Interesting inn, first off the inn has a very active outside bar scene with music. The good is that the noise ceased at 10:30 as advertised, the bad the inn management does not enforce the guest reserved parking areas and parking is a challenge on a busy bar night. Rooms were clean, tv offered regular tv programming and multiple subscription services. Rooms are small and one side of bed is almost against the wall. Disappointed that the advertised rain shower head was not functioning as one since it needed cleaning. Dislike that the best tv viewing was from the bed. It is on an extremely busy hilly street with the associated road noise from trucks. A number of restaurants are within a short walk. read more

we visited ithaca for the many water falls during fall foliage and stayed here for a weekend in otctober 2021. over night guests are provided off street parking which i was super happy about. prior to booking, we were concerned about the noise. bar argos with its open patio would be right below our room. however, we did see that the bar closed at 11pm. so we gave it a shot. we really liked the old house and its charm. plenty of really nice details with its vintage decor. we booked the room that's named the red queen. it's on the second floor with one of its walls adjacent to the outside tent, hosting the bar guests. because of covid, you can check in and go to your room without having to interact with the front desk. this was fantastic. we checked into our room. it was as pictured. very cozy. the windows had top down/bottom up blinds. there was an extra panel of glass on the inside of the original historic window, that was nice. translucent curtains draped over the blinds. if you like or need black out curtains, i would bring your eye covers. the blinds do a good job but light still come in. the bed wasn't the most comfy, i felt spring coils sticking into the side of my ribs and was sore from it in the morning. the room had a few nice amenities. two bottles of italian water were a nice touch. you can make coffee and tea in the room. but we opted for the espresso machine in the main area downstairs. fresh creamers are close by. at night the noise from the bar wasn't bad. it's great that the bar closes at 11pm. the crowd wasn't big, we're assuming coz the colder late october weather plays a part. each night when we got into our room, i would go down to the bar and order a couple craft cocktails. first night i ordered a martini and a clarified pina colada. both excellent. second evening i ordered the forager and flora & fauna, also excellent. on the second night, we grabbed a prepped cheese platter from the local wegman's to accompany our drinks. the tv in the room is outfitted with apple tv as well as multiple channels including hbo max which was featuring Dune 2021. that was kinda amazing. like any old house and its charm, there's always the unwanted noise that comes with it. even though for the most part, other patrons during that weekend were respectful with the noise, it still carries much louder than say a modern house and/or a modern hotel that is built with noise cancelling and sound proofing materials. people walking by your room will creak the vintage wooden floors much louder than a modern one. closing the door to exit the building travelled to our room like a big thump. on sunday morning when people were leaving, we definitely were woken up multiple times. overall, i would be tempted to try other rooms in this Inn the next time i'm in town. the historic Inn has a charm that modern hotels can't beat. if you're a light sleeper, definitely bring the ear plugs. read more

Hotels in Ithaca, NY are very expensive. I booked here because it is affordable, and I felt comfortable staying here by myself. Argos Inn near downtown. It took my about five minutes to walk there. It is situated in a nice place. There is traffic around rush-hour. Overnight guests have set-aside parking spaces. There is also a classy bar that is open from 4-10. I don't drink, so I did not go to the bar. I stayed in the gray peacock room. The bed was comfortable. I like that the sink was outside the room, because if I brought my husband along, I would be able to put on my make-up while he showered. I need to store most of my clothes in my suitcase, because there was not a dresser in the room. The room had clothing bar with 4 hangers. I rated the hotel four stars, because I could hear the people in the room upstairs walking around. My first night there I had some heavy walkers above me until about 12:45 a.m. I could here their muffled voices, but not the things they were saying. The second night there was pretty good. I turned on the fan in the room. I only heard luggage being wheeled around, and a slam, similar to a body falling on the floor around 11:30 p.m. The owners of the inn need to carpet the floor in noisy rooms. I would change my review to a five stars if they listened to my suggestion. Every front desk people who I met was super nice. The front desk person this morning was Kristen (spelling). She has a master's degree from Cornell. She was very helpful to me in answering some questions. The breakfast was very tasty! It is a help-yourself breakfast that is served from 7-10 a.m. This is nice for people who would rather eat in their room, or you can socialize with the other guests. There was a nice mix of pastries, two types of cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt. Two types of juices were on the table, and the coffee was good. Tea, hot chocolate and instant oatmeal were also offered. I would stay here again, but on a top floor. If you are going to be a future guest here, be quiet during sleeping hours! read more

Argos is amazing. There is a bar portion of the inn that serves unique drinks (such as mushroom Prosecco cocktails) and has an atmosphere unlike any other in Ithaca. It is rustic yet hip. Quaint yet expansive. There is a nice outdoor area with lights and seating, and there is often times a food truck. The bar is nice, and the inn is ever nicer. The atmosphere is casual, dimly lit, and service is good. Our party enjoyed drinks (such as Moscow mules) and an appetizer with a name that escapes me. The appetizer was a charcuterie board with pickled vegetables that were truly amazing. Huge portion, it was able to serve four+ people with some leftover as picking food. Another guest ordered a pumpkin, honey, nut toast which she seemed to like. Ithaca is unique for its hippie, relaxed, outdoorsy feel, and Argos caters to all these themes while also creating a unique, young/hip atmosphere which can be hard to find in the town. Just shy of midnight on a Wednesday night in July, I sat hunched in a car borrowed from my mother. Fingers trembling, I looked up the Argos Inn on my phone. The aged Garmin that I had powered off when I thought I was done driving for the night wouldn't help me now. I hit "call." The voice on the other end of the line was kind and patient, and remained so as I babbled out my life story: this had been the first time traveling, let alone booking a hotel, since the COVID breakout. Unwilling to "burn" my accumulating vacation days, I had worked all day remotely in Massachusetts before gunning westwards for six hours, chasing the fading July sun towards Ithaca, where I had never been. The no-frills hotel where I had planned to lay down my head before proceeding to Watkins Glen the next morning for a swim event turned out to be horrific. I was no princess, but couldn't stay there (conditions described in separate review). This was the first time that I had ever complained about, let alone left, a hotel! It was time I learned a lesson about cutting corners. Sure, I had gotten lucky scrapping by up 'til now, but I should realize I wasn't in Vietnam or Cambodia; this was Amurrrca, where what you pay is what you get. And, oh, was there room, sir, at the Argos Inn? The voice replied that there was in fact space, and that on account of my late arrival, that he could give me a discount. This was a generous gesture, considering that I was prepared to pay anything even while eating the non-refundable reservation that I'd just run away from. Even the full prices were on par with what the other chain hotels in the city were commanding. Relieved and curious, I asked him to describe the rooms that were left. He complied and I listened before suddenly becoming aware that I was being ridiculous and should just drive over there instead of keeping him on the phone. Surprised by my proximity, he said that he was taking off for the night, but that one Tippy would meet me - in fact, she'd be expecting me, and I would most easily find her in the outdoor bar area. I thanked him profusely, firing up the car. Before hangup, he asked, not unlike a 911 responder, for my name. I told him and asked him for his. He said that he was Avi, casually adding, "the owner." A little over a mile away was a world away. My edgy exhaustion morphed into a the-night-is-young anticipation as I parked in a spot gracefully marked for overnight guests and walked towards the twinkling bar and outdoor seating area. In the soft glow of string lights, diverse young people relaxed, sipping their last drinks and chatting quietly. Two smartly masked staff, stood by at the gleaming outdoor bar - a small structure of its own in the courtyard. This "new normal" felt just fine after all. Soon, I met Tippy and chose one of the two rooms she showed me (#103). The keys were in an adorable lock box outside, also containing a parking pass for the dash and a miniature scroll tied with a red ribbon. Once situated, I hoovered down the gin gimlet made from scratch by the bartender with a brandied cherry on a sustainable metal stick and blue bottle of Saratoga bubbling spring water on the side. Before turning in, I requested a nightcap of Jameson, poured over a big ice sphere with a can of club soda on the side. I brought it all to my bedside, devoured a complimentary snack bar as a delayed dinner, and supplemented it with dehydrated Costco snack mushrooms that my mom had insisted I take "just in case." It was a feast. Blissed out, I stepped past the black-and-white toilet to the concrete, limestone, and glass shower and had a ball. The towels were so fresh I rolled them into formations on the floor after using them because they deserved better than just being chucked on the floor. The whole place was like this - like home (a fancy home!), a place you instantly care about, want to take care of, and yearn to revisit. The bed was cloud nine. I forewent the TV for the seemingly decorative poetry, fiction, and short story books under the nightstands. Reading from each of them, I went back in time, admiring the deliberation that must have gone into placing them there in case someone opened them. The next morning, I had back to back Zoom meetings in utter peace, then checked out promptly at 11 a.m., not without separation anxiety. I was allowed into the staff only parlor (common area before the pandemic) to play the old black Steinway & Sons New York upright piano. Once Chopin rolled in his grave, I went to the sunroom to work, then out to the patio in the breeze for a couple of more hours with the patio WiFi. Between work emails, I stole glances of Avi, now working along side his staff, hosing down trash bins and overseeing everything with the inimitable tranquility of ownership. I respected and envied this. When it was time to hit the road, he said I was free to stay as long as I wished. Eyes stinging in the wind, I grinned and said I wished I could, but had to get going. read more

I have stayed in several hotel/inns in Ithaca; there is nothing like this in the area (possibly even the state). A mansion that had humble beginnings as a revolutionary war cabin (!) the restoration is stunning. Handcrafted detail in every corner, the Argos Inn opened just this year. Because of the transition of the bar, I would have given it 4 stars, but I have confidence that Argos is making noise complaints a top priority. I spoke with the owner about his plans to address reviews on here regarding noise. He was aware and is working with his staff to make changes addressing the issue. I had no complains about noise during my stay. The Inn is beautiful and the rooms are exquisite. I am looking forward to staying here again. read more

So, I hate writing bad reviews, but this place needs one. Not because of the place, which is quite charming and decent, but rather for the service, or lack of service that we received as guests. Booking our first getaway since the pandemic, we were excited to book the Argos Inn and visit the Finger Lakes. We had two issues with our stay, but, worse than the problems, were the difficulties resolving them, attitude from staff, and general inconvenience we experienced. The first issue was that after a long drive up, we were checked in to a room without a working TV. The hotel does not even offer Live TV, instead a bunch of old Apple TV devices that did not work. The check-in info promises live tv through Hulu, but that is a lie. We could have gotten over the TV issue, but the bigger issue we experienced was that we booked a room with prepaid breakfast, and when we woke up looking for coffee and breakfast were told there was no breakfast being served due to the pandemic, adding insult to hunger, when we requested that amount refunded (almost $40 per day for my wife and I), we were basically told too bad and that we could go into town and buy breakfast on our own. While there were a few people on site that tried to help, neither of the issues were resolved at all. Buyer beware--these guys really don't care about their guests and this ended up not being a good return to getting out there--next time...I would rather stay at at the Marriott or Hilton (for less $) or better yet, just stay home where We at least Have a working tv and don't get the attitude. read more

Finally crossed off one of the items off my bucket list and booked a night stay here. When I first came here to check out the bar, I knew that this place was special. Upon entering the Argos Inn, I was taken aback by the large glass windows and perfectly coordinated vintage/ industrial furniture. My stay here was nothing short of magical. The room I stayed in was so plush. The bed had soft white linens and a nice fuzzy throw. There was heated floors in the bathroom and a nice selection of movies/tv shows on apple tv. The staff and owner were also so accommodating, and really made sure that our experience here was nothing short of amazing. Breakfast was really cute- some baked goods, fruits, tea and coffee. The bar is a convenient spot for an evening drink, and it's easy to bounce from here to other parts of Ithaca. My bf and I had a great stay here. The room was spacious with the most thoughtful details and small touches, like antique ice buckets and furniture, intermixed with modern comforts like nest thermostats and heated bathroom floors. It was actually a cheap stay, considering the off-season pricing ($114), we got upgraded to a king at check in, breakfast was included, and cheap but delicious college-town eats were just 2 blocks away. Ithaca also has lots of cool free activities like the wild bird sanctuary, the old Cornell library, and hiking. Argos also has a killer Shakespeare-themed bar downstairs that was very lively and fun, even though the hotel was at minimal occupancy. read more

It is 11pm. I'm laying in my room wishing that I'd had the foresight to bring ear plugs. The argos Inn is beautifully renovated, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the bartenders are excellent. However, if you care to actually sleep at the Inn, avoid it at all costs for Friday and Saturday nights. Back to the present. As I lay here (in my room I might add, with the door closed and a white noise machine running) with thudding music whatevertheoppositeofwaftingis pouring up through the floor and the rather loud buzz of bar conversations bleeding into my room, punctuated by the occasional clink of glasses, I am reminded of the fact that I have to be pretty pissed off or ecstatically pleased by something to bother writing a review. Guess which one I am right now? If you plan on staying up until after midnight and want someplace that has a very lively bar, than argos may well be for you. If you're just coming for a drink, then the bar is excellent. If, on the other hand, you paid a premium for someplace nice to sleep, you will be displeased should you have the misfortune of staying here on a night when the bar is active. read more

By far one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. Staff was super friendly and was able to accommodate our child which they normally do not do. They gave us a blow up mattress for our daughter and that they impressed me and my wife to no end. Super friendly staff and amazing breakfast! Definitely recommend this place. Be careful at the ARGOS INN... Leaving a wonderful area with a sour taste in our mouth, not all city dwellers from New York are made of cash! The building is beautifully curated and the majority of the staff are warm and friendly, however the hidden charges are ridiculous, don't expect to be notified of them, just expect a pricey bill upon check out. We reserved the room for 3 people based on an internet confirmed price, only to later be advised that we have to pay an additional $30 per night for an air mattress. I can appreciate that late check out is listed in the fine print, however not being verbally advised that you will incur a $100 dollar charge after 11am, even if that is a 11:40am!! You could have spoken to us, not just knock enter whilst we were getting changed and walk away!! This coupled with the fact that we checked in at 9pm two days prior! It was our first time in the Finger Lakes and we will certainly be back, we just wont be staying at the Argos Inn or recommending it to any of our family and friends. read more

The atmosphere was sometimes like living in a 1850s-1920s dream with the vintage furniture and stylization of the little things that really make a place a place and sometimes like a luxury hotel without all the fuss, incredible big beds and sheets modern showers.... Gorgeous restoration, modern comforts, cozy atmosphere, & off-the-charts cocktails I don't generally write hotel reviews, especially not positive ones, but my wife and I were so blown away by The Argos that I feel like I owe it them to write this one. We ended up there at the insistence of a dear friend who spends a lot of time up here. If she hadn't recommended it, we probably would have stayed at one of the big chain hotels in the area. I can't thank her enough - that would have been a huge missed opportunity. When she told me about the "landmark restoration," I cringed a bit - worried the place would be stuffy and maybe filled with doilies. Would the power outlets be sparking? If I'd poked around the website, or read the reviews first, those fears would have been put to rest. Right when you walk in, you get a sense of the balance of modern and old-world style. The front desk is this beautiful wooden hand-crafted looking thing (I'm picturing some craftsperson building shaker-style furniture in rural Vermont maybe?) Over it hangs a chandelier that reminded me of the Dale Chihouly glass work I saw at The Brooklyn Museum (they said it was actually local, which I guess makes sense, since Ithaca's not too far from the awesome Corning Glass Museum). We walked up the gorgeous staircase and then into our room - spacious and flooded with light. There was a big bed, a bit of exposed brick, and a collection of inviting antique furniture, including some plush restored chairs and a wooden secretary with beautiful brass fittings and inlay - ideal for catching up on emails in the afternoon. The mattress was (you guessed it) perfect and decked out in the kind of linens and pillows that make you never want to get out of bed. I would kill to have a bathroom like that - the floor was stone (maybe slate? but with good traction, not slippery) and heated throughout, including inside the shower. It had its own separate thermostat. The shower head was over the top (figuratively and literally) - it must have been a foot in diameter and actually tall enough that I could stand under it (a rarity for me, at 6'3 ). In the afternoons and evenings we would talk the two blocks to the center of town, stroll through Ithaca Commons, and sample from a bunch of solid restaurant options. Invariably though, we would head back to the Argos for drinks in one of the most wondrous cocktail bars I've ever visited - at least as good as the best places I've been to in New York City (and I'm pretty obsessive about food and drink in general). See my separate review of the bar for more on that. After drinks, we'd head up to our room, tweak the Nest Thermostat, climb into bed, and use the Apple TV to tune into the Netflix or HBO accounts that come with the room. In the morning, after a hot shower with that warm floor and plenty of water pressure (another surprise for a restored building), we'd head down to the breakfast room - a big glassed-in terrace with another bit of handcrafted wood in the form of a long communal table. Breakfast was simple, but solid, with fruit, yogurt, pastries and cereal, plus coffee that got the thumbs up from my wife (who has a 20 minute coffee ritual at home each morning) and a selection of high end teas that I worked my way through over five mornings. The breakfast room often also served double duty as a place to hang out with friends and family. For a couple of days, the far end of the table became a workspace for a 1000-piece puzzle - a picture of a lush, lived-in library that seemed in keeping with the place. I saw a bunch of guests drop by to work on it over the course of several days. The whole place is filled with beautiful art books and other diversions that you can just grab and enjoy - curling up in your comfy bed or one of the inviting sitting areas throughout inn. We will definitely be coming back. After the experience we had this time, I can't really imagine staying anywhere else in the area. And I'd go a good distance out of my way for that bar and those cocktails. read more

Nice charming inn. Great location. We had two rooms. I was in the blue peacock room on ground floor and my two friends were on second floor above the bar. The inn is very tastefully decorated. The receptionists are nice and helpful. Apple TV is a nice touch. Mattress is comfortable. Negatives; noise from bar kept my friends awake past 11. Little sound proofing. I was woken up at 6am by stomping feet and squeaking floor from above... I had driven for many hours the previous day so I wasn't happy about this!!! The noise was super loud !!! I told Matt at front desk to ask owners to put pad plus carpet upstairs!!! Bar noise , don't know what solutions for that !!! Definitely went past 10pm... read more

The Argos is a hip place to have a drink but the rooms are very noisy. Forget about getting any rest when the bar is open. There is absolutely no sound proofing in the rooms. Also coffee is supposed to be available at 8 but alas here I sit uncaffinated writing a bad review. read more

Honestly, I don't know what all these people who wrote bad reviews are talking about! I had a wonderful experience at Bar Argos. The atmosphere was cool, cozy, and felt like sitting in a friends living room. I would love to see it in the daytime. It was a very busy evening and when I made it to the bar, it was appropriately staffed and I was greeted quickly relative to the amount of customers that were there. The menu was smaller, but it was well thought out and had an obvious theme of classic, "historic preservation" cocktails. It also looked like they had created some original cocktails, but all went along with the theme of the menu. The bartender answered my questions and made recommendations, which was certainly appreciated on such a busy night. My friend and I tried all of their Champagne cocktails, and they were delightful! We were fascinated by the Absinthe Fountain, which was also in keeping with the classic cocktail theme, but will have to try one of those cocktails next time...which there will definitely be! Bottom line: Beautiful atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, excellent service, and fun cocktails. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

I stayed at Argos Inn when I was visiting Ithaca for a wedding and I wish I could have stayed there longer. I loved everything about this place. The decor, the attention to every small detail and especially the wonderful customer service. The decor is a tasteful mix of vintage and modern. The bed was very comfortable. The service was friendly and attentive. And the breakfast spread was delicious. One of the things that really impressed me was getting an email after I had checked out to let me know that I had left a few things in the room and they offered to mail my belongings (for free!). This is our second stay at the Argos. The first stay was delightful. The second disappointing! The room was not as well kept as the first time. The bathroom floor which previously had been heated was broken. We left the room late morning, but did let the front desk know that we were leaving and that the room could be cleaned. On returning to the room the room had not been done. We complained to the person at the front desk and his attitude let us feeling like he really didn't care. Fortunately for us there are lots of places to stay in Ithaca and so we won't be going back to the Argos Inn. read more

I don't write many Yelp reviews, but I need to write one here because my stay was just great. My room was comfortable, the bar and breakfast were tasty, and the staff - Oh the staff... So I was there for a wedding, and I went a little hard Saturday night. The next morning I could hardly scrape myself off the floor, let alone string a series of coherent thoughts together. Naturally, I left cuff links, tux studs, pants, a sweater, sneakers, a garment bag... Anyway, I called them and the nice woman on the other line (unfortunately I didn't think to get her name) was kind enough to walk through the hotel in search of my belongings, take a trip to the post office, and mail them all to me. The Argos Inn is magic. I've stayed overnight several times, and love to come to the bar for book club or a drink or some music. I've stayed in four different rooms. In each one, the beds are like clouds, soft spotlessly clean high quality sheets and so comfortable. I like the modernity of the rooms and the bathrooms in contrast to the historic preservation of the hotel itself. Its so nice to have the bar downstairs, it feels like going back in time and this is your mansion and you are having a house party. There is often wonderful music. The owner said he's responded to a few guest's noise complaints by closing the bar at 10pm now, though the noise has never bothered me. I always leave this place feeling refreshed, and a little revived and more myself. read more

I worked an event held the Argos Inn yesterday. Of course, I had to research the joint in advance. I discovered that it was a newly restored historic mansion and that it had a bar with an amazing assortment of craft cocktails. Needless to say, I knew what I would be doing after the event. They had just changed over their seasonal drink menu, so one of the drinks I wanted to try was not listed. I was trying to sample drinks with different gins than what I have on the home bar (Hendrick's and Plymouth). I found two beverages that did (Flora & Fauna and In Bloom) and my friend got a Hendrick's beverage (Wax Poetic), which was more "spirit-forward," as the bartender described. That one is on my list for the next time I go. The nice part about working the event is that we got to enjoy the decor during daylight hours AND also got to see several of the rooms. The ones that are completed are beautifully appointed with heated bathroom floors and decorative accents. Every detail (even the bookshelves in the bar, which are organized by color) is curated by the owner. It seems well-planned and designed and when complete, this is going to be a spectacular place to visit/ stay. The only reasons I'm giving it 4 stars as opposed to 5 are: 1) because I haven't stayed overnight there and 2) they're still working on a few of rooms so it's not complete. Classy and gorgeous. I'm not the type to gush over details of a place, but the Argos Inn really deserves the credit for its aesthetics and service. Classy, and totally worth the price when you compare it to the mainstream "luxury" offerings elsewhere. This is the kind of place you would want to spend your honeymoon, yet it's totally affordable for the quality of experience you get. The Argos is also immaculately clean, from the lobby all the way up to the bathrooms. I hope we have another chance to stay here again! read more

Ithaca needed this place on the scene. Craft cocktails in a sophisticated environment with good music. They can also make some nice cocktails that aren't on the menu. Hooray! read more

As cute as Argos May seem there are bed bugs moldy showers, old food and coffee the roof leaks. There's extension cords everywhere can't imagine that meets criteria. The classes are dirty I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more
