The place across the road that's changed its branding from diversity to something more boot-scoot friendly while trading in local bands for line dancing and country cosplay? Yep, that's a hick bar and it's trying really hard to give you a country-fried boutique next door and a drunk-country playlist to convince you of its bona fides. A dive bar, especially a great one, doesn't have to make much of an effort to convince you of its merits. My Place looks absolutely frightening from the outside, to the point that if it wasn't located it Forest Grove, I'd have it pegged as a mob joint. There are two small, high windows, one sign (that isn't for the lottery), and a solid wooden door that looks as if it exists to repel battering rams. And inside? It looks like a place that was designed to ride out Prohibition. Your decor's mostly the bar, woodwork, and vintage coolers, along with some pool tables and lottery machines. It's lit largely by Christmas lights and distributor-supplied neon. It's an old card room turned lottery bar. But amid the cheap pours of Pabst and Widmer and cans of Hamm's and Keystone is a bar menu that puts a town full of far newer competitors to shame. We're what, two breweries in at the other place across the street and nobody on this block has managed a burger better than My Place? This grill and this recipe must be guarded with as many lives as we can throw at them, because this thing rivals OG Stanich's. Meanwhile, between the steak special, the reuben, and the fact that you can get a club sandwich here at just about any hour--and get everything at insanely reasonable cost--I don't know why I keep putting myself though the aggravation of crossing the street to its neighbors. Let the folks in those new tract homes up the way eyeball this place in fear. Let that NO MINORS sign keep diverting their kids to the brewery and food cart of the moment. Every time I walk in here, I feel like I've found Forest Grove's best secret--and if it means sitting with a bunch of over 40s and not particularly caring what the area's parents think about school politics or NASCAR, that's fine with me.

It's a great little "hidden" spot with a cool history; it actually served as a dental clinic for the residents back in the day! I had the 1983 Lager, which was refreshing, and we shared an order of their famous Cajun Tots along with the pretzel sticks and beer cheese. The tots arrived piping hot, and McMenamins' ranch dressing is always a winner. However, I have to give a special shoutout to the pretzel sticks; they were incredibly tasty, and that beer cheese was outstanding. My only "complaint" (if you can call it that) is that I wish there was even more cheese for dipping both the pretzels and the tots, but that's just personal preference! The bar was steadily busy the entire time we were there, but the service was great and never felt rushed. It's a fantastic place to hang out and relax; they have pool tables, shuffleboard, darts, and even a couple of vintage pinball games. If you're looking for a chill spot to spend a few hours with friends, this is definitely it.

The noodles were sumptuous and quite unlike I had ever tasted before. The veggie wontons I believe are a family recipe and whoever says vegetarian food can't be good, should eat these wontons. The noodles with a bit of wonton and the bok choy all coated in delicious chili oil was the perfect bite that I'll savor and think about for a long time. The husband's beef stew was beautifully crafted with a depth of flavor and tender pieces of meat and carrots. With that came the best possible baguette to sop up all that wonderful stew. Dustin and Yen (the couple that runs the place) are warm, inviting and enterprising people. Eating here seems like eating in their home where every item is made with the utmost love and attention. They have an expansive and creative drink menu as well which have nonalcoholic options. The menu changes every day which is fun and something to look forward to each visit. Needless to say we will be back again!! If you're in the area pop on by and support this delicious local and authentic place.

I'm sharing this review respectfully and in good faith, with the hope that it can help encourage a positive, inclusive, and accessible experience for everyone. One concern I noticed during my visit is that the customer restroom is located up/down a flight of stairs, which may create significant challenges for individuals who use wheelchairs or have mobility disabilities. If the restroom is only accessible by stairs, customers with mobility limitations may not be able to independently access the facility. I understand that this business is currently applying to become an Oregon Lottery retailer. Because becoming a lottery retailer may potentially increase public traffic, I believe it would be helpful for the appropriate authorities to review the location for ADA compliance and overall accessibility. I also hope the business can verify whether the building and its current use meet all applicable accessibility requirements under the **Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Oregon accessibility regulations, and applicable local requirements**. I understand that certain older or historic buildings may have specific provisions, exceptions, or other requirements that can apply. However, I believe any applicable "grandfather" provision or exemption should be confirmed with the appropriate city and Oregon state authorities rather than assumed. My intention is not to make accusations or negatively characterize the business. I simply believe accessibility concerns are important to bring forward, particularly when a business serves the general public. Every member of the community should have a reasonable opportunity to access public businesses safely, comfortably, and with dignity. I hope this concern can be reviewed constructively and, if necessary, addressed in a way that helps make the establishment more welcoming and accessible to everyone.
