Such a cool spot! If you can get a chair that overlooks Main Street, it's perfect for people watching. Husband and I spent a good couple of hours up there chatting with some locals. We were staying in Deadwood on a motorcycle trip. This place was just up the road from our hotel. Food was amazing! Steak was so tender and seasoned wonderfully. I got the mashed potatoes and gravy and sside salad. The potatoes and gravy were so yummy! It reminreminded me of the deliscious mashed potatoes ans gravy i would get as a kid in the school cafeteria. This place was recommended by local we met and honestly it's one of the better places we ate at while in Deadwood. Not only was the food good but the service was outstanding!!!! We had a prime rib dip and a open faced hot beef sandwich with beef gravy. Both were loaded with tender shredded beef and were very tasty. We also had the chicken strips with a baked potato and you know for a baked potato it was quite delicious. It was rubbed down lightly with oil and salt on the outside making it extra tasty. I can't think of a worse dinner than we experienced at Buffalo Bodega Bar. I thought about giving them 2 stars because the waitress was ok and I didn't get food poisoning, but that wouldn't be fair to all of the rest of the restaurants I've eaten at. Do NOT get the crawfish! They are fun to take pictures of, but as soon as they showed up on the table, so did a multitude of flies. From that time on, everyone at the table had to wave one hand over their food constantly while they ate. As soon as you stopped, you'd have a whole family of them sharing your meal. We sent them back after trying just a couple, but there was enough oozing off of them that the flies wanted to stick around for the rest of the meal. The roast was decent. I think I would have liked it if I was eating indoors. The potatoes were nasty -- definitely instant. A lot of potential. Great place for just a drink. read more

Three large hand made and breaded chicken tenders, I paid 3 dollars extra for some onion rings, the onion rings where big and it came with 8 large rings. The onion rings where fried to perfection. The meal also came with a nice sized side salad and corn and a roll with butter. The food is pricey, but the quality and serving sizes are fantastic! What a great little place right in the heart of deadwood!! Daily entertainment a charming wood deck for outside during the summer and a full bar and casino inside. Again when traveling to the northern great plains cattle or buffalo is a must. For starters we had the rocky mountain oysters they were fried to perfection and there was no gamey taste that you normally get with other parts of the bull and the flavor was quite mild. For entree I had the ribeye cooked perfectly and you always get a great cut of meat in this part of the country. It was, however, the only place I could see that had outdoor seating, and since I had the dog (and hadn't yet learned that Saloon No 10 allows dogs INSIDE!!!) I stopped in for lunch. Also, I will say that the service was really friendly -- I got hooked up with a drink right away, and once they realized I also wanted food, they immediately sent someone over from the restaurant to take my order even though I'd apparently wandered into the bar part of the place. They even brought over some water for the pup, which is always appreciated. I started by trying some rocky mountain "oysters" -- which, despite what they're made of, weren't very interesting in a good or bad way. Just some deep fried strips of meat with marinara sauce. The buffalo burger was okay, though quite dry, and came with a sort of potato salad with bacon in it that was actually pretty good. Terrible experience! Initially the service was good, but it went downhill after ordering. Ordered Deadwood Dip and Chicken Fried Steak and ice teas. Drinks were never refilled and we waited 1 hour for the meal. They weren't extremely busy. Two tables that sat after us by about 15-30 minutes were served before us. Waitress came by and said our meals were up and she would bring our meals, but she proceeded to jump to other tables. We had our meals for 5 minutes and asked for to-go boxes. Well...first off...this place is handicap accessible so automatically it gets a good mark with us. So few places in deadwood are wheelchair accessible. We were able to get seated right away. They have it to where the restaurant becomes an indoor/ outdoor restaurant. Love that. The food is good. Not great but good. The rib eye was juicy and cooked just as I asked. Needed just a little more seasoning but pretty good. The fettuccine with chicken was not that good. The pasta used for fettuccine was cork screw and not the usual noodles. I remember the Bodega when I was a student at Black Hills State University... I used to love coming here to dance, drink, and enjoy all that Deadwood had to offer... After a short hiatus, I am happy to see it is back to its glorious shenanigans. However, I would strongly advise against going here during New Years Eve. The service was awful and I was shocked to see that management hadn't added an adequate amount of staff to meet the obvious and predictable demand. Two thumbs WAY down on that oversight. Meh, service and food were disappointing. Kids who are 13 and 11 were brought kiddie cups of soda and chocolate milk. They charged extra for refills on the kiddie cup of chocolate milk, 3 of them which was probably equivalent to a pint cost 5.67! The gal who rang me up was nice enough to adjust the price a bit. Neighboring tables side salads were really small bowls of iceberg lettuce, looked like the dressing came in packets. My yearly SD trip was again made wonderful by the Bodega & Yancey de Veer! I stayed in Deadwood for 7 days, saw Yancey at the Bodega every day as I always do! He did not disappoint & made my stay so very enjoyable! The food was excellent & the service was wonderful! Gretchen, my waitress was awesome! What a waste of time it was to eat here - or at least attempt to. We were in town from MN for the week and decided to stop in Deadwood for some sites, souvenirs, and suds/grub and decided to stop here because it looked good, but as you know looks can be deceiving. We got to our table around 5:10 and placed our order at 5:22 (I know that because the EXTREMELY SLIMY SNAKE OIL SALESMAN MANAGER LADY TOLD US -I'll explain later) and waited..... And waited...... And waited....... (you see where this is going??). It wasn't until around 6:05 that our server (who in the beginning was very friendly and helpful) came over and told us there was a "glitch" in the ticket system and our order was never actually ordered, but she assured us it would ONLY be another 5-10 minutes more. REALLY? WTF?? Our parking meter was to run out at 6:15 and we didn't figure it would take more than an hour to eat. (Mind you my wife is a bartender at a very busy bar in Minneapolis and knows how to treat customers and she said the wait should have been addressed LONG AGO to give us some idea of what is going on, but it wasn't until now that we hear about this). Not to mention the whole time we are sitting with empty glasses around the table (we had our two kids with us) sitting on our thumbs wondering what to do. We couldn't figure out the dilemma considering it didn't seem that busy and the staff seemed plentiful. When the server said 10 more minutes I said nope, we will settle up for what we drank and we would leave and find some other place to eat. At that point she left the the manager came back. Oh this is where it gets good. The manager lady (seemingly her first time managing ANYTHING) came over and said (word for f###ing word), "sorry, I see the ticket says 5:22 for your order, but there was a glitch in the system and your food wasn't ordered correctly, but don't worry, I'll take care of your food, you just pay for your drinks". I'm thinking that's a standup proposition and a nice (but definitely appropriate) gesture. I said thank you, but out meter will expire soon. She said no worries, it's only a $5 ticket and that she would pay if we actually got one. I thought ok, cool, we will stay. Now we get our food around 6:25 and start eating vigorously (remember we've got hungry kids and we are trying to avoid a ticket, even though the snake oil salesman says she'll pay it). We are half way done and ask for our tab (to expedite the rest of this already drawn-out process of eating out), and much to our surprise the food (that we were told would be taken off) was on the bill. Oh but there was a $5 discount. We told the server that snake oil salesman manager lady was going to comp the meal since it was well over an hour since we got there. She said she would talk to her and come back. The manager gets over to our table in a hurry (first time ANYONE hurried the whole time we were there) and starts laughing and says, "I told you I would comp your food if you left, not if you stayed. I already took $5 off (BIG F'ING DEAL) for your meter". I honesty didn't know what to say, I was dumbfounded. Was she really that naive to think we would pay if we left without eating??? Did she really think she was doing is a favor my taking $5 off?? I think her excessive use of Aquanet hairspray had gotten to her little head because this was the most unprofessional remedy to an already exhausting situation I've EVER dealt with. It is now after 6:45 and as much as we wanted to stiff the server (she did drop the ball by not conveying the problems with tickets earlier) we tipped her only 10% (we usually top 20-25%) and said it was due to her manager (or lack there of) that her tip wasn't bigger. Suffice it to say, we have many friend going out to Sturgis and they will undoubtedly frequent Deadwood while in the area. We have already warned them (and everyone else we know vacationing in SD) of our POOR experience here. read more

Avoid at all cost. Hello again. I knew it was going to happen and here it is. AVOID AT ALL COST. This review only deals with the restaurant part of this establishment. I had a burger that was fair at best. Their mashed potatoes have a taste I can not discribe as I told my waitress who could have cared less. She offered to sub in fries, but by the time she got there we were close to done. I was charged two dollars to sub mashed for fries and did not get an offer to credit that back. Penny (my wife) had a mushroom burger that was left half uneaten due to taste and she also had the mashed taters and agreed they were awful. This trip my grandson Caden was along and he had the chicken alfredo with a cheese stix(that's right, one cheese stix). The alfredo, again was poor. It would be my best recommend to avoid this establishment when you are in the area. There are many other places to try and I would suggest Dairy Queen over this restaurant. Let me just say this. If you can not make a burger and mashed potatoes satisfactory you might either want to get a new chef or maybe change to something else, maybe just another bar and stop trying to serve food. Walking in, I was caught off guard because I was expecting something a little more put together and formal. I thought it was going to be more of a steak house atmosphere, and not a biker bar. However, the onion ring appetizers were good and the whiskey steak was good cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor. The waitress was very attentive and had a friendly attitude. Oddly enough, we got there for dinner around 8:30 and we were part of the early crowd. Over the course of our meal more and more people were coming in. We were ripped off tonight in the Buffalo Restaurant & Lounge on Main Street in Deadwood (that's the name on the credit card receipt of this restaurant at 658 Main St. in Deadwood, SD). My son and I both ordered the 8 oz Angus Steak with whisky sauce for $17.99. We talked about 8 oz being more than we thought we could eat and said we'd bring home what we couldn't eat. They served us steaks that were about 4 oz., about half of the advertised size. I know they were 4 oz. because we regularly buy 5 oz filet mignon steaks from Omaha Steaks, and these steaks on our plates were smaller. My son's steak was smaller than mine. We told our waitress we felt ripped off and she spoke to the chef who said the steaks had been cooked so long that they had shrunk. Not possible - my son ordered his steak medium rare. They gave us a 10% discount, but I felt that was inadequate. Buyer beware. This restaurant is dishonest. read more

I was there in July 2013. Seemed like a busy place and after the staff at another restaurant had no interest in customers, we thought we would try Buffalo Bodega. We waited close to an hour for our food to come out. When it did, the bison burger was terrible. I guess if you're going to find a pre-made, frozen bison burger, the most likely place is out West. The Stockade is an amazing place to enjoy outdoor music. The entertainment is great and it will be Deadwood's loss when Yancey de Veer is ready to stop playing. We were disappointed to see that the Stockade menu has been cut way back. There are only a few sandwiches now and you can't order off the restaurant menu any more, even if you "know someone".
