Inn on Columbia - Tell us it's wedding season without telling us it's wedding season.

    Inn on Columbia

As an alumna of Ithaca College, I like to return to Ithaca often. The Inn on Columbia is my go-to…read moreplace to stay, and, when my niece also enrolled at IC, it became the go-to spot for my brother's family, too. The Inn is a unique collection of houses and rooms close to downtown Ithaca - walking distance! Upon arriving, I'm greeted by hosts Madeline and Kenn--and the most amazing smells from Madeline's kitchen! Between the local apple cider and the amazing breakfasts, I tell myself calories don't count at the Inn. Some things to note: -Kenn is an architect, see if you can get him to talk about the history of building the inn -The Inn is dog friendly!! -Snag the gazebo is you're wanting some privacy -Bring hiking boots and explore the nearby trails -Book early... there might be times you can be spontaneous, but for big weekends (alumni/reunion, commencement), the rooms book up WAY in advance

Breakfast offerings change daily and she uses the freshest ingredients; I'm super picky and every option sounded scrumptious. It was hard to choose just one! HIGHLY recommend the Gazebo room; it is a standalone room situated towards the back of the property and is very private and romantic. The decor is simple, yet elegant. It includes an oversized jet tub, spacious bedroom and bathroom and mini fridge. There is also a fireplace in the room and is stocked with lavender toiletries. My boyfriend and I appreciated the attention to detail in this room. We will absolutely be back! Madeline and Ken were happy to recommend activities and restaurants as well. There is a lot to do in the area and I cannot wait to visit in the fall. Parking off-street, wi-fi, delicious cookies and juice served in the evenings, beautiful grounds and the list goes on. You will NOT be disappointed with this lovely bed and breakfast.

This wouldn't have been a problem if we hadn't been sat at a 2 top (with 3 people) that had been open for 30 minutes prior to us being sat. It also wouldn't have been a problem if the food was good. Our table ordered the 2 omelettes (the kimchi and a build your own), the wich-wich sandwich, and the french toast. The sandwich bread wasn't toasted, which just made it a very soggy meal. The french toast was raw, cut so thick it wasn't surprising that the inside of each slice was soggy with uncooked egg. The rosemary potatoes were... fine; obviously pre-cooked and just reheated because they were not remotely crispy or particularly fresh tasting. The real gripe was with the kimchi omelette. It was fine going down, not overly flavorful despite having a very flavorful ingredient. However, it was not fine on the way up. And trust, it came back up. Spent the rest of the day sick and throwing up. The only highlight was the coffee; the brown sugar and spice latte was great, would return for that and only that. Would not recommend, actually would recommend any of the other breakfast places in Ithaca over Dewitt's.

Cant give a cup of not so hot water with tea bag on side. Water should be boiling hot and given in a tea pot so customer can pour himself and steep. Country breakfast: Sour dough bread excellent. Homemade jam off the hook. Potatoes incredible. Turkey fresh and yummy. Prices fair. Quality food. Great service. Almost 5 stars! Fix the Luke warm water and tea. Will be back.

You can build your own breakfast sandwich with choice of egg style, cheese, meat and bread. They have a few locally made sourdough options that are absolutely stellar. The sandwich was delicious, but I do wish that the menu had some more light options. Iced coffee was strong and there's liquor onsite which means you can order a mimosa to pair with brunch. They have various indoor / outdoor seating options and the patio was really lovely. Service was speedy and friendly.

Speaking of the decor, the bathroom on the first floor featured a beautiful antique sink ornamented with depictions of various birds. Very cool! The full breakfast is a nice deal at 18.95 for coffee, fruit juice, fruit cup, pastry and entree. My friend enjoyed the eggs Benedict and I enjoyed a waffle. The waffle was a little cold when it arrived at the table, but not a huge deal since I had coffee. Service was a bit slow and the server really seemed like she did not want to be there or was having a really bad day which was honestly the only thing supremely detracting from our experience. This place could easily merit 5 stars with better service. Walk around before or after you meal to take in some of the exterior including the sunflowers, ducks and mural.

Not the best bread I've ever had but pretty good. Also got the patatas bravas which for me was my favorite dish. Super flavorful. We got two dishes the Spring cavatelli and the moosewood burger. The burger was really good but the pasta is where I could see why some people threw around the word bland. I don't want to say it was bad, it just was very light and didn't have a rich flavor like most pasta dishes. We got the matcha panna cotta to go which was also pretty good. Overall I think it just depends on the dish you get but I was fully expecting straight up bland food based on other reviews but that wasn't the case. The cavatelli could use a little work though. We also tried the thai curry, burrata, peach salad. The peaches were not ripe, but the crunch was a nice textural component. Burrata and curry were fine. I wish the curry was spicier. I liked the thin ribbons of cucumber in the burrata dish though. Maybe I am being too harsh... I had rather high expectations coming into Moosewood, and the food wasn't bad per se, but nothing really wowed me. I would eat here again, but I wouldn't seek it out.
