    Halloween is near

THIS is specifically why I brought my grand-niece to National Harbor. It was so quiet in the store; we had it all to ourselves. What's the hardest thing about bringing a 16-month old to build a bear? ...getting them to focus! There are so many options. You can pick your bear, give them a heart, give them a voice, dress them, and buy them furniture. Soooo much to consider! My niece finally honed in on the purple kitty (I can't remember her name there were so many). It was a Halloween kitty that we could dress in a Halloween get-up with a witch hat and broom. So cute. The store employee filled it with stuffing and asked if we wanted more. The baby chose the heart and handed it over to be placed inside. The outfit came separate. Once purchased the store employee asked if we wanted him to dress the cat. Lol.... Too cute. They were very helpful. You could easily spend hundreds of dollars in here if you purchase more than one outfit, furniture, voice options, etc. But it's a key memory for the baby and she loved that cat.

9/26/20 This Build A Bear Shop has more to offer than the other shop we visited today. However, the music I heard was atrocious. I can't remember who was playing, but this is a good thing. We were the only ones to stop by at the time so the employee who greeted us was dancing to the music playing. Still she had a sense of humor, but I think she would have rather been by herself. We didn't buy anything even though this store had Baltimore Ravens Merchandise for your stuffed animal. Maybe next time.

    She was so happy!

We went to take my daughter to make a bear for her new baby brother. It was completly empty, every single staff member was super sweet! There was even something wrong with the price, and they caught it before i even noticed!

Anyway, what I love about this wheel is that dogs are allowed! I try to include my dog in as many social outings that he can go on to ensure he has experiences too. When the weather gets colder, it's much harder to find activities he can partake in so I was excited to learn that I didn't have to leave him at home when spending time with my nieces. The four of us purchased tickets at the venue and then headed to the queue. If you have small kids (or a small dog), there is a stroller parking area that you can place your stroller while you ride. It's not secure though so be sure to keep any valuables on your person. The line was short and we ended up with a swing all to ourselves. They are pretty roomy; the previous group had about 7 average sized to bigger sized adults and most of them could fit in one carriage (though not with much room to spare). In the summer this may be okay; the swings are temperature controlled. With the cold weather, I found the temperature to be a bit too warm. Particularly if you dress in many layers as I do, being bundled up in a swing with hot air blowing on you is pretty miserable. To ensure you get your money's worth, the ride is about 5-8 mins I think. You go around at a languid pace about 4x and the last 5th time is the longest as it stops to allow patrons to exit the swing. My dog did pretty well for his first time. He was a little nervous, but with soothing pets and holding him, he calmed down. Perhaps next time I'll bring some treats. He did have a bit of a spell toward the end when he had a birds eye view of people walking. Speaking of, the views from the wheel are quite nice. You can see the National Monument and others from up there. All in all, this is a nice outing! There are a ton of restaurants to eat afterward and around the holidays, they have a market. The latter had nothing of particular interest but it was nice to get out and walk around. While the outdoor space is super dog friendly, the restaurants did not appear to be so. The outdoor patios lacked any heating lamps, and therefore aren't suitable during cold weather. I also couldn't tell if dogs were allowed there. Perhaps your best bet is to have a couple of people and send one in to a fast food spot to bring food to sit near the courtyard (?) where films are shown.

While grabbing a bite to eat at the harbor, I was having a conversation with my friend and I mentioned that I had never been and decided we had to immediately fix that and I must admit I'm glad we did. The staff was friendly and attentive and I enjoyed the beautiful views of D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The total ride was about 15-20 mins (which was all that I needed). Glad I can finally say I've taken a ride on The Capital Wheel.

But Mulberry Lane is a notch above bc not only is it a play cafe but there is staff there to watch your lils while you get to go elsewhere within the building whether that's in the lil tables visibly nearby or in one of their neighboring and partnering restaurants. I'd toootally get my kids memberships if we lived nearby. Since we probably would only go weekends for an hour or two, I'm glad there are the options for one time pay or multi hour passes for future use. Since we weren't sure if we'd be back, we gave it a try for one hour. Prices may change but our first time was $18 per child per hour. This may seem high for only one hour, but my kids had fun and my hour without worrying about them or being interrupted was very productive so it was worth it. Staff are friendly. I only wished they had gluten free options for the kiddos to enjoy after their play. Guess we can bring our own next time! :)

The park has a picnic shelter with picnic tables under it and a grill just outside of it. It has two picnic tables. One of the tables is rectangular and the other is a square table with a checkerboard on it. There is also a couple of picnic tables and a grill in a grassy area in the center of the park's circle. You will also find a nice full basketball court at the park and a nice paved trail passes through it. It is a really nice trail and very peaceful. The highlight of the park though, is its playground. The playground has a rubber mud free floor, which is in great shape. There are benches around the playground's perimeter where parents can sit and watch their little ones. The playground's equipment includes a small jungle gym with slides, a large net climbing structure with a slide. There is also a bank of swings with a toddler swing, An ADA compliant swing, and some traditional swings. This is a very nice park. I didn't know if I would make a special trip to visit, but it is still very nice. I ended up here because I had picked up some food from a carryout joint and needed a place to eat it. The park's picnic shelter was the perfect spot. So, if you are in the area, and looking for a park to visit. I recommend checking this place out.

She and her parents are visiting the D.C. area from out of state, and visiting a toy store was at the top of her list. (We made plans yesterday to spend the afternoon in Old Town partially so we could take her to this toy store.) We weren't greeted when we entered the store, and one of the two employees made no effort to conceal the fact that she was following us around while we browsed various sections of the store, rummaging around pointlessly with items in the exact places where we were looking, but never asking if we needed help at any point during this charade. When I finally couldn't help but ask the employee what was going on, and why she had followed us around so closely but hadn't taken the the trouble to ask if we needed any assistance, the store's owner (or perhaps manager), who might have instructed the employee to closely follow customers she believed might be planning to shoplift, simply frowned at us from behind the counter, and made no effort to apologize. (My brother, I, and my niece were dressed in outfits that I thought looked absolutely perfect for a day shopping in Old Town [I've lived in Alexandria for the past fifteen years], but maybe I was wrong.) There's a toy store and children's clothing boutique approximately one and a half blocks east of Pippin Toys called the Pink & Brown Boutique, where we made several purchases, stopping on the way from Misha's Coffee to our destination of Pippin Toys and being pleasantly surprised by its existence. Both the toy and clothing selections at the Pink & Brown Boutique are impeccably curated, and the store's owner is incredibly friendly and doesn't treat her customers (which every small store needs these days, I'd imagine) like potential shoplifters. She'll continue to receive my family's business in the future, and I won't be visiting Pippin Toys again.
