You may remember this as the old Barr Lumber palce - it's now Builder's Supply.
Juli D.

When Barr Lumber closed a few years back, there were few options in town to buy hardware. There is another store in town, but they were seldom open (for our needs - we're mostly in town on weekends...) I found this place by accident, when I was across the street visiting the Creative Center during Open Studios. When I saw the new hardware store (this place), I hoped it wasn't a mirage. And it isn't - it's just NEW! I took a photo of their store hours and such since they had just closed, and vowed to come back. Our next opportunity to check the place out happened when our generator blew. Unfortunately, 29 doesn't have any small engine shops left (nor does the entire Morongo Valley, we later learned) but discovering this place was almost as good. Fixing up the bathroom? Filling those drafty leaks? This is a convenient alternative in Twentynine Palms vs. driving all the way to Yucca for those 2-inch screws you need, or fencing, or paint, caulk, tools, or, or ... They're just a great hometown hardware store (and supported by a national chain), with a good selection - and they can even order whatever you need - just ask! And their prices are very competitive. They price check with "that other store" every week. Now we go there first whenever we're missing something for our home improvement projects. They have what we needed, they offered great ideas, and even cut keys there - full-service! I also noticed cards there for local contractors, handymen, people like that. So this could be a great place to ask about local construction and handyman help. So it's a win-win! Save HOURS skipping that trip to Yucca Valley - get your stuff right there in 29! They may close slightly earlier on the weekends / Sundays - so call for hours re the weekends.

Cashier who never covers her nose with the mask, and we've seen her do this every time we've been over the last month, at least 6 times.

The store worker was very helpful and cool. He went above and beyond to get info on what I needed.

Small stock and sometimes employees are a bit surly. Better than Desert Hardware though, those folks are just rude.

Excellent! Highly recommended. I concur with the other review that says, "Chad is my new favorite…read moreperson." I hired American Renovation Service to do a shower rebuild after water got under the tiles. Chad and his crew did an excellent, thorough job checking for/fixing any water damage and retiling, replacing light fixture, changing to linear drain, add grab bars, and beautiful design. He even replaced the glass in the shower window. Chad was so great, I hired him to do a bunch of other work - fixing pool concrete surround, fixing interior/exterior water damage from AC drip, fix stair tiles, bathroom vanity repair, toilet repair, etc. I look forward to hiring ARS/Chad again should any opportunity arise.

Specifically, he worked on the countertops, tile backsplash, and the custom build/installation of our range vent. Chad was incredibly helpful in coordinating the logistics; since this property is in a remote mountain location, we selected our countertop material in San Diego, he handled the sourcing and fabrication in Palm Springs, and then arranged the transport of everything up to the house himself. He is diligent in his attention to detail. The tile backsplash has every line straight, thoughtfully placed, and exactly where it should be. We asked him to come up with a custom build for the vent hood, and after showing him a few inspiration photos from the internet, he matched the vision perfectly. What was really helpful was that he asked questions at every stage to ensure he had our input and didn't assume any decisions. He was patient and professional whenever we were slow to make a few of them. For our project, Chad worked mostly as a one-man operation. This was fine by us, as there was never any guesswork about who would be on-site and he maintained direct accountability for the entire project, start to finish. It's rare to find that combination of technical skill and straightforward, clear communication, and we definitely look forward to working with him again.

I never had to experience mold in my home until I had to replace my dishwasher. I didn't know what to expect but the office walked me through this process & made me feel comfortable. I called Flood Response & they were able to accommodate for work to be done around my work schedule. They were fast, efficient, professional, and honest. I will definitely recommend calling Flood Response. All smiles over here :D

We are snowbirds and were back up north when the flood occurred. Unfortunately we did not read the reviews on this company before hiring them or we never would, but we were in a panic. The first red flag should have been having to sign an open-ended contract with NO ESTIMATE of the cost. We were assured that this would not be an issue as our insurance company would pay and they were experienced in dealing with insurance companies. The second red flag was that the work was completed (but took over two months) and we still hadn't received a cost. Then when we finally got it the insurance company would only pay a portion of it as the costs were double what they should be for the work performed. The insurance company asked Flood Response to justify their bill but they never responded. The third red flag was their communication, or should I say total lack of it. They ignored our requests for any and all information. To make matters worse they convinced us to do the restoration work (this was before the issues came out about the mitigation costs) and assured us that we would not be out of pocket. Well, that was a disaster. They took 5 months to do the work. We have a very small house so this was a long time. Luckily, by this time we were back in Indio (we had to rent for several months) and could be onsite to see what was going on. People were there every day but very little was accomplished and most work was done so sloppily that it had to be redone. Again, their costs were well over industry standards. All they want to do is gouge the homeowner and their insurance company. I could go on and on about this problems we endured with them, but we finally got through the restoration and did have to pay them out of pocket but we did that to just to get rid of them. Then after almost a year from the flood, they said we owed them over $10,000 for the flood mitigation work and put a lien on our home. They will not respond to any calls or emails from us so we sent registered mail that has also not been acknowledged. Now we are going to have to fight them in court. Scott Young will probably respond to this review and say that he doesn't know who we are, as that is what he does for all the negative reviews. But he definitely knows who we are as he was our main project manager.
