So I know the wings are famous here. The wings here aren't bad, but the spice level was a bit much -- maybe I'd say gimmicky in a way. I mean you're pretty much having jalapenos and buffalo sauce with a side of chicken. And that's something coming from someone who loves their food to be saucy. So unfortunately, the spice overpowered everything else. Service was fine and the atmosphere was casual, but overall, it wouldn't be a place I would have to necessarily visit again.

Perhaps I had too high expectations going in but did not think Buffalo Joe's lived up to the hype of all the accolades for wing spots in the Chicagoland area. I got the rib tip & wing combo and while I enjoyed the rib tips, the wings were subpar at best. Small, not terribly tasty and nowhere near the level of spiciness I would expect from ones labeled suicide. One plus - the service was very good. Friendly staff and prompt ordering made up a little for the poor quality wings.

Favorite food spot! The mild sauce is the best and I will continue to come here everytime for a quick meal!

    Small Rib Tips

First time going here. I just moved to the area and found this place when I searched for hot wings. The reviews were 3.5 some great and some not so great but I still gave them a shot. We ordered hot wings, a small tip, and one hot link. The wings were really tiny and hard you take one bite and it was gone. The rib tips were mostly bones and the part that did have meat were really hard. Kids could not chew it. The hot link was just that... too much sauce and not spicy at all. I spend about 33$ for everything and I won't be returning. Oh and it's cash only

Two orders of fish and chips no rib tips

My fiancé ordered a large rib tip and a small fish and chips to go. Drove over 30 mins to get to my mother in laws house just to realize that they gave us two orders of fish and chips and no rib tip. Not to mention their "fish and chips" are just shrimp, which my fiancé is used to fish and chips being cod not shrimp. Huge disappointment

Came here before 15 minutes closing because I was hungry. Maybe because I had a late dinner and hungry, but I think I had one of the buffalo chicken wing in my life. Great value for the price wasn't expecting it to be that good. The food took less than 5 minutes so maybe it was leftover from an earlier batch or an employee meal to go. But man the spicy sauce was addictive. Not going to leave a burn but a flavor bomb that keeps lasting. Place is cash only, which is a good sign to see a place trying to keep cost low.

Many people who I've talked to, have nothing but good things to say about Buffalo Joes. I on the other hand didn't enjoy them one bit. Service is a little off with it being take out only for now, but that didn't bother me and I am not basing my review on their service. Strictly food. I ordered a single order of their suicide and a double order of their mild wings. The wings are decently priced. You get a lot of wings for your money, but they didn't really taste good. Soon wings were tiny as hell, so they didn't have any meat on them. They were overcooked and too dry. The mild sauce tasted weird and was thick. The suicide was a huge disappointment. You can't name wings suicide, if they're not going to be flaming effing spicy. Probably won't be returning anytime soon.

Terrible. Choked on a piece of aluminum inside my rib tips. Almost died. Almost went back and gave them the piece of aluminum that choked me

Wings are very small and the mild buffalo sauce is somewhat chunky and not good at all. I won't return

So, we moved to the bar. Eventually another group came, sat at the bar for Happy Hour and then were offered a table. They asked if they could do Happy Hour at the table and were told yes. Confusing Anyway, our bartender was lovely and the food was very good. Highlights were the lamb meatballs, the onion and goat cheese tart, and the taquitos. The crab cake wasn't great and definitely not worth the price. The space is cozy and you don't hear the train at all. Drinks were fine - mine seemed very light on the gin.

So started off with th Prosecco and the pink City (?) a great refreshing cocktail. We started with the crab cake and the pork belly. Both were fabulous. The latter had some greens and what seemed like a truffle sauce that i used the bread to get every bit of. We had the Chilean sea bass and the duck breast for entrees. They were superb. The sea bass was huge, and the breast served on a bed of charred veggies and shallots. Unbelievable. We finished with the lemon mousse Napoleon. Just wonderful. The service was perfect. water filled, more wine .very attentive. We'll definitely be back. One of the best dining in Evanston.

It's located right down the street from Northwestern University's football stadium (whatever the heck they're naming it). This is a nice hidden gem in Evanston. Not located downtown, it may have a chance to stick around a while. As Jane V. noted in her review, you are greeted by a delicious smoky smell when you enter the restaurant. It was an inviting smell (at least for me), others in our group thought we were walking into a barbecue joint and were less than thrilled, but the menu put them at ease as it has a lot of options. There were five of us and one couple decided to share a couple appetizers as their entrees. They ordered the Cauliflower Buffalo Bites, and the Macho Nacho. They were huge portions easily enough for us all to share. However, my wife and I don't see eye-to-eye with our eating habits (she is mostly vegetarian and I'm a card-carrying carnivore), so she was not about to share the smoky wings and cheesy tots with me. I opted for the Chicken Vesuvio entree, and she and our other friend both ordered the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese. I would say most the sandwiches looked good (no portobello for me, thanks). I would say though, the desserts are pretty generic, so we opted out, but their is a door inside the restaurant to the donut shop next door (which was closed), but I wanted to try that place, so I'll have to make another trek out there for them and review them later. I'm amazed that the donut shop, DB3 Donuts, does not appear on their menu at all, despite having a connecting door from one establishment to the other, but alas, I've heard their apple crisp and brownie are good, but neither were too appealing that night. All meals were delicious and I definitely need to go back and try other dishes. And may DB3, if they are open. Give this place some love as it is a nice gem in Evanston.

So much so that I ordered the smoked Sampler plate, and was I glad I did. I started off with their Top O' The Morning special Saint Patrick's cocktail (Titos, Curacao, and orange juice shaken and poured over ice). I really loved this drink. My hubby had a Margarita that was just delightful. Our appetizers were: Angry Shrimp (really delicious) shrimp with a spicy tomato garlic sauce. Served over polenta cake. Ahi Tuna Wanton (mango jicama salsa, avocado, and teriyaki sauce) This should be their signature appetizer). The presentation is impeccable. It appealed to our eyes before the 1st bite. And,the first bite, as well as the rest, was wonderful. We would gladly return here just for this. Our entrees were: Grilled Salmon with corn risotto, grilled asparagus, smoked tomato aioli. The salmon was well cooked to medium, not too dry, and not too rare. The plate was well balanced and everything was very tasty. Smoked Sampler My favorite! Rib tips, brisket, pulled pork, Texas toast, cole slaw. For dessert: Chocolate Brownie Apple Crisp Both were so good that we did not want to share! The next time you are in the Evanston area, you really must stop in for their delicious food!

I walked past Evanston Corner Bistro on a September Tuesday at that awkward not lunch anymore, but also not dinner time. Relieved to find it open I did a 180 turn and headed to the charming manager, Melissa, who was attentive, funny and seated me immediately. This building has been at least five establishments on my watch, most of them not too memorable, and a few dreadful. However, I am very happy to say this iteration and restaurant impressed me, especially their endearing staff. I am now currently obsessed with their take on a turkey club that the knowledgable, elegant, and attentive waiter, Ben, highly recommended. Caramelized onions, arugula, gruyere, garlic aioli, yes gawd, please. This thing was huge. Dagwood sized, jaws unhinged to consume. I had to take half home with me, which was devoured by a grateful husband a few hours later. People, I don't think I have ever thought about a turkey sandwich beyond consumption, but damn it if I don't want another one today. I now lament allowing the hubby access to this revelation on bread. I also had a cucumber gazpacho that truly freaked me out in an "I'll try anything once, holy crap this is really delicious!" way. I think Ben mentioned there was an apple gastric drizzled in there, which is probably the secret sauce. So yeah, now I need more of that, too. Socially speaking, I must mention that these kids are so lovely. I hate to bother staff during that unpopular time, but I was feeling rather low, and needed some company. I was delighted to be treated very well. I even got a few snatches of very interesting conversation, which gave me a chance to practice not being a feral curmudgeon in public. Ben is a very well traveled fellow and he knows his food. So does Melissa, but watch out for her, though. She looks the very picture of innocence, but she can whip out a joke with such stealth and precision that you will think you're merely discussing a current event, then BAMMO, you might find yourself doing a spit-take or guffaw and a groan. Soon, I'll head back for steak frites and a martini, most likely an early bird Golden Girl's special, so I can get some special attention, and, perhaps, a joke. Thanks, corner kids. See you again, soon!
