hotel but will only take you to the airport and then you can get the hotel to come pick you up. It was maddening stopping at a traffic light en route to airport that is right at your hotel and they will not let you off. Then there is the filthy shuttle needing work (stained seats, duct tape over carpet edges, driver seat with pieces hanging off and oh yes, the a/c not working that the driver says she turned it in but they haven't fixed it). At least the hotel came and picked me up from the airport. Their shuttle was nice, clean with a friendly driver. Hours later, thinking through why the bill was so high on the milage, I realized they used kilometers instead of miles and they used the rate of .25 per mile. I generally dislike giving such bad reviews, but I honestly feel like some places just deserve it. The shuttle ride was PDX was probably the best part, but still not without fault. It was a pretty hot day in Portland (rising towards 90) and our driver understandably wanted to turn on the air. When he flipped the switch, it made a jarring buzzing noise to which he remarked "that doesn't sound good!" before turning it off and we all had a good little laugh. But really if you can't even maintain your own shuttle (probably one of the first impressions for PDX Budget customers), it's not a good sign. At the desk, we were able to be "helped" right away. Now, I understand it's part of the job to upsell for upgrades but phrasing it like "you've been upgraded to (insert model here)" is very deceiving. We originally said yes when she offered us a RAV4 cause it'd be a little roomier than the compact we reserved. Then she told us it'd be $50 more/day. After being clear that we weren't cool with that, (really, I better get something nicer than a RAV4 for an extra $50...a day!), she moves down the list to a "more reasonable" Nissan Altima for an extra $15/day. No means no? So we walk out with a Mazda3. I didn't mind because that's my car back home and a zoom zoom should be fun! On first look at our Mazda, it had 26k miles (no big deal) but looked like it had to abused like nothing else! Scratches littered the car like it had been driving through a permanent overhang of tree branches and dents on the hood and body were visible. Deeper scratches looked like they were poorly concealed by some off-gray putty (car was black). The car itself was also clearly not washed or detailed. Not expecting new car smell, but cup holders were filthy and we had trash inside from the previous occupants like water bottles, loose papers, and gummy bears. I get that when you buy through a third party, Budget will take even less of the cut but this was just a sad operation and not representative of other experiences I've had with Budget in the past. read more

Then we're told we're getting a mini van. Um no. Then we can get an F150. Um no. Decided to may $10 extra a day for another car. Wait and are told a car is coming and is "in the carwash". Fine. Go to the spot the woman told us to only to find a car not matching the description of what were were given. It's also very dark in the garage so you can barely see. Back to the service desk. Now a whole different car. Walk to that car, throw our stuff in and make our way to the exit. The marshal tells us that is not our car. Give him the paperwork and he starts making calls and walking around the car. He then oks us to go. Driving along, the sun hits the windows and I can barely see out of them they're so filthy (this thing got washed? By what? Dirt?). We get to our AirBnb.. get out only to find that the entire car is filthy, stained and incredibly gross. Greeeaaaaat... cuz we're going to a wedding and need to give the bride and groom a ride to the reception. The seats are filthy and stained and we have to put down our coats so they can sit in the car. Completely gross and embarrassing. Budget, you failed huge. A complete rip off from beginning to end. I honestly can't say how horrible this car rental experience was with some of the most horrendous customer service I've ever experienced. DO NOT rent from this company unless you want to take the risk of being stranded almost 20 hours with zero help like I was. Our brand new 2021 rental car broke down at 8pm on the highway, a few hours after picking it up. We called emergancy roadside assistance, but we had to wait on hold for an hour and 45 min until we got ahold of a support rep. They said they would send a tow truck to pick us up and take us back to the office to get a new car. We waited for hours and the truck never came. We called back into roadside assistance and were told there were no tow trucks available until tomorrow. The rental car company abandoned us on the side of the road. Our trip plan was to leave the city and drive for several hours to meet up with some friends, we had to cancel those plans. I called my own independent tow truck, which came within 30min of us calling it, to return the broken down car to them, since they would not offer a tow. We were in transit to the rental office, which closed at 1:00am, but they would not allow us to return it because their office that accepts broken down cars was not open. The rental office also refused to give us a new rental car, because they had not received the old one yet. Multiple support reps were not willing to help and it seemed like no one cared about the situation we were in. We were now stranded with a broken down car at 1:00am and were not able to get a new one, even though we went out of our way to return the broken down car by paying for our own tow service. Ultimately, they told us they could do nothing until the following day, and that the car was "our responsibility until it was returned" even though we had tried to return it. We now had to find a place to sleep for the night. They offered no help on finding a place to stay or a way to safely leave the car somewhere. The next day, we had to call into roadside support and start the whole process over again of requesting a tow. It took roughly 4 hours before the tow truck came to pick us up. Upon returning to the rental office, we had to wait in a line of over 30 people to get another car. Almost 24 hours had passed until we were able to get another rental car that worked. What was even more infuriating was that they said they couldn't offer any form of reimbursement since we had already paid for the rental in advance. I rarely write bad reviews, but this experience was so horrendous. I feel an obligation to let other potential customers know how worthless this company's customer service is and to avoid this company at all costs! read more

Just flew in to PDX, went to the Budget kiosks - kiosk closed. Ask man at stand where the budget pick up is and he says he HAS NO CLUE. Google it, drive there just to be told to go to the AVIS location BACK AT THE AIRPORT. Wait in line, almost got a ticket from a marshal, get agreement for PRE-PAID VEHICLE just to be told that it's at a different pick up location. This is a total poop show. My friend that we're visiting rented this truck and only just moved to Oregon recently so she hasn't received her actual ID yet and now they won't let us get the rental.l because her CA ID has a hole punched in it. We rented a Toyota Corolla 3/17-3/30/23. from PDX Budget. It had many deficiencies! Interior & exterior worn, the seatbelt bell sound would come on loudly & unexpectedly while driving & without reason. Finally, the car had a flat tire when we were ready to leave one morning. Budget put us on a phone nightmare merry go round. This could easily been solved within one hour but it took 1/2 a day of our vacation. The car was finally towed and we got a replacement car. This could have been accomplished easily without so many delays and communication errors by Budget. A real fiasco. Stressful! That car should never have been allowed amongst their available rentals. I rented a car from Budget PDX Portland. I had reserved a midsize car. After waiting in line for 1 hour and 15 minutes, they handed me the keys for some sort of weird Jeep/truck hybrid monster. I then had to go back to the counter and wait to get something similar to what I reserved. (Which they did have) I had rented the car for 5 days. I had to cut my trip short by 1 day, so they charged me $20 more for 4 days than it cost for 5. Calling customer service was useless. WTH Budget?! read more

I saw on the Budget lost and found site that a pair of glasses were found on the **same day and the same location** I returned. I submitted a claim noting I have a picture but the form does not enable attachment. Budget email responded - not found. I don't normally write reviews but I think my experience felt so violating and was a reflection of systemic issues that I feel obligated to share, both so that other customers don't make the same mistake and so maybe the company owners will read this and make improvements. I got in late Friday night into PDX. It's 10pm and I'm really tired and still need to make an hour and a half drive to Albany. I take the shuttle to Budget and I'm the only customer. There are two women working behind the counter. As we're going through the motions, she asks if I need to charge my phone. I said I might, and asked if the car had a usb. She said it does but it doesn't charge the phone. "That's strange" I said. She said that it will just drain the battery if I'm using gps and that I should buy the charger from them for $10 that goes in the lighter. I told her I don't need gps, and confirmed with her that it will still not charge. She repeated that it won't charge at all. I don't really know the car or care to press her since I don't really need to charge my phone. Then when we get to the part of insurance and stuff, she asks if I want to go with their option to fill up the tank. I said it's fine I'll fill it up at the station across the street (I come to Portland about every 2 months). She said their gas is $3.20 which is cheaper than the gas station and they only charge for how much they need to fill the tank. "Really?! That's such a deal? Normally you have to pay for the whole tank to get that price." She said it was a new thing they implemented this year. I told her I just rented from them in February and she said it was implemented after that. "Cool, sign me up" I said. I get in the car and decide to check the charger anyways. It starts charging..... I'm driving off and give them a call and let the girl know it's charging. She's like yeah but it's going to charge slowly. I'm like didn't you say it wasn't going to charge AT ALL. She said "No, no, no, that's not what I said. I said it's going to charge 1% every 30 minutes." Now I know she's lying to me so I take a screen shot. 12% at 9:47. I get in around 10:58 and it's at 55%. I realize.... wow. This woman really tried to swindle me for $10. Whatever. I'm driving back on Sunday to drop off the car and it occurs to me, I should probably verify the gas thing because it sounded too good to be true. I used half a tank. They hand me the receipt and it see a charge for gas of $42. For half a tank for a little Nissan at $3.20 per gallon??? I'm pressed for time but decide to go inside to chat with someone. Sure enough, that is not how the gas situation works. I was charged for a FULL tank at the low price. I explain what happened. The woman working there was kind enough to charge me what I would have expected. I never check receipts, and I know a lot of people don't. I only checked because I had a sketch feeling since I realized what happened with the charger. This must be happening to a lot of people. The reason why I'm posting is because I think what she did is really wrong. I'm not saying people shouldn't "up sell." That's definitely part of the job. But what she did was blatantly lie and try to cheat me out of some money to make her numbers look good. It's one thing to be not good at your job or not be good at customer service. But it's another thing to lie, cheat, or steal. Those sorts of transgressions are not mistakes, they are intentional, there is malice behind them, they should not be forgiven or tolerated. What makes this more concerning and the reason why I think this is systemic is because the other woman just sat there while I was being lied to. For anyone in management reading this, I think her name is Kelsey. She was working Friday night on 4/5/19. Some of the reviews on here are horrible! Please call Budgets main customer service to file a complaint. I think the employees are getting away with this bad service because corporate isn't aware of these issues. Report them! The location would not compensate me for wasting my time because they said I already had a coupon code applied from booking through Costco. So what I did was called corporate and they adjusted my final bill after I explained the situation to them. Do. Not. Go. Here. First of all, I wished I would have seen the reviews for this rental company before booking because I would have avoided this place like the plague if I knew. People aren't kidding. The employees don't offer very good customer service and it's a hassle that Budget is not a part of the airport. To read that others were scammed by this location makes me very upset. We landed by 830pm and didn't get our car rental until 10pm! Why? It took over an hour for the budget shuttle to come by. In that hour, we saw thrifty, Alamo, Ramada inn, other airport parking shuttles make their way around 5-6x. The lady had the nerve to tell me that it takes 30mins for a full trip. No, it should not and if it does, why is there only ONE person driving the shuttle?! So inefficient. The embarrassing thing for Budget was that since there were so many of us waiting to be picked up, the shuttle couldn't fit everyone. Some people got left behind waiting and the driver said she comes around every 20minutes. Many disgruntled passengers in the shuttle began correcting her and telling her they waited much longer than 20minutes. The passengers that got left behind ended up getting a ride from Thrifty over to the Budget location. There was only ONE person at the counter when all ~20 of us were in line waiting to be helped. NO ONE apologized for the delay either. No kind of remorse or concern. This is the first time I've had a very difficult experience with a car rental company. This was unacceptable.
