    Close up of fried chicken
    Tyler B.

I am so full! Collard greens, Lima beans with fried okra, home made corn bread and lemonade and the best fried chicken in the world! Mississippi soul food! Oh and that big chunk of meat is pigs feet! Will be back in a few days to try the rest of the menu. But super friendly, top tier service, and best soul food in Mississippi! Ambiance is exactly what you would expect for the type of quality and food.

Honestly such a life changing experience. the food was phenomenal and the service was even better. I loved being here it was so welcoming- it's truly an experience that transcends just eating that makes this place so so special. You can truly feel the history and soul in the space and it seeps into the food. Easily my favorite place we ate at while visiting the South!

The best soul food you'll ever eat! We had beef tips and rice, ox tail, pig feet, okra tomatoes, squash, and greens. Very well priced. The staff is amazing and kind.

Pig feet, fried okra, greens (cabbage), corn bread

Absolutely amazing quality of food and customer service. A James Beard award recipient for a reason. We came all the way from California to eat the best soul food in the country, and this is it. We had the smothered pork chops, pigs feet, sweet potatoes, greens (we chose cabbage), fried okra, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. We're Vietnamese, and we have pigs feet in our cuisine. But we've never had such fall-off-the-bones pig feet before we came to Bully's. The skin and tendons were so tender and extremely flavorful. Pork chop was tasty. All the sides were fantastic. We have to come back to try the oxtail. We had the honor of meeting Mr. Bully himself. If you have a minute, read the framed newspapers on the wall to learn more about the history and legacy of the restaurant. A true vision of the American dream. Thank you Mr. Bully! We will see you the next time we're back in the south!

The food was okay. The sweet potatoes were good, the pork chop was very tender literally fell apart with my plastic fork the Mac n cheese was okay not the best I ever had. I loved the sweet tea! The service was great southern service. The ambiance was just like someone's home. Wasn't bad it was nice to support a local business while passing through.

I was on a hunt for some good soulfood and this place was nearby. It had been around for years but this was my first visit. I ordered the oxtails, mac & cheese, & collard greens. The food was ok to me.

My husband and I ended up in Jackson, MS on New Year's Day because our flight in New Orleans back home was cancelled, and we decided to drive back home instead. While I was driving to Jackson from New Orleans, my husband looked up soul food restaurants and found Bully's. We were excited to try this place and support a local family owned restaurant. The staff was really sweet, however it did take them a few times to figure out our order, but our order was accurate. The food was delicious. I ordered the beef tips and had both of my sides be their greens. My husband had their cornbread, their fried okra, Mac & cheese, and greens. We both inhaled our food because we were so hungry, and I had skipped lunch. We would totally come back again, and I'd recommend Bully's to anyone in the area looking for some authentic soul food in the area.

Welp the reviews were right, the food was excellent!! My order in order was taken in a professional manner. Customer service was perfect, they made sure my food was correct before leaving restaurant. Inside seating for dining service if you wish. We had the catfish with greens, mac & cheese, fried okra, and corn bread. All the food was seasoned well. The food was delicious, fresh, and hot! I will visit again when Im in town. Best meal in Jax, MS!!

This little place is tucked away off Lakeland Drive, down from Schlotzsky's in that little white shopping center. Blink twice and you'll miss it...and that'd be a crying shame. First things first...that Smash Burger. Son...I about slapped myself just to make sure I wasn't dreaming! I'm telling y'all right now, it's the best smash burger I've ever put in my mouth, and I ain't taking that statement back. Now let's discuss these Trashed Ribs. Sweet baby Jesus riding a smokehouse...WHOEVER came up with these deserves a parade! They are so doggone good they'll make you want to hug the pitmaster. The baked beans? Mercy! If Grandma made beans this good, half the family would've never left home. Best baked beans I've ever eaten, and that's saying something because I've been eating my way across Mississippi for a long time. Now I'll admit, I'm a mustard potato salad fella. Always have been. But even though theirs isn't my usual style, I'd eat a five-gallon bucket of it without apologizing to anybody. The brisket sandwich? Lawd have mercy! Tender enough you don't hardly need teeth. And that Brisket Philly Cheesesteak? If you order it, don't make plans afterward because you're gonna need a nap and probably a testimony. The folks working there couldn't be nicer if they tried. The waitress treats you like you've been neighbors for twenty years, keeps your drink full, and makes you feel right at home. That's the kind of Southern hospitality folks are always talking about. So quit fooling around with the same ol' drive-thrus and chain restaurants. Gas up the truck, tell your wife you're "running an errand," and head over there. Your stomach will be happier than a tick on a hound dog. Y'all can thank me later...but don't tell too many people. I'd still like to find a parking spot!

The ribs were cold, which took away any chance of enjoying them the way they should be: tender and piping hot with that kiss of smoke. Without that, it was just tough meat on a bone. I will say the rub was flavorful, but it couldn't help the toughness. Also got a beef sausage with onions and while the snap of the casing was pronounced, the insides were cold and bland as well. Barbecue sauce is usually the soul of a place like this, something that tells you the story of the pitmaster and their craft. Here, there was no story, just packets of Kraft BBQ sauce. It felt impersonal, like the heart of the place was missing. The sides didn't step in to rescue things either. The potato salad and baked beans tasted like they came straight from a grocery store container, unseasoned and uninspired. When the main event falls flat, the sides should at least give you a reason to come back, but they didn't. I wanted this spot to be a hidden gem, the kind of place you recommend to friends when they ask for local flavor. Instead, it was the kind of meal you forget as soon as you walk out the door, and that's the real disappointment.

I am not sure how I have never found this place before now, but I can tell you that everyone else has. This place was packed! Parking was a nightmare. I cut off a cop and stole his parking spot. Yea! Stick it to the man, Adam! Giant community tables full of buffet goers. I wasn't sure if I could find a seat. I was impressed by the size at that point and then realized on the way out there was a whole second floor as well. It is freaking huge! When you pay, there is a little old lady that douses your hands with sprays of sanitizer. I did not care to partake, she did not care, and insisted. We aren't buddies. You can see the stank face she gave me. I don't care though, hater gonna hate. The buffet is rich with country foods. I was in love from the jump. Fast moving buffet food is my jam. They had all the things I like and tons of other things you folks like. I made two trips, I barely got most of the second down so I didn't get to enjoy dessert. That's ok, I like protein way better than sweet things. Thank you Allah for statin drugs! I had all the fried things! Fried chicken livers are some of my faves, especially if there is mashed potatoes and gravy involved. The fried chicken itself was great. Hell it was all good. I see why it's so damn busy. I think it was like $16 maybe. That's with a drink and endless food and dessert. My server was such a sweet lady and the bus staff were great too. They made sure you didn't want for anything and never had a dirty plate in front of you. I will be back as soon as possible. Planning a visit now! '26 - 102

I genuinely don't know what happened in that kitchen, but Mama Hamil's food was fucking disgusting…read more The fried chicken was dry as hell, with barely any moisture or flavor worth talking about. The fish was somehow even worse because it was so over-seasoned that I could barely taste anything besides salt and seasoning. For a place that's supposed to serve comfort food, this was anything but comforting. And the desserts were NOT saving the meal. The cinnamon rolls were dry and rubbery, like they had been sitting out way longer than they should have. The ice cream didn't taste right either--it had a strange flavor that made me question whether it was even fresh. Then there was the cake, which literally smelled like fucking fish. I don't know how a cake manages to smell like seafood, but somehow they pulled it off. Then I went down to the line expecting the so-called "freshly cooked" collard greens to at least be decent. Nope. They came out looking like fucking slop. The presentation alone made me lose my appetite, and the quality definitely didn't make up for it. At this point, I was wondering if anything in that kitchen was actually being made with care. But don't get me started on the customer service. The waiter was extremely rude and acted like we were bothering him by being there. He was throwing things at us, including towels, straws, and other stuff, instead of simply handing them to us. He was moving so fast and carelessly that he even splashed me with water. That's not just bad service--that's straight-up disrespectful. Overall, my experience at Mama Hamil's was terrible from the food to the service. Dry chicken, over-seasoned fish, rubbery cinnamon rolls, questionable ice cream, cake that smelled like fish, sloppy collard greens, and rude customer service is an insane combination. I came expecting a good meal and left wondering how this place has the audacity to serve some of this stuff to customers. Based on my experience, I definitely would not recommend it.

I also liked the number of available sauces to further season the food. Service was fast and efficient. We were seated quickly and our drink order was taken and filled shortly afterward. Staff was really friendly and helpful when we had questions. Soon, our order of meats and veggies arrived and the cooking began. The containers tend to take a fair amount of space on the already small tables so keep that in mind if you order a wide variety of meats. We had to stack the containers as we cooked the meat but the server removed them pretty quickly. One really neat feature of the tables I enjoyed was a plate warmer at each seat location, at least in the booths. That helped keep the cooked meat warm while waiting for the other cooking food to complete. Very nice touch. I will definitely return the next time. I'm in town.
