I booked mine through Alamo, and was told I was "very early, we don't have a car for you" (I was an hour and a half earlier than my scheduled pick up time, which I didn't think was ridiculously early). Anyway, Carlee hooked me up with a car right then and there, gave me a 5% discount and we were on our way! I even saved 50 bucks from my original reservation at Alamo. Beware of scam. As you can see in all the other posts, they will find a fee to charge you. Mine was $250 for a bit of mud on the exterior of the doors as well as a piece of grass on the floorboard. NO. Just move on. We paid for a "Luxury Vehicle". We were given a 6 year old Lincoln MKZ. We drove it home and the next day it wouldn't start. We tried to call the ROA location for several hours but they would immediately pick up and hang up each time. Never got through. We then called customer service...went to a call center in India and they hung up on us also. Called Roadside Assistance (Budget assistance) through their system. They came out, couldn't fix it and left. Tried calling this ROA office MULTIPLE TIMES AGAIN and since we couldn't get through to them, we had to have a friend take us back up to the airport to speak to them in person because they wouldn't answer the phone....and then it was our fault for for the effort and not knowing that we should've escalated the issue through Roadside Assistance. Basically, we were on own until we could successfully deliver the car back to them. Wtf. FYI, we had already tried to jump the car and the positive terminal cover was already off; sign of someone being there before. Also, I was a hood mechanic in my younger years. The oil level was low and looked burnt. The windshield fluid was very low. These are simple things that I expect to be good when I take possession of the vehicle. Upon further inspection, they put us on the road with Terrible Front Tires! ***see pics*** The tow truck driver hooking it up also said it was obvious that it had been recently towed. Long story short, just DO NOT!!! These people don't give two sh!ts about the quality or safety. Buyer beware, you have been warned. ***UPDATE*** Three weeks later...We just received a letter stating that they are trying to charge us $500 for towing their crap vehicle away! We had to call and explain the situation again to them. They are waiving the fee. Regardless...F**k this company. ***2nd Update*** Just got notified by my cc company that they actually DID try to push the charge through. Rented a car Thanksgiving day it broke down that evening since I made it to my destination I waited and called Friday for assistance. It over 2 1/2 hours to get a tow truck. I was in Winchester VA and they said to get another rental I would have to drive to Dulles Which round trip would be another 2 1/2 hours. I had flown in from Florida for 3 days I didn't want to spend over 5 hours on a car. I decided not to go to Dulles and pick up a car and ask the my rental be stopped that day. They said the only to do that was to drive the car back to Roanoke......the car won't run! So I've called several times to attempt a refund they say 1/2 off and 7 days free rental. Why would I want to rant again. Now today they turned me over to loss prevention since I never returned the car. And forget customer support you'll never get a person! They don't have Fastbreak, but this place is still very convenient. The efficient and handsome guy who checked me in to pick up the car did an excellent job of getting me my car while dealing with a woman with three different last names who appeared to be intoxicated and who wished to rent a premium vehicle. He provided excellent service to both of us and I'm glad I didn't have to wait until he finished with her because she had no idea what she was doing. Returning was just as easy...it took all of 30 seconds, although you have to record your own mileage. They don't have people in the lot with those receipt printers on their hips like they do at the bigger location. Cheap, friendly and efficient...what's not to love? I reserved and pre-paid a rental on December 21st for a December 24th trip to Roanoke, VA. Upon reviewing my rental information on my date of travel, I realized that my pick-up time was scheduled for 12:00pm and that I was not set to arrive until 10PM. I immediately contacted the customer service number to make the proper changes. When calling, the agent I spoke with stated that I did not need to worry as the counter was scheduled to be open until 11:30pm, long after my flight would land. When I arrived to Roanoke Airport, the counter was closed, despite calling ahead to alert the desk that my flight was late. Because of the early closure, I was forced to rent a car from Enterprise to ensure I could reach my destination, nearly two hours away. This was on Christmas Eve. On Christmas day, I left my family which I had traveled to visit so I could return the rental to Enterprise and retrieve my pre-paid rental from budget. I was then informed by an agent at the desk (who was absolutely wonderful) that his manager gave him permission to leave at 9pm the night before, an hour before my flight landed. He apologetically explained that because the rental was pre-paid, I would have to speak with agents from the customer service number. I attempted to call on the 25th but the contact center was closed (which I'm glad for, being Christmas and all.) When I spoke to a customer service agent on the 27th. He informed me that research would need to be conducted to ensure I "actually" called ahead. He also, rudely insinuated that I should have changed the rental information instead of "assuming" that customer service representatives could handle it. He stated that the research would take 3-days and we ended the call. 3-days later, on the 30th, I reached out to agents again regarding the ordeal. This time, I was asked to wait another 3-days for research. I can't expect to hear anything back until over a week after. read more

She then told me the only car available was $292. I said no, went online and booked a car for 98. When I went back to the counter she said to me "What, did you go book it online?" If I could give this company 0 stars I would. Budget claims to be 100% smoke-free fleet however when I picked up the car it smelled of cigarettes. No one was there at the pick up location to inform of the cigarette stench. The next day I found cigarette butts underneath the seats. When I called the customer service line to complain about this issue no one could help me. I asked multiple times to speak with a manager and they said there were none. I asked for the corporate number and they gave multiple disconnected numbers. I spent almost 2 hours trying to get in touch with someone that could help me and no one could. My advice: Think long and hard before you rent from Budget Car Rental What a nightmare. Here's our review of our lovely experience for the last 2 hours: We prepaid for a rental for our vacation, to be picked up in the city that we LIVE in. The ONLY Budget location within 50 miles is at the airport. Our bank was immediately debited $400 and we were sent the debit card policy. We met every part of the policy (over 25, good credit, etc) but did not have a "return flight ticket" because we live, work, and own a house in Roanoke - where the vehicle is located. We get there and the CSR refused to run our card as a credit card - although every other business does so. He gave us a "Customer Service" number that would put us on hold and then sound like an agent was picking up. The phone would then disconnect. We tried for over an hour to get an actual CSr on the phone. Dude at the airport wouldn't call his direct manager. We finally said we wanted to make a reservation (on the CSR line) and, lo and behold, someone comes to the phone. Nice guy. Connected us to his supervisor as requested. Not so nice a guy. Didn't want to give us to his supervisor but wanted me to call back the following day. Mind you, we are STILL waiting because we are supposed to leave for vacation in the morning. Supervisor admits that their "return ticket" requirement is so that people don't steal their cars. I explained, again, that we live, work, and own a house here. He says "I can't change the policy just for you". I asked, "so, if someone flies in from Timbuktu and has a debit card and another plane ticket out of the city, they can rent a car, but if I am based in this city and have a debit card, I can't?" "Correct". But this is the only location around. "Correct". But you'll see if you can find me a car in Lynchburg because they'll take my debit card and run it as credit. "Correct". We tried for almost 2 hours to resolve the issue. They wouldn't let my brother use his credit card to rent because he would have to pay extra for me to drive the car, and he would have to drive in to pick it up. They offered to rent to us from Avis (at the same counter), "but the rate will go up quite a bit". Of course it will. We ended up leaving without a rental... and a 3-5 business day wait for a refund. Not quite sure how we are traveling for vacation at this point. They sure didn't have a problem taking my $400 on a DEBIT CARD with the initial reservation. But unless I'm not from Roanoke, I'm SOL when it comes to getting a rental with them. Rude CSRs. Dismissive. Not helpful. Oh - and the 2nd person behind the desk said to his cohort (after an hour and a half) "I talked with Joe (local mgr, we assume) and he said NO." (Don't rent to them). Yet I heard him specifically say to another man "I'm going to do something I'm not supposed to do" and he sent the man's rental right on through. Completely disgusted with this company. Will NEVER use them. And will advise our large network of contacts against it as well. read more

My experience here was a bit confusing. I booked my car online and expected that after I landed I could walk to the counter and talk to someone. The problem was that when I landed the counter was dark and no one in sight. I'm glad I asked the guy sitting at the next counter for NATIONAL because he turned out to be the person also working for BUDGET. Once that got sorted out, getting my car was quick. The service was good. Returning the vehicle was quick and simple! Overall, a good experience! Tip: If the counter looks closed, ask whoever is avaialble at the other car rental counters. Budget/Avis car rental on Municiple Road in Roanoke Va is closed and has been for at least a year. Because you can't talk to a local person when you making reservations. People who took my reservations swore I could pick up my car up and leave it there. Apparently because the website dosen't show its closed they assume it's still open.I Iive in Roanoke and rented the car because my car was in the shop not that I am traveling and I do not want to go to the airport. I called the Roanoke Airport location Monday night to let them know we would not be back in town before the office closed and asked them what my options were. The man I talked to said what I needed to do was add another day. When I asked him what the charges would be he told me to look at my contract and that information was there. When I told him I picked the car up at 12:20pm and asked him if my 3 day rental rate I prepaid for would cover the extra time as long as I got it back before 12pm he at first said yeah it'll be fine before he went on to say... since you are buying another day. I told him I didn't want to buy another day unless I had too. He then said, well you just need to extend your rental for another day. This was a very disappointing customer service experience. Especially when I get to the airport today and the lady there tells me there is an afterhours drop box I could have used last night to avoid the extra fees I had to pay. We rented a van FIVE MONTHS in advance for a trip to a football game. We were called the night before to tell us that we might have to take 2 cars. We told them that wasn't possible because we had paid for 1 parking spot. They had five months to get a van there and didn't have one. They waited till the morning of to start calling people who were supposed to be returning vans that day to see if they would come in early. You have FIVE MONTHS to get a van from a national network of rental vehicles to your location and they waited to the morning of and STILL failed. I would not trust this business at all unless you want to be 2 hours late (and counting) like us. read more

We spoke to Manny, Lus, Alex, and Dan who kept transferring us to one another because they could not help us. They said that they don't have a manager. Beware of additional charges after you return your rental. I returned my rental on Apr 16, 2018. I was told computers were down and a receipt could not be provided to me. Two weeks later I get a charge for gas. They stated van wasn't returned with full tank of gas, which it was. Make them check your van out and in, even if computers are down. When you do pick up and drop off your car read all your paperwork very carefully. We requested a car over the phone directly from the people working here and were billed 3x the actual rate. When we called and asked about it, they basically laughed and said we should have read the contract more carefully. Since we signed (that was our mistake, we were exhausted and were not expecting fraud like this), they refused to fix the overcharge. The guy on the phone actually said that if they went along with Budget's official fees, they would go out of business (this is a franchise). He then admitted that they change fees as they see fit and would do nothing to fix the situation. So they admitted to bait and switch and outright theft.
