Wow what a shop! Bulletproof comics has been a staple in community for more than 30 years. This shop provided a respite for those that wanted a getaway from the Gang torn neighborhoods in the 90's. Fastforward to today not only is bulletproof ushering in a new crop of Comics, Manga and tcg collectors. Hank has singlehandedly cultivated some of the biggest comic events to date in Brooklyn. FRANK MILLER, yes the Frank Miller came to Brooklyn and had a signing. Hank has had celebrities from "The Flatbush Zombies" to Rob Markman, Comic Royalty such as Joe Illidge also frequent the shop. Not to mention Hank had adapted with the times. Video Games, Retro Games, Skateboards to Manga. Now High end Lithos and paintings. ALL while providing quality service. Ordered and paid for CGC comics to be signed by Dell'Otto almost two YEARS ago and was given the run around for over a year. Then I asked to see the CGC submission numbers on multiple occasions to verify when they were actually submitted (as it's physically impossible for them to have been submitted when owner Hank Kwon said they were), then was given vague responses (to give them more opportunities for delay) and now I've faced months of silence, despite follow up. Truly inexcusable when their owner is online on Facebook a dozen hours a day. Yes, Hank, we can tell. Sadly, I'm now suing the store in small claims court. It used to be a much better store, which is why I trusted them in the first place. I know for a fact there are other customers in the same situation. It's just shameful for a business to not be honest with its customers and then stop communicating entirely. Bottom line: Take your business elsewhere, there's plenty of options these days, they're very unprofessional and clearly engage in dishonest business practices. Who has to sue a comic book store!? I would not waste my time with this comic shop with some skateboards added in a dusty back room. I went in there to see if they had any ideas for my young daughter who recently started skating. The young man who was there tried to help me, talking to me about how to instruct her and letting me know they have classes there. Then the owner, I assume so, a middle aged Asian man, interrupted to tell the kid how to set up. I said excuse me to him to let him know his worker was trying to help me and he walked away. Two minutes later, the kid is telling me about the classes when the owner interrupts again and tells the kid more hyper specific instructions on what to do and tell me to leave him be. I told him i am a customer and he is helping me. He shrugged and walked away. I told him on the way out he has a lot to learn about customer service and I am not buying lessons or a board now. This is not a real skate shop. The owner just added on some over-priced boards into a dirty back room and at 11:15am, the store was not even set up. Its a comic book shop, a weak one at that, run by an owner who treats people like crap. Don't waste your money here. read more

I love this place! Staff is fantastic, they're knowledgeable, nice and super helpful. This place is the "Cheers" of comic book shops, everyone greets you by name and knows exactly where your pulls are, which is so important to me. I've had a pull list at a few different shops before BP became my home, and I'd always have to say my name and point them to my cubby or remind them what I've been picking up for the past 6-7 months. A pillar of the community, Bulletproof has been a fixture of the Junction for something like 25 years - I began shopping there as a kid, and I'm a loyal customer to this day. It helps that Hank, the owner, is a fellow long-suffering Knicks fan. You can find way more than comics here: skateboard stuff, toys, tons of video games, there's even a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament. It's a positive place for kids of all ages. And if it's comics you're after, Bulletproof has you covered on everything current; has tons of graphic novels; and its walls are lined with back-issue longboxes. This might be one of my favorite comic book stores in all of NYC. I've only been once so far, but I was blown away - they sell comics and related things (cards, games, apparel) and longboards! Very awesome! I'm into both, so I was naturally pumped. What's even better is that when I walked in, there was a Magic tournament happening and it was mostly people of color. YESSSSSSSSSSSS. I'm so tired of the stereotypical white guy comic book environments where I'm looked at as an anomaly. Yes, I like thin books with pictured panels and card games, not a big deal. Ahh, Bulletproof. You are the flashing neon sign during a glum and soggy day in a college geek's life. Comics, figurines, CCGs, videogames and movies (in the back, both vintage and modern), and just about everything else "geek", lines the walls and counter space of this place. It looks a LOT bigger than it actually is, and you only really grasp the cramped sensation when they have their summertime videogame tournaments, and the metal chairs take up about 70% of the floor space. The summer tournaments themselves (June-August usually) are pretty awesome though. It's usually fighting games - everything from various versions of Soul Calibur to Street Fighter, with cash prizes ranging from $50-300 depending on the submissions. Sometimes even the big name gamer boys from the Chinatown Arcades come down to Bulletproof for their contests, so you may catch a glimpse of Justin Wong if you hang around long enough. (You know, I'd never even know this crap if I hadn't dated a hardcore gamer for a year and a half.) But back to the store itself. The left wall looks like a monsoon of comics hit it and just stuck. Well maybe not a monsoon, since they're all so meticulously organized. But still, that's a lot of damn comics. They've got a pretty neat selection of action figures and collectibles as well, and you can find some really old games in the back, like stuff for the NES that you all but forgot about. As for the staff, those guys REALLY know their stuff, and they really cater to their regulars. read more

Bulletproof is the best comic book and game store in the city. Hank, the owner, is a one of a kind guy that will do his absolute best to suit your every need. If they don't have what you're looking for, chances are they can order it for you. They also have an extensive skate shop, and they even repair electronics! I have been going for years for their weekly gaming tournaments. Unlike most stores, the environment is more relaxed, so you can be comfortable when playing, without having to worry about anyone taking things too seriously. Also, this is the only store I know that you can accidentally put your cards down, and actually have a hope of seeing them again five minutes later. Highly recommend that you check it out if you're into comics or gaming. Big things come in small packages, and you never know, you may end up making a friend for life! read more

I might be a bit biased as I grew up in the neighborhood. Bulletproof was MY comic book store of choice. Fast forward some years, with the emergence of internet shopping and e-books it's nice to see this place still going strong. I don't read comics much anymore and also since I've become a fan of e-media I rarely purchase physical goods anymore. I happened by this place on my way to Target. It was one of those nostalgia moments that you get when you're leaving a place for a long time. I decided to pick up an issue of X-Men, for old times sake. This store is packed as always with the latest greatest issue of just about everything and also plenty of old back issue series as well. Also if comics aren't your thing there's also a back room with posters and action figures. Not to mention they do sell anime and video games opposite the comics. I had come on a Saturday and there were tables out. I'm guessing it was for a Pokemon or Magic tournament. I never really got into the whole card game thing but there's weekly games held here so it's a great place to get a dose of geek culture if you're into that sort of thing. As a college student right around the corner this place is a godsend. I'm just bummed I didn't start coming here until I was (relatively) almost done with my degree. The staff is extremely friendly and informative. The shop itself is well stocked with old and new comics, video games, and they will put an order in on the spot if they're out of what you're looking for. I went in on my birthday to buy some great trades (Waid's DD, Infinity Gauntlet, and Future Foundation) and I received some great tips and friendly conversation while shopping. As I referred to earlier they will put in orders if they don't have what you're looking for, and they did just that for me as I wanted World War Hulk and House of M, which they didn't have in the back. Their membership takes 20% off your purchase of comics which saves money for someone like me who prefers to buy in bulk. Their video game offerings aren't huge but are very diverse, from the current consoles all the way back to NES and even Neo Geo titles. TVs have comic/video game related movies playing constantly setting a good atmosphere. They also have a skate shop in the back for those who are into that kind of thing. BulletProof is the store to go to no matter your needs. If you're looking for a game as soon as it's released, no need to rush. BulletProof will have it in stock the entire day at bare minimum, no matter it's popularity. As a matter of fact, call up to a week in advance and they might already have it. Did I mention that the lines aren't an hour long like they usually are in corporate retail stores such as Best Buy and Toys R' Us? You must either be a genius or a real unambiguous nerd to find any item of absence from whichever of the main entertainment categories the store has. Name a video game that's been long buried in the forgotten past, never to be reproduced. It'll be there. All the comics you can conceive are there, lined up in nice neat rows. There are manga comics as well, anime DVDs, Blu-Ray movies, DVD rentals, action figures, card games, card and statue collectibles, cool game/movie/anime shirts, and more... Besides, if there really is something you wanted like an action figure or some movie that's missing for whatever reason, give it a slight mention and consider it ordered for you. Either way, any game you'd be able to find at a retail store would also be located at BulletProof, with an additional three times the amount. Business hours are seven days a week from 11am to 8pm besides on Sundays during which ranges to 6pm. The staff members in the store are always willing to help with any of your queries and are mostly capable to answer any of them. The manager is very kind and isn't strict with any kind of enforced policies so you can feel free to ask for Hank and ask ANY question. Customers are always treated with respect and with a membership to the store, you can even consider yourself tax free. Things tend to feel much cheaper when no tax is charged ;) There are frequent tournaments of the most popular games. Prize money is given out to the winners and entry is cheap - usually $10. The only negative aspect of the store that I can think of is the outdated database system that is used for subscriptions like to certain comics. Even so, Hank (the main guy in charge) can handle this method quite efficiently. He is the guy that can be credited for the hardest working and most dedicated person I've seen to satisfying his customers, from any store I've been to. BulletProof normally makes my day just from the sheer welcoming feeling of the place and at first, the overwhelming sensation of a kind of place that I never thought to be existent. Even if you're not too much a gaming/comic reading person, this is a place that needs to be seen at least once, especially if you're around. I'd go as far as calling BulletProof the highlight of Brooklyn. To be honest, I'm not especially into games, especially now, and I don't like comics. I regularly buy the Dragon Ball Z Remastered DVD Boxsets as they come out, usually 1-2 weeks in advance, a few games here and there, but that's basically it. All that has been said is from a nondiscriminatory perspective. The reason for my review is because I have never been more satisfied with any local business that I know of, especially due to it's openness. What you see is what you get and there is no hidden agenda. In terms of this kind of entertainment, I can't think of a better title for the store than "The NUMBER 1 Hobby Store in Brooklyn". I'd rank simplicity, price, and relatively - the magnitude of products, as #1 in all of NYC. If you have never been there, don't worry, over-hyping the epic nature of the store is not possible. read more

Theyre comic book nerds and thats what I want when I go to a comic book store. They are very informative and not in a condescending way either. They legitimately want to help you and of course make a sale in the process. The comics are cheap and always brand new....they also sell video games at lower prices than gamestop and from time to time you can see a mini-gameathon going on inside. The place is never crowded and the staff is never rude. Would five star them if they had a larger game selection. read more

Real friendly staff who actually took the time to talk video games with an 11 year old. Wide selection of games and TPB and MOC. Action figures. I'm fairly new to comic books, and I usually just go to Midtown, Forbidden Planet, or JHU. Surprisingly all three of these stores didn't have back issues to the new Thor series (or the prices were ridiculously jacked up), so I figured I'd give Bulletproof a try. Upon entering this store, I had no hope of finding what I came for. I was expecting this to be a St. Mark's Comics type of situation (think claustrophobic and wildly disorganized). The store did have some sort of organization, it escaped me, but there definitely is a system. Fortunately the associates are super helpful, and friendly. I did end up finding what I was looking for, and I think the issues I bought might've even been discounted! Besides the fact that the lighting was depressing, and the store can use some cleaning, this place is awesome, and I highly recommend it. read more

I am reviewing ONLY the Comics part of Bulletproof Comics, since the sign indicates it is a comic store. I went here a few weeks ago. There are tables and chairs in front of all the comics, meaning I can't browse and subsequently purchase any of them. After awkwardly hovering around the tables and being offered no help, I realize today is game day. I came for comics and may as well kick rocks because comics are not accessible certain days of the week. It would be nice if a sign indicated when I could actually go into the comic store and buy comics. read more

I have been following this store from the nineties and can tell you that it's only gotten better. Taken the staff make it a pleasure to go to when buying comic books video games and even on the island like skateboarding equipment. Hes become a flatbush Avenue Junction staple and people from various or areas and backgrounds come and meet up in a place where they enjoy their combo can video game Love. This is my LCBS, and I go here first for my monthlies before expanding my search out to Midtown Comics. I was an infrequent attendee at the start, and they didn't know me very well, but as I came in more and interacted with them, they became more familiar and friendly. Although they weren't able to order older issues of things like Ghostbusters for me, they did begin to carry Bee and Puppycat after I came in asking for it. It's the little things like that that make a loyal out of me. I hope to be able to support them in the years to come, and I look forward to see what recommendations they might have for me in the future. read more

Do not go here unless you want video games. The comics are in disarray. It's near impossible to find anything new--there is no logical sorting of the comics on the wall. The staff and friendly, but they seem to be more interested in chatting with their buddies. Saturdays the comics are blocked by chairs and crowds of thugs paying money to play Playstation 3. If negative star was allow, this would be it. I called the store for a new variant comic book (just came out a day ago) and the owner Hank said he have it and priced it at $75. Took a few min train ride down as soon as I hung up. Showed up at the store asking for the book, he acknowledge me but stand there with his phone out checking auctions for going rate for about 10 minutes (not saying anything) then runs to the back to grab me 2 different covers and play stupid saying these are what he have left and the book I called was mysteriously sold. This guy looked me in the eye lied in front of my face, wasted my time coming down and I truly feels sorry for him who thinks his customers are gullible to fall for that bullsh!t. I've reviewed Bulletproof in the past, 5 stars. That was before I got freaked out from the "Anonymous" hacker group and the PSN network hack. I erased all my internet footprints including my Yelp account. Well I've gotten over that fear and have been back in full swing on Yelp and I'm here to give Bulletproof back its 5 stars. I've been coming to Bulletproof for a couple of years now. I'm a comic book collector, specifically 90s X-Men comics. I've been to this store many times looking for old back issues and even buying new current comic books until the collection started to drain my wallet then I had to put a hold on it. If there was something I wanted that Bulletproof didn't have, they would order it for me. AWESOME. I can trade in games for store credit OR cash unlike Gamecrap... I mean Gamestop where they give you significantly less money if you choose cash. The staff are really KNOWLEDGEABLE and FRIENDLY unlike... *drum roll*... Gamestop. Bulletproof holds gaming tournaments with cash prizes. They sell graphic T-shirts, DVDs, video games, comics, hardcover volumes, new and used gadgets like Xbox, PS3, Rock Band guitars etc... They have a lot of local people who frequent the store and become regulars. You get to become known on a first name basis. You can have your comics put aside for you so you don't miss it on the Wednesday new-comic-book-day rush. The best part of it all? (Well at least for me anyway... LOL) is that they opened up a skateboard shop in the back of the store. They have decks, completes, wheels, trucks, bearings, protective gear, skate shoes and the best of all... *longer drum roll*... Longboards! I recently became interested in the sport and I wanted to pick one up. I stopped in there today and spoke with Chris while feeding the parking meter gods and we had a great long time talking about longboarding. He picked out a board for me, had me test it out. He tightened it up, then I picked out a helmet and I was good to go! Bulletproof offers skateboard/longboard lessons in warmer weather, plus, you get one free lesson with the purchase of a board. LIKE OMG FOR REALZ. Something FREE in NYC! I can't wait to test out my board tomorrow before the slushy snow comes this weekend. i have been going to bulletproof on and off since I was a teenager somewhere around 1993 was the 1st time I stepped into its doors as a elementary school kid playing hooky, and hank was just as friendly, reliable on my special comic orders I asked him for, and welcoming to all creeds and types of people and families looking to treat they're kids. as of today I'm 38 years old a medical professional in my field, and he has a totally new staff and arrangement of his store but I still feel welcome. he has more rare back issues than even the bigger shops in manhattan at a good price unlike midtown comics or st.marks that throw a extra 50 cents onto any back issue, the comics can be hard to get to the further u go to the back of the store, but not that hard as complained about, and hanks right the economy is harsh and comic books are more expensive than ever, and everyone has Netflix so he cant rent movies as once the store used to do. so selling videogames is the smart route to go, tho the game tournaments should be held in the far back away from paying customers the kids are not thugs and mean no harm its a neighborhood store doing what its supposed to do catering to the local neighborhood kids not over privileged adult hipsters with a silver spoon in they're thrift store jeans back pocket that didn't even grow up in Brooklyn. so theres no need for negative connotated code talk. it would be ashamed to see bulletproof close its doors, because someday I hope to bring my child there for they're 1st comic books. just throw in a free board and plastic for every comic and it'll be a perfect experience Ralph. read more

Bulletproof Comics, nestled at the Flatbush/Midwood border, is without a doubt, the top hobby shop in the borough - perhaps in the city as a whole. Owned and ran by a literal mom and pop (occasionally, you'll even see their baby roaming about!), it has a warm, welcoming feel that can be seen just from peering through the front door. I have been a patron of Bullet Proof for many years and the one thing that has remained the same is it's quality of service. The shop's owner Hank and his Staff make all feel welcome and knowing your customers on a first name basis makes for a great personal shopping experience. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. I do enjoy getting movies there because they are usually shipped a few day earlier than most stores so its a plus. there are sometimes where certain issues sell out easy however they do rectify it by the next week. another plus Unlike Midtown Comics they do not charge you for bags and boards . read more

This store is a Brooklyn classic with the personality and customer service to suit its quirky and diverse clientele. I took my 14 y.o. son here for a Yugioh Tournament, and he was welcomed by the staff and really enjoyed the friendly and supportive competitive spirit. Quite a change from his middle school lunch room where "you suck," is more the order of the day. When I came back to pick him up, one of the staff joked about opening a waiting room for the dads, and then offered to bring me a chair. The comics were well organized, and there were many back issues for only a buck. We'll be back for sure. read more
