I love this place!! It can get busy (obviously it's huge) but the bartenders and cooks really know what service mean! 10s across the board!!

Food was cold after taking a long time. It was sitting in the window for a while before the server grabbed it. It was not terribly busy. We have been here a couple times. The burger was okay. We wanted to like this place really bad, especially because they do breakfast until late in the day! Unfortunately our food barely decent. Breakfast hash was so overcooked, potatoes burnt through there was nothing on the inside and the beef was dry. The toast was so stale it wasn't edible we threw it away. We are surprised by how full the place was for breakfast- maybe we had a bad batch? Not sure and sadly won't be trying this place again. Clearly a hidden gem worth the drive to Forest Grove. Easy parking get your own refills of soda no waiting yeah. great place to spend your money had the nachos I can't explain how tall they were the flavor was amazing the shredded beef was so yummy and the chips were crunchy lots of cheese I may order more to take home pool table, games, lottery including Keno ! Well, at least the rebrand's honest. When this establishment first moved here from Downtown Hillsboro, it was the kind of place that would actually care about doing the work behind a name like "Diversity Cafe." It opened its stage to people from the community and the college. It held events for various groups. Its menu was a bit all over the place, but you could chalk that up to being a bit bohemian... and acknowledging its surrounding college town filled with vegetarian, vegan, and otherwise cosmopolitan palates. After the pandemic, however, nothing felt quite right here. It took a decided lean toward the provincial and outright hicky as the rest of the town polished up its act. It focused its menu on cheap beers, pub food, Killer Burger knockoffs, and--always troublesome in this corner of Oregon--barbecue. None of it is particularly good, and the staff serving it has dwindled to a bare minimum. Screens are always on, at full volume, and turned to sports. The kids and the bands were gone, replaced by an emphasis on lottery machines, pool tables, and line dancing, karaoke, and senior-citizen paint night. Congratulations: You're now every lottery bar in Washington County, but now with the occasional goateed Southern Rock cover band. I don't know what about this college town screamed "hey, we should show more Packers and Ducks games," but whoever saw Pelagic Brewing, SaWa Donburi, Pacific Donuts, and both incarnations of Vex come in and said "nope, we're just going to do the dumb opposite of that and call it an 'upscale nightclub,'" I'm sure the Cornerstone, Black Dog, and McMenamin Brothers thank you for making their pub experiences look worthy of Michelin stars by comparison. In the tiny Washington County town of Gaston, there are two bars/restaurants. One has an owner who worked at bars in Hillsboro, learned what that crowd liked, and opened a bar there that catered mostly to their needs while bringing just the right touch of flavor from back home. Diversity Cafe, sadly, was taken over by the owners of the other one: Which doesn't seem to care what Forest Grove is actually like and wants to impose its will upon an establishment and clientele that just aren't here for that purpose. Even in a town without much going on, you actually have to read the room to get people to do things like, oh, go to your comedy show more than once. It's just a shame you took down the sign, because the cash-only, negative-denominator turn this place took really does have a diversity of themes: Country AND Western. read more

Went in Friday night. Nothing but visibly drunk people. Loud and obnoxious. I can also guarantee one of the bartenders was just as drunk. Her breath and eyes gave it away instantly. (Skinny with dark hair). Maybe she was drinking because we heard her say, she and her husband won't be there much longer? We finished our one drink and left. It didn't feel welcoming. As we were not there to get trashed and stared at by a bunch of little guys with big trucks. I do not recommend this place. Even the dive bar across the way was more welcoming and had better pours. Now rebranded, we came to BBB on a Sunday for poker and stayed for some food. Their menu is interesting, with something for everyone. We saw another table order nachos and they looked good so we did the same. Really really good! The chips were fresh and crispy and appreciate they made sure every chip had cheese and toppings. No dollops of toppings, it was spread all over. We had the brisket as our meat choice and really tender and flavorful. I tried my friend's beef stroganoff and it was delicious as well. The noodles seemed fresh and the sauce was creamy but not too cheesy, just right! They have a large menu and looking forward to trying more items. Service was also upbeat and attentive. read more

Been here a few times in the past and had a fairly good experience. We decided to come in for Line dancing and dinner. Got there and nobody greeted us or let us know if we could sit down anywhere. We then tried to order food at the bar since that's what it seemed everyone was doing. The bartender had such an attitude it really put a sour taste in my mouth that we decided not to order anything. The line dancing instructor however was great at teaching and seemed very nice. Hopefully it will be a better experience in the future. read more

Rebranded- many changes none positive so far Note all who enter- Cash is King and on the back door is the announcement that 3.99% of your bill will be added if you use ANY plastic; Debit or Credit. Saw it in action this week when I put my Happy hour drink and food bill on my debit card and my $3 beer was $3.12. Total bill greater than 80.00 have a credit and cash price... what the hell am I at a gas station? Think you can go to the atm and save yourself? Get charged $2.50 transaction fee. Which is likely more than your 3.99% unless your bill is greater than $60. Went back a few days later armed with cash and a $3.00 HH beer was $3.00. Service was as good as it could be considering it's only one person taking orders, making drinks, table service and bartending. Food was pretty good but in my opinion overpriced. $18.00 for a peanut butter burger? Bought it from the originator food cart for $6, but he's gone now.... Same old place with different payment rules, if rebranding was a hope to save the bleeding this won't work. Good luck you'll need it read more

We ended up in Forest Grove earlier than expected for our chosen destination, so we had some time to kill, and decided on wandering through the historic downtown district. We popped in to the Diversity Cafe for a quick brunch, and things were overall OK, but with a few modest bumps here and there. We'd just been beat to the buzzer for the last table in the restaurant proper, so we ended up being seated in the lounge instead. The former has a hometown café feel to it, while the latter proudly wears the uniform of a sports bar, complete with several TVs over the bar, slot machines, and what appeared to be a defunct boxing machine, but I didn't investigate to confirm. Once we were seated, the one server came back around after about 10 minutes, as she appeared overwhelmed with the number of tables she was having to juggle, although she was polite and welcoming about it all. We had a chance to peruse the entire menu, and settled on a couple drinks (an old fashioned for myself, and a canned White Claw for my wife), the fish tacos, jalapeno poppers, and Caesar salad. We tried for the fried pickle chips, but they were currently out of stock. Once ordered, things moved at a pretty standard pace. Our order began to trickle in over the next 10-20 minutes. As the drinks came around, the server made a point of asking my wife to not rest her feet on the unoccupied chair at our table, as it was a "pet peeve" of hers. I'm assuming she is an owner or co-owner, as I can't imagine an hourly employee caring as much. We complied without complaint. When the food started to make its appearance, I was asked rather gruffly to move by drink out of the way, so she could place one of the entrees on the table. This was followed by what came off as a faux-polite "thaaaanks!" that had me and my wife exchanging sidelong glances. Later, the server would insist that two seated patrons stand up and come to her at the bar to place their order, as she was "just done at the moment". Quirks aside, the food was a mixed bag. My Caesar salad was tasty and well-dressed, if not particularly remarkable. The jalapeno poppers were near-nuclear temperature, but that's the way I like them. They don't appear to be homemade, but I didn't expect them to be. The fish tacos were, unfortunately, a bit disappointing. My wife remarked that the fish itself was rather tasteless, but the pico de gallo that accompanied them saved the dish. Overall, the experience was serviceable, and did the trick, but I wouldn't seek out the Diversity Cafe specifically for the food, in the future. However, the promise of the attached dance club is intriguing, and I could see this place being popular on a weekend night when, with enough liquor in my system, I'm sure I'd have a much more favorable review of the cuisine, and the experience overall. For a Sunday brunch, however, there are better options. read more

We had tickets for the comedy show this evening. Doors were to open at 5. We planned to have dinner before the show but the doors didn't open till 6. Went across the street for a beverage and wait. When doors opened at 6 there were 50 plus people in line. Waited for 25 minutes and could see there were not enough seats for the crowd and we would not have seats let alone have dinner before the show. Left to get dinner elsewhere. Big waste by the owners. They lost our dinner and drinks revenue and our future patronage for other events. read more

DO NOT GO IN TO THIS PLACE! Fentanyl found in the kids arcade!!! I was sitting at the bar having a drink when I overheard the bar manager, Tonya, tell the bartender working to not tell any customers or employees about finding fentanyl in the kids arcade! To say I'm livid would be a far understatement! SHE NEEDS TO BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY! Any human being that can endanger our children in our tight nit community needs to be gone immediately! She has not even taken further measures to have police dogs come and search the rest of the place searched! C***!!!!!!! I'm being nice when I just say she should be fired. There's a lot more going on in my head than just that. On a side note, this lady has bullied every good bartender this place (forgetting to fill ice machine, giving out free soda to regulars which she constantly does herself) has had while firing every good cook that's been there. And while doing so, jacked the prices so high, that you might as well eat at the Safeway Deli. At least you'll know it's decent. I myself refuse to go into an establishment where the employees are treated so insanely disgusting. When they hire the good cooks back (whom we're fired for ILLEGAL reasons) and bring back the bartenders that are actually decent while also taking the prices back down to an actual reasonable cost....... We recently held our 45th high school class reunion with catering by Diversity Cafe. The food was EXCELLENT! We enjoyed a sampling of their Classic BBQ Package. The beef brisket was amazing, the bone-in chicken excellent, and beyond Beef meatloaf superb. We also enjoyed the house salad, broccoli salad, and baked beans, and the garlic parmesan mashed potatoes were out-of-this-world good! I am planning on having them cater my PhD graduation party. Even though nothing really stands out about Diversity Cafe, it is a solid spot for breakfast/lunch and provided us with a very pleasant meal in the Forest Grove area. The menu here is pretty diverse, offering great options for lunch like burgers, sandwiches, and tacos, but also has many dinner entrees like steak & beef brisket. My favorite thing on the menu were the fish tacos ($11). The salmon was delicious, and the sauce was very light, making it perfect for lunch. It also comes with tortilla chips and salsa! I was pretty disappointed by the chicken wings though. They were probably the most underwhelming wings I've had. I'd recommend to stay away from these. The big menu is also somewhat misleading as the tacos fall under the "burgers/sandwiches" section, which states that it comes with your choice of fries or tater tots. We ordered the tacos under the assumption that we'd also get tater tots/fries but were eventually charged for them. Thankfully our server was able to take that off for us. The service here was quick & friendly. I enjoyed my meal and would love to try out the other things on this huge menu. Honestly this was a really tasty homey brunch in downtown Hillsboro. I found nothing wrong with it. Service was good, coffee was good, and the food was on point.I enjoyed my scramble and chunky potatoes. Dining companion liked their bacon and eggs and pancakes. It was pretty empty in there on Sunday at 11am. Other thoughts: It is not fancy. There is a handful of tables inside and maybe one or two outside. There is no espresso. They take credit cards. Parking is on the street. You might have to walk a bit. But you are supporting local business and that is a good thing. We will go again. read more

The food is nothing special. In fact I'm pretty sure most of it is out of freezer bags. My wife ordered brisket off the menu, which claimed to have "seasonal vegetables". When we got them they were very VERY obviously a mix from a bag. You know, the corn, lima beans, diced carrots, and green bean mix... My kids chicken strips did not look restaurant made, they looked like they came out of a bag. This is crazy, because making fresh food is so much cheaper than buying premade frozen product. After years working in the service industry, I don't ever leave a bad yelp review unless a restaurant really deserves it. And I always reach out to management with my issue first, and I still haven't heard back from Diversity. First time ordering lunch to go, yeah, they quoted me 15 minutes and it took 40. Was annoying (especially since my lunch break is only 30 mins) but they blamed it on their kitchen's schedule. No big deal, that stuff happens. Second time ordering, called 20 minutes ahead for 2 fried appetizers and was told it would take 15 minutes. It took 45 minutes before food was ready. Two fried appetizers (fried zucchini and potato skins). Once finally able to sit down an eat it was realized that $20 was paid after tip and there were only 2 potato skins, five pieces of fried zucchini, and zero dipping sauces for the appetizers. I emailed Diversity several days ago after realizing this and they have yet to respond. Additionally, after venting to friends about this upsetting lunch experience, I was told by several of my latina and bi-racial friends that they have been flat out refused service at Diversity during open hours. That they had sat down at the bar and told that they weren't open, despite it being within posted business hours and in plain sight of others dining and drinking. Seriously, change your name to anything but "Diversity" because diversity is clearly not your jam. Maybe "Only Serves White People and Then Still Very Badly" is an open domain name. read more

My mom and I went out here yesterday morning for breakfast. We were looking for something simple, yummy, and with a good atmosphere that we could have an actual conversation in that wasn't too busy. We found it here. We both ordered the pancakes, but I got mine with scrambled eggs and she got hers with poached eggs and bacon. All arrived delicious and exactly what we ordered. If you're looking for a simple, relatively inexpensive place to eat for breakfast, this is a good place to go. We enjoyed our breakfast here and we're planning on coming here for karaoke night as well! read more

I've come into this place a few times. Wants to drink and at least three times to have breakfast. Considering it Forest Grove I'm sure they're going to get plenty of business with the college students and the fact that they are a club at night and then they do these painting classes that most play place or jumping on because it brings in good business. The first time I had breakfast I thought it was pretty good. Second time I had breakfast I was pretty shocked at the portions they give you. I had an egg pancakes that's some strawberries on top and my choice of bacon sausage and something else. I took some home to my dog cuz it was just a lot. I was not impressed with the coffee! I know if anybody knows about cowboy Coffee but it basically means is black I mean like tar. I tried adding some cream and sugar to it to make it taste a little better and that just seems to make it worse so I definitely pass on the coffee. Third time I went in for breakfast I got a croissant that was not warm and not very good at all. I skipped on the coffee, because I remembered how horrible it tasted and I just stuck with water. I will say this, the second and third time going into the establishment. My waitress was not very fast pace. It's not like I want her to be at my beck and call, but she doesn't have a sense of urgency or care. Kind of seems like she walks slowest possible to get you anything like she might break a sweat if she were to walk any faster. I understand that being a waitress is probably a hard job considering I only saw one in there every time I've gone in and to have to wait on people I'm sure it's difficult and not always fun. My husband and I went here for breakfast on a Sunday around 9:30am. I was expecting it to be busy, but it wasn't, about 6 tables, including ours. First thing, I walked in w/a smile on my face, saying Hi to the hostess, she acted like she was annoyed, she said "can I help YOU?" 2 please, I said; I worked in the restaurant business for 20+ years, everyone can have an off day. Long story short, the coffee tasted like it's been sitting there for days, burning the bitterness right into it. The pancakes were totally rubbery. If I would have dropped it on the floor it would have bounced back on my plate. It took 45 min to get our food from the kitchen, even though there were a total of 6 tables. When we left, there was a man outside on a table w/his dog, he had a menu, but nothing else. He asked us if it was super busy inside the restaurant and that's why he wasn't getting any service? Stopped in for breakfast and took a chance on the country fried steak. Finding a good CFS is really hard. I usually have to drive to Long Beach, WA. Well, no longer! The steak is hand battered and the gravy - oh my. I didn't have to pepper at all. When I almost could not eat another bite, I chose to finish off the CFS. The rest of the meal was just as good. If you know me, you know I love finding little gems that are not chain owned. I did find this little gem in the middle of downtown Hillsboro. Diversity Cafe is not so much defined as a cultural thing, but more along the lines of culinary tastes. The brisket is so moist and tender that you will want to eat it until you burst. The hash browns are cubed red potatoes sautéed and browned to perfection. The sandwiches are so beautifully presented that it's almost a crime to bite into them! When you do though, your tongue will embark on a roller-coaster ride of flavors that only a skilled chef can take you on. My only concern to this place is the order to table time is a little bit of a wait. It does give you an opportunity to talk, but don't be in a hurry. The hours are great, but call because there was a discrepancy between what was on the Yelp site and their window. Overall, worth the wait, worth the taste, and prices are reasonable. read more

Went in for dinner around 6pm on Mon. 7/24, restaurant wasn't too full. First visit...we thought we had waited long enough for them to work out most of the new restaurant kinks. We ordered the Hollywood burger and fries, the brisket dinner with fries, and my son ordered the pancakes and eggs. We waited about 45 minutes, and my husband and I each had two Pineapple ciders (which were tasty) while we waited. No explanation from the waitress for the long wait...surprised that it was taking so long as the restaurant wasn't full. The food finally came. The burger was not totally cold, but had to have been sitting a long time. Overcooked, missing the bacon that was supposed to come on it and fries were cold. Husband's brisket and fries were cold. Son's eggs were hot, along with the rice that came on the side of the brisket. Menu said my son's meal came with four pancakes, but there were only three, and once he got to the middle there was still uncooked batter. Waitress came to check on us, and we let her know what was wrong, and she let us know that they were training a new cook that night, and that they had been through about four cooks already. I'm surprised that the person training the cook wasn't supervising them, and let food sit and get cold and that items were made incorrectly. We didn't finish our meals. It would have also been nice if the waitress had mentioned the training and apologized for the wait sometime in the 45 minutes (or when we were ordering) so we knew why things were taking so long....We don't mind waiting for good, fresh food. But to wait that long for bad, cold food was very disappointing. They gave us 35% off (I would rather not have paid, but wasn't going to argue with the waitress about it), and offered us a free slice of cake, but at that point we just wanted to leave. TLDR...we ended up going across the street to Schmizza for more food. Probably won't be going back to Diversity Café. read more

I have eaten here a at least 6 times. The food is fresh and presents well. I have not had the same thing twice and will someday try their burger. They have been very amenable to substitutions and have worked with us to accommodate our large group. We sometimes overwhelm the wait staff and have to wait for our orders but we are with friends and enjoy our visits. I recommend the Diversity Cafe for fresh food and individually prepared plates. read more

For the claim of diversity, this is a burger and breakfast joint. The food is overcooked, dried out, and it completely lacks diversity away from the American SAD diet. Service was great and they attempted to do their best with what came out of the kitchen, but the food itself was awful. We need good local restaurants and I'm so sad to recommend avoiding this one unless you lack taste buds or desire heart attack food. NOT APPROPRIATE FOR VEGAN, VEGETARIAN, GLUTEN-FREE, OR OTHER DIETARY RESTRICTIONS. UPDATE I've been told that the restaurant is hiring new staff and revamping their menu. I think this place is great. We've been there several times and must have the best luck ever, judging by the other reviews. Haven't experienced anything like what's posted here. The food is great and has a variety of things so everyone in my large family can find something they like. j I'm a little old-fashioned and just like a good bacon burger, but I've tried several other offerings and they were great. Breakfast food here is amazing! We had two birthday parties here (one with 32 people) and they handled it SO well. We all got our food at roughly the same time and it was hot and good. We went Diversity Cafe today for the 1st time. Saturday market was going on but we got a table pretty quickly. We sat there for 10 minutes with the waitress walking by many times and never even got water. When the family that came in before us had to go ask for menus I was pretty much done. The food might be good? I don't know because I couldn't wait for either of the waitresses to figure out we were there. She is definitely not a multi-tasker. We walked done the street to Amelia's. 2nd time to Diversity Cafe. The waitress explained they are scratch made so it could be individualized. I ordered the brisket hash ( signature dish according to the waitress). GF had the veggie scramble. The hash browns were indeed homemade. Unfortunately the cook didn't rinse the shredded potatoes and they were a starchy mess. So bad I thought it was fat from the brisket at first. Terrible and uneatable. GF said her scramble was bland and unseasoned. I like to support local business but the cook needs some training. Just read more
