Downie's Café in Bay City, Oregon is the kind of small-town coastal gem that makes you grateful you wandered in. My first impression: the cleanest, nicest bathroom I've ever seen in an American diner! To the last bite, it's clear this is a place that takes pride in the details. I went for the Tillamook cheddar and ham omelette with a homemade biscuit and hash browns, while my soulmate had Eggs Benedict that was phenomenal even on English muffins, though I couldn't help imagining how legendary it would be served on their incredible homemade biscuits. The mixed greens that came with it were fresh, high-quality, and lightly dressed with olive oil and lemon, no bottled dressing shortcut here. I swapped toast for one of those biscuits and had to try the gravy. It was smooth, perfectly seasoned, and avoided that heavy, lumpy texture so many places serve. Out of curiosity, we ordered a pancake, and I'm glad we did. It was fluffy, flavorful, and clearly made from scratch, served with Tillamook butter. Everything tasted fresh, cooked in a butter-oil blend without the seed or vegetable oils that ruin flavor elsewhere. My only regret was skipping the seafood omelettes (shrimp or oysters), but with a four-hour drive ahead, I decided to save that for next time. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to upgrade the coffee, which was just okay compared to the food. Service from Sarah was outstanding, prompt, friendly, and exactly what you want in a place like this. The vibe was pure coastal Oregon: locals chatting, a cozy, no-frills dining room connected to a market, and a mission to feed you well so you can get on with your day. It's not something you'd find in Manhattan, and that's part of its charm. Five stars without hesitation. If you're doing a coastal Oregon trip, make this a stop, you'll leave full, happy, and already planning your return.

This is my favorite cinnamon roll in the world!

Five American Diner experience. Authentic good ole fashioned recipes, served in the traditional more than you could possibly eat style, made with Love by third generation women, (who are training the fourth generation already.) It's small, off the hwy venue, is the unspoken RULE: eat and free the seat for the next person when they are busy. If things a slow paced one can hang out and hear the local tea. They have also opened a food truck on the food quart down town Tillamook and it is a satillite station of all grandmas famous recipes. I had an experience recently when I went too early to the food court the only truck open was Downie's and the breakfast burrito is the best one I've ever had and again in the food ole American more than you could possibly eat portions. So you get two or three meals out of one. The best bang for your buck. Not to mention they won my customer loyalty that morning . Don't miss out on this American jewel when you pass through our fair county. Located off the hwy in Bay City, just north of Tillamook or downtown Tillamook at the food court. Enjoy

Go. Here. Best ranch I've ever had. Friend's burger was THICK. Even my beef round steak tasted like, well, a steak. Service was personable and friendly. A very small but super cute place, and I really hope you give it a try.

The best diner on the Oregon Coast, bar none. The service is friendly, efficient and brisk. The food is absolutely outstanding, especially their signature cinnamon roll. It's a tiny hole in the wall place but manages to be clean, warm and inviting. Even the bathroom is emaculate.

    Oyster breakfast was amazing.

Stopped by on our way out of town and were so happy to get a table at this super cute little diner in town. The service was fantastic, everyone was super friendly, attentive and the food came out hot, fresh and quick. It was all delicious, and we were so glad we tried one of their giant cinnamon rolls. If you are in the area, this is a great little breakfast spot, you won't be disappointed.

Lovely aesthetic with views overlooking the peaceful harbor with birds swooping in and around. The interior is clean, welcoming and comfortable. I am not a big burger girl but let me tell you this; we (both) ordered the PBJ Marionberry Burger and it's the best burger that Mr. Wonderful and I have EVER had! (*HE eats a lot of burgers!) I tried to get a good cross-section photo, but I'm not a professional (like John). Anyway, they give you a bunch of wet wipes with this meal because - *YES! The only snafu we experienced was - ordered 1 IPA and 1 blonde and ended up with two IPAs - Mr. Wonderful & IPA = no bueno but he's too nice. Even after I double checked with Tami (who was wonderful) he stuck with their error. Would we return? 100% most definitely!

I do not usually post, but if it's bad experience then I don't want anyone else to endure it. We were here to help support the local community business in Tillamook since I just live in Portland. We stayed one night at the Tillimook Inn. We were here for the Rockaway Beach Kite festival with all my family. First, we arrived for breakfast to put my name at the counter. They said it would be long wait. OK, tell me how long or do I just guess how long and how to run your operations to understand the wait period. So I had to ask, 15, 30 minutes an hour then I finally get a response. OK, no buzzer or phone number to collect for when table is ready so I told them...I'LL BE IN YOUR CAFE WAITING. 30 minutes go by, 45 minutes go by then I went back to find my name had been ERASED from their prehistoric white board they use to take down names. I asked what happened when I saw tons of groups being sat before me when I'm pretty sure I was there first. Some nasty woman with tye dye(all the same uniform) said YOU CAN TAKE A SEAT AND WAIT OR LEAVE AND YOU CAN STOP YELLING AT ME. What a terrible thing to say for Tillamoon hospitality. I just asked why my name was erased and how longer for a table to be ready. Believe me, I'm 55 years old, if I was yelling....you'd know and I'd be making a scene. We finally get table 10 minutes later. Ordered...then another 30 minutes for subpar food. I didn't post any photos since I forgot with calming my kids and family since.they were so hungry. The host and nasty woman should be counseled and disciplined, not terminated since I'm sure she's not fit for any other small town jobs. We're on our way to Rockaway hoping for a better coast experience.

I have gotten the breakfast burrito when having breakfast and would characterize it as large, yet underwhelming in taste. None of the beers that i have tried are particularly memorable, but they are very drinkable. The service is courteous and they strive to keep the tables clean. The ordering here is done at the counter and I have found this to be a great way of taking orders in a casual establishment. This allows one to peruse the menu at a table at one's own speed, then walk up to the counter to ask any questions about the menu and then place the order. My experiences have been that the employee at the register has always been patient, informative and respectful. They bring your order to your table when it is ready. My experience is that they give you a conservative estimate of the time for preparing and the real time has been shorter. Note that I think they do a good job with turnaround times given how many customers are in the restaurant combined with their apparent significant take-out business. My dinner experiences have been very satisfying and that is what one would expect from a meat purveyor. However, they do not fumble the ball on the execution. Casual food, but tasty. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating: plenty of both. Part of the outside seating is heated and covered during much of the year. I have never been there when you could not choose a table. I think a great casual stop, and a unique one, when visiting the Tillamook area.
