My husband and I recently rented this cabin for our son and his new bride. The listing shows a beautiful, cozy, clean, and romantic place to stay. After our son's wedding, he and his new bride stopped by the cabin to unload and put away groceries before meeting everyone for dinner/cake. They didn't stay long. They noticed a musty odor but most things looked relatively nice on the outside. Our son and his new bride returned to the rental late on the first night and went to bed. The next morning, they noticed dust falling on them from the canopy. My daughter-in-law said her allergies began acting up. They called us and shared about the musty smell, scratched up walls, hair embedded in the living room pillows, stained living room pillows, the filthy filter cover and dust throughout the cabin. The massage table was decrepit under the sheet. The next morning they discovered both pillows were filthy brown and the mattress had stains ALL over it. They left one day early. Buffalo Creek Vacations provided us one of our most memorable Christmas experiences! The seasonal decorations were beautiful and the love put into presenting our cabin was definitely felt. Wonderful location where both Asheville and Clyde were easily accessible so whether you're looking for small town laid back or big city events, they are both in your backyard. Once a yr I find a unique lodging experience somewhere around the world or close in proximity. What a awesome experience in Clyde, NC! Very relaxing without all the hustle of the city. The booking, info sent prior and during or stay was awesome, they give you great directions, and tips for the area. They do have a small store on site for goodies and bison in the freezer. The property was amazing, peaceful, farm animals, and you can feed the bison at a scheduled time. We stayed in a real caboose, it reminded me of being in a tiny home. Inside the caboose had everything you need for the weekend. There are stores close in proximity if you forgot something. Very refreshing to wake up to peace and calmness each day. I normally travel to NC Mtns twice a yr for this very reason. You do have a private grill our front for cooking, and a full kitchen inside, so bring food. This was a unique experience and was worth every penny! Check the website out, they do have cabins for rent, I just may rent from them next yr! Enjoyed our stay to the fullest. We loved vacationing at Buffalo Creek a few years ago. The cabins, the amenities and the animals were so nice. We enjoyed nearby Pisgah national Park too. We bought bison meat from the store at Buffalo Creek to make dinner in our cabin. Overall a wonderful place for a family vacation. read more

Sleep in a caboose with a few amenities. I woke up to bison and a run away goat. We were able to feed the animals. They had a turkey, goats, small chickens, bison, bunnies, pigeons and alpacas with an attitude. The other houses are enormous but be ready for a hike to walk to them. No signal service and the wifi was spotty and you're a long way for anything but it's nice to disconnect from the world for awhile. read more

Again, like said in the previous reviews, words cannot describe how amazing this place is. The views, the bison hanging around the property the cabin itself was so beautiful. Me and my kid were about to explore the property when Jeff, one of the owners took the time to take us down to the petting zoo and give us a tour. That was the highlight of our trip. The place is incredible. I've been to Animal Kingdom at Disney World in the past, and I felt like I was there lol but this was the real deal. I would love to stay again hopefully when it snows thanks again this place is amazing! read more

We had the pleasure of staying at the Buffalo Bungalow over Valentine's day weekend in 2021. This place is the PERFECT little escape from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives in Asheville. Just a quick 30 minute drive and a couple of turns into Clyde and you're right at the property. Keep your eyes open as you roll through the property as the buffalo and goats are out and about on this working livestock farm. The bungalow was cozy and inviting, but extremely spacious for a single couple. The hot tub stayed hot, and the fresh air was tremendous. The biggest perk? Heated bathroom floors. If you're looking for a romantic get away you could hardly do better than treating yourself to a couple of nights at the Bungalow. As a hot tip, please be advised that a four wheel drive vehicle REALLY helps when it comes to navigating the gravel roads of Buffalo Creek, especially after a rain or winter storm. The bungalow is located on the top of a VERY steep concrete driveway, so getting to it could prove challenging for lesser vehicles. Also, bring coffee. Although they may treat you to some instant hot cocoa, and they have both a coffee pot and a keurig, you'll want to bring your own fresh roast or you'll be sad the morning following your stay! read more

This was our first long weekend getaway with our 7 adult children and Timber Hollow was perfect! Of course We loved being in the mountains, but Buffalo Creek has thought of everything! The large cabin is decorated beautifully, the bed is comfy, the kitchen has everything you'd need - including a mixer and crock pot. We used both. The kids loved that the huge round table fit all of us - perfect for meals and games. The pool table saw lots of action - and the hot tub was a big hit. We appreciated the firewood left so we could have a campfire each night. We hope to return and make this a regular destination for our growing family! We stayed in the Horse shoe cottage when visiting West North Carolina. It was such a peaceful and unique home! The house fit myself and my family comfortably and we loved all the amenities such as the hot tub, front and back porch and the fire pit. My daughter loved the swing and the slide in the back. There are so many attractions nearby and exploring the ranch and seeing all the animals was great! Cheryl and all the other owners were so kind and helpful! What a neat place! I took my family there for Spring Break and stayed in the Tatonka Lodge. The house was great, and honestly a lot bigger than we needed for my family of 5 and our dog, but it was nice to have the extra space. My kids loved having access to all of the farm animals and watching the daily bison feedings. I enjoyed the relative close proximity to the Pisgah Forest and Asheville for mountain biking. Overall great experience and I would highly recommend! read more

Pros: Great area, it was beautiful. The area was about a 15 minute drive from Cataloochee skiing and town. The caboose we stayed in had a unique charm as the buffalo could be seen outside the windows. On the ranch there were several other properties and livestock. There was a few hiking trails accessible to the guests and one playground for the kids. Cons: Extra hidden costs, (i.e) $5 per trash bag. The front was closed from 12/24-12/26. We ran out of toilet paper. Would not recommend bringing pets, the property owner Cheryl will not be as charming after checkout. Cheryl left a great review on Airbnb about our stay with them. Then the next day claimed that the guests after us refused to stay in caboose because of fur from the dogs, however paid $100 dog fee + $35 cleaning fee. Also accused us of having three dogs, not true. Agreed on two (70lbs) dogs prior to arrival. Before we were so excited to come back and visit. After checkout it left a sour experience. Btw don't even ask for anything left behind. Just an FYI: Cheryl's messages: it's $15 for left items + shipping. Also counteroffer accepted. As well as shipping which was $13 for two dog jackets. Please review the photos. Cheryl is the only one during this vacation who had an issue. The review from Cheryl was great and then the $75 charge was sent. I will stat that I counteroffered and only paid $57. The reason can been seen the photos and messages. read more

We booked Tatonka Lodge for a bachelorette party with 11 women and had an amazing time!! The house itself was beautiful and easily accommodated all of us. We took advantage of the hot tub and used the full kitchen to cook most of our meals. The location was great because we got to spend some time in the mountains walking around and looking at all the animals on the property, but also took a day to drive into Asheville and do a brewery tour and check out the shops and restaurants. Cheryl was easy to communicate with and everything went smoothly with our check in/out! I would highly recommend Buffalo Creek for a family vacation or a getaway with friends! read more

We really enjoyed our time. What a great location and vacation destination. The quality of the cabins is top-notch, great amenities and private. Love the Bison ranch and access to the Ashville area. Really great to work with the team to coordinate our trip. Make sure you have AWD to get to the cabins! The Bison are so cool. Bring extra trash-bags and the store has some really cool souvenirs. Bison Overlook Lodge: We had a wonderful week at Buffalo Creek! From the mini donkeys, bison, mini horses, goats and alpacas it was peaceful and had wonderful views. We had 8 people (4 adults, 3 teenagers, and 1 child) I will say this cabin isn't really suited for 8 people. The dining table only has 6 chairs with two additional stools off to the side that don't fit at the table (don't expect sit down meals comfortably with your family). My husband had to sleep on the couch downstairs because the queen master wasn't big enough for the two of us and our 5 year old. We planned on him sleeping on the pull out bed in the loft with one of the teens, but that is more like a twin sized space. Honestly, I should've looked further into this, but saying it sleeps 8 is not true. We would've booked a bigger cabin but it wasn't available that week. Otherwise, if you have a smaller group this is a wonderful cabin! Views are incredible, clean house, awesome fire pit and game room. read more

Excellent stay for our Holiday getaway. We stayed at the Hare Pin Inn and truly enjoyed being disconnected while away. Hearing the water in the creek and the birds chirping in the morning were just right. Kids definitely enjoyed seeing the bison on property and "talking" with the turkey. We spent 4 nights and the kids enjoyed seeing animals any chance we got. We made our way to the game room and mom and dad rested while kids played nicely. The animals enjoyed our company as well as we got to feed them twice. The playground was a bit of an Adventure hike but kids had fun. We would love to make it back sooner than later. read more

Spent a weekend in the gray caboose, which was awesome! Very comfortable and exceptionally clean! I was not a fan of the bed, but I like a former sleep, so it might be ok for others. We were there in April 2021. Although I think it is geared more toward families with children, as all adults we had a great stay as well. If you love animals you will love this place. There are plenty of things to do nearby. Great little produce market up the road a bit. Everyone was very friendly and the Bison and other meats they sell at their store is wonderful. Doesn't taste anything like what you get in the grocery stores. Loved sitting out on the deck in the evenings. read more

We just got back from the most amazing vacation! My daughter was getting married at Chestnut Ridge in Canton NC and we wanted the family to enjoy some time together! Our cabin was Bison Escape! If you are considering this, do yourself a favor and just book it! The cabin was outstanding! 3 large bedrooms, my granddaughters loved the bunk beds and the kitchen, living room and playroom were fantastic! We never felt cramped the rooms are all spacious and the outdoor area was out of this world!! We loved it, I know you will too! read more

We stayed at Timber Hollow and it was a great experience. Having two kitchens came in handy because my friend and his family stayed in the lower level and they had their own space. The beds were all comfy as well as the sofas. There is spacious seating at the dining room table. It was refreshing to wake up in the morning and step outside to enjoy a coffee and hear the bison snorting. My family had a great time petting and feeding the smaller farm animals.The cabin was clean from top to bottom. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of 3 things. There isn't really any WiFi. It only works occasionally and is weak then. The downstairs bath could use some TLC(it's not bad, just need some paint on the vanity). The ping pong table is basically unusable because it's broken. I would NOT let these things stop you from staying here because they are really minor. It's in a great spot for visiting many different places. I would stay here again if I come back to this area. read more

Buffalo Creek (BC) is a hidden gem! We booked Buffalo Bungalow for a week in July and could not have been more pleased with our stay. The cabin exceeded expectations in every way. It was clean and felt very warm and inviting, a true home away from home. The full wrap-around covered porch, which on the backside of the cabin included a hot tub (clean/freshly refilled) and one of the best views on the property (partially cleared with view of Blue Ridge Mountains), was definitely a highlight. During our stay there were frequent thunderstorms in the late afternoon/evening, but the porch offered the perfect coverage to sit back and enjoy nature and weather that would normally force you indoors. The passed the bison every morning on our way out and the other animals came up to the cabin later in the afternoon to feed on plants and the corn feed via the chute built up to the deck/porch. The location was great, we ending up visiting the Nantahala River for rafting, drove through Pisgah National Forest (visited Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls), and stopped into downtown Asheville on a few occations, all within 35 mins to an hour of BC and Clyde, NC. Our vacation was truly 5 stars, thanks to Buffalo Creek! read more

My husband and kids and I all had such a wonderful time here. It was so neat to stay in a real caboose, yet with all the comforts of a luxury vacation rental and breathtaking mountain views. There was something for each of us, whether it was watching the bison in the field right outside our window everyday or playing on the playground on the property or visiting the best model train layout I have seen to date, also right on the property. We also really enjoyed visiting and feeding the animals, including llamas, goats, horses, chickens and even a turkey. What a truly unique, relaxing and fun vacation spot.
