We rented a water ski/wakeboard speed boat from Crystal Springs Adventures (also known as Rollins Lake Boat Rentals) and it was a terrific experience! We made reservations in advance and the instructions provided were clear and accurate. Jenn, the owner, and her daughter were very friendly, welcoming, prepared and informative to help us get oriented and make sure we were careful in driving and docking the boat. They provided a map that made it clear which areas to avoid. They also had all we needed to ski: life jackets, skis, rope, waterproof Bluetooth speaker, and a portable battery charger in case our phone needed more juice. The boat and equipment were well-maintained and clean; and the staff wore masks, so it felt COVID-safe. Because we went on a Monday, the lake was calm and peaceful. The trees surrounding the lake are beautiful, especially since there are no homes on it. The entire day was amazing, even with the wind picking up and more boats pulling tubes in the afternoon. We heard that the weekends are very busy and that they limit the number of cars in the parking lot, so try to go on a weekday, if you can. The company is under new management, so disregard the old posts that gave lower ratings. The new management is terrific - and you will have a great time! We were able to rent both a double kayak and to stand up paddle boards on the same day. We showed up to the office and there were two ladies working, I think Tammi and Tracy. They were both friendly and helpful and accommodated our last minute timing. Even though the kayaks and boards are on the older side and need some maintenance, I'm giving it five stars because the service was great and they rearrange their schedule to stay later for our timing. It is easy to launch both the kayaks and the stand up paddle is from the dark. And the lake was gorgeous, flat and it was a beautiful sunny day. This was our first time at Rollins Lake and we may have found a new family spot. We arranged a 3 day ski boat rental for our time there. Jen and the rest of the staff were absolutely wonderful. The boat was well maintained and clean. We had our own boards but rented a tube for the 3 days. The tubes were also well maintained and clean. Since the tubes are so big, the staff held on to them for us until we were ready each day. They were very communicative and prompt when it came time to pick them up. They arranged a slip rental for us as well so that we could use the boat at our leisure for our time there. The staff was polite, courteous and easy to talk to. Seriously the rudest people we have met running a business. We were constantly being yelled and screamed at by the 2 guys. The woman was very argumentative. They accused us of stealing 2 kids life jackets but we didn't have any kids life jackets to begin with. They put a rev limiter on the pontoon boat so you can't go more then about 10 miles per hour. Not allowed to pull a tube behind the boat. Took forever to get anywhere on the lake because the boat was so slow. You can only use their dock so you couldn't even stop at any of the beaches. If you do want to rent a boat go to the Green horn camp ground. We wound up there after we returned the boat. The guy there was great and was friendly to everyone at the boat rental (we had our picnic next to the boat shack). read more

This review is long overdue. We rented a pontoon boat and a tube, last July. The staff were very accommodating and followed all Covid procedures. The boat was new and they took the time to go over all of the features and safety procedures. This was our first time at Rollins Lake and it was perfect, not very crowded and enough space to be comfortable with kids on tubes. I highly recommend this location and the boat rental. Wonderful Customer Service, smooth Rental Agreement completion and great communication with us before, during and after the rental. We started the planning about a week before yesterday's 1/2 day rental of Boat # 1, the Bennington Pontoon Boat. By starting early, we were able to determine the right size and type of boat for our group of six. Additionally, the Rollins Lake Boat Rental Company publishes online on the Web, their conditions of rental and the Rollins Lake Boat Safety regulations and additionally supports a great website! Before we embarked, we participated in a out of water and in water visual inspection of the boat. The process is very similar to renting and pre-inspecting a car from any national agency. Staff explained use of the onboard anchor, provided all dock tie lines and bumpers. Electric motor key start and on-board safety equipment including life jackets were provided. Hat's off to Ashley and the dock ambassadors who helped us load/off-load our fishing gear, coolers, towels and thoroughly showed us on-board safety equipment. Before we left the dock they even showed us a Rollins lake map that we took a picture of and where to go to find fish and avoid low water areas of the lake. This is in response to Tera L. I'm not exactly sure about your review. I've looked you up and you've never been a customer of ours so I don't believe you can find us "unprofessional, unkind, and untrustworthy". I do remember seeing you on the launch and witnessing another boater and a local employee ask you to not park or block the handicapped parking space several times. There was yelling to which I believe was directed at you because you either did not hear them or were ignoring their remarks. The other thing I'd like to point out is that Jenn was not here that day, so again, I'm not sure how you can justify this review. If you choose to write any future Yelp reviews for other businesses, it might be helpful if you were actually a customer and try to refrain from words such as "abhorrent, untrustworthy, or threatening". These are false accusations and are detrimental even if you're just blowing off steam. read more

Our family has been coming to Rollins every summer. This rental company opened up here a couple of years ago. Every time we see the owner at the boat dock, he's yelling and belittling his customers publicly. It sets a negative tone at the docks and makes it uncomfortable for everyone, especially children. When you come to the lake, you're looking to enjoy your time... not argue with a guy you're trying to rent a boat from; he treats everyone around him like they're idiots. I would not recommend this rental company to anybody. I encourage you to rent your boat elsewhere; you might save some money, too. read more

We rented a boat Saterday (yes SatErday- no day of the week should have the word turd in it so I changed it) We rented a boat- and got this amazing experience of fun, relaxing, tubing, swimming, falling off the tube, walrussing back on. This is a family run business. Mom and dad and their two kids. Their boats are all decent and the one I rented was in good working order although the seats were worn and tattered, typical rental. The reason for 2 stars was because of the service I received. I had been planning a camping trip with 4 of my childhood buddies and we were really looking forward to a day of water skiing, wake boarding and fishing. First off they told me I couldn't bring my fishing poles because they didn't want my hooks getting caught in their already ripped up seats or in the prop. Like I'd be that careless but nonetheless, no fishing. Then the man of the business started showing my friend and I ( we were the two on the contract) all the details of the boat. And this was fine until he started being extremely condescending to the two of us. He was talking to us like we were kids and out to destroy his $10k rental boat. Started telling us we'd be out a lot of money if we did this or that. I wanted to get out on the water and just let him harp but it left me with a very bad impression. we spent several hours on the lake and some of us can't ski or wake board so I called him later as I wanted to trade the skis I rented for a tube so we could all have some fun for the last couple hours we had. He starts out by saying, "I don't know what you guys are doing out there but my boat better be ok." I reassured him it was fine and we were having fun but wouldn't swap the ski for the tube, completely unfriendly and rude. He even tried getting me to come in an hour early. I didn't. At the end the day, I mentioned the experience to his wife who was very nice and understanding, she apologized But I felt that he should know and hear it directly from me. So I pulled him aside from what he was doing and told him How I felt. He didn't care. He was rude and just brushed it off. That said, he's attitude from the beginning really had an affect or our fun in the water. I was nervous about the boat the whole day as I knew he'd look for anything to keep part or all of my deposit. Nothing happened to his boat of course. All in, I spent $600 with them and didn't even get to go fishing. they required an $800 deposit. 400 in cash and 400 in check. They also charged me an additional $26 for using my credit card to pay. I would never rent a boat from this place again or recommend it to anyone I know. read more

I just got off the phone with the same woman whose voice is on the outgoing message, so I am assuming she is the owner or manager. I was trying to inquire about renting a boat for this Sunday, but since I couldn't get a word in edgewise as she interrupted me multiple times, it was nearly impossible to communicate. I also tried to inquire about how much boating experience was required for each of the rentals, and she just shut me down and said "No, no, you need to go drive someone's boat and get two years' experience", then hung up. When talking with the polite lady something didn't add up so I mentioned the bad reviews she said they had just taken it over and are working on making it a great business. It was great, they were helpful, interested in us and we had a great experience renting a kayak and paddling around and swimming. Had family from out of state, and the coolers filled and ready to go when we got a call from the owner. This was less than an hour before we were scheduled to get on the boat. She wasn't even very apologetic - in fact, she was rude! Told us the tow truck broke down and she had no way to get the boat in the water. I asked if she didn't have a back-up for a situation like that, and she said no. Told me she couldn't predict the future! Went to the rental place on Rollins Road and found it closed. Because of the Nevada County fair, I don't think she had much business for that day, and decided not to open. Don't waste your time on this place!! read more
