The staff here is wonderful and there is even the Rustic Cafe inside the registration building to grab a quick bite all day. The YMCA backs up to Rocky Mountain National Park and the entire place is easy to navigate. If you want something out of the ordinary but in-line with history, check out the Lula W Dorsey museum which is also on campus and see all the history the Y has had to offer over the last 100+ years! This is a great place to unwind and really connect with nature. If you have ever heard of shrinyoku (forest bathing), this is a place to do it. Wildlife will hang around here at all times of the morning and later in the evening too. Most of all experience it all and make memories!

BOOKING AND RESERVATION PROCESS: 2 stars My brother booked and placed a substantial deposit over 2 years ago on a large reunion cabin and the adjacent large cabin. As the event neared, we met virtually with camp hosts who informed us that they can't guarantee we get the cabins we reserved. They'll "try," they said, but can't guarantee we'll get those adjacent cabins. Our only theory is the Y reserves the right to bump outsiders should an esteemed member want what we reserved. It all started off on a wrong foot, and combined with the impossible act of reserving additional cabins or rooms on April 1, when reservations open to the general public, it started to feel risky and like we made a bad choice. To me, it seems a reasonable add-on to the reunion booking process to allow us to book additional cabins in advance so we can find rooms for all family. Within minutes at 8:00 am on April 1, small cabins and most lodge rooms were snagged up. They also said we couldn't access the cabins until after 6 pm on arrival day. That meant we had to figure out a way to keep all of our food we purchased chilled until we could put it in our cabin's refrigerator. As it turned out, we did get the cabins we reserved/requested AND they were ready far earlier than our 5 pm arrival time. Total experience? Nerve-wracking. CABINS/ACCOMMODATIONS - 2 stars I get it - lots of large groups use this place. All the more reason to maintain them in a manner that is safe & comfortable for all. We had two sofas, one of which was unusable and a number of small issues that were eventually addressed. THE GOOD/POSITIVE: So much for youngsters to do, but be prepared to spend a lot of time driving kids back and forth to each activity. My "sense" was kids got to try a few new things, like horseback riding and archery, for an add-on fee. Good hiking trails. Downtown Estes (and an additional amusement park), are a short drive away in downtown Estes. Snack shop and little store on campus. All in all, maybe it's my age getting the best of me but I didn't find the accommodations very comfortable- just the 2 aforementioned couches, 1 of which was broken. All other chairs are wooden. So there's a point, as an adult, when the beauty of the mountains starts to wear thin when you're not as comfortable as you'd like to be. Bottom line? Go into it prepared. Try out a smaller cabin before opting to book for a huge reunion to make sure it will fit your family's needs. I wish they were a bit more accommodating and generous with furniture, etc., in their lodging. If you like Rustic, you'll love it here.

He needed some arrows and so we went to Archery Depot because they're basically next door and a specialty archery store sounded great. We were not disappointed! The owners are super friendly, knowledgeable, willing to shoot the breeze, answer questions, and generally make you feel welcome; the shop dog helps with the welcoming feel as well. They have a small, indoor shooting range as well which they'll let you use for a small fee with your own equipment or for free if you're testing out equipment you're looking to buy. If they don't have what you want/need, they'll order it for you (pay in advance because...obviously) and they'll get it within 2 business days. My spouse ended up buying some custom arrows from the shop, which he got custom fletched, and they told him that the other sporting goods store he went to in order to have his draw weight measured it wrong by 10lbs! They also put a notch on his bowstring for him for free and helped him shorten his string, which apparently came too long for his bow. The excellent customer service experience provided by Archery Depot would make me recommend them to anyone in need of archery supplies.

The people, the place, how Glenn is such a rare great human being that still gives you hope in humanity since he's such a pure hearted great man and you can see and feel it in this place. Me and my girl came here for some fun and it couldn't have been better, Glenn came a few times and gave me some tips and corrections, put us a stick with eggs to shoot at which was SOOO FUN and he did everything from his heart. Not every bow shop knows everything about bows gear tuning etc. Many places sell you a bow put on a…read moresight, rest, d-loop set the bow at center shot and 90 degrees on your string and tell you all is set and well. As many of you know that is just the start of this not the end. These guys at bulls eye are good. They know how to set up bows and most importantly take the time to do it right and explain what they are doing to customers that don't already know. Pretty rare how much time they take. Just a bunch of nice people too. I am pretty good at all this stuff I know when I find a shot where the team knows what they are doing. These guys are dang good.

I recently bought a used compound bow off a decent fella here in Cheyenne. While I'm enthusiastic…read moreto get started, I have no clue regarding anything relating to compound bows. So I took everything I got into Wilbur at Bullseye Archery. I was up front with him, and he was more than patient with me. For being slammed on a Friday afternoon, he still took the time to adjust the draw length, put a new D-ring on the bow, raise the peep hole, and show me how to use my release trigger. He explained everything he was doing and why it was important. I felt pretty good about the experience by that point, but he was interested to see me shoot and talk me through some mechanics. So he cut a half dozen arrows to length and we stepped in back to let some fly. He complimented me on my first couple, then said to get out there and practice. Honestly, it was the best 30 minutes I've spent in a store of any kind in a very long time. Everything was a learning experience, and Wilbur is a great teacher even when his attention is divided among lots of customers.

SO fun - we had no idea what to expect or who else would be there but it was a blast. Super…read morefriendly competition and the teams got mixed up. My husband and I went on our own and there was another couple, a group of friends and a dad/son which all worked great. The person running the program mixed the teams up a few times and we played 4-5 versions with different rules and it was great to mix it up. I will say one person def got hit and pretended not to ( a lot lol), probably always one in the mix - all in all a great time and will be back!
