Stopping in here was simply on a whim of Bridget W.'s, but in all the craziness that unfolded during this year's El Dorado Wine Passport Weekend, Bumgarner was my favorite stop. Maybe it's because I've been to so many wineries in El Dorado wine country, and this was a breath of fresh air? Maybe it was Figgy the Greeter Dog? Maybe it was the nearly private tasting my group and I enjoyed here while others were out and about rushing to collect stamps? (Bumgarner's tasting room in Camino was participating in Passport but this newly opened location was not.) All were ingredients for a truly memorable time, I found. The wine is also excellent. Try the Barbera and the Fiona if you come by, and if they happen to have any of their famous cider, definitely try that as well. Or don't, I'm not your momma. These are but suggestions. ;-D

After leaving a disappointing tasting up the street at Colibri Ridge, I was super excited to see that Bumgarner Winery has opened a second tasting location out in Fair Play! Although this location wasn't participating in the Passport Weekend (oh how I hope they do in the future) I instructed our lovely driver to stop here so I could introduce some of my friends to this fantastic wine. We were immediately greeted by Figgy, the sweetest winery dog, who led us into the tasting room (adorable). If you're not familiar with Bumgarner, you definitely should be. They're the kind of winery that pleases a red wine drinker - and they also have the best Tempranillo in the region. And that cider? Oh my, you have to try it!! Although this location doesn't have it at the moment because they are brand new, both Project Runway and I agree that we'll be back with our refillable bottles to take some home. Also, most of their wines are bottled in eco-friendly reusable flip-tops, which you can bring back for a discount. I can't wait to come back and have a picnic here when they're more fully functional and have additional seating. Let's hope they add this location to Passport next year (and offer a tasty vegan option like they usually do at the other location). This is a real gem in Fair Play. Check them out!

Bumgarner did a great pairing with their food friendly wines and tasty tri-tip and watermelon salad. They also make a wonderful cider. Our server was very friendly and helpful making for a pleasant tasting experience.

It prompted a return to the winery, although we had purchased the 2007 from his tasting room in Camino .

But the tasting room is open and spacious. We came for the Pinot Noir, but found only one in the tasting. Grenache Blanc, Grenache, Barbera, and Syrah were our other sips. We needed a prepaid reservation. Corn hole and bocce ball areas are also at the tasting room site. Private parking are.

It's unassuming from the front exterior, but we were pleasantly surprised by how sleek it is inside. And that wine cave for members with the enormous antique bar and handcrafted walnut tables? Simply gorgeous. Although everything I have tried on my visits here has been quite good, the real star at E16 is the award-winning pinot noir, which is also nearly impossible to find in this region! If you talk to the owner, Robert, you'll quickly learn that pinot is his passion (I can totally relate) and his partnerships with revered vineyards throughout California are how he's getting such delicious pinot noir to Fairplay. I've now been twice to the tasting room with friends, including most recently during Passport weekend, and each time have had a terrific experience. I bought a couple of bottles of their pinot and am also seriously considering joining their wine club. E16 is like a slice of Napa (without all the pretentiousness) dropped right in the heart of Fairplay and I am all about it. Definitely stop in and try the wines!

I very particular about my wines so when one I my friends mentioned this spot and it was new to me hey! Why not? Everytime I come here the staff is always amazing and extremely friendly and helpful. I love the events they have here as well especially when they do the Patriotic events. The grounds are beautiful and you can definitely do a picnic here as my friends and I have done a few times. The wines are delicious. There isn't a bad wine I tried yet. They actually have some of the best wines in my opinion in the area. The tasting room is cute and cozy with plenty of seating and popcorn to much on as well. I I truly enjoy coming here and is one of my favorite wineries hands down.

Perfectly Peaceful…read more My husband and I recently spent several days at GRI. From the first glimpse of this Tuscany-like villa, we knew we were in for an incredible experience. Our suite (one of five) was absolutely stunning. The Innkeeper (the first of three amazing Innkeepers) had the gas fireplace lit, and wonderful instrumental music playing, as she showed us our suite. The food was phenomenal: gourmet breakfasts, 5:00 wine and cheese, and homemade cookies in the evening. My favorite part was the patio with a fire pit overlooking the vineyard. It is difficult to find such peace and serenity anywhere. Aah... We anticipate return visits

Perfect location to wine taste on property or venture out to the growing number of top rated wineries. Walk amongst the vineyards or take out one the beach cruisers or trikes for a ride around.
