Located on the…read moreBaraboo Square, there are toys of all kinds for just about any age you can think of at extremely reasonable prices. This can easily be a one-stop-shop for your kid's birthday, event or holiday on any truly any budget. From books, stuffed animals, things that bounce, things that glow, make sounds, bath toys...everything in between! There are big brand items as well as lesser known great brands to choose from. From the outside the store doesn't look very big, but the store extends very far back. The staff have always been cheerful & they do a great job wrapping up your gifts at the counter if they ask. It feels great to support a local business too. Parking is limited to the marked street parking on the Square but there's usually a spot. If not, just a block away is a large parking lot & it's a short stroll over to the store. I highly recommend this business for shopping local or just popping in to uplift your spirits!

Got a Christmas present wrapped and they topped it with a ribbon and candy cane. Honestly, something for everyone from young to old. Even got myself a gorgeous stuffed animal.

I turned around to find multiple rows of calendars that featured women in skimpy bikinis. There was a picture that was eye-level with my 3 year old nephew of one tan, skinny, model with her legs spread apart in the sand. Her unnaturally large breasts were practically bursting out of her tiny bikini top. She had her fingers touching her mouth and everything about it was suggestive and sensual. That was just one picture on a row of equally offensive pictures. There was another picture that was eye level with my 6 year old nephew where the woman was turned around backwards with her sandy butt in a thong taking up most of the shot. I am a counselor in Wisconsin who has studied the effect pornographic and sexually suggestive images have on human cognitive functioning extensively. Exposure so young is extremely unhealthy and it sets in motion patterns of thinking that are destructive. We are setting our children up for failure and pain if we allow such frivolous sexual expression in public environments where children cannot escape it (e.g a toy store). My extended family frequents this mall and we will not be making anymore purchases at this shop until changes are made.

I experienced inexplicable and outright disrespectful conduct from the owner, Bruce, during my last…read morevisit to Capital City Comics. Despite the multiple 1 star reviews citing Bruce's erratic and rude behavior, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and support a local comics business. I came here a few times over the past year or two and bought a few things with no issue. Recently I went in and grabbed a giant pile of graphic novels to buy, ~$200 worth. The last few times I came in, he charged books at cover price and is generally amicable and friendly. This visit, he said he could not sell the pile of books I wanted because he had to "do some research" to "save me a few bucks" so that he wasn't "over-charging me". I told him that I don't need to save a few bucks and would just like to buy the books as-is and would pay whatever price he wanted, I didn't care about price, I just wanted the books! He grabbed the pile of books and hid them behind the counter and refused to sell them to me. His mood quickly changed to rude and abrasive. He made multiple abrasive comments, effectively ending the conversation. I left the store feeling quite perplexed as I had been nothing but courteous and kind during the visit, and I couldn't fathom what brought about this spate of complete irrational behavior. Is he developing dementia? I can't explain why the owner of a store would NOT want to sell books to someone. These were all books with multiple printings, all of which I've since found on eBay for 1/2 cover price, so I don't think he was trying to rip me off. I can't put it together. I had ~$1000 set aside to spend on graphic novels over the next month, and needless to say it will NOT be spent at Capital City Comics. Life is too short to put up with being treated disrespectfully. I strongly recommend avoiding this place. People like Bruce give comics a bad name, which is a shame because there are so many good and kind people who read comic books. I would rather pay 10x the price for books than be treated like that again.
