This was my second time shooting a traditional bow and I had a blast. I did, however, have a HORRIBLE bruise on my arm after our time there. I used the arm guard provided with our rental, but it was a soft guard. Now, I know I need to use a hard guard every time I do archery. I would, absolutely, go back for another session. Archery is so much fun and easy to learn for beginners. If you have ever been curious, this is a great place to try your luck at a new hobby.

The very 1st time I used it, the thing stripped out. The tips of each side of the nipple remover simply broke off thereby of course making it useless. So I called the store thinking they would not have issues in replacing a 10$ part for someone who had spent $400. The asst manager , who by the way is an arrogant smart mouth person with no regard to how the individual customer is treated. Upon letting him know what had happened and ask him to replace it. He began to quote " corporate rules" which if anyone else out there has been in this situation knows what that means. It's a bulls*@t way of telling you no. So me thinking the guy is being petty and if he realized that it would go public and that his bosses would find out, I told him I would post a review and write and email to corporate. The guy and I wish I could remember his name, but he did claim to be the asst manager. Anyway the guy literally started laughing and replies " I can give you their number that way to won't have to email them." Being a total smartass. Of course everyone will make their own decisions as to shop at this store. But as usual buyer beware. So Sportsman warehouse, P T Barnum himself would be proud of your business practices. The YMCA backs up to Rocky Mountain National Park and the entire place is easy to navigate. If you want something out of the ordinary but in-line with history, check out the Lula W Dorsey museum which is also on campus and see all the history the Y has had to offer over the last 100+ years! This is a great place to unwind and really connect with nature. If you have ever heard of shrinyoku (forest bathing), this is a place to do it. BOOKING AND RESERVATION PROCESS: 2 stars My brother booked and placed a substantial deposit over 2 years ago on a large reunion cabin and the adjacent large cabin. As the event neared, we met virtually with camp hosts who informed us that they can't guarantee we get the cabins we reserved. They'll "try," they said, but can't guarantee we'll get those adjacent cabins. Our only theory is the Y reserves the right to bump outsiders should an esteemed member want what we reserved. It all started off on a wrong foot, and combined with the impossible act of reserving additional cabins or rooms on April 1, when reservations open to the general public, it started to feel risky and like we made a bad choice. To me, it seems a reasonable add-on to the reunion booking process to allow us to book additional cabins in advance so we can find rooms for all family. Within minutes at 8:00 am on April 1, small cabins and most lodge rooms were snagged up. They also said we couldn't access the cabins until after 6 pm on arrival day. That meant we had to figure out a way to keep all of our food we purchased chilled until we could put it in our cabin's refrigerator. As it turned out, we did get the cabins we reserved/requested AND they were ready far earlier than our 5 pm arrival time. Total experience? Nerve-wracking. CABINS/ACCOMMODATIONS - 2 stars I get it - lots of large groups use this place. All the more reason to maintain them in a manner that is safe & comfortable for all. We had two sofas, one of which was unusable and a number of small issues that were eventually addressed. THE GOOD/POSITIVE: So much for youngsters to do, but be prepared to spend a lot of time driving kids back and forth to each activity. My "sense" was kids got to try a few new things, like horseback riding and archery, for an add-on fee. Good hiking trails. Downtown Estes (and an additional amusement park), are a short drive away in downtown Estes. Snack shop and little store on campus. All in all, maybe it's my age getting the best of me but I didn't find the accommodations very comfortable- just the 2 aforementioned couches, 1 of which was broken. All other chairs are wooden. So there's a point, as an adult, when the beauty of the mountains starts to wear thin when you're not as comfortable as you'd like to be. Bottom line? Go into it prepared. Try out a smaller cabin before opting to book for a huge reunion to make sure it will fit your family's needs. I wish they were a bit more accommodating and generous with furniture, etc., in their lodging. If you like Rustic, you'll love it here.

It is an open outdoor range with a multitude of targets to shoot at. You do need a colorado wildlife pass to come and park. There is a reservoir you can walk around nearby and not sure what else is in the area. They do typically run loveland girl scout day camp here. My daughter has only done that once so I am not super familiar with the area. It is really nice to have this outdoor sport super available and local to our area and community.

Because of that completely wrong assumption, I never bothered to go in. Fast forward a few years and after reading the reviews here in Colorado I finally decided I had to see it for myself. Yesterday, March 6th, the weather was miserable. Cold, windy, light snow and rain. Not the kind of day you want to be outside, let alone skiing. So I figured it was the perfect day to finally give Scheels a try. I ended up spending five hours in the store and taking more than 250 photos, and this place absolutely blew my mind. There were sports and equipment sections I didn't even know existed. The store truly has everything you could possibly need and then some. What impressed me most was the staff. They were knowledgeable and helpful but didn't hover every five seconds like some stores do, which allowed me to really explore and absorb everything. The shoe selection was outstanding with every kind of running shoe, ski boot, work boot and outdoor footwear you could imagine, and the shoe staff were clearly well trained helping customers. I also spent about 45 minutes in the luggage section, which was surprisingly impressive. It's clearly a curated department run by someone who truly understands travel. I spoke with a luggage specialist who I believe is from Asia and a serious world traveler herself. She was incredibly knowledgeable and immediately understood what I meant when I told her I was tired of hard-sided luggage and wanted something built for an active lifestyle. She introduced me to a beautiful 100-liter Patagonia rolling duffel with durable wheels, strong zippers, and soft-sided construction that can actually handle real travel. These types of bags come with lifetime guarantees on the wheels and zippers, and now I'm officially saving my pennies to buy one. The store itself was alive and buzzing with families, couples, hunters, skiers and outdoor enthusiasts everywhere. The only section that felt a little thin was the women's golf apparel where most of the XS sizes were gone, while the men's golf section was very well stocked. Parking was plentiful and easy. Scheels isn't just a sporting goods store. It's an experience.

My local store is the original location in N Fort Collins, so that's what I will review here. They must treat their employees well, because many of them have been there a long time, and they have a wealth of knowledge (vs that national recreation equipment store that shall not be named, where employee turnover is huge). JAX focuses on the higher end of clothes, shoes, and equipment; if that's your focus, start here as their selection is big and high quality. I do a lot of backpacking, kayaking, and canoeing, and they are the place I start first. If they think I should look at something they don't have, I've been impressed over the years that they will suggest another store such as some of the sports stores in Boulder. From JAX over the years, I've purchased sleeping pads, daypacks, packs for month-long expeditions, boots and shoes for climbing, hiking, winter mountaineering, raft trips, and general around town. They helped me get a special long fiberglass kayak paddle, and a pair of small ultra high-end binoculars needed for a specific trip. Plus climbing gear, alpine and nordic ski stuff (though their selection of skis is limited), a wide variety of flies and nymphs, and helped me figure out a super small, lightweight gun sight. He needed some arrows and so we went to Archery Depot because they're basically next door and a specialty archery store sounded great. We were not disappointed! The owners are super friendly, knowledgeable, willing to shoot the breeze, answer questions, and generally make you feel welcome; the shop dog helps with the welcoming feel as well. They have a small, indoor shooting range as well which they'll let you use for a small fee with your own equipment or for free if you're testing out equipment you're looking to buy. If they don't have what you want/need, they'll order it for you (pay in advance because...obviously) and they'll get it within 2 business days. My spouse ended up buying some custom arrows from the shop, which he got custom fletched, and they told him that the other sporting goods store he went to in order to have his draw weight measured it wrong by 10lbs! They also put a notch on his bowstring for him for free and helped him shorten his string, which apparently came too long for his bow. The excellent customer service experience provided by Archery Depot would make me recommend them to anyone in need of archery supplies.
