great fire pit and grill cover rustic cabin 10
    Becca H.

Great Rustic cabin- 10 - slept great - sleeps 6 easy! concrete floors - great wood beds- sheets on beds too power outlet and a light and fan -outlets is 30v to power a little fan- charge stuff bring an electric kettle - BBQ and fire pit and spiket right at the sight- showers are coin showers some of the bathrooms are out of order in july 2023 and are porta potty's- The Lake isn't easy walking distance- It's a serious hiking distance- we drove 5min and blew up the gear- or pack a truck up and pack it in and out- from the truck to lake- it's an easy grab and go! bring life jackets- and since there are NO motorized boats it's a great spot to SUP- swim/fish lots of hills- at the camp grounds-leave the scooters and bikes at home for little's- it's paved- but for those little's there is lots of gravel on the pavement which causes a major skid out The cabins are hot but cool off- Sleeping bag and a blanket are great in July. 70degrees by 9pm. the fire pits and BBQ are different at each site- these pics are rustic site 10 TOP BUNKS- Do NOT have bunk railings- so plan accordingly bundle $5! general store is priced well. plenty of great trees for a hammock- slack line- clothes line - The camp hosts a foster kid camp a few weeks out of the summer- which is incredible- non profit and it's separated from the family sites- so the kids are not playing with each other - the little town general store and pool and pool room area is a drive down the road- from what the map looks like it's way more spread out then I expected.... which is great- and surprising! Happy Camping. I hope this helps!

We stayed her over the Thanksgiving weekend. It left a lot to be desired. We got a deluxe cabin. The cabin was OK. The pots and pans were disgusting, so we didnt use them. The electricity went out in the middle of the night and came back at around 7am. The pool was closed, ice cream shop was closed. The lake was half dried out. So much unused potential.

We love going to Bullards bar but we were kind of over staying at the schoolhouse campground so we decided to stay here this year. We were lucky and booked late but still got a spot! The campground is pretty large and they do an excellent job at keeping everything clean. Especially the bathrooms and showers. They have a cute little area where there is a killer ice cream and coffee shop. We didn't try the coffee but the ice cream sundae will not disappoint! There were deer everywhere which is always fun to watch. Overall we will definitely be back. The only reason for four stars is because they had a church group doing music in the theatre area and it would have been nice if they had an event that everyone could be comfortable attending.

We stayed at tent site A85 and I wouldn't stay at any other site if tent camping. It was flat, spacious, had a water spigot, trees for the hammock and was close to two bathrooms (a single no shower and the upper large bathrooms all with private showers). The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. We loved this site because it was super private - there were only three other sites next to it and it was also directly in front of the walking trail to the lake (about 200 yards walk). Just be aware the yellow jackets are aggressive! We went to the pool in the morning (also really clean and nice) and the lake in the afternoon. It was a good lake for swimming/floating. The ice cream at the creamery was delicious. We look forward to returning!

3 stars for the lake. Camped here for the first time 7/11-7/13. Saw this campground on a Facebook camping group and thought to try it out. The campsites are very small and on top of each other. We were lucky to not have neighbors. If we did, it would have been very uncomfortable. It was blazing hot every day with minimal shade in the grounds. The lake was a life saver but you had to drive to it. They had walking trails, but in 90-100 degree heat no thanks! They had a general store, pool, arcade, rock climbing on property but they were all used by the resorts summer camp. This resort has a kids summer camp program called Rockin U. Bathrooms were good as they were real toilets, but the shower situation was not. No warm water in any of the showers and the streams coming out of the shower heads was literally a trickle. The nice part about our tent site was that it had electricity and water, but I definitely don't think I would ever camp there again.

We stayed here for a weekend getaway with our 3 kids, ages 5, 4 and 9 months. It is a beautiful area and having a nice clean cabin with a bathroom and amenities is a lifesaver with little ones! The lake is beautiful and perfect for swimming kayaking etc. The resort area with the creamery, resteraunt, pool and arcade area was also a big hit for the kiddos (and mom and dad too!) On the second day our 4 year took quite the spill on the cement and was crying asking to go home. When one of the gals In the office heard what happened she brought my kiddos swag bags full of fun treats, she really made their day!! We will be coming back annually! The perfect family camping resort thank you!

Lake Francis was a nice place to get away and camp for the weekend. They have tent sites, rustic cabins, and deluxe cabins for those who prefer glamping. Staff were friendly, but really strict when it came to how many people are in the cabin. A max of 6 people allowed in our cabin, but we can see it clearly can sleep 8. They tried selling us another site when we had one extra person in our cabin, it made no sense. Meh :/ I luckily convinced them that we would not get another site, and this would be only time we go over 6 peeps in our cabin. They were very serious about the 6 people per cabin! Our cabin and site area was clean and spacious. Prices aren't too bad, given you have access to the lake, village, and recreational activities. I really like the ice cream shop they have. I also liked the kayak rentals available. A bonus is, No motor boats on the lake.

The lake is awesome! Be sure to bring a sun shade.

Ask the Community - Lake Francis Resort

Are you guys open June 5 because its my birthday?

    Yes

Are there snakes? I'm considering buying a venom extraction kit for our trip.

Yes, snakes are very popular in the area I live about a 5 minute drive away, but in recreational parks they are usually very scarce. Just keep a good eye out, especially with kids and your pets!

Has anyone come across problems with mosquitos?

Mosquitos are a pretty big annoyance around these parts, but with a good bug spray you should be fine

Some of the spots in the front had lake access. The spots in the back have a lake view. You can still access the lake from the spots in the back, but its a pretty steep decent. The spots in the middle do not have lake access but some are pretty private and have lots of shade. Spot 8 has the most privacy and a good amount of distance from the neighbors. Spot 8 is also by a creek. This drowned out the noise other campers made in the evening. Carr Lake was very pretty. However, the main event is Feely lake. Access to Feely lake is between Spot 8 and 9. It's a larger lake with stunning views. A lot of backpackers were heading to Island Lake which is about a mile from the Carr Lake Campground. Due to the Covid related closures around the state, more people than usual are heading to the outdoors. This meant that this usually secluded area was not packed with day hikers and backpackers. The parking lot was at capacity by mid day Friday and people had to park on the side of the road as far as a half a mile away. I recommend that you stake your claim as early as Thursday or very early Friday.

Owned and operated by PG&E Getting There (the hard part): It's a good 30-40 minute drive north of Hwy 20 up Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18) to where it splits off to Forest Road 17. From there you will see a giant log with "CARR" spray painted in white with an arrow to the right (pretty awesome, I know). Now you're in for three miles of rocky dirt road... and I mean rough. A road full of rocks ranging from the size of grapefruits to dodge balls... so take is slow and steady. I will warn all sedans or low-clearance vehicles to be extremely careful. I saw many cars bottoming out (a mini cooper and prius among them). Towards the top of the road, you'll need to navigate around some big boulder-like rocks embedded in the road. Here is where most low-clearance vehicles gave up, pulled to the side and decided to walk the rest of the way. I have a two-wheel drive Honda CRV. I decided to give it a whirl and made it up to the parking lot by some miracle. Entry to the Campground: Surprisingly the parking lot was already packed at 4:30pm on a Friday! Who are all these people brave enough to make it up that road? I was impressed. I wasn't quite sure what to expect campsite wise considering it was 4th of July weekend and I was hoping to snag one of the first come, first served sites. I wasn't too optimistic, but I threw on my backpack and decided to take a look around. You want to head to the top of the trail (i.e. the road barricade). There you will see a wood bulletin board of sorts with the campsite rules and a place to leave your nightly fee ($15). You put your cash/check in an envelope and tear off the receipt at the bottom. Put the envelope in the slot on the green post and take the receipt to your campsite of choice. Clip it under your campsite number and voila! Note: The PG&E people are checking to make sure you've done this word to wise, but I have no idea if and how they would "cite" you if you didn't pay. It's kind of the honor system. Surveying the Campsites Right after you walk past the bulletin board there are a number of campsites up off to the right. Some of them were already taken by the time I got there, so I walked on down the road, but I heard from some other seasoned campers that one of the first campsites was one of the best out of the eleven. I continued down the road and saw some absolutely stunning ones! I was thrilled to see a few were empty and available. On 4th of July weekend!! I couldn't believe my luck! After I checked out all the real estate I decided on my beauty, campsite number 8... I think? Can't remember exactly. Also recommended is the very last campsite past the bathrooms (farthest from the parking lot). Totally spectacular lake view. I was jealous. Most of the campsites do not have lake access. You're behind some seriously thick brush with no paths to the lake, but I believe the campsites at the very beginning and the very end do have lake access. Something to keep in mind. Not a deal breaker at all though considering Feeley Lake is just a hop skip and jump up the road and even MORE beautiful! :) The bathrooms are clean, although to get there you have to cross part of a river... a stream really, but might be hard to do in the middle of the night unless you have one of the campsites nearest to the bathrooms. Think hopping from stone to stone or just wading through up to your ankles. The campsites grew fairly crowded as the day went on but I observed there were still two or three out of the eleven campsites that were unoccupied throughout the weekend (I was there Fri-Sun). The crowd level was just enough to feel safe and not too much so that you felt it was cramping your solitude time. If you do end up campsite-less for some unfortunate reason, disperse camping is allowed and I saw a ton of people do it along the Round Lake Trail and Crooked Lakes Trail. This is something I will do next time for sure, as the scenery gets even more spectacular the father down the trail you go, espectially up towards Penner Lake. I will definitely be back here as it is one of my new favorite spots in the Tahoe National Forest. I hope this is helpful! :)

On a recent mild sunny winter weekend afternoon, I visited the Halsey Forebay fishing access area…read more It's a water reservoir that's occasionally stocked with trout and crawfish. It's managed by PG&E. The reservoir is a lake with shallow rocky edges. It's just for casting fishing, no humans or animals should go into the water. The access and parking is FREE. And as always, anglers 16 and older need a CA fishing license to fish. I didn't fish here. I looked about and soaked in the sights though. It was rusticly beautiful. However the perimeter doesn't have any shade trees. But vibes were super quiet, I call it library fishing. Shhhh. As I walked about the perimeter of the lake, I noticed folks were quiet even amongst their own groups. Even the elementary school age children there were super quiet. An incredible feat. QuietPlace. And about the fishing situation, not much luck with the anglers that day. Stock was low. Near the parking lot is a short concrete pier with fishing rod holders. This is closest to the water shed. The picnic area is across the watershed. To get to the area from the parking lot, you will have to walk, on a narrow steel grate walkway, over the watershed. The rushing water provides for a dizzying visual effect. The picnic area is set back enough from the lake so if you bring the kiddos, this is the area where they can go about hooting n hollering. The area has 3-4 concrete picnic tables and a several bbq pits. It's first come, first serve. This area is not paved, dirt packed; shaded with big growth trees. Plus let me tell you I learned the hard way that the walking path doesn't connect fully around the lake. I don't recommend attempting the mythical loop. The path is mostly gravel with the other parts being dirt. Watch where you step; there was a lot of poop along the trail. There is a stretch of the path that ends and funnels you out to the narrow bike lane on Christian Valley Road near Bancroft Road. There is no adjacent room to the side of the bike lane, only a chain link fence. Cars are going 50plus miles a hour inches away from you; and they are on a curve. So wait until traffic clears for a significant distance to hightail yourself across that stretch which runs about 50 feet. Don't try to walk with cars coming at you; don't risk getting impaled by a side view mirror or worse. There is a paved parking lot and a public restrooms with vault toilets. Sorry ladies, I can't provide any additional info about the restrooms. As always, I try my best to avoid public park restrooms. But at least they have a restrooms. And to add the landscape of area doesn't provide for any natural discrete spots to answer the call of nature.

You can pull in and park in a parking space where it leads right up some picnic benches. Just beyond that, a l is a fence with holders for your pole. About 10-12 of them lined up. If you are fishing here, this is where having a 2nd and 3rd pole comes in handy - just be sure to get your license for that!! The water current starts off strong over here and, depending on what you are using, could float downward towards our into the next person's line, so use wisely! Figure it out! On this cool evening, we were catching them left and right. Everyone fishing here is so friendly. It's fun to meet people and see what they're using. When the sun goes down, and most of the heat goes away, Halsey Forebay becomes a sight for sore eyes... as I said... so gorgeous
