For the first session, we had a sub for the class and she seemed apprehensive on how to lead the class. The two hours consisted of us essentially having free time to paint and a few basic brush movements. The second class was then led by the main instructor who seemed more confident and taught us basic skills such as painting wet on wet, dry on dry, etc, however this should've been done the first week. Additionally, the supplies we were given were not great, most of the paints we were given were out of certain colors and we were given a small number of papers and had to request for more if needed, which felt unnecessary. After she went over these ideas, she let the class go on Pinterest and choose a painting they'd like to replicate. She would walk around and give positive praise, however, did not offer feedback or various ideas on how to improve the painting. I love the concept and idea of this class, however, I'm disappointed this felt more like a free paint time rather than an instructional class for paying almost $200.

"You can join waitlist" "And if i don't get in you would allow me to cancel the other?" "No. " Seriously? You would stick me to a camp i couldn't get him home for? Whatever ... Then we were less than impressed with an afternoon teacher. Both my son and cousins referred her as "mean" "What is mean" "Like if you missed a step and asked a question, she would snap "ask another student" I did contact art garage and what I didn't get was so much as an apology just "I'll talk to teacher" and "appreciate your feedback". And even an excuse around the line of "self reliance" No being yelled at by a teacher to talk to ask other students makes people feel belittled and stupider than their classmates. Obviously not qualified to work with kids. This was the only bad camp experience this year. Though they did appreciate my feedback - so I'll assume they will appreciate this review.

There's free parking in front of the center building. The restrooms were clean and the staff friendly. Printed trail maps and flyers for bird field guides and monthly calendar activities were available at the center. The trail was sandy and had educational signs posted at certain points explaining what to see such as the wetland, birds, flowers, and Prairie dogs, etc. There were rest areas with wooden seats along the trails. I went when it had recently rained so there were areas that were muddy and buggy. I think going early morning or late afternoon would be more enjoyable. The center advertises as a hands on experience in nature for a school trip or group.

Caucasian coaches are allowed to not follow Gold Crown rules and when shown video evidence of these disparities, their Sports Program Director, Mark Rusch, decides to "not allow" me to continue to volunteer as coach instead of addressing the disparities. My initial interaction with Mr. Rusch, following another instance of disparate treatment, was marked by his unprofessional demeanor. He addressed me in a condescending manner, wagging his finger in my face and lecturing me about service while having zero clue about my commitment to serving my community(the fact that I was already volunteering my time wasn't enough). All the while, as I was being talked to like a toddler, I addressed him in a professional manner, addressing him as sir and responding to his questions with "yes sir." Their executive director and his brother(also employed by gold crown) coach teams and allow their children to play dirty. The refs overlook their players but give the opposing teams technical fouls for defending themselves after being body checked twice. Referees are advised to pay increased attention to minority coaches due to the perception that we're more inclined to be a problem. This non-profit organization, which compensates its director over $200,000 annually, as revealed in their most recent tax filings, has a history of racial discrimination that they attempt to conceal and dismiss. Upon reviewing their website, it is evident that Gold Crown's decision-making staff lacks minority representation. This absence, particularly in a sport with the highest minority participation in the state, serves as compelling evidence suggesting that Gold Crown does not take diversity seriously and lacks the ability to have at least one impartial and representative voice on their team.

The staff is pleasant and the volunteers are informative. We had a lovely walk. I like the rubber-like surface that has been added to the walkway. They are always improving. We saw many animals out enjoying the early morning breeze before the heat of the day. By the time we got back to our vehicle it was getting quite warm. Always a great experience.

We brought our young kids here on Saturday and had a wonderful experience. We got there at 9 am…read more(right when they opened the doors) and while it was very windy on the walkway, it was a relief against the blazing sun. Many of the animals were active until around 10:30/11 when the temperature warmed up. Right out of the welcome center, we saw 2 of their jaguars (which we were told are usually pretty elusive), some foxes, bobcats, bears, and to our happy surprise, a cheetah. It came out of the shade in the back of its habitat and approached the fence close to the walkway because an employee was driving by. It sat there for awhile until the employee drove off, so we were able to get lots of pictures. My son LOVES cheetahs, so this was definitely a highlight for us. Of course, when we mentioned it to not 1, but 2 employees/volunteers, they both said that that sanctuary location doesn't have any cheetahs. I showed them the pictures and they stated that it was a leopard. While they certainly do have a leopard (which we also saw), this was indeed a cheetah. So, my 1 suggestion to the sanctuary is to educate the staff on the animals there. Aside from that, we also saw wolves, lions, tigers, and camels. Be prepared to walk the 3 miles round trip. Bring lots of water and snacks (they have bathrooms and shaded rest stops along the way). Bring binoculars (or rent theirs for $10 like we did)--the sanctuary is expansive, far beyond what's next to the walkway. And take your time! We told our littles that the animals were playing hide and seek. It is a worthwhile experience!
