The event was the Ben Johnson Memorial Cowboy Classic. The country club is one of the oldest and by far, the friendliest I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The staff was on point, professional and always accomodating. They served us a 3-course dinner with grace and lots of charm! the food was very good. We had a petite filet topped with lump crabmeat and a bearnaise sauce on the side with perfectly grilled asparagus and roasted fingerling potatoes. The best part? The homemade vanilla topped with your choice of fudge or butterscoth syrup. The butterscotch was heavenly (Jocelyn, our server, even gave me a second spoonful!) Parking was easy and valet service is available of course. My advice? Pinky out!

I thought the tournament was organized very well. It was easy to find open seats, and the workers did a good job of managing the crowds. The food options were okay, they sold out of some stuff by the afternoon. I settled for a hamburger since I think they ran out of some BBQ items. Decent amount of little shops to visit, but nothing worth buying in my opinion. Cute photo ops and decor. Felt like a little tennis village. Overall, it was really cool to see professional tennis up close for free. The grounds are kept clean and the country club definitely gives off a luxurious vibe!

I was still impressed with the quality and beauty of the setting. The parking was easy, the staff was harried but friendly. The amenities arranged for the party were beyond impressive. The food was well presented and very tasty. The environment was comfortable, even with a crowd that easily numbered in the hundreds. I didn't have a chance to play golf but from what I saw, the course is beautiful and challenging. If I was looking for a high quality event space, or an impressive corporate perk, I would put this place on my short list.

Braeburn is a private country club setup for the enjoyment of it's members. Once located in a very affluent neighborhood isolated from the city traffic with Demerit as the club pro, now engulfed by the Sharpstown and Braes-wood ward like drift wood structures. The course it's self is very nice, but unless guided by a member or caddy it's a very confusing course to the eye. Lots of water, left to right, right to left. Long forced carry, terrain that can take away your stance if you make the mistake of getting used to the comfortable layup shot. The greens are firm and rolls true, not fast, but plenty dangerous with the movement of the carefully designed slopes. To have a course that's this established with no course guide is a shame. Braeburn Country Club is all about history, golf royalty and exclusivity. But the slum like apartments surrounding the course brings a sting of reality of a place time past by. Once upon a time, this might have been the pinnacle of Houston golf, now it is just a stain in history that refuses to acknowledge the change of time. My guess is as the older members disappear, this course will fade away in to history, like all the black and white pictures adorn it's dinning halls.

My grandfather on my father's side was greens keeper. My grandmother on my mother's side was book keeper. My mother then worked as a waitress. My aunt on my mother's side was bartender. My grandmother on my father's side was ladies golf pro. My aunt on my father's side was tennis pro. I remember this place as magical. The big park in between my house and the club house was filled with huge pine trees which led to the biggest pool ever. I loved the high dive. We had many years of Easter egg hunts in that park and I swang from the tall swings every day. I loved Monday's because the course was closed and my mom and dad would take me on buggy rides by all of the ponds throughout the course. I incubated ducks and we had baby ducks every year. I remember the soft shell turtles, the alligators and the gar & jumping fish that swam in the bayou. The Spanish moss that hung from all of the trees. Once I thought I could drive a golf cart and got stuck on the rocks by the parking lot... I was 5. I remember jr. golf clinics and tennis camp during the summer. When I was 13 I stocked balls in the pro shop with my dad. I remember Georgia who made me breakfast in the mornings at the snack bar. The smell of cigars in the bar with the big tv playing the US open. The ladies locker room was wicker furniture and the colors peach and cream. Stealing cherries and olives out of the cocktail bar condiments. Chocolate milkshakes and lemonade iced tea.... Making chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen. When I found out this beautiful memory was gone my heart broke. Had I known they had an auction I would I have bought it all. Every image of every pro that adorned the round seating area on the brick wall inside the clubhouse... every trophy. Everything I would have held dear in my heart I now have only my memories... I went back about 5 years ago and hopped the fence face full of tears sobbing as I saw my former home in ruins... nothing to have as a memory. I sat on the steps of what once was the driveway of the clubhouse and cried till I couldn't breathe. As I walked back to my car... I saw a golf ball and now that's all I have left of what was once the place my parents married.. my family memories and my childhood. This might have been a golf course to you all but it was everything to me. I still dream of it in my sleep. I am Tara Dill. My father is Johnny Dill. My grandfather is Bill Dill.
