Came here looking to purchase gifts. We did various tastings and absolute love the product. The cream whiskeys were so good it was hard to narrow it down. Fun place to stop in while walking deadwood. They offer $5 tasting from their full line of whiskeys named after famous Deadwood residents and moonshines. Or you might be able to get a single sample for free. The "dead" series of whiskeys are each a different flavor and labeled with a famous resident. You can buy the full set or grab just a bottle as they make a great souvenir. I only wish that our preferred deadwood celeb, potato creek Johnny, was in a different flavor of whiskey. They offer a wide range of moonshines as well. In terms of whiskey options in town, this one is maybe a bit more touristy but way funner and more customer service oriented than the one across the road. read more

Also known as Deadwood Pizza Factory- one of the better pizzas in the Black Hills ..adjacent to the distillery. The outer crust is reminiscent of Lucali in Brooklyn, generally regarded as one of the best pizzerias in New York. The dough is made fresh and rolled out then baked in a wood-fired oven, causing the outer edge to puff and separate. The pizza was very good, the center was a bit wet but overall it was a unique and delicious product. An excellent value at $29 for an 18 inch. 8/10 read more

Another stop to be had in the little tourist town. I will fully admit, not exactly what I was expecting when checking out a distillery, but not necessarily that it was disappointing in some way. There are sort of like two sides in the distillery. One side has whiskey, the other side has moonshine. If you are looking for other spirits, they are either in very limited supply or do not exist at all. You are allowed a tasting of one free shot on both sides, or you can buy a $5 tasting to try 3 shots. There didn't seem to be a cocktail room or anything like that to sling up to a bar and have a beverage. The whiskey side had straight shots and also whiskey creams. I was not terribly impressed with the creams, they were all just a bit too sweet for my liking. I enjoyed the watermelon moonshine that I tried. Staff are no-nonsense and a bit rugged, but will definitely share their opinion and knowledge of their stock. read more

They have a large selection of moonshines and flavored whiskeys to try. The flavors were fun! I enjoyed and bought the Cinnamon Whiskey which tasted a lot like a red hot candy. The Peanut Butter Whiskey was delicious as well. The staff was very friendly. It was pretty busy when I went and the staff did a great job of giving out samples in an orderly fashion and making sure to explain what each whiskey and moonshine were and what was used to make it. read more

stopped by here for some whisky tasting. they offers some daily free whisky that you can take a shot for free. we didnt like the flavored whisky so we paid $5 to taste four of other premium whisky. the price is great for four shots. and there are other counters for moonshine and other liquors in the same shop. read more

The Free Moonshine tasting got us through the doors of Deadwood Distillery in South Dakota. Shop was looking good with all the bottles of merchandise and other merchandise. There was a lot of Moonshine merchandise available. Personally, I did not do the moonshine tasting. Which I regret now. Our friends enjoyed the both the Peanut Butter Whiskey and the Apple flavor Whiskey. They also bought a couple of bottles for home. Prices seemed reasonable. I'd recommend stopping at Deadwood Distillery if you find yourself in Deadwood, South Dakota. Nice experience. read more

This is a bar with some food and moonshine. We were there in the afternoon so the place was dead. I didn't go in next door so I can't help you with that.They have some good pizza and my wife and kid liked the moonshine. At least I think my son liked it because when I asked him he just smiled and nodded. We enjoyed the quirky and funny bartender / waitress, but hated the flies. She added some local flavor, but close the door or hand out fly swatters. Stop by if your looking for slice of pizza and an adult beverage. read more

Had a wonderful experience at this distillery. If you go in ask for Tracy. She was a wonderful hostess. I learned about whisky & moonshine. I never tried either. You get a free taste of either one. Then you can try four more for $5. I tried the honey whisky 1st. The. I had four moonshine (apple pie, blackberry, watermelon, & butterscotch). All tasted great. But I like the apple pie & blackberry the most. The shop was cute and very well organized. I will visit here again. I think this is a wonderful experience if you're new in town. read more

There were stains on the walls of the stall in the men's room. People have fought for their lives on these porcelain thrones and lost the battle. The swinging doors are neat, but apparently the women's doesn't have a latch to lock them. Also, the toilets flush pretty slowly and the fear of a clogged toilet flooded (pun intended) my entire body. Bathroom experience: 3.5/10 All in all, the distillery itself is very nice for such a tourist-dependent Midwest town. They have some nice whiskeys (the Calamity Jane peanut butter whiskey being my personal favorite). Actual experience: 6.5-7/10. read more

This was probably my favorite stop in Deadwood. This distillery makes their own moonshine. The front of the shop makes you feel as if you are walking into a barn. There are 2 stations available for sampling their many moonshine varieties. The cafe and apple pie were winners in my book so we picked up a jar of the cafe. Went in on a quiet Monday afternoon. Several empty tables, one covered in plates, another dirty so I wiped it off with a napkin and we sat down. Waited about ten minutes, nobody said hello or acknowledged us at all, even though a server brought out to the table next to us. Went to the bar and requested menus. Waited several more minutes and finally we went to the bar again to ask if we needed to order at the bar? Guy said nope, wait at your table. Another ten minutes rolls by. We got up and left. Came by on my last day in deadwood. I was walking around and had a serious craving for some pizza. Glad I came in to this place due to that craving. According to one of the bar tenders this place had only been open a few months. Well I hope that they continue open for years because their service was awesome. Firstly, this place had pizza. They sold by the slice and by the pie. Since I don't need a whole pizza I settled for two slices of pepperoni. The pizza was hot, delicious and a bit greasy (just the right amount) and it certainly hit the spot. I had a firehouse beer (seems to be a local craft brew) which was rather good. Place has a pool table and plenty of space to drink. Also has a large store attached. Seems they make their own moonshine which comes in a variety of flavors...which you can buy from them. The bar tender....didn't get his name....was great. He allowed me to sample a beer before I ordered it. He said he does that so his customers are happy and satisfied....that's definitely admirable. He was also hilarious with his jokes and teasing...and constantly made sure that I was enjoying my meal and that my and my companion had enough beer in our glass. Pretty cool place (huge vs. the look from the outside). You are able to taste all of the options and all are very well done. Price wasn't bad as it was $25 for a mason jar. The Cafe Moonshine is really good! Great apparel offerings and secented candles (my wife bought the Apple Moonshine). I would have given it 5 stars but the guys working the sample areas were far from friendly, and dint tell you anything about the product. read more

They give out free samples. Don't touch the samples. I learned the hard way. I got berated over the top for trying to pour my wife a sample when the sample guy was away. I was a bit embarrassed. I think maybe people overdo the free samples. Don't touch the samples unless you want to get treated like a freeloader. On the positive side the honey whiskey is great. I give it ZERO stars for service and 4 stars for product quality. It averages to 2 Stars. read more

My husband and I visited this place twice while recently in Deadwood on vacation. The first time we visited we did a tasting with an older guy that had a braid. He was very helpful and steered us toward a few good moonshines. We really liked the Cafe s'loonshine and decided that we would get a quart of it when we got closer to the end of our vacation. When we went back we did another tasting, just to make sure of our decision to purchase Cafe. The younger guy that did our tasting had the personality of a toad. If he had been the one to do our initial tasting I doubt that we would have been back to make our purchase. When we let the guy know that we wanted a quart he did not tell us where it was located nor did he tell us that he would ring us up. He was absolutely no help at all. I'm glad that we got the s'loonshine, because it's awesome, but it really was no fun at all doing our second tasting. read more

I visited Deadwood distillery last week and picked up two bottles of their whiskey for a friend. I mentioned I heard it was good whiskey but hadn't ever tasted it. The salesman poured a small sample (1/3 of a shot??) and one half that size for the lady with me without being asked. I thought he was just giving us a free sample but I found later he charged us $5 each. I was not happy. read more

If this is five stars, I'm afraid to see what the rest of the town served. The Bartender was Cool and he made Great drinks. Unfortunately the pizza tasted a step above " Drive -In Movie pizza". A fantastic place to sit and relax, have a few drinks and a slice. Sam is hands down the best bartender in Deadwood, he even made his own drink with the cafe moonshine and raspberry, it had me coming back the second day just for that alone. They were out of bread for the cheese steak but he did make it in a calzone for us and it was beyond delicious, exactly what we needed after a day of drinking. read more
