I know that the Animal Shelter is severely underfunded, and the building really needs some updates. But the people that work there are very kind to us and most importantly the animals. Yesterday was the second time we have adopted from them. Our first one was the best dog you could ever ask for. We had her from age 1-15. We adopted our second yesterday, and I have the feeling it's going to be another great match! The reality is the shelter needs help, but they seem to do the best with what they have. And they don't "double dip" like some other places do. For example, if the intake pet has already had their rabies shot, they don't give them another. That keeps costs down. And hey, these babies need homes.

I've been on a hunt for a new kitten after my cat passed away in March. I was notified on pet finder that there was a kitten that was being fostered by a family through this organization. I adopted Poppy (formerly Alice) on 5/29. She's a calico kitten a good little girl. She was taken great care of before I got her. I definitely reckoned checking them out of you want to get a new pet.

So happy to give Cooper a forever home

We recently adopted a pit puppy and would recommend this shelter to anybody! The volunteers are all great and welcoming, you can tell they all just have a love for animals and enjoy what they are doing. Anybody that walked by us asked if we needed help with anything and were very helpful with tips and suggestions. We went to the shelter "just to look" but deep down knew we wouldn't be leaving without a dog. The supervisor recognized that we were not exactly prepared and gave us some time to get the house puppy proofed and buy what we needed before taking him home. He sent us home with some treats, a bag of food, a leash, and even some toys. He gave us lots of good tips, advice, and contacts for future needs. Our pup was found to be a little under the weather when we took him to get neutered and the shelter even picks up the cost of the medication. Go today and give an animal a forever home

Thank you for letting me adopt this little bundle of joy!

Recently I had the amazing opportunity to adopt a dog from the Buffalo Animal Shelter. I really can't say enough about my experience. I really like how they post dogs available to adopt on social media, so go follow their Facebook page & Instagram page! I say this because, if it wasn't for Facebook I would have never found little miss Penny. Once I saw her story I knew I just HAD to adopt her. I reached out via email like the post said to do, I was really surprised how quickly I got a response, which was amazing! I can really tell the volunteers and the foster homes really care deeply for these animals. The process was easy, I quickly submitted my application and waited patiently, less than 24 hours later they were diligent and fast to run my application through the process they had, I was approved! The nice part was I already had a little dog, so it was important both dogs got along. The foster mom that was caring for Penny until she was adopted completely understood everything. She set up a meet and greet for my dogs. It was a great opportunity for my dogs to meet and decide if this was the best fit for everyone. I loved how there was no pressure, no rush, it was all about the animals and what was best. We of course fell in love with Penny, and everything worked out perfectly. To adopt her it was very organized, there was a folder ready with all the vet reports, any information they had, even a detailed care sheet for what the foster mom found. Simply amazing! They even provided me with tons of food, penny is on a special diet. They even asked if I needed a leash or a bowl, anything. I was prepared for Penny's arrival, but how thoughtful! This shelter goes above and beyond, I simply can't say enough. The support is there, even after the adoption, I know they are there for me. GO RESCUE AND ADOPT, it's an amazing rewarding experience!

I had to put down my elderly cat. It only cost $20 and the staff was incredibly kind.

Found inside of the super-gorgeous Market Arcade, Buffalo Barkery is a pretty sweet pet boutique that offers a variety of treats and toys for dogs, cats, and owners alike! The shelves are stocked with all sorts of goodies to spoil your pet with, as well as some human-friendly gifts that are perfect for pet lovers. I loved all the accessories they had here, like bandanas, bow-ties, and collar/leash sets. They even had cute Halloween items since the holiday is coming up. I was so tempted to bring home things my dog really didn't need. Buffalo Barkery is basically a bakery as well - they make and sell their own dog treats, with flavors inspired by local faves like Beef on Weck and Chicken Wing, as well as Pumpkin and Buffalo Chip. They also do custom orders, and I hear they make a mean doggy birthday cake! I love the business model they stand behind - the owners started making their own dog treats, tired of unnecessary preservatives and by-products often found in name brand treats. "To us, dogs aren't just pets, they are family." Absolutely! I ended up bringing Rosie home a couple of cute cookies, as well as some Vegan Ear Wash. I am very eager to return to this lovely shop, and I think I'll have to bring my pup with me next time.

My friend and I stumbled upon this fantastic cat adoption centre in the otherwise dead mall that is Niagara Centre. In the front area, they stock odds and ends (water bottles, t-shirts, etc) to raise proceeds for their efforts. The back of the store is the really impressive part; it's divided by a floor-to-ceiling chain link fence with a gate, and they have dozens of cats wandering free. The area is the size of a large living room, and it's filled with all sort of furniture for the cats to climb/sleep on, as well as toys. There's an area in the very back marked "employees only" where the cats are free to retreat to if they need the litter box, food, or just a quiet place to hide. The employees are happy to let anyone in with the cats to visit, and you're free to pet or play with them, or just let them come to you. It's a great setup, almost like a cat cafe, where you can get to know your future pet on their home turf. No cages, so the cats aren't stressed out. One cat in particular approached us for attention, and we happily petted her and fed her some treats while she purred non-stop. The other cats casually strolled around or slept, not bothered by us in the slightest. I only wish I lived nearby, because I'd love to visit all the time. It's probably for the best, since I'd want to take all of the cats home.

Currently, you do not need an appointment to adopt a cat, except on Saturdays. The shelter this week also has a pony and a water turtle, and other non-canine or feline species. This a very clean and well appointed shelter. Care and concern for their charges is obvious for all the staff and volunteers I met. There is also a gift shop in the Adoption Center. From the start, Chimbuka kept us fully informed throughout the process. They sent us regular updates, photos, and videos of the kittens as they grew, which helped us feel connected and excited while we waited. We were even welcomed to visit the kittens in person before bringing them home -- something that meant a lot to us. Both kittens were healthy, playful, and well-socialized from day one. They adjusted quickly to our home and are still the most affectionate, curious little characters. It's clear they were raised in a loving, cage-free environment. Communication was always clear and thoughtful, and we appreciated Chimbuka's fair and compassionate approach to pricing -- they charge based on what clients can afford, which is rare and deeply appreciated. Chimbuka is registered with TICA, CCA, and CFA, which gave us extra peace of mind. While there weren't many reviews online when we first found them, our experience has been absolutely wonderful. If you're looking for loving, well-adjusted Devon Rex kittens raised with care, integrity, and genuine passion, we highly recommend Chimbuka. Mac and Tosh have brought endless joy to our lives. They asked how many cats we have (understandable question), I replied the two brothers. My son has one (unrelated from the brothers) and will be moving out this summer. The older volunteer staff then stated, "well maybe you should wait and see what happens" with her attitude... What does that mean!? Who the hell are they to tell me what's best for my family! So we left with a disappointed wife. One thing is for sure, they did not like me asking questions about any treatments, diseases or medical conditions on record. The living conditions is subpar. It is filthy, smells horrible and I would question if there are too many animals inside that small building.
