We were in the area and had not been to Toogood for a few years. They have a good selection of wines and ports. We checked in at the front wine area and then went into the tasting room (which is in a wine cave). We were served by Elizabeth (hope I have the name correct) who took great care of us. There are so many wines to try (mostly reds) to try. We had been previous wine club members (didn't stop because of the winery) and knew all of the great wines to taste as well as try some of their current ports. I took my friends here and we had an absolutely amazing time. We sort of got a private tasting because it wasn't a busy day and got to speak to the employee there that was really sweet and had a great conversation. My husband and I have been meaning to try this winery out because they specialize in court. I find a good port is rare and they have a vast selection. There was no food when we went, which was totally fine, but I recommend getting some food in your tummy before going as port can be a stronger wine. Christina was the person who poured for us and she was a delight. She had a vast knowledge of the wine we were tasting and even let us try some wine that was straight out of the barrel. The setting is gorgeous. We drink our wine in the cave, but you can also have the option of drinking your wine outside by a beautiful waterfall. If you do overdo the wine, they do have many houses that you can rent. The drive was much more pleasant than going somewhere further away full of beautiful scenery. They not only have port wines, but other wines that are delicious as well. We could not resist becoming wine club members before we left. read more

My husband & I have been coming to Too Good Winery for 20 years. We finally joined the wine club in 2010 and in 2020, we became port wine members. Saturday, Sept. 20th, 2025, we invited my Dad, brother, sister n law & my niece to go wine tasting with us. My husband and I have always enjoyed the wines, port wines & future wines, and especially the wonderful service and kindness of their staff. I will give it three stars for the service. The wine cave is cool. However, I just was not a huge fan of the wine. They give you a lot of tastings, probably too many, but they have a ton of different wines. We missed the rush. I can't imagine how loud it would be in the wine cave if we had not missed the rush. I would not go back, only because the wine was not my favorite, but again staff was great and accomodating. read more

5 stars. Beautiful winery the people that own this business care and have one of the most beautiful wineries in CA. I've pulled up to their location in the dead of winter or the heat of summer throughout the years and you always see them straight working hard and doing a great job. Rarely do you see the level of dedication to a business and it shows in the wine. They have a huge selection and when you taste them some you will like some maybe not and some you will love. I'm not an expert in wine but have visited every winery damn near from Mendocino to Temecula over the course of the last 18 years and believe toogood is top 5. Like a few others, we were introduced to this winery via Groupon. It's quite a distance from home but our group of 4 turned the trek into a weekend adventure. Living in the city, I breathed in deep the crisp, cool air and took in the budding spring, mountainous view. Definitely appreciated the beautiful location! We arrived for an 11:30am tasting and was quickly greeted by a host who ushered us in to the caves. (Shh, don't tell, but one of our hosts was a friendly feline who seemed to know she was in the midst of cat lovers!) Staff was perfectly balanced between entertaining and professional, and we all felt it was a very enjoyable tasting experience. As for the wines, I have no complaints. There weren't any significant standouts for me other than the Barbera in the futures barrel, working its way towards bottling. The ports were tasty as well. We each chose a bottle to bring home and our winners were the 2017 Zinfandel and 2021 Pinot Noir Rose. All in all, it was a nice introduction to El Dorado County wine tasting. :) read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. It's sad this winery was passed down because the original owners use to care about their business. The 1/4 owners wife Kayla is a liar so get everything in writing before you trust what she says. They up charged us to get a (private chief) who was actually the restaurant right down the street they ordered from and their wine is mediocre at best. A winery with an incredibly fun staff. Club member and Yelper Michelle H invited some of us to join her at a tasting and her fall member pick up. We were given a choice of patio or cave seating. On the beautiful Nevada Day weekend the patio with waterfall and snack options would have been great, but the cave tour and tasting inside was just as fun. TooGood offered so many choice combinations for a 6 tasting flight. I teamed up with Yelper Debbie P so we could taste 10 different reds. Allow almost two hours if tasting with a small group. It gives you time to savor the tastes, go over so many specials, memberships, and pull your order. Because it was Nevada Day and I was with a member, I scored an INCREDIBLE deal. A mixed case for $211. I chose from all their wines except the two reserves that retail for $125. My selection included $80 Bomb Diggity, $44 Tuscan Tango, and $38 Malbec- the deal made the purchase just under $18 a bottle. Fun wines at fabulous prices. The lane from the main road to the winery is long and narrow, take the drive slow and enjoy the vines. Plenty of parking at the top at the tasting area. read more

Me and my friend were able to visit the tasting room In Placerville this weekend and the only thing I regret is not visiting the actual winery and cave, bc this tasting room and the wines blew our minds! Wine cave tasting! This is the 2nd wine cave I've been in, the first being Wente in Livermore. This cave was buzzing with laughter, flowing wine and a sommelier that previously worked at Live 105 in the Bay Area. This guy is good at engaging and he obviously enjoys what he does. There is an excitement and enthusiasm with each pour and each sale he makes. We were caught, hooked us and reeled us in. Looking forward to my wine delivery in the next few weeks... Will never ever come back to this establishment again with the new owner. I do not recommend. This place used to be one of my top 3 wineries, before ownership changed. This was the last stop on our wine tour/ monthly wine pick up. We arrived at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday evening and was greeted by the owner who was standing outside and proceeded to tell us, "you've only got 15 to 20 minutes max before we close." Even though their hours posted say they're open until 6 p.m. I responded with a smile and said, "20 minutes will do" to which he retorted back "you don't tell me how much time you have, I tell you." Rude a bit much? Yea. Instantly changed the mood. Horrible customer service. After being told we could head back to the wine cellar, with limited time mind you, there was one woman who was just as rude as her boss serving us. I had a sour taste in my mouth the entire time. It was not enjoyable at all. Nonetheless, my Mother had a monthly pickup to do so we went about our business, to which she ended up spending well over $400!!!! As we walked out, I walked past the owner and said, "aren't you happy you let us in? She just spent almost $500 in 20 minutes!" He retorted something back but I was already off to the bathroom so I couldn't hear what he said. I was so disappointed. I have ranted and raved about this place for years to my friends and family. Never again will I recommend to anyone or buy their wine. There's many other places in the area that I enjoy and would much rather give my business to. read more

It's wineries like this that are giving the entire Sonoma and Napa county a run for their money. We are wine club members, and much prefer visiting Somerset/Fairplay in El Dorado County. TooGood has everything. More wines to taste than any winery in the area, so please please please bring a DD. Toogood will get you feeling too good to drive. By far the best part of this winery is the adventure through the Wine Cave for barrel tasting. Don't get lost! Ask for Tom, or as we call him, TooGood Tom. We love him so much he's pretty much family. He helped us throw my mom an amazing private birthday party this year, there is no wine question he does not know the answer to, and he has the patience of Job when dealing with silly winos that sometimes fall into an opening in the winebox piles. While up in Placerville from Reno for the Passport weekend wine event we visited the Toogood store front next to the Cary House Friday checking in. We met Steve who was bar tending and he was fantastic and friendly. He found out we were up for Passport and then told us to visit Toogood estate for their tasting and food pairing Saturday. Been a member at Too Good Winery for 10 years through the Paul years and unfortunately now with the new owners. We originally got to meet one of the daughters and she reassured that the quality of a family feel would remain. My membership was in their reserve 6 bottle a release club. Due to our latest interaction that will be permanently terminated. My girlfriend and i entered the outside tasting room to check in. As happens my card on file needed updating I explained we would do that but wanted to complete our tasting then would update all payment information. Aggressively the representative told us unless we paid upfront we would not be allowed to enter the cave tasting area. I have literally bought thousands of dollars of wine from TooGood Winery over the years and TooBad that the new owners treat the customers like numbers now. This place is AHHHMAZING! Ok, so to be fair, I purchased a Groupon for this winery. Which was a rocking Groupon. It was for an extended wine tasting, plus each person (2 of us) could EACH take home a bottle of wine. And any bottle of what they're pouring. They have a bottle that's $100. (we didn't take that one, but we could have) We lucked out, the day that we went was Bottle your own wine day! And I mean truly bottling your own wine. You get to choose as many bottles as you'd like. 1, 2, 10, 20. The price goes down with the amount that you choose. So 1 bottle was $50, or if you got a case it was $9.49 a bottle. Um, yes please. Luckily we got there fairly early. About 11:30 and there was not a lot of people bottling. I'm sure it got packed later in the day. It was such an experience. Bottling, corking, labeling and foiling all of your own wine. So cool. And everyone that worked there was super friendly and helpful. And they want you to get the full experience, they don't show you and let you do it, they sit you down, tell you how to do it, and send you bottling. So rad. We then went into the wine cave for the tasting. That was so much fun. We had the cutest girl helping us, it was her first day working there, not gonna lie, I'm totally jealous of her job. We had a blast with her. The wines are delicious, and everyone was super knowledgeable. We ended up leaving there with 15 bottles of wine, and a wine membership. So to say we liked the place is a bit of an understatement. Of course we'll be back, at least 4 times a year to pick up our shipments! Fun! read more
