This is a relatively new buffet at Gold Strike Casino in Tunica Mississippi. When in Tunica, I play poker at the Horseshoe, which is right next door to Gold Strike. Tunica used to be like a mini-Vegas, but it dried up. I'm going to do my best to change that and bring Tunica back. It's part of the reason I drove three hours from Pearl River to Tunica (for a meeting). As far as the Gold Strike Buffet Americana goes it's one of the better casino buffets. It's also WAY better than the buffet at the Horseshoe. If you want to go the buffet route, go with this one. It's not even close. The service here was good, it's clean, and you can get your own drinks (a good thing at buffets in case the food sucks and you need to wash it down). Buffet Americana did a good job for Tunica. Buffet Americana prides themselves on quality and service. I have yet to have had a bad experience. My servers has always been on top of keeping my table clean. When I pile up plates and glasses a mile high or table spills. I also like the fact of the convenience of the self service beverage station offering your normal lines of sodas juices & milk along with a alcoholic beverage station offering beer & wine Buffet Americanas chefs & kitchen staff do the most exceptional job working their stations weather it's carving stations or the cooking stations for pasta or stir fry. They're on top of their game in making sure it's hot fresh delectable & fits the most picky of pallets. Not to forget our chefs working in the back trenches of the kitchen to feed the hungry masses of starving gamers. The food they bring to each of their stations seafood italian or whichever station they're assigned to cook & maintain. But without further ado I would like to mention the end to any great lunch or dinner the dessert station. Everything is kept fresh has a viva variety of desserts to choose from. From your sugar free pies pastries and Ice Cream you can customize yourself with toppings and syrup. The Buffet Americana inside Gold Strike is affordable, has decent food and caters to most tastebuds. After a long afternoon/evening of gambling this can work up an appetite so we felt that this was a good break for us and convenient as we were already gambling and staying at the hotel. There was a small line to get into the buffet and we presented our 'M Life' cards which one of the blackjack dealers had loaded with credit for the buffet (thanks Terrell!) We were led to a booth and then they took our drink order before we were able to get up and pick the food we wanted. They have different stations such as a meat carving station, a seafood station, a salad bar, hot sides, pizza, a Mongolian stir fry, Chinese food bar and a dessert bar. I tried a little bit from most of the stations. This buffet switches around their food offerings so depending on what day you come you may have different menu offerings and selections. The seafood buffet is on weekends as is the champagne brunch. My favorites: -The desserts were all pretty good. The lemon meringue pie had a great flavor and the caramel sea salt ice cream was unique but delicious. -A few of the sides such as the creamed spinach, mac n cheese, succotash, asparagus and the salad bar were all good. I also really liked the egg drop soup which you could put in wonton pieces and green onion in it. My least favorites: -The shrimp salad. The shrimp in it were small not the jumbo kind. It also had imitation Krab in it instead of real crab. -The meatloaf. You know when they say that there's nothing like mom's cooking? Well, any mom could make better meatloaf than this one. -The hush puppies. No flavor so if you are going to eat something fried then don't bother with the calories for this one. Food choice is not what I expected. When overindulging this is the place to go bc every food server adds too much of the extra, egg and bacon for salad, cheese for pasta and it ruins the dish. Decided to take a trip to Tunica,MS to pretty much to play at the casino,so I can enjoy myself. On the way to the casino I wanted to grab food to eat before I started playing. All the other restaurants at gold strike was pretty much full,except the Americana buffet had decent amount of people. The amount to eat there was pretty pricey to eat at the restaurant.In my opinion I felt like it wasn't worth the pay.The food was pretty dry looking & few of the workers there were rude. They did not want to serve at all. I heard workers talking to each other saying rude things about the customers. I visited Buffet Americana just a few weeks ago and I am still traumatized from my most recent experience. I brought someone that's not from the South to what supposedly is the best casino buffet north of the gulf coast. Service (+)...we are in the south and hospitality reins Food (-)...The whole food experience! The original dessert stations, Mongolian grill, and Asian stations were CLOSED. The food temp was sub par. The crab legs (you have to pay +$13 for an add-on) were not seasoned. I was there for brunch and there was no band/jazz. The fried catfish was cold and hard. Speaking of that--besides the carving station the only main meats you have are FRIED chicken and catfish. Half of the buffet consisted of breakfast items but I guess it was brunch right. Oh, and as a true Mississippian, I 100% guarantee you that the cornbread was store bought and it was not fresh. It is by far the worst place I have ever eaten. $26 for the buffet and I noticed right away how unappealing the food appeared and little did I know that was only the beginning. I ask for one chicken breast and some fried catfish. The chicken was so dried and hard I could barely get a bite off it. The catfish fillets were fried so hard there was barely a flake of fish on the inside. I was able to get a bite of the Mac and cheese down only because I had it get food in me because I am diabetic. I could have added crab legs for an additional charge of $17 per pound but glad I didn't. The days of good meals being found at casinos are over. Please don't risk eating here. Don't think you will find something to eat at Sweet Tea snack bar either. Tried breakfast there the next morning and it was just as awful. read more

Went on a Friday night and for my entree I picked a few pieces of fried catfish, mashed potatoes, and Mac cheese. Two of the pieces of catfish were good but one must've been rolled in too much salt by accident. No big deal, I still could eat it. My family all had the prime rib and was pleased. The staff was everywhere but at their station's; too busy with conversations between themselves and playing on their cellphones. Another situation where I need a half star to award 2.5, sadly Im rounding down as I was very underwhelmed. Not the worst food, not the best. Definitely not a buffet worth the drive from Memphis so I'd only go if I happened to be in Tunica anyway. I had a coupon for buy one get one on the weekend brunch given to me at an event, since we were in Tunica for some clay shooting on a Sunday morning we decided to make this our dining destination. Seating is divided into two mirroring areas with tables and booths. The decor is modern and nice but nothing special. The brunch includes mimosas and bloody Mary's which is nice but you go up to the bar and get yourself, annoying. All of the standard breakfast foods are provided as well as some southern style sides, a carving station and pizza. I have a big problem with the fact that brunch goes until 2pm and at 12:15 they were not refilling food that had run out. None of the food stood out as being "good" either, just meh. They did have chocolate covered strawberries at dessert - that and mimosas were the saving grace. At half price for two I felt ok with the experience but do not find it worth the $21.99 price tag. read more

We went to an event in Memphis a couple months ago called Soup Sunday at the FedEx forum and we were given a couple vouchers for a complimentary champagne brunch at the Buffet Americana. Thus, we decided to include this buffet as part of our staycation in Tunica. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly and made our way to the buffet. They had an omelet station and waffle station which was nice, but I was not terribly overwhelmed by the selection; a rival buffet had more options. We sat down with our plates of food and honestly, everything outside of the eggs, bacon, and sausage was rather unsatisfactory when it came to brunch foods. The chicken fried steak was very bland, the prime rib was too tough, and the hash-brown casserole...let's not even get started. In addition, they said they were open until 2, but were already taking foods away at 12:15, which I thought was not a good business practice on their end. However, we did have a server who would refill our sodas which was nice. The mimosas were also good. We then went on to get dessert. They had chocolate covered strawberries which my girlfriend enjoyed, and I saw they had one of my favorite types of ice cream - sea salt caramel. I got a cup full of the ice cream and gleefully made my way back to our table. I took a spoonful of the ice cream, and glee turned into disappointment; the ice cream was bland and not very sweet. Normally, this meal would have been $22 a person plus tax and tip, and for that price, I certainly would not come back here. However, we do have one more BOGO coupon, and for that price, I'm willing to give this place another try. I took my BF to eat seafood @ Horseshoe for his 9/27/13 B-Day. We ate brunch @ Gold strike on Saturday, 9/28 and enjoyed made-to-order fresh omelet and waffle; so good. I also had grits, sausage links, corned beef hash, spinach frittata ???, scrambled eggs & pancake. The corn beef hash was good!, pancake has more meal in it then I'm used to, the scrambled eggs were soft-like; tasted like imitation powdered eggs, the grits were ok, I've had better. My BF had hash browns & steak, said both were good. What makes this 5 stars is the variety of fruits, breakfast and brunch items that can be made-to-order and the mimosas and bloody mary's-- I had two!! It was our first time & we look forward to going back. We don't really gamble (BF spent $5, won $15, cashed out!!!). I just wanted a salad but the salad station wasn't exactly the best. Just the bare minimum. I guess the notion of a salad in Mississippi was probably a dubious proposition at best. I stayed at the Hotel for my 15 years anniversary and it came with $100 comp night, so I went to eat at the Buffet, glad I went on a Friday, that was when we had the fresh snow crab leg, it was really good, the next day went for buffet again... snow crab wasn't up to my standard from Friday and Saturday same thing.. This buffet has everything. It's one of those buffets that has so much variety that one often does not know where to begin. Southern, Chinese, seafoood, Italian, prime rib - just about every genre. It also has unlimited wine and beer included in the price of the buffet at dinner and mixed drinks such as bloody marys and mimosas at the breakfast buffet. The problem is getting seated. The wait in line for a table is extremely long unless you get there very early and even then the seating is not very fast. Also, some of the workers seem unhelpful (almost as if they belong to unions - maybe they do?) while others are very focused and helpful. IF you do get a table, I suggest walking around and having a look at the entire buffet before starting to fill your plate. You will probably want to hit just a few of your favorites. read more
