Both are fun speech therapy. Then everyone meets up to stretch and sing a little bit. The rest of the day varies each week, but usual there is a guest speaker or performance or group activity. Sponsored by the City of Glendora and Citrus College, the program and services are free. So, come and join the cheap fun! Glendora After Stroke is a little similar to a great dive bar except for the alcohol and drinking. What make it great is not anything fancy schamancy. Simply, it is a place where stroke survivors can make friends and find encouragement from people who share and understand the frustrations and challenges of life after a stroke. The theme song of this group is aptly the intro to Cheers "You wanna be where you can see our troubles are all the same." Unlike a great dive bar, not everyone will know your name and those walking with an unsteady gait or slurring their words are not drunk. Poor memory, aphasia, and hemiplegia are among the many difficult effects of a stroke. If you are facing these challenges, come and vent your worries and see how others are overcoming them.

We don't want to put hazardous wastes in our trash cans or worse dumping it down sewer drains since these wastes can poison the soil & our underground water supply. The city of Glendale has wisely opened up a hazardous waste facility to safely dispose of these poisons in southwest section of the city. Use your gps since it is in an obscure section of the city. This facility is usually for Glendale residents. Proof of residency may be required. There is a limit on how much chemicals can be left per visit such as paint. So I went today, Saturday, 06/27/20 at 9:32am. And the place was closed! Just before writing this review, I went on the website again and called the number. The computer went on and on and ended without providing an opportunity for me to speak to a person nor leave a message. Sad. Having said that, I have been to this facility before and they were open as advertised. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. And the system was very organized. I would go again. And, hopefully, they would be open if their website says so.

Loren Franck (President and Executive Director) was the most informative and personable human being! The website for this service is very resourceful and when speaking with Loren, you get a sense of urgency and concern for your situation. West Side Homeless Outreach has done many works for the homeless population for 12 years through out the Los Angeles area from homeless mothers, mass shelter information, many food program sources, clothing, shoes, sleeping bags, toiletries, and many urgent needs for homeless people who just aren't able due to circumstances to obtain these things during the hard trial of living on the streets. Very compassionate group, they are non-judgmental and literally have concerns for the homeless based on their own personal experience in such situations. I fell in love with this group because of the honest and self-less giving to others asking nothing back in return. Loren's statement to me was the fact that he did not want me to be stranded and hungry as he came to my rescue as I was homeless and stranded in my car with no gas to get anywhere for help - he came to me! I plan to be an advocate for West Side Homeless Outreach in different ways such as volunteering, donations, and publication to get the word out about them so that many others can be helped just like they helped me. I called about 20 places, including the United Way and the Union Rescue Mission. Loren Franck, the outreach's director, spent 15 minutes with me on the phone, then met me later that day to give me and my daughter, who's 7, a food card and a motel voucher. Best of all, his organization gave us hope. I can't thank him enough. West Side Homeless Outreach is the best!

Great Office Site For Licensing Enforcement Trainings…read more SITREP It isn't often that we have an opportunity to conduct training for Community Car Licensing (CCL) at the Culver City Regional Office (CCRO) just above LAX, but in this instance, the office complex proved worthy for the job. THE SETUP Located on Bristol Parkway, CCRO has large conference room that is more than sufficient for 20 trainers & trainees to set up shop and conduct a series of training weeks. * Ample Tables, Chairs & Hard-Wired Connectivity - a set-up including these elements was more than sufficient to conduct our training in this Conference Room. * Location - when it comes to breaks and lunch options, there is an old school food truck that comes regularly - like clock work - the building at 9:15am, and is there however long until the lines disappear. There is also the Culver City Mall just on the OTHER side of the building down the hill, making it easy to grab coffees at Peets, Starbucks, etc., or go to the foodcourt that includes quick lunch options like Sbarro, Panda Express, Chilpolte, a Sushi spot, a Vietnamese spot, a Mongolian Grill, etc. etc., and many many other options. UPGRADE REQUEST My main request of this building management staff would be to put WiFi in on this floor, or at least in this conference room. When we train, we utilize our wifi enabled HP Tablet -Laptops, and it would make the training site-metrics so much safer and less cluttered if we don't have to use hard-wired routers, Cat 6 cables, duct tape, etc. etc. THE LOWDOWN A very good facility to conduct our trainings.

A Great Training Site in Monterey Park…read more SITREP FREE PARKING! This is one of the few state offices within the framework of the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) that actually two major parking lots in back and off to the right available for workers to park in FOR FREE! I'm sorry, but THAT right there will garner a start at 5-STARS for any workplace since it pisses me off to have to work for an employer that does NOT watch out for their workers and makes them pay for parking. When training new staff that come from all 24 different regional offices spread throughout the State of California (Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Bruno, San Jose, San Francisco, Rohnert Park, Chico, Fresno, etc. etc.), it's nice that expenses can be kept down and our trainees don't have to worry about the hassle of downtown parking. SETUP Now, that is NOT to say that location is what totally drives a definition of the "quality" of a training-site, but it is just one thing that is representative of the pluses that exist in having our training site located outside of our HQ back in Sacramento. I'm happy to term this office-site as my favorite Southern Cal location and for all intents and purposes: our SoCal HQ. AMENITIES We actually have three (3) separate training room sites at this complex - the 2nd Floor conference room, the 3rd Floor Board room and the 5th Floor Board room. The 2nd Floor can take a max of up to 40 trainees which we had in our training last year here. The 3rd Floor Board Room is where we found ourselves these last two weeks and it's great too for 20 and under trainees. Fountain, restrooms, break room, smoking areas, etc., are all nearby when trainees engage in breaks or just leg-stretches to get the kinks out of their behinds. ISSUES There was an A/C clusterf*ck the first 3 days of the training and they had to bring in fan units to help cool off the room which was very much needed since L.A. was in triple digit heat during this time. I could easily throw this rating down to 4-stars because of this, but the maintenance detail was quick and responsive in trying to mitigate the heat excess. Throwing this at 4.5 Stars, it is just easier to round up to 5 for all the effort that was shown. THE LOWDOWN I give this training-room and office environment two thumbs up for providing a great learning environment for new field staff.
