Quality has gone insanely downhill over the years. Although the staff was welcoming and kind, there's absolutely no plus size clothing here, all of it is centric to teens and 20-somethings, but the worst is that it's CHEAP. Here and there on the shelves you'll see a vintage purse or some cool boots, but overall (I'm guessing because they're trying to cater to the number of colleges in the area), everything is from H&M, Target, Shein, Fashion Nova, and mostly in M to XXS. But the worst is that those things aren't even brand new; they're stained and pilled! You can get the exact same things at Goodwill down the street for less than $5. They also don't accept true vintage (I've attempted to sell things from the 1940s-1970s that were almost new and all were rejected), they don't accept plus size even though their sign says they do (I've attempted to donate multiple gowns that are size 18+ and they weren't taken regardless of season), and even things with tags like men's dress slacks or sweaters from Banana Republic (again, brand new with tags), weren't taken. I have no idea what their aesthetic is supposed to be, or what they really want for the store. It's a great space in a heavily trafficked area. A truly vintage store or higher end consignment store like Covet could make so much money here. Since many places are not taking clothing anymore due to COVID, most people end up walking down the street to the church thrift shop and at least donating their bags of things so they aren't thrown out. Pro: Staff is nice. On rare occasions you'll find something you need. Usually in the men's section. Con: This isn't a vintage store, a high end thrift store, or even a junk shop where you can score a deal. It's a place that sells marked up cheap fast fashion, wrapped in the "look" of a hipster place like The Garment District. Donate your clothing to shelters, church thrift stores, recycling centers, or even sell it on Facebook Marketplace or have a yard sale. I fully expect this place to be out of business soon. read more

This store is odd to say the least (I'm being kind). I read the reviews after I went to the store and felt so much better. While I was there I kept thinking, are you kidding me? Did an actual person choose these clothes to be sold here on purpose or do they secretly go dumpster diving at night and throw what they find directly onto a hanger? Do they choose the cheapest, filthiest, most pilly sweaters on purpose? Is this 'in style'? Is dirty fast fashion and puffy sleeves like in the 90's in style'? It must be because I watched a few clients come in to sell clothes, clothing that was super cool, hip, stylish and comfy. One girl had the best sweaters and a couple great puffer jackets - not in style they said? Huh? I literally wanted to say, just go outside and rub all your clothes on the sidewalk and road! absolutely the worst place to sell clothes. they will take newer clothes from fashionova, shien etc but will turn away good clothes just because it's not make brand. the sellers are openly greedy and say they will take the better clothes. they openly try to low ball and turn away clothes if THEY don't like it not if someone else would buy it. i really think this store has lost its core values and is ran too much by selfish folk who only want to manipulate the sellers. read more

I had an appointment at 2:20 and at 3:15 I told them my appointment was supposed to be at 2:20. The girl said "Oh I was told we already helped you." So that was annoying. Why would they lie about that?? They barely took any of my clothes because they weren't trendy enough. The girl said she wanted the shorts to be "high wasted and flared out" as she was literally putting a pair of high waisted Levi's back into my bag... They didn't take my black skinny jeans and a ton of other simple pieces. They don't take any clothes for some reason. Don't go here they suck. read more

Came here to sell clothes. They are SUPER SELECTIVE. They like weird "trendy" urban pieces. The people are super nice, but you're better off not wasting your time. But really, the staff here are great. Customers or sellers shouldn't take offense to them not wanting your clothes (seems to be a lot of the bad reviews). In terms of buying, things are pretty expensive for a thrift store, just go to Urban Renewal or a Goodwill. read more

I like this location. Here's why: The buyers are selective. I sell seasonally-- there are sometimes where they take a lot, sometimes they take a little. They stay in trend and pick out higher quality, clean items. (For those who get offended when they don't sell as much, imagine being these buyers can't be easy to yes/no a persons wardrobe-- I mean they gotta make a profit) As a frequent shopper (in general), I appreciate the fine combing. I usually can find high quality brands and clean shoessss at fractions of the market price here, often times barely worn. When I shop second hand, which I often do, i never want to buy Ill-fitting, stained clothes. And while I will not shy away from more thrifty stores-- the quality here is miles above. I can't speak for the entire staff, but some of the people here are really thoughtful and helpful. Buyer Kyle is always really nice/quick to offer fitting room or great conversation and the person who I think is a/the manager(has a really cool quirky style), is always so warm and makes everyone(lol me) feel at home. read more

It's ridiculous how much of a JOKE this store is. I went in with two large bags of name brand clothes in nearly perfect condition (Madewell, Patagonia, Nike, Articles of Society, Zara) as well as trendy boutique items (a velvet sweatshirt, leather pants) and they took NONE of it on the basis of it was "out of style." I'm sorry, when are black skinny jeans not in style?? When are nice, solid color sweaters NOT worn by people in the Northeast?? And yet they're selling Shein, H&M, Princess Polly trash that was made in a sweatshop marked up for $18 for a shirt. Damn it sucks. I wanted so hard to give them the benefit of the doubt since I'd never been to this location in particular (never really liked the other ones either). BUT this was my first time selling. Just as other plus size friends have mentioned, not much option and over priced for what it is. I knew going in I'd be ripped off even though a lot of my clothes were either brand new with tags, real vintage, or just simply good quality/well taken care of. They took absolutely nothing. This Buffalo Exchange is a *wonderland* if you're looking for cheap, good-quality clothing for a quick outfit. The reviews for selling collectively say the employees here are extremely selective and I'm glad for it! The pieces in this location are clean, of good quality, and super wearable. I bought 10 tops plus accessories for $90, which included a Christian Dior top I found for $6. Last but not least, the staff is so nice and chill. Buffalo Exchange has really nice clothing most of the time, and the prices are for the most time fair. My issue is in the selling of clothing. SELECTIVE. It seems that there is no way to know what they are looking for and when I lug my clothing there, I might be able to get rid of two items out of an entire bag. They should have something online that says what they're looking to buy. Maybe they already have that, I don't know. They also need more buyers as well, there are always long lines and long waits to sell. All of that only subtracted one star. Wish I read the reviews. Tried to sell clothes here and they took none of my clothes. Said they were out of style yet they charge 15 dollars for old dusty sandals from target. Brought in tons of plus size and curvy clothes (as it's obvious they do not have ANY trendy plus size clothes)--and accepted none of them. None of their mannequins were wearing anything stylish or even anything that looked clean. read more

Either open your changing rooms or allow for full exchanges. I was trying on shirts near the mirror, someone nicely asked me to try on the items at home then bring back what I didn't want. I brought back one shirt I didn't want legit 2 hours later, and was then told I could only receive store credit for returns. I would have nevvvver risked bringing home the shirt I returned if I had known that. Every one who works here is really nice... but management owes me $26.00 not in store credit, but back on my card. Still like this store a lot. The sales staff and buyers are always friendly, even when they are super busy with a long line of people waiting to sell items Always so cheerful. They are rather selective in what they will take. It is so disappointing to come with a huge bag of clothes only to end up lugging 80-90% of the clothes back home. After now having sold stuff here a number of times, I am starting to understand the logic of what they like and what they don't like. I had high hopes for this shop but what I found is they are reselling fast fashion for as much as the original price and rejecting quality items. I've come here many times over the past few years and it's really more miss than hit. Most of the store is full of low-quality brands like shein or fashion nova. I found a primark belt here once with the original tag at 8$ and buffalo exchange was selling it at 12$... I went in this morning and the woman at the fitting room wouldn't let me try on clothes with my own purse...she had me leave it with her... thought that was super weird as it's my property and why would I trust her to watch it if she doesn't trust me to have it in the room? The people here do not properly evaluate the clothing. They have the ugliest clothing on the rack and they only choose based off the weird corky styles of the kids that work there. I brought in mint condition Nine West Shoes, Zara Boots never worn, Calvin Klein Jean jackets, coach sneakers, you name it. They gave me $7 for my $60 Everlane pants that still had the tag on. They aren't like a typical consignment store. They take WHITE PEOPLES CLOTHING ONLY. Because If you're black, your mint condition clothing will be rejected. I watched the people before me selling their items and they had similar items to mine but they received over $100 in cash. I guess you have to be white for them to trust your gear is real. Most of the clothes for sale is fast fashion. Racks and racks of Forever 21, H&M, Zara, etc. I'm all for recycling fast fashion, but after reading some reviews, it seems as if they intentionally stock the store with these brands and reject other quality brands (idk why??). If you need something affordable and essential, this might be the place for you. There are usually some good used winter coats and boots that are much more affordable than retail (brands like Columbia, Northface, Doc Martens, etc). Or if you want to find urban, one season only items, you might like it, but for me, it just wasn't worth the time going through all the racks of clothing to find maybe one or two okay items or nothing at all. The store tries to be sustainable by selling totes, but I really wish they had the more timeless pieces that stay treasured in your closet forever read more

Complete waste of your time/effort/money, either as a buyer or a seller. I tried to sell my clothes there, literally dozens of once-worn or never-worn items from places like modcloth, forever 21, h&m, ann taylor, etc, and the salesgirl said none of them were what they were looking for. I understand they look for "trends" but I'm disinclined to believe that, out of a giant selection of clothes from several different stores, absolutely none of them were sellable. I asked what she was looking for, and she told me "stuff from forever 21, high-end items, but only if they have been worn once." I've been there as a customer before and found a $6 shirt from forever 21 being resold for $12, and I know this because I'd literally bought that $6 shirt from forever 21 the week before. I don't understand the morality of taking something that's already dirt cheap and doubling the price for the sake of "thriftiness." My advice to customers: skip the middleman, save your money, and just go to forever 21, which supplies about 90% of the store's inventory; you'll get the same things for half-off without someone having worn it (only once!) before. my advice to sellers: donate your stuff to urban renewal or goodwill. sure, you won't get the max $7 you might have gotten out of buffalo exchange, but at least you're contributing to something more beneficial to the community. read more

So I'm a huge fan of thrifting and sustainable fashion. I went to the Somerville location today, they took less than a quarter of the 70ish items I brought them, which I found strange. I was selling clothes I have gathered in the past 4 years. I'm a 20 y/o in college, So a good amt of them were trendy, from urban outfitters and American eagle. I was expecting them to take a lot more? Was super surprised. Their clothes are very cute, but it's not the best place to sell. They will value less than half of your clothes at below a reasonable price. What pissed me off the most was, I visited the Somerville location, made about $50. I then went to Brookline to get another appraisal. Waited an hour for 2 employees to go through the woman infront of me's 2 suitcases. I walked up afterwards, told the man I had been at the Somerville location, and he told me that he could not look at my clothes. He didn't even explain why. This was so frustrating, as a student who wants to give more to thrift shops to increase sustainable shopping. The store did not give me a reasonable answer to why they would not look though my clothes. It was only that I had been at their separate location today. This was incredibly frustrating as I had dedicated my day to trying to give to thrift stores in the greater Boston area, while also attempting to make some money. I don't think I'll return to this location to sell. Hopefully this is helpful. read more

When I brought my clothes in to them, they asked why I was getting rid of them. I said that I was doing a Marie Condo purge. Then they actually said out loud, "We don't want the clothes that you don't want; we want what you DO want." They said to bring in my favorite things. They turned down designer clothes with the tag on them. They accepted the crappiest things I brought. Donating is a better option. I just lost a bunch of weight, and as I looked at my pile of gorgeous clothes I no longer fit into, I joked, "We don't want what doesn't fit you; we want the clothes that fit you." As a buyer, looking on the racks, it was all junk, nothing in the whole place I would have taken home with me or put on my body. And everything was super expensive. I went to try to sell some of my clothing because I'm trying to transition my wardrobe to being completely sustainable. I brought two large bags of clothes (clothes that I would continue to wear were it not for the fact that I'm trying to make this change) one pair of jeans in the bag was actually a purchase I had made at this very buffalo exchange a week ago, but after wearing once realized they weren't as great of a fit as I thought they were. Have been here a few times and it's very overpriced and not very clean. Prices are actually pretty close to retail in some cases (eg they had a bunch of Forever 21 tops for $10-15 last time I went). Save yourself $$ and go to the Urban Renewals or Goodwill which are within walking distance from here. read more
