Yum yum! Good ole smoked meats and traditional barbeque sides! You know when you pull up to the parking lot and there are no spaces, the food will be the bomb. I stood in line waiting behind six or seven people as the man in front of me complained that he would pass out if he didn't eat soon. He even suggested that I would too! *crying laughing* I finally reached the cashier after staring down the lemonade canister for fifteen minutes. The lemonade looked heavenly, and it did not disappoint. I am tempted to drive back there now for some, but I digress. I also ordered a rib tip plate with cole slaw and french fries. The cole slaw had much too much dressing for my taste, but it was decent. The fries were simple crinkle cut. The tasty tips beckoned me to nibble on them on my drive back home, and I obliged. I love that the meat was served without sauce. I don't usually eat it. The meat was so good, it didn't need sauce. Really good southern barbeque. I wasn't hungry and neither was my SO, but my SO wanted to try some real Mississippi BBQ so we stopped by here. Sylvester's is literally a gas station off the highway outside of Jackson MS. My SO ordered pork ribs with sides of baked beans and potato salad. The cashier was nice enough to point out that it would be cheaper to order the same thing as a rib plate, which he did. I just got one chicken wing just to try something. We also saw the others workers being super nice and polite to other customers. As I just had the one chicken wing (delicious) I'll let my SO take it from here: After eating our way across Mississippi I wasn't really hungry at all, so I ordered my rib plate to go. I thought I'd try it while it was warm though, so we sat down for a moment for me to try a quick bite. Big mistake. The first bite of the rib was succulent, juicy, flavorful, exactly what I was hoping for. This was a five star rib for sure. I knew they made their own bbq sauce though so I got up and asked the cashier if I could get a side. She somehow managed to tell me that it was in the to go bag without making me feel like an idiot, so I sat back down and dipped my rib into the sauce. My second and fatal mistake. Sweet, tangy, very mildly spicy, and another flavor breaking through....maple syrup. I tore into the second rib, then the third. Ignoring my overtaxed stomach and forgetting that this was a to go order I ripped into the fourth, then the baked beans (fantastic, I think they also had maple syrup) and the potato salad (also great) and then back to the fifth rib before I realized what I had done. As I write this I am in some level of pain, but it was worth every bite, and I'm actually somehow salivating thinking about the several ribs I have left in my mangled to go box. Sylvester's is the reason we try really hard to save five star reviews for the really outstanding places. Wow! This place is wonderful. We tried the rib tips , pork steak, baked beans and Mac and cheese everything was delicious. The pork tips were tender and falling apart. The pork steak was fork tender and favorable. Everything was smoked perfectly. Baked beans were as good as candy and the Mac and Cheese creamy and wonderful. The sauce was amazing. I bought two bottles to take home. The service was excellent and professional. They could not have been nicer. The restaurant is clean and atmosphere inviting. This is about 5 miles off I 20. The people are friendly and everyone is greeted. You can eat in at or take out. We ate in at the cute red checkered table cloth tables. Now to the real story - the barbecue is amazing! After reading reviews on Yelp we decided to try this place. Well it is a one and done. Service was fast but the food was awful. My husband and I both had the pork sandwich with a side of beans. Both of us had rib plate with BBQ beans, Mac 'n cheese, & potato salad, about a cup of each. Had 4th side, but passed on it due to generous servings. Got 5-6 ribs on each plate. The BBQ is AMAZING!!! So You will definitely have to wait in line to order and get food. The wait on food wasn't as long as the line to order. But the wait was well worth it. I ordered the rib tip basket and 1/2 slab of ribs! The meat comes without sauce on the meat, but the give you plenty to add if you like. I ate my food without sauce, and it was great. It's really tender and served hot. The staff are very busy but they are nice. They keep you updated on your order status as you wait so you don't sit around wondering if they forgot about you. The best bbq hands down! I make it a point to stop here every time I come to MS. They offer every kind of meat you could want: ribs, beef or pork sausage, rib tips, etc. the sides are good! And they even make their own barbecue sauce! This joint is popular so be prepared to call ahead or wait in line. Today we came at 1115am and within 20 minutes, they were out of ribs. That lets you know how good this place is. Fall off the bone meat, friendly staff, and tasty potato salad. I always leave satisfied. Just FYI for those who are gluten-free, the bbq sauce is gluten free and you can get your meat without bread. I opted for potato salad and baked beans for my two sides. The ribs are really good, well seasoned. They come dry rubbed, bbq sauce on the side, with 2 huge sides, and bread. The potato salad is store bought. The fries need season. But those ribs are incredible. Nice Smokey flavor. They sell their bbq sauce as well. I'm not actually a fan of it. It's edible, but the nutmeg and cinnamon are too strong. Taste more like a topping for sweet potatoes. I ordered the cheeseburger. Man this thing is massive. Well seasoned. Smokey meat. It was good. The sweet tea is phenomenal. My son had the lemonade, it's a premix, but it's ok. But that TEA!!! Yes! Give them a try! The cashier was friendly enough. The order was out in about 10 minutes.
