Ms. Bettina or whoever was in the back cooking did not come to play, not even on a Sunday. We both had fried chicken. It was deeply seasoned, moist, and crispy in that flaky sort of way that I think only old people can seem to manage. For sides, we had greens, Mac and cheese, and yams. Everything was superb but if I had to give one a lower grade than the rest, it would be the mac and cheese but only because the cheese didn't have much kick. The people were kind and attentive. I was happy to discover this gem. It is close to my mom's house so if she's not cooking, then im coming down the street. As a Mississippian, I pride myself on good Southern Soul food. And this is 1 spot that hits just about every box for me. They have seats for dining in & tvs. I went on a Sunday right before they were closing at 4. It's already hard enough to find a good soul food spot open on a Sunday. The staff took my order over the phone and I got there 15 minutes later and it was ready. I tried their fried chicken with some creamy mac & cheese & dressing. Now prior to this Ive had similar meals at other locations and was not impressed. This spot definitely made my visit! The food was so hot, good, and seasoned well; even my mom was impressed. So that's a great sign. I would definitely be back. read more

I was originally excited about trying something different like Bettina's Soulfood Kitchen in downtown Jackson. So, I drove to the other side of town to try it out. The service was average (no problem). The mac & cheese was good; greens were bland/average; cornbread needs work (fa real); :-( hamburger steak must have come out of the frozen section at the grocery store that they just added gravy to. They were not busy at all. The price was too high as well. I spent $18 for an average lunch plate that I could have gotten at the grocery store. I was also extremely disappointed when they said the "yams" were not ready and wouldn't be ready for another hour or so. NOT READY?!?!?!?! That's exactly what I had a taste for and went there for. I will not be going back there. I give it like a B (really a 7 out of 10). Honestly, I try hard to support black-owned businesses, but lately I have been disappointed because it seems like they slack a lot and have mediocre service that does not stand out from the rest. I'm trying to find a good plate lunch today and really wanted to order take out but I couldn't find a menu anywhere, I found 5 different phone numbers to make an order-all of which are disconnected and the only online presence is FB and Instagram and after using someone else to look up those pages-neither are up to date and both have the different numbers that are all disconnected. idk. Ambiance Bettina's has a very warm and welcoming environment and you're greeted as you enter the building. They have the option to sit in or get your order to go (in person or by phone). We opted to sit for lunch after church and our waitress was Ms. Barbra. Our orders we taken and served promptly! Food My food was served hot and fresh. I had a fried chicken plate (dark) that was seasoned amazingly with the right amount of crisp. God awful tasting food! We were sooo disappointed. The macaroni was BLAND! The collared greens were absolutely gross, bland and weird tasting. The baked beans was the saving grace. The ribs were a good size but tough with a little flavor of smoke. The ribs were chewy, fatty and grisly. How dreadful! We're feeling gassy and sick. The macaroni was mushy and bland overlord with to much gut wrenching cheese. It looked good but was horrible bad. The collard greens had a weird gross flavor and oddly seasoned. The baked beans were good. I'm sure you only care about the compliments. As you should also care about the constructive criticism. I'm sure you can do better as a cook. This place should be packed out every day, pulling in $1500 or more a day if your food was delicious. It's mediocre at best. People won't complain they just don't come back. My honey enjoyed the red beansare and sausage, green beans, mac and cheese, and raspberry swirl pound cake. Lunch is served from a steamtable. One serving is $8.95. Bettina says she offers a full breakfast. She changes the lunch menu on a daily basis. Fridays are a little.more expensive because your choices include ribs or catfish. This food is amazing!!!!! We are new to Mississippi and have been told that the people here can burn some food! We tried this restaurant because the Yelp photos were mouth watering. So we went after church. The restaurant was decorated so lovely and clean. The staff was warm and inviting. The food perfectly seasoned and hot. The smothered chicken was ok, the mac n cheese was really good and mashed potatoes were alright. You get about 2/3 choices of food and that is it. Food is held in a hot table, and was kind of pricey. Just left Bettina's, and I agree with the rest of the reviews. The space felt warm and inviting, the service was good, and the prices are very reasonable. Bettina and her son were very kind, and still served us, even when they were supposed to be closed. I ordered a simple breakfast, with eggs, grits, toast, & bacon. I didn't expect much from eggs and toast, but she made it exceptionally tasty. It really does remind me of my grandmothers' cooking. I wish I could have stayed for lunch. This was a quick find for us so we could feed our children and continue traveling home from our vacation. I am so glad we found this place because it was delicious!!! They had a little food bar set up where you could choose a meat and two sides, a roll or corn bread and then a piece of pound cake. The candied yams were the best I've ever eaten.
