This boat rental company is located and is the marina in Emerald Lake. Friendly ladies helped us with boat info and contracts. The friendly and helpful men guided us away and back on our cool boat! Very professional outfit. Beautiful wooden furniture waiting area. Friendly owners dog. There is a well stocked provisions store. Beer, clothing, ice, drinks, ice cream and CARP FOOD! There is complimentary fish food for the big mouthed large dark gray carps that wait open mouthed for their treats. They hang around right outside the store, right outside in the water! Had an exhilarating time and marvelous experience.

My in laws have a vacation home near by here. Threw the years we've rented small boats from emerald cove marina. Always a great and easy experience. Reservations and check in process all flow well. We rented a sweet water patio boat for Fathers Day 2021 and had a picture perfect day out on the water. Lance checked us in and out. Easy process, clear instructions and overall great customer service.

Such a beautiful wonderful lake. The water and all of then surrounding area is just so peaceful and breathtaking.

I will never rent this boat The Emerald again! Nothing works. The AC sputters and turns off and when it is 90 degrees out

This boat cost $10,000.00 for the 7 days and nothing worked. We have rented this boat twice in the last 2 years. The AC never worked. It was terrible. The oven and the stove was so hot and stunk like gas. The boat is junk. I guess I will stay at the Four Seasons next year.

Its okay. dark day campground 2d Yes lots of mosquitos even saw a scorpion did not see bears but went on loud 4 th july weekend they probably stayed away bathrooms are porto potty type with deep vault toilets that smell like death beach access is small but there is one sandy beach to walk down to luckily we had a boat so made the weekend fun other then that it was ok if you have a boat its worth it I guess OH- the thing I hated about our double site is you cant park in your site. literally tent only blocked off by wooden planks you have to drag all your camping stuff down to the site so dont plan on bringing a camper or a truck tent other wise you will sleep in the parking lot like some of our group had to this is why I give 3 stars. if you can park in site would have given 5.

I don't enjoy the winding drive, but the minute I hit the water it's all worth it. The water is warm and it reflects every shade of green from the surrounding trees. I love it. I just went out for the first time this season, and the reservoir is high but be on the lookout for floating logs and tree limbs in the water.

If you like real camping.. this is the perfect place to start. I for one, love glamping so it was a bit much but it is a must do! This place looks like paradise, the water is beautiful and the scenery is breathtaking. We camped in Dark Day 1D-3D with a large group with kids. It's about 4 miles from the Emerald Cove. We arrived at 2pm and met Meghan and her awesome crew. They were so nice, informative and great with the kids. They definitely set the tone for the whole trip. We saw them daily, especially Meghan, who always was there to help with any questions and advice. Each site had 2 picnic table with benches (bring your own table clothes), 2 bear lockers and space for large tent (we have a 3 room tent that connects) Also one vault toilet and filtered water pump(no hose connection) for the whole site to share. The nearest shop/gas station is a bit away and expensive fyi. One really wise advice was really use the bear lockers. Leave no food out and always lock them up and take the keys out, the bears are smart. We left our coolers in the van. We did encounter the 3 hungry bears but no food was left out for them by us, they did rummage through the large garbage bin provided by the camp. Trash pick up is Monday, we arrived on Sunday so we were lucky to be able to have an empty bin for the week. Trust me, no hacksaw or knifes we had made me feel safe (I had anxiety every evening) but the bears did move on. All food and paper items were burned in our fire to minimize bear rummaging. It's not much of a hike down to the water per say but it is a dangerous 200-50 foot slope to get to the water, no matter what trail you take. So wear good shoes(I broke 2 rubber flip flops) down and bring water shoes for the sharp rocks. We back packed and brought our camping wagon to carry everything. It was pretty empty as far as people for us, we loved that. We popped up an easy tent and picnic tent, threw down blankets and put up camping chairs right up against the water. Btw, they have chopped up wood everywhere and we just picked it up when we walked and used it for our fire pits. We enjoyed the company, and the beauty ...we missed having a real toilet, electricity and a shower. We had no phone reception either, it was nice to unplug. The vault is kinda like a porta-potty but the crew keeps it clean daily. We did bring our own DIY (bucket, $1 store noodle, cat litter and trash bag) toilet for the night and quick pee. Nothing to wash up, so make your own washing station with water cooler, hand soap and paper towles(which you can burn up in your fire) Bring powder for around your tent for the monster ants, however, the indestructible flys, yellow jackets, spiders and mosquitoes... no bug spray, fly trap, yellow jacket bag, lavendar spray, or mosquito light gets rid of them but a netted tent around the picnic table helped. For some of the unlucky ones(almost half of us) ..Calamine lotion and sage water will be your best friend after day one. We carried a fly swatter to get'em if they made it in lol. We did find fat juicy ticks, but none on us.... So I guess they ate and moved on. As we packed up and was getting ready for our 2 pm check out, it was bittersweet but we were ready to get back to reality and of course, a shower.

Spiders, man. Lots of 'em. I'm not sure if it's just that we were there when all hell broke loose or if it's a usual thing, but the spiders were alive and kicking' and goddamn everywhere. We'd go to sleep at night having rid our cooler area of webs and colonies only to wake up the next morning with a friggin' Marine Corp level impenetrable canvas of webbing covering everything once again. The more high-maintenance folks in our group were shrieking (yeah, the dudes too). It was a nice menagerie of species too, all of them jumped, all of them looked menacing, but none were poisonous and no one in my party came home with bite marks. But still...spiders, man. Other than that, this watering hole is great! Warm water, generally calm, very picturesque, and seems to be a fabulous fishing spot. Get here early on the weekend if you want a place to camp that isn't on a 30+ degree slope. With the drought as bad as it is, the water line is down ....WAY down. Bring drinking water and umbrellas/shade tents, there's zero natural shade near the water. And binocs, Bald Eagles have taken up residence in the area..... so cool.

Doesn't get any better than this!

Our family loves Bullards Bar!!! Every summer we come up for boat in camping and never want to leave. The water is always clean and beautiful and it's always fun cruising around the lake to find a spot to camp. The lake has a nice atmosphere and is family friendly, which is great since our son is four. Whether we are just relaxing on shore or out on the boat exploring the lake, we are always having a great time! The marina is great too! They always have what we need, and the girls who work there are very friendly. Last summer we rented the MB sport and a pontoon for the weekend. After we had everything loaded up, someone came up to inform us that the pontoon had been double booked, instead of shorting us, the let us take out the party cruiser for the weekend instead and for the price of a pontoon. This party cruiser was amazing!!! It had a BBQ, toilet, stove and a patio on top!!! Bullards Bar has always treated us great! We leave with smiles on our faces and tons of great memories!!! Can't wait to see what summer of 2014 brings!

    Beautiful!

Loved this place! Not too far from Sacramento, but far enough to feel like we were nowhere near "home"! Campgrounds were clean & camping fee's were fair. The staff drove around the camping areas regularly and they were always polite and smiling! They were happy to answer any questions we had also! Bullards Bar is gorgeous! The dam is spectacular! The lake is beautiful and wonderful to swim in! This is my favorite place to camp! We all had a blast and will be back again soon!

Yes. Must be kept on leash in campgrounds and day use areas.

Owned and operated by PG&E Getting There (the hard part): It's a good 30-40 minute drive north of Hwy 20 up Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18) to where it splits off to Forest Road 17. From there you will see a giant log with "CARR" spray painted in white with an arrow to the right (pretty awesome, I know). Now you're in for three miles of rocky dirt road... and I mean rough. A road full of rocks ranging from the size of grapefruits to dodge balls... so take is slow and steady. I will warn all sedans or low-clearance vehicles to be extremely careful. I saw many cars bottoming out (a mini cooper and prius among them). Towards the top of the road, you'll need to navigate around some big boulder-like rocks embedded in the road. Here is where most low-clearance vehicles gave up, pulled to the side and decided to walk the rest of the way. I have a two-wheel drive Honda CRV. I decided to give it a whirl and made it up to the parking lot by some miracle. Entry to the Campground: Surprisingly the parking lot was already packed at 4:30pm on a Friday! Who are all these people brave enough to make it up that road? I was impressed. I wasn't quite sure what to expect campsite wise considering it was 4th of July weekend and I was hoping to snag one of the first come, first served sites. I wasn't too optimistic, but I threw on my backpack and decided to take a look around. You want to head to the top of the trail (i.e. the road barricade). There you will see a wood bulletin board of sorts with the campsite rules and a place to leave your nightly fee ($15). You put your cash/check in an envelope and tear off the receipt at the bottom. Put the envelope in the slot on the green post and take the receipt to your campsite of choice. Clip it under your campsite number and voila! Note: The PG&E people are checking to make sure you've done this word to wise, but I have no idea if and how they would "cite" you if you didn't pay. It's kind of the honor system. Surveying the Campsites Right after you walk past the bulletin board there are a number of campsites up off to the right. Some of them were already taken by the time I got there, so I walked on down the road, but I heard from some other seasoned campers that one of the first campsites was one of the best out of the eleven. I continued down the road and saw some absolutely stunning ones! I was thrilled to see a few were empty and available. On 4th of July weekend!! I couldn't believe my luck! After I checked out all the real estate I decided on my beauty, campsite number 8... I think? Can't remember exactly. Also recommended is the very last campsite past the bathrooms (farthest from the parking lot). Totally spectacular lake view. I was jealous. Most of the campsites do not have lake access. You're behind some seriously thick brush with no paths to the lake, but I believe the campsites at the very beginning and the very end do have lake access. Something to keep in mind. Not a deal breaker at all though considering Feeley Lake is just a hop skip and jump up the road and even MORE beautiful! :) The bathrooms are clean, although to get there you have to cross part of a river... a stream really, but might be hard to do in the middle of the night unless you have one of the campsites nearest to the bathrooms. Think hopping from stone to stone or just wading through up to your ankles. The campsites grew fairly crowded as the day went on but I observed there were still two or three out of the eleven campsites that were unoccupied throughout the weekend (I was there Fri-Sun). The crowd level was just enough to feel safe and not too much so that you felt it was cramping your solitude time. If you do end up campsite-less for some unfortunate reason, disperse camping is allowed and I saw a ton of people do it along the Round Lake Trail and Crooked Lakes Trail. This is something I will do next time for sure, as the scenery gets even more spectacular the father down the trail you go, espectially up towards Penner Lake. I will definitely be back here as it is one of my new favorite spots in the Tahoe National Forest. I hope this is helpful! :)

On a recent mild sunny winter weekend afternoon, I visited the Halsey Forebay fishing access area…read more It's a water reservoir that's occasionally stocked with trout and crawfish. It's managed by PG&E. The reservoir is a lake with shallow rocky edges. It's just for casting fishing, no humans or animals should go into the water. The access and parking is FREE. And as always, anglers 16 and older need a CA fishing license to fish. I didn't fish here. I looked about and soaked in the sights though. It was rusticly beautiful. However the perimeter doesn't have any shade trees. But vibes were super quiet, I call it library fishing. Shhhh. As I walked about the perimeter of the lake, I noticed folks were quiet even amongst their own groups. Even the elementary school age children there were super quiet. An incredible feat. QuietPlace. And about the fishing situation, not much luck with the anglers that day. Stock was low. Near the parking lot is a short concrete pier with fishing rod holders. This is closest to the water shed. The picnic area is across the watershed. To get to the area from the parking lot, you will have to walk, on a narrow steel grate walkway, over the watershed. The rushing water provides for a dizzying visual effect. The picnic area is set back enough from the lake so if you bring the kiddos, this is the area where they can go about hooting n hollering. The area has 3-4 concrete picnic tables and a several bbq pits. It's first come, first serve. This area is not paved, dirt packed; shaded with big growth trees. Plus let me tell you I learned the hard way that the walking path doesn't connect fully around the lake. I don't recommend attempting the mythical loop. The path is mostly gravel with the other parts being dirt. Watch where you step; there was a lot of poop along the trail. There is a stretch of the path that ends and funnels you out to the narrow bike lane on Christian Valley Road near Bancroft Road. There is no adjacent room to the side of the bike lane, only a chain link fence. Cars are going 50plus miles a hour inches away from you; and they are on a curve. So wait until traffic clears for a significant distance to hightail yourself across that stretch which runs about 50 feet. Don't try to walk with cars coming at you; don't risk getting impaled by a side view mirror or worse. There is a paved parking lot and a public restrooms with vault toilets. Sorry ladies, I can't provide any additional info about the restrooms. As always, I try my best to avoid public park restrooms. But at least they have a restrooms. And to add the landscape of area doesn't provide for any natural discrete spots to answer the call of nature.

You can pull in and park in a parking space where it leads right up some picnic benches. Just beyond that, a l is a fence with holders for your pole. About 10-12 of them lined up. If you are fishing here, this is where having a 2nd and 3rd pole comes in handy - just be sure to get your license for that!! The water current starts off strong over here and, depending on what you are using, could float downward towards our into the next person's line, so use wisely! Figure it out! On this cool evening, we were catching them left and right. Everyone fishing here is so friendly. It's fun to meet people and see what they're using. When the sun goes down, and most of the heat goes away, Halsey Forebay becomes a sight for sore eyes... as I said... so gorgeous
