Stayed here for two weeknights and was very comfortable with my stay. Between the smooth airport pick up process, check in, clean rooms, very helpful event staff, and great catered food, I had a great experience! Before I list the "room for improvements" I just want to say that the people and the service at the Statler were awesome. Every single person we interacted with was very friendly, helpful and efficient, really top notch. The entire hotel and room were impeccably clean and the food at the Italian restaurant was delicious! That said, this hotel needs some personality STAT. For a leading...THE leading hospitality program in the country, I expected the Statler to be on the cutting edge of hospitality innovations, programs and desaign but it really has more the vibe of a VERY generic Hilton circa 2004. I know they have a bit of a captive audience here but it seems they are neglecting an important part of the hospitality experience... a sense of the stay being special or delightful. read more

First time staying here for this alumnus. The location can't be beat if you are staying mostly at the university, as I was for a conference. Views of campus, great service, excellent food make this a plus experience. Remember, it's a teaching hotel, so give some leeway to the students running it! Negative- the price. Over 500 a night is steep for a nice, but standard, accommodation. While I appreciate I was allowed to bring my dog, an additional $100 for the stay is unnecessary for zero damage or extra cleaning needed. I'd stay again! read more

I can't speak highly enough of the Statler. Every point of service was absolutely stellar. The campus is beautiful. The lake view rooms don't really offer much of a lake view, but it's still a gorgeous sight. Housekeeping was wonderful. We also dined about the lounge as well as Taverna Banfi. Both offered amazing service as well as tasty cuisine. The breakfast brunch at Taverna Banfi was especially incredible. Valet service was prompt and friendly. The people employed at this hotel are truly what makes it special. I can't recommend the Statler enough. read more

Wowowowow! Absolutely loved our stay at this gem of a hotel. The room was comfortable and cute, the staff beyond accommodating, the location obviously perfect for our visit to campus, and the room service absolutely to die for. This was a good place to stay with our baby. The room had a lovely analog white noise machine, the option of either a wooden crib or a pack-n-play for him to sleep, and it was fairly dark. The hotel restaurant manager even remembered our baby's name across multiple days! I also heard that the Statler pays a living wage to its regular employees, and part-timers are students at their acclaimed hotel management school. It was very interesting to learn the history of the school. I would highly recommend the Statler if you're visiting Cornell and can afford it. read more

I stayed at Cornell for one night, costing $400 and $25 for parking and my expectations were high due to its reputation as the number one hotel program in the country. Upon entering the lobby, we were greeted with a musty, old smell. The receptionist was cold and unwelcoming, reciting her lines like a robot, making us feel like we were checking out books from a library rather than checking into a hotel. Our room, though clean and offering a beautiful mountain view, the interior feels of a standard Sheraton. Definitely not a $400 a night hotel. Next thing we encountered a bug on the ceiling the size of a blueberry, we have to figure out how to get rid of it so it won't fill on our bed. We were in town for a meeting the next day, but given our experience, we will not be staying here again. read more

I am an alum and I had the great pleasure of staying here for the first time 30 years after I graduated. Lovely in all ways. Amazing service! Beautiful and comfortable rooms. The shower was divine (so much good water pressure and lots of hot water)! Everything you'd expect from a 4 hotel. The walls are thin though, so noise can be an issue. Someone's phone alarm went off quite early in the room next to ours and my husband woke up very annoyed. It's the perfect location for touring the school with your high school junior! My husband stayed at the Statler Hotel last month. (He doesn't write reviews, but his experience there was so awesome, that I felt it important to write it for him.) He was very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel, quality of the food in the restaurant, but most especially the service he received. He had forgotten all of his medications in his hotel room, which he did not realize until he arrived at the airport. After calling the hotel, the employees (possibly Cassandra & Adrianna...he's not sure of their names), managed to retrieve the medication from his room and get it to the airport via the shuttle driver, who was also an amazing help, since he brought it up to the security line. The Statler is very lucky to have such caring, conscientious, and professional employees who really go out of their way for their guests! read more

This is a lovely hotel, in the heart of the campus. Their rooms have a fantastic view, and they're really comfortable. The bathrooms are super nice, and the room service/house keeping is good too, you don't even notice that the staff is almost all student run! Their lounge area is nice, and front desk is helpful. Restaurants are also really good, I had the buffet breakfast often - it was good but the food was almost always cold, hope they change improve it. I would come back here next time. read more

Well the staff is really great the night of check in, but the hot water is tepid, the refrigerator is warm and the Internet connection won't let my phone log onto YELP or anything else for that matter! Thankfully they put my groceries in a fridge at the front desk. Tomorrow I move to a different room, by no fault of theirs, I hope it's better. Day number two, different room, (FYI some are shower only) the water is warmer, the internet is pumping. The staff have still been stellar. Our conference is wonderfully supplied with local treats, fruit, nuts, beverages etc. Their attention to the freshness and cleanliness is nice. read more

Excellent customer service which is especially noteworthy since the hotel is mostly staffed by Cornell Students. I have received better service here than I have in many "luxury" hotels. My room had an excellent view of the Cornell campus and was clean and well appointed. We had cocktails and dinner in the Regent lounge. Despite being crowded that night the wait service was excellent and they make some of the best unique cocktails i have ever had. read more

Room: The room is spacious and seems recently renovated. Bathroom is a little small, but I'm glad that they replaced bath tubs with shower rooms. Amenities: Pretty basic amenities (and really all you'd need). The gym is quite small but it doesn't seem to get crowded anyway. Free WiFi is stable most of the time, only lost connection once during my 4-day stay. Service: The staff are very friendly and helpful. Since this is where the hotel managements school students get trained, occasionally you could get someone who's very new and could take a little longer than usual. At check out, I was promised to get my final receipts over email but never end up getting them, but it's a minor glitch. In general I'm quite happy with my stay and would recommend it if you are visiting Cornell. read more

Top notch hotel right in the heart of the Cornell campus. Undergoing a complete renovation in the early 90's, the hotel still retains a modern, upscale look and feel. But it is showing some wear. And the bathrooms are the smallest I've seen that qualify as "full" baths. They have a lounge-bar that's cozy, friendly, and includes among the beverage options a few Finger Lakes wines. Make no mistake--like a "learning hospital" this is a "learning hotel" where students from the school of Hotel Management earn their stripes in customer service. What they lack in experience, they more than make up for in enthusiasm and courtesy. There is a core group of hotel professionals, as well, that provide the continuity in staff, vital to any business. Location, location, location. If you have business on campus, you can stay here and skip the car. And soak up the great views of Lake Cayuga. The only downside is that the prices are double to triple the other places in town. However, the other hotels in Ithaca don't match the quality of the Statler. read more

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in at this price point. After a long day on the road, wanted a quick and easy check in process. No clear valet, cars permanently parked in their valet line, etc. At a minimum, having a sign for the valet and an attentive team for valet would be helpful. Instead i had to walk inside to get the valet to come out and when asked where to park, she said that people just park in the circle (even though it's temp parking). Since when did valet become an afterthought instead of a moneymaker for hotels? Outside of that, the room is basic. Nothing nice, very simple, and extremely outdated. Gross carpet, crappy hairdryer, the usual terrible coffee maker, etc. Biggest issue was the personnel here. It's a great learning opportunity (for the students) to have students run your hotel, but this all goes to waste when you don't have someone with experience leading the ship. Tip: save your money and head to the Marriott in the Commons. Much better service, nicer rooms, and less of the 1990s rooms. The restaurant and bar at the Statler, however, was well run and food was great. read more

Don't plan your event there. I found the head of catering and event management extremely difficult and hard to get in touch with. She seemed to come up with every excuse to not communicate directly. Did not provide any guidance in how to best plan an event. Unfriendly and difficult to work with. Perhaps, she should appoint someone who like to work in hospitality. I was severely disappointed and it was apparently known that they were chintzy on food during events. I will not be planning anymore events there in the future. Not worth it! read more

This place trains Hotelies to be awesome, and it shows. Whenever I would pay for people to visit Cornell, this is where I would put them up, and for very good reason. The Statler is a treat. I've had numerous formal meals here, and on all occasions the food was sublime, the service was excellent, and the views were enticing. The beer selection focuses mostly on Ithaca-related beers, which is slightly limiting, but ultimately a smart choice - there's a lot of amazing stuff to try in the area. Simply put, there is no better hotel - or hotel restaurant - in all of Ithaca. read more

A very nice hotel with a good bar and walking distance to most anything you'd want to do on Cornell's campus. The rooms are up-to-date with comfortable beds, nice showers, and all the normal amenities you'd expect from a mid-to-high-end hotel The hotel bar is nice with a few good beers and a decent selection of scotch. My guess is that this extends to the other drinks with the selection being limited, but perfectly decent. There's also lots of good seating and generous helpings of chex mix whenever you order. read more

In some 1950's Abbott & Costello-esque snafu, my room's phone line was "crossed" with another room's. Thus I was receiving a Mr. Addleson's late-night room service calls (one of which the kitchen was calling to regrettably inform him that they were out of chocolate ice cream) and even his numerous 5 a.m.ish wake-up calls. You just can't beat the Statler when you're in town to visit Cornell. The hotel is full of history, understated rich decor, and dutifully attentive service- much of it is run by Cornell hotel students in their work/learn program! In that you find a passion for the hotel service industry. The rooms aren't big, but they aren't meant to be. It's a prime location smack dab in the middle of a beautiful campus, and if your room is facing the right direction, you have a breath taking view of sage hall and the rest of rolling Ithaca misting beyond the hills. It's all the little touches that culminate in a fluffy symphony of comfort. The keycard printed with a beautiful photo of the clock tower. The kickass view. The iHome dock for the music lover. The plush, pristine bed that I wish I could take home. The modern, well defined lighting. No garish fluorescents or random spots of darkness here! The little pivoted reading lights above the bed. The bathroom light switch that glows in the dark. The silver and gold faucets. Fit for a King! The Aveda shampoo/body products. All natural, my brand of choice. I'm obsessed. The eco friendly high quality hair dryer mounted to the wall. The makeup mirror swinging out from the wall with magnifying capability. The pristine, smooth cold tiles in the bathroom. The shower with one knob for temperature and one knob for water volume. Oh when can I come back here and get my company to expense my trip? read more

I made myself wait a couple weeks after our stay to write this review. I wanted to make sure I had time to calm down after a rather aggravating stay and unfortunately, I'm still pretty annoyed with our stay. I really enjoy The Statler because it allows me to get a large room when I travel with my girlfriend and the service is always great. This time though one was totally gone and the other just didn't seem to be there. It all started a couple days before our stay. Danielle Cortez from the front desk reached out to me to reconfirm our reservation. I quickly replied and felt assured that everything would be alright. However, when we arrived at the hotel, this was far from the truth. We had been downgraded to a normal room. The manager on duty did her best to try and upsell this situation, but at the end of the day, if I had wanted to stay in a small room, I would have booked a small room. The worst was her telling me how much she "drastically reduced our rate." She just dropped it to the BAR for a normal room. Drastically reducing would have been cutting it far below the normal rate. Once this extremely poor planning on the hotel's part happened, I feel like The Statler veneer started to peel away. I noticed the lack of usable open space in the regular room. When I'm alone traveling for business, this isn't an issue, but two people fitting in this little room starts to get a bit cramped in the mornings. When we went to Taverna Banfi to get some dinner, I noticed where the service started to really slip. I know the staff wants to get out on time, but the whole time it just felt like we were being a bit rushed. Dinner was fine, but for over a hundred dollars and the tip it brings, wait until our appetizers are done to bring out the entrees at least. The place where the hotel excels is in personal interactions related specifically to the hotel. The front desk is super friendly and at least seems to care about how we're doing. Probably the room switch was out of the current shift's hands and they had to handle this situation. The valets also continue to be great. But, being immediately compensated for the quality of your service, I'd be really surprised if a valet provided poor service. And, at least the hotel and our rooms were still very clean. But, I can get a clean room and a friendly "How are you?" at just about any hotel. During my time at Cornell there were almost no options besides The Statler for middle tier hotels or better. In the last few years though, Marriott and Hilton have realized the opportunity for some of their brands to expand into Ithaca. Now with a couple more competitors, is it worth paying double the price for a smaller room and similar service? I really don't think so. The suites might be worth the extra cost, but the regular rooms for two just aren't. Overall our stay was good. Had we booked a regular room, I might have said it was the usual 4-5 start stay. But, after such a terrible start, I can't give it anymore than a 3. Maybe next time I'll save a couple hundred dollars a night and get what I paid for at least. read more

We went to Banfi's Restaurant last September to celebrate my recent wedding. To begin with, the salads were skimpy and unappetizing (3-4 lettuce leafs). The entres were not hot and the scallops were over-cooked. The check, however, was "hot!" We left hungry and angry. Stay away. Not worth the risk of another disaster. I failed to hear back from two of my complaint letters to the Executive Chef. Shame on Banfi's. Shame on Cornell. read more

An overnight excursion led us to this lovely hotel within the Cornell University campus. We would definitely return. Every employee we encountered was cordial, polite, friendly, well-spoken and each deserves a full five-star rating. From the woman who met us in the check-in parking circle to the front desk and everyone in between, this was an over-the-top establishment. Keep in mind that you pay for parking, $12 a day. When you pay a premium for lodging, it seems like a charge that should be covered in the hotel charge, I mean, where else are you going to park? Valet parking is available. The room was every bit as luxurious as one would expect in a fine hotel. There was a Keurig coffee maker, two luxury-cotton bathrobes, roomy closet, ironing board, mini fridge with water bottles, and a cozy desk and sitting area. It was very nice and super-clean, kudos to housekeeping. The bathroom was completely accommodating, again squeaky clean, and included nice mini Aveeno toiletries and a mini-hair dryer. This might sound silly, but the towels were exceptionally thick and wonderful, even the washcloth. So often, hotel towels are as thin as a tissue. Plus there were plenty of towels available. There was a handy clothesline in the bathtub area. There were a few minor down sides to the Statler Hotel. The location might bother some people, since you are ON the actual campus, you have to be fit to walk (the major, steep hills) to town or drive. The TV did not have instructions and it was not clear how to get channels, however, we called the front desk and someone came to the rescue quickly to guide us; and during the night, the clock was like a full blue moon, flooding the room with blue light, we had to turn it upside-down. Also, there were not clear instructions on the climate control and it got stuffy then cold, would have liked a sheet outlining how-to for both a/c and TV. (You also have to not mind end-of-semester partying in-town if you go during semesters, but that's anywhere you would stay in the fun Ithaca area, not just at the Statler Hotel.) Every person was so professional and efficient. Check-out was a breeze, we had the Ithaca is Gorges package, which came with a bottle of Finger Lakes wine, a coupon for $20 in the dining room and a tote bag. I'd recommend the Statler Hotel and you too will be impressed with the fine service the students and professionals leading them into the hospitality field provide. read more

I was very impressed with The Statler Hotel for my recent seminar. Knowing the reputation of the Cornell Hotel Administration program, my expectations were high and I was not disappointed. While my stay was not perfect, I felt the genuine caring attitude made up for any shortcomings. I stayed in a very nice suite, with a gorgeous view of campus, trees and the hills surrounding Cayuga Lake. The suite was roomy and very well designed. I instantly felt comfortable as the decor was modern and warm at the same time. I appreciated the Keurig coffee maker, the very nice and comfortable pull out sofa in the living room area and the half bath as I was sharing this room. I got the king size bed, which was comfortable but the down pillows, all 4 of them were terrible. I am a bad sleeper to begin with and this is my biggest problem when I stay in a hotel and the Statler was no exception when it came to bad, non supportive pillows. The first night I almost called to inquire about traditional foam pillows and I should have, all three nights I suffered from little to no sleep. Do not get me wrong, the suite was very comfortable. The shower was HUGE and the Aveda products were lovely. There were 3 thermostats in the suite with 3 air handlers and I really liked that a lot. I found the hotel to be very warm in general so I kept my room cool for sleeping while the living area warm for my bunk mate. The maid was amazing and she made my bed and shower look just like check in each day, not an easy task for a shower the size of a small bedroom. And she replaced my missing Aveda products each day. :) The service ranged from average to very good. The first night the bartender was not able to handle the large drinkers that were my group. There were amateurs ordering ridiculous apple and chocolate martinis monopolizing the bartenders time. How selfish. The glassware was down to little to none and the wine was being served in warm wine glasses. The delicious wheat beer on tap was not served with lemon. Those 2 things should never happen in a bar the size of a thimble and at a place like Cornell Hotel school. While charming, the bartender was struggling, I wanted to jump back there to help him out it was so bad. The next two nights, Jess handled the group with aplomb. To be honest, Jess was the most professional bartender I have seen in years. He was smiling, jovial, knowledgeable and efficient. He made eye contact, remembered names and cocktails, impressive. Kudos to you. The banquet food ranged from average to very good. I found most of the cold vegetable and root vegetable salads tasted the same. They served the same salad dressing on the buffet table all 3 days. Sometimes the plates and glasses were not set up before the food and drink. They needed about 2 more workers to replenish the offerings, IMO. Our group was large and aggressive and many took more than their fair share. The breakfast buffet was the weak link with powdered eggs and duplicate dishes every day, yawn. The coffee was delicious. I HATED having to grab my own silver ware roll up before entering the dining area. The seated dinner on the last night did not meet my expectations at all. The service was amateurish and rushed. They pre set dessert plates in the middle with petit fours, really? Tacky. The pre set salad was boring and whisked away before I was finished. The entree was better, stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Unfortunately I am ending with the negative, but I did enjoy my stay here. I also want to mention, my second day while in the bathroom getting ready in the morning I thought I heard a noise, but my TV was on...I come out of the bathroom to be greeted but a guy who completely startled me. He asks if I called for valet. Um, NO and why the hell did you ENTER my room????? This was a major snafu as well. Overall I would stay here again and recommend it highly. read more

Great location -- even if you are just needing lodging for something in Ithaca that is not related to Cornell. The Hotelies in training alone make this an interesting stay beyond anything else you would be accustomed to in the 'real world'. Room service was quick, valet was quick, checkin was quick -- and the rooms are generally comfortable. HOWEVER -- if you have a room booked where you are going to use the pullout couch for an extra bed, be warned! Not that any of these are made for first class comfort but the one in the room booked for this stay had to have been less comfortable than prison mattresses for I doubt those even have the springs the size of dinner plates poking you in the back. read more

Spent two nights here on a business trip - so much nicer on the company's dime. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the rooms were huge, the beds also huge and so very soft and comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small (I hate when the door bangs my knees while I'm sitting on the loo), but the water pressure was wonderful in the shower, and all of the complimentary bathing accessories were Aveda. I was very happy that the heating/cooling system in my room was able to keep up with my constantly changing temperature - if it weren't impossible, I'd've sworn I was starting to go into menopause. The system was able to keep up with my fickle demands. The fitness center is so-so: 2 treadmills, two ellipticals, two bikes, all ProForm. 3 TVs, but none set up so you could actually look at them without craning your neck while on a machine. One bench situated in front of an array of free weights. Complimentary towels and water. Nothing to write home about but a decent place to have a run when the weather was gray and rainy this morning. Had breakfast at the in-house restaurant. Had the b-fast buffet which was stocked with scrambled eggs, eggs florentine, bacon, the fattest sausages I've ever seen, granola, fresh fruit of all kinds, all flavors of yogurts, cereals, oatmeal, banana pancakes (kind of tough and dry), and lots more. Save for the banana pancakes, all very tasty and ringing in at $15, including choice of coffee, tea or juice. I enjoyed my stay and slept so soundly. Will dream of that comfortable cloud of a bed tonight while no doubt tossing and turning on my own. If I go back to Ithaca, I'd stay again, assuming the company is paying once again. read more

I stayed here last February while on a business trip and everything from service to amenities were top notch. In fact, I ended up getting snowed in and had to keep staying additional nights due to bad weather - the hotel was great about checking in with me and being helpful while I was stuck. The highlight of the Statler is the beds. Rooms overall are updated with nice furnishings and their beds are incredibly comfortable. Service is professional and you'd never guess it was run by students. I ate in the restaurant several times and other than being a little strange to get the prix fixe presented 5 minutes before the full menus, food was tasty and it's a nice place to dine. read more

Lots of little frustrations. No place to eat on a Sunday afternoon. I asked for a glass of red wine with my room service meal and got a tiny bottle of cheap pink sparking wine instead. I didn't complain at the time, but was shocked to find that tiny bottle cost me over $16. The service at the breakfast buffet was spotty. The first day it was fine and the second day it was very hard to find someone to fill my coffee cup. (Also, one of my big pet peeves, when I thank a server I don't want to hear "no problem!" in reply. Of course it's no problem. It's your job.) I'm still on my stay here and simply floored by the hospitality. I flew very last minute to Ithaca to be with my grandmother who has entered her final stages and is nearby at the Cornell Bridges care facility. I extended my stay and they did not have the same room I was in available. In moving to a room that was not quite what met my needs, the person helping me asked the purpose of my Ithaca visit. I told him why I was here. After I left the hotel for the day, they called and told me they had had a cancellation and would it be ok if they moved me to the new room. I told them yes and thank you. I returned many hours later to find they had upgraded me to a beautiful room with a wonderful view and had left me a personalized, beautiful, heartfelt condolence card signed by all the front desk staff and a beautiful dessert tray and thoughtful amenities. I was floored, touched and their kindness broke through the numbness and shock I had been in all day and allowed me to finally feel my grief. I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 purely due to the food that was served for room service. I had something different every meal and it was hit and miss. Some meals were very good and some were average for their prices. The hotel and its staff were all top notch. The maids did a great job of cleaning daily during an extended stay. My only other complaint which is very minor is that the workout facilities were a little small. But Cornell Campus that the Statler is located on is beautiful! read more

We were on the top floor facing the lake. The view was fantastic. The bathroom was small. It's not a top notch hotel but you can't beat the location if you are looking at colleges. We didn't eat there because Trillium and collegetown are so close. The gym is tiny. read more
