Went to this location to buy some smoked paprika after I had to return to another location for a refund after I realized that the smoked paprika I had bought there was not at all smoked. I thought it was maybe a one-off mistake but when I sniff tested the smoked paprika at this location it was the same thing! Not smoked at all, identical in appearance and smell to the regular paprika. I reported this to the employee who was had absolutely zero interest in what I had to say. Very poor customer service, and I also suspect that Bulk Barn is selling only one kind of paprika and putting it in different bins under different names in the hopes that no one notices or knows the difference. read more

Going to shop at Bulk Barn during Covid. We are impressed delighted and grateful! There was a helper to accompany us through the isles. This helper handled all food. She did so with gloves on. At the same time she directed us to the items we would have had difficulty finding. The checkout was a breeze: We did not need to touch the bagged food. It was all done for us,a big smile from the checking and we were on our way! Now this deserves five stars. We are returning with pleasure TONIGHT! read more

I always heart bulk barn. Lately they have been stocking their goods with more and more gluten free and alternative type foods. This new one, i thought would be limited bc of its small location, but I was wrong ! They actually use the space quite efficiently with some bulk items (that I hope they did their homework and are not as commonly needed) above in dispensers rather than big bins on the floor. They also have a refridgerated section (for perishable spreads and things) and a liquid oil/honey dispenser with squirty bottles ! Get these while there is no charge(unless already included in price. I got a full sized honey (340g) for $3.08 and agave (320g) for $3.76. I think in stores would go for at least $5+ As with any bulk barn you can find all sorts of dried food and spices you can dream of including all sorts of pastas, rice, grains, pet food, candy, sugars, cerael, granola, dried fruits etc. Something newI discovered this trip that they carry was Cassava Chips, Plantain Chips, and Soy Flour, Quinoa flour, Avocado Oil, Agave, Grape Seed oil and Cold Pressed Oilve oil. They also sell conventional items non bulk, look for the sales! I also exclusively buy any cake decoarting and baking supplies here (icing tips, icing bags, muffin cups). About $2-3 for a metal tip. Also check your local flyers and the website for weekly coupons you cannot get in store ! The people here are still new,so be patient when he doesnt know the code to your product and help them by identifying all white powerdy things (diff. types of flour in my case) The staff are super friendly and seem hardworking. cant wait to come back. now I can stop going to big carrot for my bulk stuff come here. this might be more dangerous for me than bodyblue next door. read more

I personally don't feel comfortable being in an establishment with someone without a mask solely because of the spread of the virus, especially now. I work in retail part time and only serve customers when I am behind the shield at the register. I dropped in here because i needed change for the street parking on Danforth. First thing I noticed about this shop was how bright and clean the shop looked. Secondly, the staff was very friendly. Thirdly, I would like to say how proud I was of the manager/owner that dealt with a client that was taking about the situation in the US. The manager told the client in a calm and clear tone that he was also an immigrant, and he understood the logic behind the policies,... but, he went on to let the gentleman know that it was the wrong way to go about it. I have a few friends that own Bulk Barns. This is a Canadian Franchise, run by good local people like you and me. Riverdale is a great neighbourhood. Please support these amazing peeps!!! read more

This is a new location! After the one close to me closed, I was curious if one would open up. I'm happy, but the one in the Loblaw was more convenient for me. This one is nice and bright and clean though. No complaints. I like to shop at bulk barn for grains and rice(s). read more

Finally a Bulk Barn in the neighbourhood. This is the best thing that has every happened to the Danforth. The Bulk Barn is the best store around for alot of wonderful items. Please please do not leave us. The one over at shoppers world plaza is just to far away for alot of us, and we love our bulk barn. You and your staff are wonderful read more

I've never been a fan of Bulk Barn, period. I find their prices to be high, and the fact they seem to try to disguise this by selling in 100 gram increments, is unethical and deceiving to the consumer. I've also noticed that most of the products they carry are laden with sugars (and more than one type), and artificial flavourings, colourings, and preservatives. When the new Bulk Barn opened on the Danforth (East of Broadview), I thought I'd check to see if they carried any healthier items, than other locations, seeing as they were in a neighbourhood which is, generally speaking, somewhat more health conscious. Nope. Same items as all other Bulk Barns. Since I was there, I thought I'd try their mixed nuts. Almost seven dollars for a handful of nuts in a plastic bag. Yikes! Well, I bought them, might as well eat them. They tasted very differently than nuts I've been eating all of my life. It seemed to me that they were coated with something. And there was certainly an after-taste. I decided to visit the store again and read the mixed nuts' ingredients. I just assumed they would only contain nuts, and no other ingredients. It was time to investigate. What I learned is that the mixed nuts are coated in vegetable oil. And in fact, all of the Bulk Barn nuts are coated in oils (vegetable, soy, etc.). Wait a minute, I thought to myself, I did not request oil with my nuts. Nuts already come with their own natural oils (nut oils). They do not need extra oils added. This practice only causes these oils to become rancid as they sit in bins, exposed to light and air/ogygen (whenever the bin is opened). So now it's not only the nuts' natural oils which will go rancid, but also these extra oils coating the nuts, as well. That's a lot of oil rancidness to me. And I certainly don't need the extra calories, or desire to ingest the GMO soy, or vegetable (read corn) oil every time I want to eat some nuts. Not to mention the fact that these added oils make the nuts more weighty, and in the end more expensive. Well, so much for my Bulk Barn experience. Very disappointing. :( read more

The owner is rude and otherwise unkind - was told "you aren't getting anything from me" when I raised a valid complaint. The staff will not bother to inform you what purchases cannot be returned when you make them and the return policy is placed in what feels like a purposively deceptive place. Strictly Bulk is a far better store with great staff, better products and WAY better prices. Highly recommend against shopping at this chain in favour of a local business. The bulk section in Healthy Planet as well as the new bulk store Bulk Heaven are also better choices. read more

I used to love Bulk Barn because I am obsessed with roasted almonds and peanuts. Today I purchased some roasted unsalted almonds from this Bulk Barn on the Danforth and when I poured them into a bowl I found a small stone the same colour and size as an almond. If I hadn't noticed it I may have lost a tooth! I called the store and the employee who answered was polite, but clearly deals with these sort of complaints all the time- who knows what goes on at the manufacturing plant, she pretty much said in a nut shell (no pun intended :) This definitely freaks me out. I think I will have to forage for acorns from now on. Joking. But it pisses me off that this is the new low bar standard set by corporations who leave us with less and less options to purchase safe food. read more
