I stopped by Tugooh Toys the other day, for the first time since my kid was little, and we were quickly welcomed by the woman behind the counter (who I believe is the owner). I have long thought of Tugooh as a great store when looking for high quality toys, including well made wooden toys and gift-worthy stuffed animals. They still have those items, but are keeping up with the times so we were there this weekend because my kid wanted the in squishies. We already knew they were out of Needohs. We learned they had sold the last dumpling minutes before we got to the store--but she told us when they're expecting a shipment and even what time of day is best to arrive to get one. They will also add you to a list to get texts when hot items like Needohs and Dumplings are back in stock. So this makes it a little easier to get that one hot item. read more

This store for children not only overcharges for needohs (squishy toys) but they also require you to buy other items in their store for the amount spent on needohs. For example, if I buy 2 tiny needohs for $30, I must then spend $30 on other store items amounting to a total cost of $60. They also require shoppers to sign up for text messaging and only allow a handful of people in at one time. It feels very uncomfortable and shady. The employees told me they charge more than target because they can and no one else in the city sells them. The store is not only taking advantage of children but they're completely unethical. Why would we support such a greedy business taking advantage of kids? Shame on them!!!! Go to Its Sugar or Paper Source for needohs. read more

HUGE NEEDOH SCAM!!!! SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! I am visiting Georgetown with my two 11 year old granddaughters. Last night around 6:30 we were strolling and saw the window of Tugooh Toys. They had 16 nice ice baby's, 5 regular nice cubes, one tie dyed nice cube, one glow in the dark nice cube, a pizza, a cake, a donut, a ice cream cone, a jellyfish, a popsicle, and a gumdrop.FALSE ADVERTISING! My granddaughters were so excited and couldn't wait to return today after our Mount Vernon tour. During the day we tried to call twice and left messages. Their recording said they would call us back. They never did. They also required us to "join" on a text saying we wouldn't be able to purchasing we were not members. That being said we were still optimistic based on their window inventory and their Instagram advertising. When we arrived all of the needohs were still in the window. We went in and saw no Needohs. We approached the employee asking if there were any. She abruptly said NO and walked away like we annoyed her. The did hav generic brands and other squishies but not the real deal. My heart broke for my granddaughters to have to experience retail at its worst. We asked about the ones in the window. She said we couldn't buy those. I have owned a retail small business for 35 years so I do not write such a bad review lightly. SHAME ON YOU TUGOOH TOYS. WITH THESE PRACTICES YOUR BUSINESS WILL FAIL. read more

The store has about 20 different nee doh's and other squishies in the window yet they say they are out of stock. when I asked why they need so many in the window and why I can't just buy one of them, their response was because it looks nice. The people working were rude, unhelpful, talked back to me as a customer, and basically told me to fuck off. I will NEVER step foot in there again and I HIGHLY suggest you don't either. read more

Refused to accept a return of a toy that oozed after 12 hours. I had the receipt that said return within 7 days but the young kid - who was quickly overruled by the "manager" - said I could've returned it within 24 hours but it was outside that period? They are making up rules and I should've known after they made the young girl in front of me add on a toy in order to pay with cash. Which supports other reviews that they are running a scam "business." Will never return. read more

I wish i could give this toy store 0 stars. I came here with my kids and this chunky curly hair lady was standing at the door like security like we were about to steal. She accidentally pushed me and didn't apologize. Secondly, the toys have no price tags on them. Once you get to the register that's where you find out how much the toys are and they are very very over priced. Save your money and go somewhere else because this place isn't what it is. read more

This store has a predatory purchase policy when it comes to Needohs. In order to buy an overpriced $15 Needoh, customers are required to buy another toy at equal or more value in order to buy the Needoh. I will not support or encourage others to support a business with policies like this, especially when they involve children's toys. read more

They don't advertise the prices of the needohs because they charge double to triple MSRP. My daughter and I were in line for needohs for 2 hours and they would only let one of us purchase 2 and a dumpling. After seeing the prices we paid I'm kind of relieved they didn't allow 2 per person. We will not be back. They also advertised they had the cake and the fuzzball on tiktok and they did not. The service was disappointing. It wasn't made clear at the beginning that you had to purchase another item, that matched the price, to be able to buy a NeeDoh, which made the final price much higher than expected. The entire process felt rushed, and I felt pressured rather than helped. The employees also came across as rude, and I did not feel welcomed during my visit. Good selection but the woman at the front was very rude. Over priced, and their store policy of having to buy something of equal value makes since but when you have to spend at $28 dollars to buy a needoh it's a bit absurd. My daughter went in there and she was checking out they explained this to her, she didn't have enough money, and with many other people around and a very rude women checking her out, she feeling embarrassed and sad because of the rude woman at the front. All of the squishes are over priced and one woman there was very rude but other than that the other staff were nice. i went to this store on multiple occasions and everytime i've been here the workers were very cold and rude. my sister bought squishies, which are overpriced compared to other sellers, and one broke hours after we bought it. i tried to contact the store twice and never got a call or text back. when i went into the store to explain what happened the worker told me they only do exchanges if the squishy breaks in store and there was nothing they could do. they shared how one of their coworkers fixed a with superglue. it seems to be a common theme of their squishies breaking and for the price it's not worth it. spend your money elsewhere. they also make you match what you buy in needohs in other items despite their entire marketing strategy being squishies and needohs. read more

I was pleased to find that several others have reported similar issues with this store regarding their dishonest business practices. The owner of this shop is rude and I was clearly overcharged. They also refuse to provide a receipt. You can certainly find these toys elsewhere reasonably priced and won't be duped into being overcharged. Will report to better business bureau. read more

Whatever you do, do NOT go to this toy store. 0/10. First...they tried to prevent me from bringing my childs STROLLER into a TOY STORE! This is my 3rd time in the store. I had a stroller all 3 times. Today, it was a problem. Second...they make up random rules as they go. Fun fact...last week they made up a rule after we had all been in line in the heat. The rule? For every needoh purchase, you have to buy an equivalent amount in other merchandise. Today, i did not come for needohs. I came for other toys. Signed up for waitlist for pokemon cards after I had visited the shop. I asked for one of each of the bundles (which were marked up in price), but the owner claimed that to buy the bundles which were ($39 each) I had to buy 3 other random card games ($9 each) in order to get them. This is called "tied selling" which I'm pretty sure is illegal. I asked her if I could buy pokemon single packs in replacement of the random cards and she declined. I walked away. It's unfortunate, she even acknowledged I was a new customer and suggested this was a "deal". Please be aware of this place if you are looking to buy pokemon cards. read more

I visited the store today looking for a specific item. The lady working in the morning told me they had it but had to wait for someone to come unpack and stock the item. Ok, fine. I received a text telling me the item was available. I texted back inquiring about the price but did not receive an answer until I called the store back directly. I speak with the "manager" and am told a price. The price was a little marked up but said to hold one for me as I was 20 minutes away. I spend money on a uber to arrive at the store. I purchased a train set toy for my son on June 2,2022. Prior to me purchasing the train set I asked the sales rep "if there is a duplicated purchase or if the train set does not fit in my son bedroom can I return the item." The sales rep stated ," Yes, as,long as you have a receipt you may return your item with a full refund(assuming it was unopened). fast forward to June 20, 2022, there is a sales rep, (who is actually the owners son and apparently assistant manager) who initially proceeded to process my return and tried to tell me they can only provide with a gift card. I told them that was unacceptable because I never opened the toy and the gift card is only available at this ONE STORE. we do not live in Georgetown so having a gift card is also unacceptable.He proceeded to call his mom (but never identified that, the person he was calling was his mother and even attempted to read a sales manager script on how to de-escalate this situation.) After several exchanges with the young man he finally puts me on the phone with the manager(his mom). The lady asked for me to wait at the store for her to come and "investigate the situation ". 20 minutes later, the owner arrives and tells me that she will make an exception even though the return policy is after 7 days & she should only give a gift card. When I refuse to take the gift card as an exchange the son/assistant manager says "mommy I don't like the way he talked to me." The owner then asked for me to return later in the day so that she can investigate wether or not her employee told me that I could return a product with a receipts. I told her that was not possible and I just would like to return the toy that my 3 y.o. Could not use . She told me that she would not give me a refund unless I begged or was more polite to her son. It became both frustrating and embarrassing that I was pleading in front of customers in the store. It was not until I contacted my wife and other customers in the store began recording the altercation that they then provided me with a refund. While doing so, the owner said " we sell toys worth a $1000, we don't need your $200. " I felt offended, embarrassed, and unfortunately marginalized. I typically don't share negative interactions( especially in todays time when the world is upside down), however, this experience is one that no parent or customer should experience. PS. We visited this store a week before Christmas. There were no signs posted outside indicating the opening time but the door was open so we (my husband, young son and I) decided to have a look around. There was another mother and her child browsing the store as well. We were greeted by the shop person and told to ask if we need assistance. Then less than a minute later we were told by the same person that the store does not open until 10am (it was 9:45am) and if we weren't going to buy anything we needed to leave and come back when they were open. We love supporting independent business, even if their prices are usually a little higher. And we actually were considering buying a $130 shopping cart. But after being told to buy something or get out, whilst the other mother and her child happily browsed the store at their leisure, we won't be coming back. read more

I've been looking everywhere for a really good (even just decent) toy store and it seems like I need to keep looking. We were taking a walk to run an errand and stopped in at Tugooh to see what selection they might have. It has a an ok variety of toys but a very limited supply for babies under 1. There aren't many wooden toys which we are always looking for. The place also smelled a bit like sewage, I thought maybe someone made a stinky fart but it never dissipated and then I thought maybe there was a plumbing issue? Anyway, it wasn't pleasant and I was happy to get out of there. I am still searching for a decent toy store (I hate always turning to amazon) but this isn't it. read more

Tugooh Toys is one of the few toy shops in the Georgetown area. It's a small shop off of M Street, but they make good use of the space. They sell stuffed animals of all sizes, games, costumes, etc. My toddler loved visiting because they have a kid doctor's office and a kid's grocery store set up! read more

I arrived at the store to purchase toys as gifts last week and the saleswoman was somewhat curt but I decided on a few items. When the saleswoman was ringing me up she asked me if I wanted the items in one large bag. I told her that was fine. However, she never gave me my receipt. When I asked her for the paper receipt she retrieved it from the trash bin and handed it to me. I saw that she charged me $10 for the unwrapped items that went in the 'one large bag', which was a green shopping bag!! While, I understand that there is a charge for gift wrapping, this was not wrapped. I also understand that there are fees for bags. But, she never told me that there was a $10 fee to put the gifts in a shopping bag!! How can this information be withheld??? This was not an accident or a miscommunication. Biggest mistake of my life. I went there for an interview that I had made over the phone with the manager, who failed to tell me her name. When I went to the store for my interview the next day, she told me to get out. I overheard her yelling at her employee to never tell anyone that she is the manager. To me, this is extremely sketchy. Especially because she has a sign outside telling people that she's hiring for the summer. It just seems really off. My friend also went to have an interview and he got turned away as well. He mentioned that the manager had yelled at her employee yet again. The store is definitely a front for something. If you own a business, people should know your name. fun, educational, eco-friendly. Really stylish toys for aunties and grandparents to spoil their favorite kids with. Much more than children need, but more for the indulgence of parents and relatives to spoil their children (without the children knowing it.) The toys are wooden, natural, of great design, and definitely not the kind that makes you think "Kids these days...." It's the kind of toys that make you think "I wish I had that when I was a kid!" It's a great store, especially if you are super picky when it comes to toys, and have to inspect each toy for hours, before you let the kids touch it!... it really felt like someone has already done that part for me when I saw their selection. They have a great selection of educational toys, you know, the ones that don't need 100 pages of fine print about hazardous small parts, etc. They are located in Georgetown, without any competition within walking/biking/driving distance, and yet, their prices are pretty reasonable. The staff is a totally different story. They all seem to be forced to be there. you have to ask each question 4 times, just to get their attention, and make them pretend they are listening to you! This shop has a decent selection of toys and games for kids. I went in looking for something very specific, and while they didn't have it the nice girl working did help me find the closet thing that had to it. While well stocked, the store did feel a little shabby and dim for a toy store. Prices are fair, especially considering the location (right on the main-ish drag in Georgetown). I do wish it were a bit warmer, and that they carried JellyCat, Angel Dear and GUND items. It's definitely more of a game shop with some stuffed animals, but there seems to be a lack of shops with stuffed animals around DC so they could really fill a void! read more

So while visiting DC we found the one toy store in Georgetown and made a special visit with our daughter.
