I went to Bungalow's for dinner. We had to wait a little for a table, which was fine. I had the bungalow boozy margarita and I was a good drink. We had a starter of Mac and cheese balls and oh my god they were delicious! I also ordered a fish sandwich with garlic fries on the side. The sandwich was pretty good and they fries weren't bad but they were a little bit more garlicy for my liking. The service was great and will definitely be coming back. read more

The food prices are ridiculous because the food is terrible but it was nice enough to sit there and hang at one point but they lost their way and have become scum. Great American Restaurant bar for the Rockaways. It's right on the water of the bay with beautiful outdoor and indoor seating. Menu is on the smaller side but they do a good job with the flavor. Burger was great! Juicy, nicely cooked and healthy portion for 15 dollars. The Fish tacos were nice too, but they could have been packed with a little more flavor to spice up the fish. My family and I love seafood so much and we all think that this is our new favorite seafood go to. We have nothing bad to say about this place or their food. It was our first time here. Because it is summer time, we asked to be seated outside. There was a 35 minute wait but we ended up waiting for 19 minutes only. We ordered Calamari which is my 7 yr old's favorite. The portion was more than enough for the 4 of us. My 11 yr old ordered the Seared Divers Scallops and it was the best scallops we have ever tasted. We also ordered "The Dock" which is a mix of oysters, shrimp, mussels, clams, lobster and crab meat. Also, we've tried their Lobster Bisque. We stopped over for dinner after a day at the beach. I walked into the thai place next door first just because there was live music happening and wanted to check out the scene. We ultimately felt like burgers, so chose Bungalow. On a weekday it was fairly busy, but indoors was expectedly pretty deserted - and air conditioned just so you know in case its scalding hot when you need some grub/drinks. Sitting outdoors on the deck was really lovely, and being on the bay was a nice change up from the other landlocked options. We started with chicken fingers - which I was pleasantly surprised on the proportion sized basket - maybe 6-8 fingers. My friend and I shared a full lobster - we were in a vacation state of mind after all. It's listed at market price, and we payed $26 - not bad I think. We asked for broiled, and it was deeelicious. Served with butter, steamed broccoli and a potato choice. We opted for french fries which were a little disappointingly generic and undercooked. Our other pal ordered a cheeseburger which looked average - no frills. He said it was a-ok. Our waitress was nice, but dropped the ball a few times. We didn't get our basics for a while, and had to remind her several times about our order - but ultimately it worked out.. just not my favorite way to end the day having to hunt someone down in a restaurant because I need a fork and napkins to eat my lobster. She did tell us about their frozen drink options - tonight it was mud slides and screwdrivers, but usually its pink lemonade. We had had a full day at Connolly's with the pina coladas so just stuck with water and after-dinner coffee. Nothing super special - but lots of surf and turf, pasta, pub options - and the outdoor bay view hit the spot. Would definitely come back for a sit down lunch or after-beach cocktails. Bathroom wasn't a problem while we were there tonight - but the women's room only has 2 stalls, I could see a big line forming on a hoppin' night. And, I'm really curious about the skee-ball machine I saw which was not turned on. Could up my rating real quick if that thing was ready for action. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem and it makes me want to own a boat so i can pull up in my boat and get amazing service with a great view of Jamaica Bay and the A train going back and forth from a distance. This past week, we got the sea bass tacos, the chicken quesidillas and the shimp roll. I'll start with the tacos. Im not a fan of sea bass but these tacos were really good. They come as a pair and the mix of the toppings with the sea bass makes the tacos yummy. The shrimp roll is seasoned shrimp on a roll. The shrimp is fresh and well seasoned. I really dont like the bread that it comes on but other than that, i enjoyed the meal. It came with French fries. The last thing I'll mention is the chicken quesidillas. They were my fave meal that night. I absolutely enjoyed them and I'll be back for more. Very cheesy and just the right amount of chicken/ cheese blend combo. This place is a vibe. There's just something about eating food with a scenic view. I'm going to miss the good weather, I've spent many nights here this summer. The service is great and everyone is really friendly. Most importantly their excellent SERVICE is always consistent , Katy and staff (from the host, to the bartender, to your server, to the busboy) are welcoming and the food is delish! Yesterday's end of day treat included yummy bananacolada frozen drinks (yasssss), blue point oysters and their perfectly done epic fish sandwich (a personal fav). I've been coming to bungalow bar for years, always refer people here because I've always loved the vibe.. until today. My partner and I were sat between two families and it wasn't particularly comfortable because if someone got up from their chair, your butt is literally in someone's face. As our server came, a lady with grey hair, didn't get her name, we kindly ordered our drinks and I said" would it be ok if we moved? It's just a bit tight here, "she said very brashly, "No that's for 4 people" and wasn't interested in accommodating us, she offered for us to move to a visibly full bar. I insisted it's just a bit tight, another way of indicating "HEY IM UNCOMFORTABLE! CAN YOU ASSIST?" She scoffed and said it's not even tight here and walked away. At this point I feel even more uncomfortable because our server wasn't interested in helping us, and I happen to also work in restaurants so I was hypersensitive to the treatment-- because I would never speak to someone this way. She still brought our drinks and we indicated we are gonna leave, because I don't want to sit somewhere I don't feel comfortable. Still she brought a check though the drinks were untouched. So we paid and left. In this business you should be mindful as a server/bartender OF YOUR TONE. It's not what you say it's how you say it. I have been here a couple times before and had a decent time. However, I went yesterday with my wife and 6 month old daughter and had a dreadful time. I am not sure how I failed to notice the sign that greets you even before you walk in but it was pretty noticeable yesterday. It is basically a list of rules including stuff like no backwards hats, baggy pants, long shorts, etc. Honestly, the sign set a bad tone for us as it felt like they were essentially saying "no black folks" without coming out and saying it. There are a few housing projects nearby so maybe that colored their experience or whatever but it did not make us feel great coming through the door. We head to the back bar, grab a table and then I went to the bar to order. There were 3 or 4 white male bartenders and every bar patron (about 5 of them in total) was white. All the tables had a white people at them. My wife and I (and daughter) were the only people of color. I stood at the bar while the white male bartender served several of the patrons beers, drinks and food. I wanted to be patient until they finished so I didn't say anything. The main bartender had a beard but I didn't get his name. Anyway, he walked back and forth and didn't even look at me. The same thing happened with the other bartenders. This went on for at least 15 minutes. Again, I was trying to be patient but they were obviously ignoring me. Finally, after walking back and forth not and not acknowledging me, the bearded guy finally look at me and I said "can I order?" "Yes" he replied sternly. No smile, no warm greeting, nothing. Stone faced and irritated. I ordered my drinks and paid and as I was walking to my table, I heard him say "thanks brother." It just really felt strange and unwelcoming but I didn't respond. We drank our drinks and left. It was a pretty bad experience and we will likely never go again. The service was horrible and the vibe was not welcoming at all. Avoid this place if you are a person of color. I think that is how they want to keep it. It was really sad. read more

Great spot to relax, enjoy the views, and have some good conversation. Ambiance: It looks unassuming from the outside but when you get to the back patio (with its new awesome roof), you feel miles away from the street. Jet skis, boats, bridges, and water try and take your troubles away. Very relaxing, good music, chill vibe. The order: We got little neck clams, pretzel sticks, spinach and artichoke dip, and I got fish tacos. The frozen drink machine was down, but got some huckleberry lemonade. Taste: The clams were not great and didn't seem very fresh. Very disappointed in those right off the bat. The pretzel and dip were both great, but you don't go to a seafood place for those. The fish tacos were alright, not the best but not the worst. Service: The place was popping but the service was great. Our server was attentive, quick, and very friendly. I had a great time last night at Bungalow Bar!! The view is lovely and just being on the water in general simply brings me joy. The bar was jamming and the crowd is very diverse. It's always nice going places where you'll get to experience diversity! I mean, it is New York after all. My friend and I had the Nectarine Tea Cocktail and it was light, refreshing, not sweet, and packed a punch! Perfect. I hate when drinks are overly sweet! We then had a drink made with vodka, cucumber, and lime but after a few of those, sadly, I have no idea what they were called lol. However, they were absolutely delicious and refreshing. The one drawback is that at one point, my friend wanted something minimal to put in her stomach and asked the bartender for an order of fries. Well, he told us that the kitchen closed two minutes prior. That's really unfortunate. I mean, two minutes before? It's a bar but it's also very much a restaurant! No one says last call for food here? He then proceeded to tell us that McDonald's is right next door and the fries are good there. I liked him a lot. He had a nice personality and was very attentive, but are you serious? McDonald's is next door? Wow. As a Rockaway local we have been to this place many times, however after yesterday's incident we definitely won't be back. My father and his friends got there around 7pm and were enjoying themselves, drinking ordering food, etc... At 10pm some jerk came up to my dad's group and told them very rudely they have been here too long and they need to leave because someone else wants the table. Needles to say their bill was about 300 dollars so they were not just sitting there and not ordering drinks or anything. Good bye bungalow plenty of other places to go drinking in Rockaway. Ok I'm gonna start this Review off by saying that the food here is some of the best sea food I've had in New York. We had shishito peppers, two orders of calamari, muscles, and I personally have the scallop dish which was absolutely to die for. Everyone else I was with liked their dishes as well. That said,The way people are treated by the welcome staff is unfreaking believable. First of all when you come in there is a board full of dress code rules which are super racially charged (ie no backwards hats, no pants that are beneath your waist... but whatever... insular nyc community) The primary hostess I spoke to was doing a lot of steering. She was giving out 90 - 2 hr wait times, When there was clearly a faster turnover going on. Hey... I didn't mind the wait I was excited to eat there & enjoy the nice views. So I happily put my name down, and I double checked that they would really be 90 minutes before we got a table and she's very rudely said yes definitely "there's nothing I can do about it." So we happily went back to the boardwalk because it was incredibly crowded and there was no spare seating whatsoever. Within 36 minutes I got a text message that a table was ready for me. Then I got a text asking are you still coming? I told them yes I we are heading back we're walking as fast as we can and you told us 90 minutes to 2 hours for a table! She said OK thanks. When we arrived 15 minutes later the same rude hostess told us that we couldn't get the next available table but what we could do was go "right back on our wait list" That there are people here who "follow the rules" "& don't mind waiting" And there was "nothing she could do about it" In my mind I'm thinking...... Well... You could do your job of being a hostess and report even remotely accurate wait times. We waited. I don't know... Like I said the food was o n p o i n t. Particularly if you like seafood. The atmosphere was all right, The views do a lot to improve on that. The music wasn't very good. funny enough they had a wedding going on inside of their venue which had an excellent DJ but the music they were playing in the restaurant itself wasn't very good. I'm not the type of yelp reviewer to slap a one star review on to a restaurant because of strange exclusionary vibes and a rude as hell gate keeper. It's simply first come, first serve. And the fact that we can't just take food to go unless you sit there and eat first is also absurd. Delightful Afternoon and the staff is great! This place was packed but we never felt neglected. Our waitress was constantly checking in refilling our beverages asking if we needed anything. The food was yummy... artichoke and spinach dip served with warm pita triangles and the wings were not toooo hot with crisp, fresh celery and carrot slices. Burgers all around that day with one quinoa and avocado salad... I'm forever trying to be good!! We were stuffed and happy. Inside was cool with the a/c on but we sat outside under an awning which allowed for a beautiful breeze but no beating, hot sun.
